rcarter2 : The thing about hell, however, is that Jesus taught a lot on it. It is actually mentioned more in the New Testament than heaven. And God doesn't really send people to hell per se; people more or less choose to go there by denying/ignoring/disregarding the Gospel.
Someone70 : What you said, "I believe that there are only two places you can go after you die: heaven or hell. Where you go depends on whether or not you believe and accept Jesus' death on the cross as payment for your sins. It does not depend on whether or not you lived a good life, gave to the poor, helped the community, etc. Those things are good, but they will not influence your final judgement."-- This is actually a very good explanation to refute the idea that "good people" go to heaven and "bad people" go to hell.

People are to free to believe in what they want to believe, and if their faith tells them that hell exists then that's fine for them.

I on the other hand find it unreasonable to believe that a magical place exists where you go after you die, and a horrid place that exists if you are bad. That some guy is watching over from "above" and listening to our wants and needs.

We will all suffer the gnashing of teeth. The moans and yells of pain. Everyone sins. Although it's a dry heat.

I think hell as the place for evil souls, and heaven as a place for good soul. I also believed in both of them.

I agree with play4fun yet again. I think believing in a heaven without a hell is a little ludicrous, and people that hold such beliefs simply like the idea for being rewarded for good, without having to pay consequences for the bad.  If there was no hell, morality would fly out the window, as it would cease to exist or make sense.


It's like a person believing everyone should get a Nobel Prize, but that no one should go to prison.

Oldschool41 : The truth is, is that you can't earn His favor. That is not a biblical truth by any means. The only way that one can receive salvation is by accepting His gift of grace and believing in the Messiah/Christ Jesus.

Oldschool41 :  It is God's choice where you go, but that choice is determined by your actions.  If you are not aware of what it takes to be saved, please ask for some guidance from those who are saved, or better yet, pray to God and open your bible.  Find the passages that lay out salvation and read them yourself.  

It does not matter how badly you have sinned, for Jesus Christ can wash you clean, as though you never sinned.   But you must come into a saving relationship with Him first.
