Why do people like Harry Potter so much? ( On my way home a few days ago the van in front of me had a bumper sticker that said "Harry for President" and I like had to try really hard to not rear end them in anger.

Bumping but don't care.

People like Harry Potter because it is a great story that for many people has spanned a good portion of their lives. There are people that started reading the books when they were in grade school and now that they are young adults the series is finally finished, they see it as a part of them. Some of the fandom is a bit crazy, but honestly I see the characters in Harry Potter as way better role models then the characters in, say, Twilight (s***ty book, s***ty movie, proof that anyone can get published).

I also think the Dursley thing in really interesting. You'd think they'd give up on it after awhile, but no, no they aren't smart enough to do that.

My favorite book is The Deathly Hallows and my favorite movie is The Goblet of Fire. Hopefully both Deathly Hallow parts will replace it because I'm anticipating it to be an excellent movie considering it's the series finale.

Tricky one. I will give my ratings.

Sorcerer's Stone: 3/10 (I'm not really a fan of the classic Harry Potter. Sorry.)
Chamber Of Secrets: 8/10 (Basilisk FTW.)
Prisoner Of Azkaban: 7/10 (Pretty good, but not the best.)
Goblet Of Fire: 10/10 (There's epic,there's action,there's drama,there's EVERYTHING! I loved it.)
Order Of The Phoenix: 9/10 (Lost a point for ****ing Bellatrix killing Sirius. D=<)
Half-Blood Prince: 8/10 (I loved the action, but Lavender always being all over Ron just made me sick. D:<)
Deathly Hallows: 10/10 (Never seen the book or movie, but I can tell its going to be pure epic win once I read/watch it. Why? Harry Potter Wiki.)

Honestly, I love the books, they are all wonderful. Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite with Deathly Hallows in second place. I, for the most part, hate the movies. The first two were okay, I understood why they cut what they did but they kept the stuff that was important to the story line. Starting with the third movie however, they began going off, cutting things out and not explaining things. In a lot of ways, it was banking on the entire audience having read the books.

I strongly dislike the location change of Hogwarts, it doesn't look right. The movie version of Goblet of Fire pissed me off royally because of all the changes they made and the MAJOR stuff they cut out. Order of the Phoenix was messed up as well, because of errors in movie for. However, the casting job of OotP was amazing and that made up for some of it. This last movie... I have never been so utterly disappointed in a movie in my entire life. They cut out 3/4 of the book, altered things, made s*** up, and then explained nothing!

"I'm the Half Blood Prince." *leave, no explaination*

WTF? Seriously, one or two lines would have explained it. That just isn't fair to those that haven't read the books.

They took HBP and tried to make the entire movie about teen angst and heartbreak. The whole thing with Ron and Lavender happened pretty much as in the book (but they never said who she was in the movie at all). The stuff with Hermione did not happen like that, Harry and Ginny were different too. Seriously, not cool.

And anyone else notice that the Christmas scene looked like it was filmed in late summer or mid-autumn? Remember how every other year there was snow? Where is the snow? And the house thing at the end of that? Yeah, that was not in ANY of the books, it didn't happen!

I hear they are splitting the seventh book into two movies. I'm glad, I think it needs it especially based on how badly they butchered book six. Should have done it for that book too.

Honestly though, the majority of the problem is that the producers are convinced that people won't sit through Harry Potter films if they are too long because a lot of them are kids and they get restless. I've asked many kids, they'd sit through a three to three and a half hour movie if they'd do it right. They sat through the Lord of the Rings films, they can sit through Harry Potter.

Sorry for the rant, I'm rather passionate about my Potter books being butchered.

wow... well said. i would have 'wanted' to say the same, but i wouldnt feel like typing all of that xD

lol, well put, Chron (and of course Elara). And for my favorite book, Deathly Hallows. But yeah, I watched OotP shortly after reading the book again and I was like "WTF, they left out too much!" I haven't read HBP, so I'm not sure what all was left out, but I knew that a good deal probably was. I'm hoping they get it right with the Deathly Hallows movies.

I really enjoy the books, but the movies were nowhere near as good. The first one was good, the second one was OK, the third and fourth ones sucked, I have yet to see the fifth one, but the sixth one was actually good. It was better as just a movie, however, than as a movie based on the book.

@Elara: I have to agree with you on the half blood prince part. Here are a few things I miss from the book.

1. Ginny kissing Harry in public. Im not complaining that they kissed in the ROR,but I wanted to see the look on Romilda's face once they kissed.
2. Maybe this will enlighten you.
Snape: Im the Half-Blood Prince.
Harry: ...Your lieing. Wheres the proof!?
Snape: LOL,like im going to tell you. Read the book.
3. In the Sectumsempra scene (Which is my favorite part,I hate Dorko to the max.),Dorko (AKA Draco Malfoy) TOTALLY does not attempt to defend himself with the Cruciatus Curse unlike the book. Instead,he just lets himself get chopped into bits by SECTUMSEMPRA!

But I liked the film of HBP,except those above parts and whenever I see Lavender with Ron. Heck, when Hermione said "Excuse me,I need to go vomit.",I said "Wait for me.". Yes,I am a RonxHermione fan. ._.

My favorite book/movie was Order of The Phoenix.. I almost had a heart attack when Sirius Black died. I was crying and didn't want to read that book again. I read it 3 times though. My auntie (Bellatrix) got some serious fighting in that movie.
