This does not surprise me. Since it seems like the majority of people responding to that were Christians, I am curious to know what percentage "Pagan" would have been at if it were a choice on the list.

thenumberone: personally i have never been attacked or insulted by a member of a different religious group, nor have i attacked a person of different faith. i have however been "attacked" and scoffed at by many athiests a few of which have posted in this thread

from what ive seen the whole thing is basically a christian vs. athiest thing. i think part of the problem is when a christian says you are going to hell its not a threat. its a fact according to our beliefs. its just like if you told me i was going to die, it wouldnt be a threat itd be a statement of fact. i realize there are people out there that do mean it as a threat but those are the extremists every group has them including athiests. people tend to base thier oppinions on groups off the extremists.

drag00n365 : if i told you christianity was a con because what i believe rules out the possibility of it being real, and i hence said jesus was a deceitfull *censored* that would still be offensive, even if thats insinuated by what i believe, equaly with christianity, saying things like you'll burn in hell, its offensive.
Believing something as a fact dosent give the right to treat people differently because of it

thenumberone : i wouldnt take you calling it a con as offensive. the difference betwenn your example and mine is you insulted the person that we believe is God, my example didnt insult athiests or anybody else it was just a statement of fact according to my beliefs. now if i called you names or cursed at you or something then it would be insulting.

and would you mind explaining to me why athiests and others take people telling them they are going to hell as offensive when they dont believe in hell anyway? like if somebody told you you were going to be reincarnated as a worm would you take it as offensive?

drag00n365 : i never insulted him, it was an example, the example is no worse than christians talking down to atheists though, its the only logical outlook when youre atheist hence atheists would believe (if he existed) that he was a liar.
as you stated, christians blatantly saying that atheists will essentialy be endlessly tortured, in contrast to, i think youre religion lies, has 1 which is more offensive, though both still are. what makes it offensive is the intent, deliberately attacking someone based on beliefs.
If i called a gay person a fag theyd take offence, yes theyre gay but in calling them that its obviously meant in a spitefull way.
Essentialy my point is keep what you believe to yourself unless people are interested, dont force things on them.

Um, when you say 'religious people' you are talking about radical Christians,  right? I'm christian and I don't attack people or other beliefs. Islams aren't so atrocious in America, but in the Middle East, they discriminate against Christians just as much as radical Christians discriminate against others. I know from family experiences

Annette : I think that if paganism had been a possible answer in the American study, it would have been misinterpreted as SATANISM (So it would have won the hate contest). There are so much misconceptions about paganism... Since it's an Umbrella term that encompasses everything that is pre-christian, maybe with the exception of voodooism, that has evolved from strong Christian influences, making it quite the most recent pagan mythology there is. Also, many times we forget that shamanism is totally different from regular pagan cults, and has roots WAAAAAYYYYYY before in history, being the oldest form of spirituality.

Now atheism... I only have to say that atheists are underrated. In the mouth of some people, they make them sound like they have no soul at all... :-S But nobody is totally faithless! Every human being believe in the invisible, love, for example. In fact, the ardor with which some atheist defend their opinion is a proof of total devotion to an ideal. Which is faith changing clothes, isn't it?

broadcastlove : Yes, I know. Perhaps I should have specified Neopaganism or Wicca. Either way it would have been amusing to see the (albeit uninformed) results.

Annette :   I think the case of Wicca would've not been ostracized. I feel like there is a clearly inoffensive feeling attached to it in the imaginary collective. Like wild white mages. About the rituality, I find Wicca hardly comparable to any religion since there are no rules. When I think that you can be BANNED from most religions... I find this kinda' creepy... There a no such wiccan behavior. But when I think of it, many pagan cults does include some sort of excomunnion. Wicca, of all pagan cults, has ethical advantages I never realized before. Are you a pagan yourself dear Annette?

broadcastlove : Perhaps. A lot of people see a Pentacle and automatically think of Satanism, like you said... or they hear "Pagan religion" and think it's the 'opposite' of Christianity (when really the two are very closely linked).

There is one rule, but it is simply the "Golden Rule" that most people have, and it is basically "Do whatever pleases you as long as you are not harming anyone".

A lot of Wiccans are simply solitary, where the Witch has a private ritual personally adapted specifically to their path (instead of following a group's structure) - This is what I prefer to do.

If you are banned from a church or sect, then there has to be some sort of structured group in place. Groups of Witches are called covens, and I don't doubt that they wouldn't hesitate to excommunicate someone from a coven if their behavior was harmful, manipulative, or otherwise toxic to others. However they would not be excommunicated for 'disobeying' or questioning, in the creepy type of way you were talking about.

I do identify as a Pagan, although my spiritual interests are quite varied and complicated. Wicca, Neopaganism, Traditional European Witchcraft (including Celtic, Germanic and Welsh traditions), Yogic religions (mainly Hinduism but also Buddhism), Pantheism, Secular Humanism, and Catholicism are some of the belief systems that I borrow my philosophy and practices from.

Annette : i am pretty certain that pagan would be imediately behind atheism, just because people know nothing about it and make negative assumptions.
that being said all i know about pagans is they tend to follow nature and observe the seasons, beyond that im clueless, thats no cause to shun people

Annette :   Thanks for sharing specifications about the golden rule and coven thing. I am not a wiccan practionner myself, so it's fun to hear from an insider (I never got past the thirteen phase were you light incense and candles for your secret admirer... ^.^).

Also the haters that hate would've LOVE to see an ALIEN CULT category . Those are almost exclusively made of sects, and they get all the ranking in the group suicide high score billboard. ''Fun'' fact: It has been highly maintained that the Jonestown event (largest mass suicide ever, over 900) leader Jim Jones was in fact a highly regarded operative for the CIA. This was pretty obvious. He was supporting actively the republican campaign, took private plane with the vice president many times, all this on broadcast tv. Like if the simple story wasn't crazy enough! This makes you wonder about the origins of any remaining alien cult, since this story goes back to the mid 70's...

I think that the reason other minorities are being more accepted is because its something they cant  control like the color of your skin or sexual preference. The general thought is that you can choose to be an atheist. But I'm an atheist and I didn't choose to be,I just don't believe in god. I gave church a try and I just couldn't buy the whole all loving god thing.
If any thing feel bad for atheist. I want eternal happiness in heaven too but I just don't believe that heaven exist. No amount of time spent in a church is going to save my soul if I don't actually believe in god. (assuming god is real)

It's kind of depressing to read the figures, but I appreciate you bringing them to light. These are just another reason why I keep my lack of beliefs to myself unless I trust someone and they want my honest opinion. I'm also glad I live up north (ish) where my car doesn't get vandalized for having a simple Darwinism fish sticker on the bumper.

Yeah, it's stupid, I even heard some people (mostly those tea party people) that Atheists are worse than Muslims and if someone runs for president, they rather have a Muslim president that an Atheist president, and I don't know why that is.
(no offence because I do respect all people around the world no matter the race or religion)

But seriously, they need to calm down about it, Atheists are people to, even they don't believe in God or Satan, that doesn't mean you shouldn't hate on them.
Do you have to be a Christian to be respected, it's anyone else's decision on what religion they want to be, some countries have some kind of "Freedom of Religion" and it's there choice if they want to be an Atheist or not.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
