Now a days there is a camera on every street light. Do you feel you being watched or is it just for security, speeding tickets, ect?

I don't think there are too many cameras. When a crime is committed (not traffic violations), one thing they do is check any camera that might have caught something. That has often led to getting license plate numbers, better face shot, etc of the person they are looking for, so I am all for having cameras on areas like street lights. As long as they don't start putting them in places like public restrooms, then put up however many cameras they want.

I think that the cameras are actually pretty good. Even though they can be used for evil, I doubt that people would ever have the time to watch a lot of them... they are usually just recorded, saved, and automatically giving tickets for speeding etc.

Just as rcarter2 said, they can be used to capture crime scenes.

It really depends on what the situation is. If its a popular street corner that a lot of crime happens with a lot of crappy speeding angles happen, then I don't blame them. If not, then that's a bit excessive. Maybe too excessive.

As long as they stay out of bathrooms and hotel rooms I'm fine with them. I would never liked to be watched when going in the bathroom or having a private moment in a hotel room. Cameras in the streets and stores are a good thing though. It keeps us safe. It also helps track down those who do wrong.

Not necessarily. The way I see it, you only have to worry if you did something wrong Overall, I disagree because this will hopefully reduce some of the risks of crime that occurs. Not only that, but there's a higher possibility that they will be caught and dealt with.

rcarter2 :
i agree 100%
the uk has the most cameras in europe, possibly in the world, giving rise to terms like the camera state and big brother is watching.
if you watch v for vendeta theres the potential abuses but i cant count all the times on tv they report crimes and its caught on camera, over 90% of the time.
if there had been a camera when zimerman shot that teen it'd be a pretty open and shut case.
cameras can benefit in so many ways, im glad the uk has so many, i want more.

thenumberone : That is a terrific example. Just think if there were cameras on the street where Zimmerman "Stood His Ground". Then we might actually get some freaking justice for that *naughty word*'s actions.

I don't think there are too many CAMERAS, but I think there is too much being done with those cameras that shouldn't be.  We are well aware of the fact that cameras have caught many acts we otherwise would not have, and they help us battle crime.  However, who has access to that footage and what it is used for...   Yes, it's too much.

For example, I don't like the idea that someone could be watching me through my laptop webcam without my knowledge.

I would prefer my tax money go to something better, like actual law enforcement officers, than cameras all over the place.  But they serve a purpose.  If dangerous people can be taken off the streets and prosecuted and there's evidence that people were guilty, the world, if done correctly, could be a safer place.

But cameras used with the intent to find people doing victimless crimes (speeding, anyone?) are a waste of time and effort.  It's the war against violence, drugs, and larceny I'm worried about.  I don't care if someone blasts through a yellow light at a traffic stop unless they were doing it when it is dangerous or near schools.

I guess cameras are okay sometimes.  There you go.

I agree with warmaker; I want my tax dollars going to actually law enforcement officers to stop crime rather then just use a camera. Cameras don't stop people from speeding on the highway, only police cars will. Some cameras are okay in situations like bank roberies since there is a risk of hostages getting injured or killed if the police try to raid the place.

Honestly i do not htink there are too many but, as i have heard, that chance of the robber or person who is the criminal finds the camras and takes them, there would be no feed or tapeage of the criminal so they do not get caught. And of where it would be better if there were more police on the streets instead of more camras.

But then again some camras are more hidden than others. And the fact sometimes Technology is better than acctual people but sometimes it is the opposite way around. Everything that was ever pinned up against anything had it's flaws and it's strong points. And also with the fact there are not as many jobs as there were before is also another reason more officers should be put out on duty to get them work and to help their families or just to be able to support themselves, but sadly that makes and impact on how much money one company (or goverment in this case) can spend

Bringing to the reason why there are camras is because it is least costly
But i can sometimes believe that one person can always out run any technology of somekind

I honestly think having so many cameras can actually be helpful in certain circumstances. For instance, people that are missing can be found alive on security camera video footage. Or they can retrace someone's steps or maybe see someone who was suspicious in whatever kind of illegal activity. It can be a helpful resource, in fact, in some area's, I believe there may not be enough security.
