Strange, because I edited your post above before I replied.

Your signature had div, not /div.

legacyme3 : I don't know how the layout went through the first time (but I was aware of that /div mistake). But when I go to make a new layout I already have 4 errors without writing anything.

I just checked the layout myself as well as my own.

Davideo7 :
JigSaw :

Text isn't appearing in some cases on the layout editor.

I only checked my layout and bombchu links.

In my case, the only visible text was the blue text in my signature. In other cases, white text was not visible, even if you roll over. Is the sample text missing?

Sample text no longer shows. This will not be fixed. If you're having divider errors, I feel bad for you son, but I've got 99 problems and bad code ain't one.

(That is, fix your code)

If your code is good, take a screenshot of it and show us. One more thing: This should be in the Help forum.

Crazy Li :

Leggy and I tried to figure this one out for a few hours and to no avail:

Alright.  See the layout in this post?  I created it around midnight or so, noticed a few errors, and went back to edit the code.  However, the changes I was making wouldn't submit, causing me some frustration.  Therefore, I deleted the layout and re-wrote the code to change the layout more to my liking.  (Since the preview isn't perfect, I didn't realize the image was too big or whatnot.)  I did this twice, before getting annoyed at the deleted layouts in my inventory, and I decided to keep this one as is.

I went to create another one.    When I went to submit it however, I noticed that I could not because the editor told me I had a url error.  I was fairly certain I had done everything correctly, but I played around with the code just in case.  I tried inputting the code a few different ways, I tried uploading the image to vizzed and using that as my linked image, and I even tried a completely fresh and totally random image off the web to see if maybe there was just something glitchy with the urls I was using.

I then tried inputting each piece separately to try and discover -where- the error might be.  I put the main body code in.... and the editor told me there was one url error.  I took it out and put the signature code into the editor.  Still: one url error.  Yet oddly enough, inputting BOTH pieces of code only yields in ONE error as opposed to two.

Alas, nothing I tried worked!  Well, I decided since -this- layout at least let me submit it (even if I couldn't edit it), I'd compare the codes and see where I went wrong.  Well, as soon as I opened this layout to edit, it too said that there was a url error.  However, there was none when I submitted the layout.  And strangely, as you see, this layout works perfectly fine.

Confused, confounded, and a little discombobulated, I sought outside opinions.  Nobody could find anything wrong with my code.  Leggy got the code to submit with no errors in his account, but when he went back to edit, his advanced layout also told him that there was a url error.

I went back to the editor, curious about something, and I inspected the errors before putting a single letter into the editor.  Even completely blank, the editor tells me there is a url error.  Thus, I think I can deduce something is wrong with the advanced editor itself.

Want to add anything legacy3me : ?

Oh you, silly casuals.

In my honest opinion, if you guys have major trouble with making a layout, you should probably stick to just buying ones that others make instead, whether they be ones on sale already or requested ones. Don't like it? Learn to fix the problems then. The layout I have now took hours to make because of multiple errors revolving around the text box and the extra tab coverup, but I made it with little to no help, and definitely didn't come here asking for any (If I recall correctly. Don't hold me accountable for that quote).

This is coming from one who read every post here except Singelli's though, Nya~.

(PS - I'll even make a new layout now too if it helps prove anything)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help.  That's what the help forums are for, and its a quick way to learn things.  My error has nothing to do with the OP, but I didn't want to create a whole new thread for layout errors.

That being said, I worked with mine for at least four hours, half by myself and half in conjunction with others, before we concluded something was wrong with my editor.

But I stand on the fact that there's nothing wrong with asking for help.  So what if the guy wanted to know what he had done wrong?  There's no harm in it and it's rather inconsiderate to tell him that he shouldn't bother making one he likes just because he wasn't sure what he had done wrong.  It's inconsiderate to tell anyone that, actually.  It's like telling a child they shouldn't ride a bike without training wheels because they fall a few times and ask someone to help them get a running start.

MegaRevolution1:  My original point still stands.

If you refuse to ask for help, good on you.  That's your choice.
But his asking for help was hurting you in no way.  If you didn't like it, you didn't have to answer it, or even finish reading it.

Besides that, you said you aren't even certain if you asked for help or not.... kind of making your own point moot if your recollection
is inaccurate.

Just saying.
But there's really no point in continuing this current conversation, as this is majorly side-tracking from the main point.  The main point was in asking for help on a layout and making sure there was no error.

My point:  You shouldn't be telling people not to seek help just because you didn't (to your recollection, which you admitted might not be correct). Your post was totally not conducive to this thread, nor did it help solve anything.  I'm not going to post here again unless it's on topic, discussing mine or bombchu's questions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so...let's get this straight.  You received no help at all from anyone and therefore are refusing to provide help to anyone?  I'm glad not everyone has that mentality or charities would find it a lot harder to help those in need.

First off, let's be honest here.  You did get help while "learning to ride" this "bike".  In order to have gotten where you are with layouts without any help whatsoever you would have had to write your own layout from scratch on your own without viewing/using already created layouts or asking for any help whatsoever or performing any research at all.  You, however, used a layout that someone else wrote.  In essence, that was a huge boost on your "bike".  It's like wanting to build your own custom bike but you decide to buy one at the store and then paint it.  You didn't build your own custom bike...you painted someone else's bike.  Someone else built your bike.

In essence, this is the same.  I know because it's how I learned to code the php games I own online.  I bought a script and taught myself to code through use of various edits.  I, however, would not dream of insulting the original coders by claiming that I learned to code without any help whatsoever.

This guy is putting a lot of effort toward learning and as someone who is self taught with the help from code supplied by an original coder (just as you were) I respect his efforts.  It also takes a wise individual to seek the advice and help of those who are more experienced then themselves.  I respect him for that as well.  Unfortunately, css is not my strong point.  While I might have been able to provide some pointers if it were html/php (depending on the php version) I am still too new to css to do much in that department and to be honest haven't looked into learning it.

Bombchu link, I hope someone who is experienced and knowledgeable will be able to and kind enough to be willing to help you.

(just as a side note...if you don't intend to help others because you feel superior in your own "self taught state" why would you bother visiting a section of the forum dedicated to allowing members to help each other out...that seems a bit counter-productive unless your intention is simply to remind others of how highly you think of yourself every opportunity you get...).

I have the bug as well; I'm not able to edit my current layout. Clicking submit will only reload the page with whatever changes I make to my code not submitted.

It also says I have a closed div error, which I can't remove the tag...

tRIUNE :  It's good to know I'm not the only one who can't seem to make edits.  I find it strange that my first custom layout submitted with no error, but now reads as having an error.

Singelli : If you have a URL error, it is because you have something linking off-site in your profile. Be it a link, an image, or otherwise. If you have any string of text in your layout that starts with http:// and anything other than www.vizzed.com, it will fail every time. Going to a different site won't help it, because the problem is that you are not allowed to link off-site. Read the rules, this is clearly outlined.

Like I said before, if you post a screenshot, maybe I can help you, but if not, all I can do is tell you that your code is probably wrong.

tRIUNE : (And everyone else) Sorry, I can't reproduce the error. Look more closely, I am sure there is something wrong with your code.

Lazlo Falconi :  Thank you SO much for your feedback.  I now understand what happened and have fixed it.

tRIUNE :

Okay, so as I'm previewing the layout I'm making, I use off site links, to make sure I can create a layout I am satisfied with before I upload the picture to vizzed.  (This way, if I can't get the image to do what I want it to do, I'm not uploading photos uselessly.)  I DID know about the rule that states you can only use images uploaded to vizzed, as evidenced in the layouts I made with the simple editor.

So here's what happened: in my dinosaur eye layout, I forgot to upload the photo to vizzed before submitting the layout.  Now, as far as I'm aware, the layout editor shouldn't have allowed me to submit it, but for some reason it allowed me.

In any case, this locked the custom editor with the url error.  Even if you try a brand spanking new layout, the editor will be locked out from the bad url in a completely different layout

In other words, leggy, tRIUNE, you need to find the layout with the bad url and delete it in order to edit any old layouts or create any new ones.  Leggy, for you, it'd be that one you uploaded for me.

Thanks again, Lazlo!

EDIT:  Alright, so I found out why the layout let me submit it even with the bad link.  For some reason, the editor isn't reading the url error the first time you submit.  I just experimented, and I put in a bad link on purpose.  It read no error, and I was able to submit.  It isn't until AFTER it's submitted, that the error is read.

Outside links are slipping through the layout editor. See the post above this one.

Lazlo Falconi : There's nothing wrong with my layout code, there was a div tag in the signature that the editor wouldn't allow me to remove, so I created a new layout (this one) with the same code but without that div tag and now the layout center shows no errors.

The bug for me is that I'm not able to edit layouts, I can just make a new one though it looks like.
