ultimatelifeform213 : Haha. Referring back to your original post before you got so many questions, I think you misread my thread post. When you asked what degree I think I'll get, I think you thought this was high school graduation. I just finished my last day of college, so I have completed my degree. It is in secondary education in speech/theater and biology.

Singelli : I don't know if I mentioned it to you before or not. So no worries. She is actually on her second year teaching. Her first year, she taught 1st grade. This, year, they switched her to kindergarten (the kindergarten PLC at that school is full of drama so they put her there to hopefully break up that drama).

haitamchouiekh : 6 and a half years. It took a while since I added Biology onto my teaching field.

ender44 : refer to my reply to ultimatelifeform.

skipercapt: I didn't have a particular favorite thing. The classes, for the most part, were great. But my fondest memories was when my friend and I would prank the hell out of people in the theater department (I was in that department too, so it was all good fun).

thing1 : Secondary education is a license to teach 7th-12th grade. My fields are speech/theater and biology. So I could do public speaking classes, coach a debate team, coach a forensics team, be the director of a theater department if they need one, or teach biology courses or anatomy.

Oldschool41 : You just have to have a subbing license in the state and you can sub at any school. My teaching license will work as a subbing license, so I don't have to get a separate one. Nowadays (at least in Kansas), getting substitute jobs is done online. You make an account this site that shows you every subbing job that opens up in any school within a commutable distance from you. Then it is just a first come first serve kind of deal. But the subs here have no problem filling their week with work, and the schools here and in the surrounding districts are still struggling to fill all the needed sub spots that pop up.

Yep, we use sub-finder (an online program) also.  I have no idea how it works though, because every time I go to find a sub, it asks me to log in using a pin number, and I was never given one. Therefore, I usually call subs' house numbers or cell numbers.  We have a few that are at the school nearly every day and prefer to work there, so they've left their numbers.

Subbing jobs are indeed pretty easy to find on a daily basis (At least in our system), so I'm glad you have that.

And it must be nice for your wife to know she was put there to help dampen the drama.  I think?  LOL

I always wanted to teach primary grades when I was younger.  It was only as I grew up that I changed my mind.  I still love younger kids and would love to work with them though, if I had the chance.

Well, the next step in your life is about to happen. I can't imagine the feeling of relief. The weight has been lifted, I bet. 6 and 1/2 years is a long time. Well, I wish you good luck at the graduation ceremony and your future endeavors.

Singelli : Technically, it is a good thing. But the other kindergarten teachers are horrible. They are mean, passive aggressive, rude, and stubborn. She used to be against moving if we could help it. But now she has no issue with moving if I found a job next school year. I feel bad for her. She likes the kids and the class, but the coworkers in that PLC is bad enough to make her not care about staying there.

Congratulations on completing college! It's must had been very tough for you!

Well, all I can do is wish you luck on the decisions you take on the future and wish you heal from that sickness.

Best wishes!

ultimatelifeform213 : I'm confused. If you knew I was talking about being finished with college, why ask what degree I think I am going to get?

ultimatelifeform213 : I see. I can give you a rundown of how it works. You decide what you want to do for a career. You find out what degree you would need to get that job, which determines your major. You then simply take all the required classes for that degree. So for me, I took classes required for a degree in secondary education in speech/theater and biology. Once you complete all of those required courses, you get your degree.

rcarter2 : So in other words, in a simpler rundown, you just pick your classes that you feel you specialize in, and you gotta pass them to get your degree?

ultimatelifeform213 : For the most part, but each degree has a list of required classes that you must take. So you are kind of picking your own, but you are following a specific path. You get an adviser when you start, and they pretty much map out what classes you need to take each semester to try to finish college in the fastest time possible. As you get farther into it, you get less and less choice of what to take because you pretty much fill up your schedule completely with the courses required for your major. So it really isn't as simple as you pick classes you feel you specialize in. If you don't take all the courses required in the degree you are pursuing, you don't get that degree.

ultimatelifeform213 : Not sure. My high school didn't have case managers. If they are people who make sure you are taking all the required classes that you need,  then yes, they are like that.
