It's the 1990 Hong Kong movie "Stage Door Johnny". Which is a martial arts drama film set in 1920's Shanghai. The story focuses on an all-female Chinese opera troupe which eventually get caught between two rivaling group of gangsters.

What I really liked about this movie:
  • The action sequences are really well done. Well the movie was produced by Jackie Chan. And his stunt team was also involved in the making so it's no surprise that the fight scenes, while far from the best I've seen, are ended up pretty solid overall. With quite creative coreography here and there.
  • The set, costumes and makeup departments all deserve a shout-out. I was especially impressed by the colorful costume designs the troupe's performers were using during their stage shows.
  • Kara Hui is lovely as always. Well at least in my opinion but I am admittedly biased here (whenever I see that woman on-screen my heart melts). Her portrayal of the troupe's freshly signed star from Peking with a stuck-up prima donna-like personality was pretty amusing to watch for me. And as far as the action scenes go, I wouldn't say she steals the show in them, but she definitely shines the most.
Things I disliked in this movie:
  • The cinematography and the editing during fight scenes. As I said earlier, the fight scenes are initially pretty good. But they could be even better with proper camerawork and editing. Surely it's a matter of personal preference, but I feel that the action scenes would have benefited from longer takes and fewer cuts.
  • The story was quite shallow, wasn't fleshed out very well. Some plotlines, that seemed to be important in the first half of the film, eventually either didn't lead to anywhere or became completely forgotten/abandoned in the second half. I found that somewhat frustrating.

But all things considered, I enjoyed this movie. It definitely worth a watch. If I have to rate it I would say it's a 6 or maybe even 7 out of 10.

I watched John Wick 4 finally, now that it's on streaming.

Definitely the climax to the story I was hoping for, though it seems like they may be doing a 5th one.

Excellent movies brimming with artistry and this one is the perfect balance of filmmaking elements.

The last movie that I saw was Asteroid City. I'm a huge fan of Wes Anderson and I always make an effort to see and love each of them but I wasn't a big fan of this one. I loved the humor and the cast and acting is fantastic but considering that there aren't any real stakes in the movie, I couldn't get too involved in the story.

Last I watched was Into the Spiderverse. Really enjoyed the movie but disliked the ending. The story wasn't bad that I didn't dislike but I don't want to spoil since it is still a relatively new movie.

Last movie I’ve seen was a Nightmare on Elm Street. Wanted something more of a horror classic when I came home this morning and passed out near the end of the film where Johnny Depp gets sucked in the bed and all. Not spoiling much even though it’s an old movie

The last movie that I saw in theaters was Ruby Gillman. I'll usually go and watch every movie that DreamWorks does but I was pretty disappointed with this one in the end. I remember the first five or so minutes had a few really good jokes but then the rest of the movie felt like all the jokes were being forced. Both the story and animation was pretty good but the humor hurt the movie in so many places.

Last movie I’ve seen (not on theaters) was Winnie the Pooh… Blood and Honey. I’m not gonna lie, I wasted my time watching that movie. I thought it would be half decent but the plot, the scenes and such was just so lackluster. It’s a cheap thrill horror movie at best

The last movie I saw was Nimona. I heard really good things about it and it ended up more than living up to my expectations.

So I’ve see a brief snippet of the movie “Soylent Green” and thought to myself that I should buy the film and see why it was popular and such. I bought the film through YouTube, watched it and my thoughts about it was more on the intriguing side and the ending… cheesy by today’s standards (the quality not the meaning) but kind of disturbing.

The last movie that I saw was Godzilla Minus One on Monday. The movie as a whole was pretty good but the scene in Ginza was one of the coolest scenes that I have ever seen. The ending was a bit predictable though.

Home Alone 1, and yes I did watch 2. Not really interested in 3 and 4. Home Alone 2 was good, but I didn't watch all of 1, only at my Grandma and Grandpa's.

The last movie that I saw was The Boy and the Heron. I originally saw it before it came out at a Film Festival in NYC and then i went to see it again recently. I think it's really good and could be one of the three best animated movies of like the last 5 years.

I just watched Unbreakable, at first I was bored, thought that it was boring, but it was a really good movie, it got better, I knew that it was like Rock One because same place and same kind of start.

zanderlex : Oh man! I want to see it. I have actually heard by some people it wasn't as good as the usual Studio Ghibli movies, but I don't know if I believe it. I want' to see it soon.

Last movie I saw was Octop****, a James Bond movie from the Roger Moore era. It was corny, not particularly great, cringy, with good action in cool locations, all the stuff you want from a James Bond movie.
