I have slept with the T.V on for a number of years, but recently people have been telling me that I shouldn't. I have considered stopping, but it is how I go to sleep now.

Do you go to sleep with the T.V on? Answer in the comments.

Yes I do, I believe my parents do as well. It's kind of soothing for me.

I set the timer on my tv for fifteen minutes and turn the volume right down every night when I go to bed. I can't really sleep with a tv on, I just like the light when I'm going to sleep, but it would keep me up, that's why I use the timer.

I dislike having TV's on while I sleep. I find it distracting and it's not relaxing for me at all. When I was a kid, I had bad nightmares so I'd always have my TV on. But it sucked, because I was like, unable to not watch it. So I'd stay up watching TV in my room til like 4 in the morning before finally falling asleep and then have to get up a few hours later for school. It's was terrible. I've long since got over it because A) I'm not scared of everything anymore and B) I'm responsible enough to know when I'm tired that I should just go to sleep instead of dick around and watch Disney channel all night, but my advice to anyone is not to give anyone under 15ish a TV with cable on it in their room. Kids are just not responsible enough to handle it sometimes, haha. Obviously not all kids are as awful as I was, but I'm not even going to give my daughter the chance to pull something like that.

In any case, I sleep with the TV on in my bedroom on nights Lazlo is away, but just for the light. I get kind of anxious falling asleep by myself now that I'm used to not sleeping alone, so I like to be able to open my eyes and see the room if I hear something weird. I usually have the timer on for like an hour, because that's enough time to fall asleep.

If I wake up and the TV is on, I'm just instantly in a bad mood. Not so much if it's just the light (then I'm just confused as to why my room is flashing), but if I wake up and like I hear a TV in the same room as me or music, it's like, one of my biggest pet peeves ever. Hearing it in another room so it's soft and in the distance isn't so bad, it's actually kind of nice. But if someone wakes me up by turning on a TV, or there's one on when I wake naturally, it's just instant rage, hahah.

KG: I am the same way, but with music. I grew up with my brother constantly playing music I hate at all hours of the day and it constantly woke me up. In college, my roommate played music late at night and it woke me up, I was instantly in a rage and its that way now whenever someone plays music late at night or early in the morning.

KG:

Okay, i cant tell if it is summoning or not, so im just going to leave it as it is.

ender44 : Well it’s a bad habit that I pretty much inherited from my parents but yes I have slept with my television on pretty much since I was a kid. Lately I’ve been using a few channels on my roku streaming player to listening to radio stations as I’m trying to fall asleep. The only downside is I don’t have my roku hooked up to a surround system otherwise I would shut the TV off and just listen to whatever station I have on to go to sleep.

I hardly ever sleep good but it has very little to do with my leaving the television on. Dealing with things that are stressful and worrying on a regular basis is the big problem. I also like to listen to the piano that helps when you need a few hours of sleep.

I turn off my TV when I sleep, but I rarely sleep due to many agendas every day. Soccer, raising a kid, homework, social life, girlfriend, more work, and more work and lastly, food.

Anyway, TV I rarely watch and it pisses me off when I see it on automatically giving me a sendse that my kid was up watching the sponge or gravity falls.

bvd1022: yeah, the reason I sleep with the T.V on is that I'm a worrier. I like the T.V because it distracts me from thinking of all the stuff I have to do the next day, all the stuff I want to do the next day, and how I'm going to fit that into my schedule

I can't sleep with a TV on. I can't remember where I saw this, but the bluish light that you see from the TV actually keeps you awake longer, and I think it was because it tricks your body into thinking it's daytime. Don't quote me on that. I could be wrong. I'm not sure. Anyway, yeah. I can't sleep with the TV on.

I find it easier to sleep if there is noise in the background, I don't know why. So I usually just leave it on when I sleep.

I still sleep with the TV on if my Internet is not working. If my Internet is working, I usually put on a cartoon stream of Family Guy, American Dad, Simpsons, Futurama, Cleveland Show and South Park, OR put on a youtube play list and set it so it goes to next episode/show automatically.

I need to have something on for me to fall asleep, starting when we first got a television in our room. As a kid, it just kept me company, especially when my sister and I first got separate rooms. Sometimes it did cause me to stay awake too much, especially if a show I really liked came on or an episode of something I had not seen before was on, but I would not have gotten to sleep otherwise anyways...

My mind, both back then and now, just goes into these worries if there is not some form of distraction in the background. If my mind starts to worry, I can just listen in on the conversation going on in the show (that I most likely have seen). Used to be able to just listen to music and fall asleep, but music plays such a background role that it just lets me think about things more anyway and I cannot get to sleep.

What really sucked was last month, I went on a trip with friends to MAGfest, and we had to share a hotel room. Of course, they were the type that they could not sleep with the TV on, so I had to go without. Even if I tried just staying up playing games on my 3DS until I could bore myself to sleep did not work. I had to resort to counting sheep. I got somewhere up to the 1200s or 1600s... I was drifting in and out but usually I would hear someone snoring, tossing and turning, or just... breathing and it would distract me. Next time, I may try having my 3DS hooked up with Netflix, get some ear buds and fall asleep that way.

Ugh, I hate having the TV on when I'm sleeping at all. I hate any light, noise, or movement in my room. I'm an extremely light sleeper, and the slightest thing will wake me up. I don't even like having an alarm clock near my bed, because that little bit of light is enough to bother me. Even my phone has to be face down so I can't see the charging light. It's insane.

No, I find it really hard to sleep with noises that are legible.

I turn on a fan and leave it on so that air circulates and there's a sound to occupy my mind so I can sleep.

I've slept with the tv on since I was about 8 years old. My parents didn't agree with it at first, but they saw how my sister and I were getting lulled to sleep by it every night so they eventually allowed it as long as the tv's volume wasn't loud. Over the years it has gotten to the point where I can't sleep with the tv off. I've tried to put the sleep timer on so the tv shuts off a few hours after I go to sleep, but shortly after the tv goes off I wake up. It's like clock work. If I were to sleep in the living room and someone decides to turn off the tv then I wake up. Never fails.

Some people have wondered about how I cope with the brightness of the tv to which I reply "That's what the picture settings are for."

I have used a radio in the past to see if that changes anything and well... it doesn't work as well as the tv.

I do not. I actually can't sleep with a t.v. on. I keep looking at it all the time, instead of sleeping. I can however sleep with music playing. I used to do that all the time, until I ruint my c.d. player by leaving it on repeat all night.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
