So  how long does it take you to build your house/structure?

Well it depends how big the house is....a small house usually takes me a few minutes to build. But a giant building could take about more than 15 minutes (or a few "minecraft" days).

Well, since I love huge structures, it can take me days. And I mean real days, not Minecraft days. So yeah, if I wanna build big, it takes FOREVER.

supercool22 : I build LOADS of stuff..

And you know what, I name things with the word Bread in it...

So like Bread Prison, or the Bread Towers, etc.

My biggest house took about 4 and a half hours..

My smallest house took 5 - 10 minutes.

I spend a little under 30 minutes making a rudimentary house. I don't try to build one large structure in a sitting; it's too tiring.

Instead, my home-building is a gradual process that takes many months. I'll add a room once in a while and mostly focus on design versus size. Just as well, I don't lose a ton of work if the server closes within a few weeks and I don't get bored building.

Quite recently, I had many neat ideas for a house and spent over two hours building one on Tekkit. It's still not complete, but I plan to post it once I finish.

For me, it can take anywhere from 60-80 hours just to get the building set up. I DO NOT settle for small houses. My first house took up a total of 3600 Cobblestone blocks and took many, many hours to build. The house I am working on now is much bigger! Just the first floor is 3 times wider and 4 times longer than the first house and so far has 5 hallways and more than ten rooms. It took me more than 10 hours so far, and I am just half way done with this floor.

For me, it depends.  When I first start out, I will quickly build myself a crafting table and a door, then I will mine enough dirt to build a simple 3x3 hovel that I tend to huddle inside of during my first night.  (This little hovel usually only takes about five minutes to construct.)

The next day is usually spent scouting the local area to find a good place to build a home (The location I choose will determine what kind of home, it may be a home built into a cave, a home built into the side of a mountain, or any number of other kinds of home.  The types of structures I build are determined by the terrain and my mood at the time.)  and gathering a few more useful supplies.  If there is a good location for it, I will often start a garden with the seeds I have picked up so I can start making bread.  I tend to keep a fairly large garden, 20-40 spaces of wheat.)

Once my build location is scouted and I have a good amount of materials to get started with, I will begin excavating/laying the foundation, for my new home.  This home tends to include 4-5 rooms in total and can take anywhere from thirty minutes of play and three hours of play to construct depending on what all is involved (Usually involves a main room 6x6 (Which contains my crafting table, furnace, a single/double wide chest for crafting supplies, and anything else I want easy access to.) a bedroom 3x3 (Which tends to be a simple room with little more than a bed and a chest to hold the items I commonly use: A spare Sword, several extra pick axes, a couple of extra wood axes, extra armor, and a stack of two of bread.), a storage room 14x14 (The room will be filled with double wide chests that I sort by type.  I tend to keep almost everything I stumble across, but usually about half of those chests will be filled with building materials of one form or another), and the fourth room is typically a 2x3 closet at first, but later I use it as a starting point for mining as I dig down into the earth in search of raw materials and cave systems to explore.  The fifth room (When I add one) is a second bedroom for when I have someone playing the game with me so that they have their own safe place to start from.

At this point, the direction I go with things can vary drastically.

If I intend to play the game as an adventure (Slay the Ender Dragon, etc) I will usually add onto the existing home as I need more space (An extra room for my Nether Portal, an extra room for my Ender Portal, and a greenhouse at minimum.) And the end result is typically a modest home that involves another 4-6 hours to construct (Including the time I take to acquire the materials I need for additional rooms, portals, and anything else I need for the structure.)

Alternately, if I am playing for fun, I will sometimes build castles or other large structures (I posted pictures of some of my projects a while back that show the scope and scale of some of my projects.)  When I take on large projects, the time involved can vary widely.  I recently spent +150 hours building a sprawling castle in survival.  And a while back I spent +200 hours building a city in creative that I still need to go back and finish up.

Long story short, I build a tiny home in a few minutes early on.  From there, I move to a modest home that takes a few hours to build.  And if I'm feeling creative or want to build something specific, I can easily spend 50-100 hours constructing a castle or mansion.

As I have played the game, I find myself taking on more and more ambitious projects as time goes on.  My most recent project is in creative, its a scale replica of a Corellean Corvette from the Star Wars universe.  At present, I have about 6 hours into it, and I have roughly 1/4 of the hammerhead section built (Exterior only with the floors just starting to go in.  That part of the ship will be five stories high when complete, and I'm using the blueprints of the "FarStar" as a guide.)  A lot of that time was spent building and tearing down small parts of the structure as I tried to get things to "look" right.  I'm pretty happy with how things look at this point, I just need a good block of time to invest in it.

I usually like to build a small house about 21 by 21 initially. I do that so I only need one door per side that I want one for. Then I build up about 5 or 6 high and put in glass etc. It usually takes about half an hour unless I don't have sand. Then it can take quite a while gathering it up and cooking it. I only make main houses out of wood and its usually oak wood.

Later when I update the house it can take much longer. I love using redstone lamps and on my most recent house I have mine carts going around in a circle with detector rails lighting up lights occasionally. It seems to work pretty well, but took awhile to figure out.

From the day I started playing Mincraft, my buildings have been getting larger and larger, and the time needed to build them has also gotten larger and larger. Nowadays, I typically build huge mansions with dozens of rooms I'll likely never need or use. These mansions typically require 6-12 hours to fully complete.

It usually takes me a day or two to build my houses. In most cases, the house types are essentially the same, two to three floor, not including the roof which is often an observation deck with fenced off edges, an indoor fountain, and a nearby work/storage chest room. In addition, the general layouts are about the same, though I don't often put a fireplace in my houses.

Aside from that, it could take me a week to build anything impressive, two or three days if I have creative mode. Most of the week is spent gathering the materials though. :3
