Hmmm... I'm a little rusty at Black/White. But lemme answer your question.

My personal view is that EV training is a good way to boost stats in the way that you want them to go. I personally am not using them to my full advantage during my play through of Black, however I know that an experienced enough trainer would use them as much as possible. My advice to newbie trainers is to make sure you get your EV points correctly. You can only give 255 EV points to a certain stat, and 550 to your entire Pokemon before it loses affect.

the_casualty : Really? I was expecting water. Just about every water type can learn ice attacks as well which allows it to combat grass (one of it's two weaknesses). Water pokemon tend to have good defense as well.
