Did you know? -

When Helium is cooled to almost absolute zero, the lowest temperature possible, it becomes a liquid with surprising properties! It flows against gravity and will start running up and over the lip of a glass container!

Osmium is the densest material on the planet (about 22 grams per cubic centimeter, 10 percent heavier than gold). A (American) football made of it would weight 232 kg.

There are actually many different types of plain water. One of the other kinds is called Heavy water, which is the same as regular water but has one extra Hydrogen atom and changes up the characteristics of the water. It is 10% more dense than regular water, so about 1.1 density, and it freezes at a warmer temperature than normal water (about 39 degrees F (3.82 degrees C))

This kind of water is quite dangerousactually, but it's also quite rare, only about 1 in every 3200 atoms.

Jordanv78 : Nothing can ever reach absolute zero. It's physically impossible. There's always some movement due to quantum uncertainty. The rest of what you say is true though. I just saw a video about it a little while back.

zanderlex : Does it actually exist in nature or it is exclusively a by-product of uranium fission?

Ferdinand : besides, absolute zero might need to change. From what I heard about experiments, there is still "a lot" of atomic activity even in the close vicinity of -273.15 Celsius.

Random fact of the day: we are ALL eating genetically modified organisms... as it is the basis of modern agriculture. Without cross pollenization and artificial selection for humans, crops like corn, rice, fruits and produce would hardly be edible. I remember this picture of a painting for the Middle Ages showing a water melon. It looks NOTHING like what we have today.

-If someone tweets about an earthquake, people about 150 miles away will read the tweet a few seconds before they feel the quake.
-One third of all animal species discovered so far are species of beetles.
-Light is so fast, it can go around the earth 7 times a second.
-Out of the 118 elements we know of, only two are liquid. (Mercury and Bromine)
-Also, more than 75% are metal.

Hmm...

Random science fact?

How about Science has 7 letters?

That's more than 6, but less than 8.

Isn't it interesting?

Did you know that...

1. The ice caps on Antarctica are a mile high above the actual land.

2. The temperature known as as Absolute Zero, the coldest that cold can get, is -459.67 degrees. (-273.15 Celcius)

Did you know? -

1. The word "scientist" first appeared in 1883.

2. Scientists finally concluded that the chicken came first, not the egg. This is because the protein which makes egg shells is only produced by hens.

3. 41 new species of animal are discovered every day by scientists.

4. A new scientific method called "toxineering" turns venoms into painkillers.

- We have found traces of water on mars. This means that there could very well be life, even if it's bacteria or whatever, living on mars.

- Technically, nothing can be "Scientifically proven". The only thing that is 100% true no matter what is Mathematics.

- Speaking of which, when trying to send messages to alien life forms or future travelers, humanity has "spoken" through maths, again because it's true in any part of the world.

- The mozart effect (Listening to classical music makes you smarter) actually is true. For around 10 minutes after hearing it. It helps with cognitive thinking and other parts of the brain for a while.

- Harrison Ford was the person who invented the 5 day work week. Before there was a 6 day work week, meaning most people didn't have any free time to themselves (Sunday was reserved for church and other religious activities.), Ford realized that by giving his employees more time off and more money, the economy would grow. Which it did, which made Ford's company grow exponentially.

- A study show people spend around 52% of their jobs slacking off, mostly because the 40 hour work week is too long considering how technology has helped make our jobs easier.

- 90% of people already have herpes. And herpes, really isn't that bad.

According to a book I read recently, all the gold ever mined in human history would fit in a cube 60 feet in length (1829 cm). Compare that to the amount of iron we extract each year and still use everywhere (steel, mostly).
