So, the Senate is reviewing violent video games, and the NRA is blaming violent video games for the shootings in Connecticut.

Here's a news article about it, Senate review and NRA blaming games.

My view on their reasoning:

It's as if they can't really find a good reason for why he did it. Maybe he just felt like it. It's a horrible thing, but some people are just driven to things by themselves, they don't need to be influenced by violent media.

They're also trying to have assault rifles banned so that criminals can't get their hands on it. Well, that's not going to do much, I mean, criminals are called criminals because they break the rules, they're not going to halt in their desire to break the law kill people because they can't legally buy a gun. They're going to find other ways to do it.

Now, onto my view on the revision and blame on violent video games:

The USA has had around 10000 gun related incidents and Japan has only had 11 in that same time frame. Their society is completely rooted into video games, violent and not items in media, which are considered violent. Have you ever watched a Japanese movie? Rape, murder, suicide, etc. is all prevalent. Sure guns may be illegal there, but people are called criminals for a reason, they break the laws.

It has NOTHING to do with the media. I think it has to do with our lack of understanding on how to deal with people, mental disorders, and not teaching our children the value of life properly. The only problem Mortal Kombat has really caused: thousands of kids who don't know how to spell 'combat.'

What do you think about this whole situation?

austipokedude : They found a copy of Black Ops II in his house. Therefore he's automatically addicted, and the game was a factor in the shootings. /sarcasm /stupidity

This is ridiculous, the only reason this is happening is because we really hate being in the situation where we have no idea what the heck is going on. We don't know why he did it, so everyone is talking about the fact that he was a weird kid and non-social. Come on! There are tons of weird kids! I was a weird kid! I was non-social! Everyone says he played violent video games and that's why. Tons of people play violent video games, I play violent video games! I wish we wouldn't waste our time on things like this, if it keeps up, we are going to have crazed people doing violent game burnings and people breaking into stores to make sure these games don't get released.

I think they are trying to say that that game made him feel familiar with killing, guns and death which made his homicidal tendencies higher than what they would have been if he never played the game. I know it won't have this affect on most people but I think tey are saying he was very impressionable and which made him think the things in the game are every day and real, and that people who are good at the game are at the top of a leader board which he sees as a prize which would be positive reenforcement for the gaming so to experience this he murdered people. I think this is what they were thinking but I DO NOT believe it to be the case and as we know people well say anything to exploit tragedies for their own gain through the media.

alexanyways : I think it is nothing more than political damage control that the government is looking into violent video games in the wake of what happened. It is nothing more than a cop out to avoid what really happened. By blaming an entity like video games is merely avoiding the issue. If the government really cared about the supposed effects of video games there would be no wars (Which would be a good thing.) The most gun related violence takes place under the guides of wars. Wars which are caused by nothing more and nothing less than failed politics and maybe even money.

What happened before Christmas in Connecticut is very tragic but to say video games is the cause of the events that took place is nothing more than passing the buck. I won’t sit here and attempt to make statements in regard to the man who was responsible for what happened because the fact is I don’t know the person and don’t know what his background was but I have heard that there could have been things going on medically which could have played a role.

Either way what happened should have never happened and what needs to happen now is to guarantee that children are safe when they go to school, that is where the focus should be not on video games which are meant for entertainment purposes. Just one man’s opinion.
