I am mad that most of the games of today are mostly one-player. Where is the co-op!? My cousin and I play two player games all the time. Also they care about the graphics more, the makers of the game. Like DBZ Ultimate Tenkaichi Kinect... enough said there. LOZ MM and OoT has more depth than some of the games of today shesh! But I don't think anyone is going to change how the games are made now a days anytime soon. But don't get me wrong either, there are good games out there and in the last month I found some good ones!

I enjoy a lot of them, but I do feel that in a lot of cases, it's become more of a competition of graphics rather than story, or fun factor. It seems that so many are simply geared to show off their capabilities. They want to be as brutal or blood filled as possible, as pretty as possible, etc. All eye candy of sorts, as opposed to being the most fun game on the market. Also there seems to be less originality than before, but that started happening from the beginning. The snes wasn't as daring with trying new things as the Nes was, and the N64 wasn't as daring as the Snes, etc. All in all though, I still enjoy the games I feel comfortable playing.

Honestly, I feel Video Games now a days are...well it's odd.
You see Gamers have been divided to so many sub-sections and niches and Indie or not to indie.
Mainstream titles are being pushed through to meet dates, Indie games that have great potential are not getting the attention they deserve.
What's funny is that Gamers don't know what they want from newcomers or the people they knew. One man says they want an art game, the other wants to have more fun, one wants to be engaged in a epic story. Yet I have not seen many mainstream games that seem even worthy of buying on the first day.
What's really hilarious, is that people think I'm talking about the shooters, the Halo of Battlefield, if you will. Except that all these popular games are slightly unbecoming for me. Young as I am (I was born when the PS1 came out) I feel games today are missing something that older games had. Take Nintendo for example, their new shtick is their known "innovation" with their newer consoles. To be honest, the Wii was a disaster, not as a selling point, but as an influence. Since the Wii is basically the video game toy of the decade, it sold well. Competition sees the cash, goes for it as well. The word casual starts being thrown about and now we're here. We still have "this is better than that" conversations, graphics are still important. So this difference now is communication. The internet planted the seed for indie, and we've seen that it's growing. Money wants to be made more than ever before, and we have a say in the development.
To be honest, it's not doomsday for video games though. The NES, SNES, Game Boy, PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, all the sega consoles had  games to shovel through. And you old timers had to find your way through it. If newcomers find their place at the start of the maze, let them be. If you guys that want something more, you'll find it. Er...eventually.

I'm on the verge of giving up and selling PS3 because of multiple reasons.. Worst of all is having to buy a game and then buy an online pass to play your friends. Also story lines are not given very much thought. Instead of playing games because I'm excited to see the story, I just play to gain my trophies now and improve gamer level, which is not very fun. When you see commercials for a game the story might look good but a lot of the time they show the best parts of the story in the commercial so what's the point?!  I miss beating a game for enjoyment I have recently pulled my PS2 out of retirement so I can go back and have fun again.

Matias72 : I agree with this there is the rare game i want to play and beat for the story but most of the time I just want to get the trophies/achievements the only game and it is just really sucks because have the time the trophies/achievements are really tedious and annoying to get , were the rare game that I actually like and have fun getting the trophies/achievements.

I like playing modern games. I also really enjoy playing retro games that I have played for 20+ years. A testament to how great those games really were that you could still play them so many years later. How many games released for the current generation would you say that about?

Honestly I have to agree a little on the original point. So much time is put into the cut scenes and some of the music that the ACTUAL GAMEPLAY or length of the game suffers. I mean look at the COD games now, they often feature campaigns that last only 5-6 hours total and the rest of the replay value revolves around other players.

Or look at modern Final Fantasy games. Great graphics sound, and story but the actual game feels like you are watching a movie with some monster battles mixed in.

Game this days suck now, because they focused on the online and graphics. They should at least focused more on the gameplay, because I think that the gameplay shape out how the game work. Also they should at least try to make a good story, because I am always into the story first than I move onto multiplayer. Even some of my favorite game series got ruin, because of this gerneration of games.

I don't think there's a lot of difference; sure, the graphics are better and the stuff you can do with a system is much more enhanced. But in reality, when it comes to storyline and depth, there's always been amazing games that stood apart from the rest and mediocre games that were ground out for quick cash without much thought being put into them.

I think part of the problem is that our perception of games has gotten so greedy. We're not blown away by a new little graphic enhancement; we're so jaded and over-hyped that we expect every new innovation to be the most amazing thing ever! I remember how very cool we thought the Game Boy Color was-oh, gosh, colored games right here in our hand! And those graphics sucked, but we didn't care.

It's not just the graphics that are getting more and more impressive. Remember the Nintendo controllers? Two buttons, start, select and a D-pad. And that was all you needed. I remember looking at the Nintendo 64 controller with quite a bit of trepidation. What the heck would you use all those buttons for, anyway? And honestly, a lot of the early games didn't actually use all those buttons. But as the games become more complicated and 'realistic', the more control you need over the game itself...I don't think we're far away from full immersion suits and holo suites.

Like I said, I think that the games are about the same as they've always been. It's just us-our society and our expectations-that have changed.
