I've been watching The Simpsons since around the time it first started. (Same with Family Guy but it hasn't been on nearly as long). I like The Simpsons much more because they always have great fresh ideas for episodes. Family Guy reuses jokes and content all the time and uses really annoying cut-away shots to fill the time slot. Yes, The Simpsons have had some bad episodes but in the years its been on the air but I personally think Family Guy has more bad episodes then The Simpsons.

The Simpsons, no competition. Family Guy has pretty bad and overused jokes, and i'm not saying The Simpsons is the most original show ever, but it's a lot more original than Family Guy. The jokes from Family Guy are pretty awful to begin with. Plus, The Simpsons can be quite serious about real stuff, while Family Guy really can't.
Now, the Simpsons has been going on for 25 years (A whole generation!) Yet it can still deliver original, funny stuff, while Family Guy who hasn't been going on nearly as long, it's newer episodes are pretty horrible compared to the first seasons (Which really aren't that good either)
Family Guy also uses toilet humor, violence and even crude words for trying to make it funny, while The Simpsons (I'm not saying it doesn't do this, just does it less and funnier) has good jokes.
In my opinion, The Simpsons will always be the superior show, at least over Family Guy (And The Cleveland Show and American Dad.)

Tl : Dr The Simpsons is a whole lot better than Family Guy, even if the newer seasons aren't great.

Don't get me wrong, I love the simpsons yet it just isn't there up with family guy.
Homer's stupidity is hilarious but it just doesn't meat Peter Griffin. I just love family guy, apart from the fact that brian has gone. Brian... We'll miss you!
