I think Joe Flacco is being terribly overrated. He did absolutely nothing forever, and just had a good post season.

With that said...

1. Aaron Rodgers - Can't really make an argument against the guy, he does it all, and is only held back from continued success by his own line, and his worsening wide receiver core.

2. Peyton Manning - Before last year, I wouldn't put him this high, but he proved he is a good QB, not just a guy who had help in Indy. With Denver, he took a team that barely made the playoffs with Tebow, and made it into a team I thought should have won the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, any team can have a bad game. And they did.

3. Drew Brees - One of the guys some people seem to forget... there's a reason he's so highly paid, and it's not just for winning a Super Bowl. The guy is a great team leader, and that has shown through amazingly during the whole Bounty Gate process. If only he had the receivers, the Saints would probably be good again.

4. Tony Romo - I know, this is going to piss off a lot of people... but no guy does more with less. His offensive line is completely incapable, which leads to him needing to get out of the pocket a certainty. On the run he makes pinpoint passes to his (admittedly good) receivers and tight ends. When the defense knows a pass is coming, it is really hard to beat them. Tony Romo was forced into throwing a lot, because the running game wasn't getting much of anything done. Get this man a top 10 RB, or a top 10 offensive line, and I think he will show off his top 5 skills.

5. Tom Brady - He's another severely overrated QB, like Flacco. However, unlike Flacco, he actually HAS skill. Not top 3 level, but skill. He has a ton of help around him at all times, being the Patriots, who have quickly become synonymous with the New York Yankees of MLB. They buy a lot of their talent away from other teams. The exception is when guys like Wes Welker (YES!) leave for other teams. If you need more proof of the fact they don't need Brady per se... look at the season where he was injured. Matt Cassell took over and led the team to a fantastic record. And Matt Cassell blows. So much that he's not even the starter in KANSAS CITY anymore.

For the record, and for fun, I'll also rate Flacco.

10. Joe Flacco - He's not the worst QB in the game, but you can't say his post season was entirely indicative of his level of play. People can get hot, and things will all happen as it should. He is good at exploiting bad defenses, but you know who else was, for Denver's run a year back? Tim Tebow. And you know what Tim Tebow is now? A backup on the Jets. Actually, a third stringer. I'm not saying Flacco is that (far from it) but you can't put it all on Flacco, it's not really entirely his success. Look at his regular season play. It was horrible. If he turns it around, I can see him cracking top 5... but for the time being, he's got to settle with #10.

legacyme3: Tony Romo??? Even if you put him with the best possible offence EVER he would still barely pull of a win!  ( Every Touchdown would be a running play)

Barathemos :

I'm dead serious.

And if you need any proof, actually WATCH a Cowboys game. As in, watch the game, and be quiet. Study the plays, and study the players. Tony Romo is one of the few reasons the Cowboys even have a chance at the playoffs. They are not a good team. Just a QB and 2 receivers and a tight end.

The defense is not as good as advertised, the offensive line is among the worst in the league, and the running game is pitiful.

I've had this argument numerous times. Tony Romo reminds me a lot of upper-echelon QB's who had to fight for every play. Nothing ever comes easy in the NFL these days, as the game has really evolved.

People may not like to hear it, but Romo is a top 5 QB, which is why he's getting paid like one now.

Barathemos :

You must not pay much attention then...

I'd say it's pretty clear he's a top 5 guy, for lack of other names.

There are 7 elite QBs in the NFL. The other two being Eli and Matt Ryan. You could really make an argument for those two being 5 over Brady, but unless you see Brady as a #7 QB, I don't see how you can push Romo out of the top 5.

7. Tony Romo
6. Peyton Manning
5. Matt Ryan
4. Drew Brees
3. Tom Brady
2. Joe Flacco
1. Aaron Rodgers

I watch all QBs in the NFL. Eli Manning would go in #8. I just don't think that Tony Romo has top 5 talent. I just don't think he can get out of tight situations like the 6 ahead of him.

legacyme3 : I agree that Flacco is overrated. He's nowhere near players like Payton Manning and Brady. But I've never seen Romo do much, but I haven't seen him all that much. I'd put him in the top 10, but not top 5.

5. I think Russel Wilson or Andrew Luck can take this spot. RGIII I think will do bad because of their coach letting him out to dry last year in the playoffs.

4. Drew Brees - Not much to say. Great QB.

3. Aaron Rodgers - My hate for the Packers aside, he's amazing.

2. Peyton Manning - You could see how amazing he is from the year he didn't play in Indy.

And number one, obviously, Tim Tebow!!!!

Ok, of course not.

1. Brady - I think he's the best. Always seem to do the job, besides in the Super Bowl now.

legacyme3: me and you have had this argument about Romo before... I don't see him as top 5 material. Not even top 10. Maybe back in the mid 20's. The guy can not win games, even when the team is built around him, and he chokes when he is actually doing something. Sorry, but I put him way back in the 20's, and his contract is BS, just like Flacco's.

Note: my list is based off of Wikipedia's current list of active NFL starting quarterbacks.

Number 5: Russel Wilson (yes. He proved himself to me to be top 5 material)
Number 4: Joe Flacco (yes... I am putting my teams quarterback better than my most 2nd hated team's quarter back... the Patriots)
Number 3: Tom Brady
Number 2: Peyton Manning
Number 1: Aaron Rogers

thing1 :

And as I recall, that argument ended with you realizing your stupidity, and trying to back out before I could hammer the point home.

Romo is a top 5 QB. The numbers don't show it, but I was asked who the top 5 QBs were. Not who had the best passer rating. (higher than Flacco's)

-----

Also, as an aside, is it really so hard to spell PEYTON Manning? Seems only mrfe and austipokedude can spell his name right.

thing1 : That post was spam to me. This thread is not for arguing, just putting a point.  Leggy, how does a debate make him stupid? Everyone has a choice to who they think is best and you can't take that away.
Now to get on topic.
patar4097 : I am so glad that Tim Tebow wasn't first I would put him in the number 11 hole, behind some of the better ones. Sanchez, is that how you spell it?, is not as good as Tebow, so if Tebow got more playing time than I think that he would have a chance to move up. Brady was good in the last few years, but he has aged and now doesn't show the athleticism that he did in his run early on in his career.
mrfe : So true.
( Like in your bracket!)  Who do you think will most likely loose. ( Like in your bracket!)
What is up with my summons?

Barathemos : Yeah, Tebow isn't number one. But he still has somewhere on a NFL roster. Somebody might want him for what people thought he would have been on the Jets. And I'll try to fix your summons.

Barathemos : What do you mean by "Most likely lose"? Like, who will do the worst? If so, then I'll go ahead and answer it. I think either the Miami Dolphins or the Jacksonville Jaguars will do the worst. Probably the Dolphins tho...

legacyme3 : Technically he didn't summon you, but he asked you a question...

Fail summons fixed.

My top 5 include:

1. Peyton Manning
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Drew Brees
4. Tom Brady (as much as I hate to say it)
5. Matt Ryan.

All of these guys have tremendous passing attacks and really know the game extremely well. All of them but Ryan have won a Super Bowl, too, and I think Ryan will get his soon enough if they keep stacking Atlanta like they're doing.

pray75: I really think that Peyton Manning is good, but he is not the same after the time that he had to miss. I don't really think that he will be as good. It is just downhill from here.

Barathemos : I would agree with you except for the fact that his performance last season was one of the best seasons of his career. Couple that with the fact that he's got a decent running game, an excellent receiving corps (Wes Welker's addition makes this offense very potent), and a pretty stout defense, and Peyton's just the guy you want to get the job done.
