"Unless the economy is going to pick up on its own, he will probably get blamed for a lot of stuff that was out of his control."

It's still his job to get things done.... he is the President and leader of the country. If he can't get things done with a split legislative branch then he doesn't deserve to be president in 2 years.

"An increase in government spending is an increase in government spending" No, there is a big difference between increasing spending on something we actually need and something wasteful which is happening now, bailouts are wasteful and not apart of capitalism.

geeogree : I don't know if you understand how politics in the US works, but when the houses are split like this, it is very difficult for anyone to make anything happen. When one party puts out a piece of legislation, the other can simply block it. All Obama can really do is try to work with the Republicans, which he has already been trying unsuccefully. As I said with the economy, we will never know for certain how effective the bailouts were, and at this point, there isn't much he can do to magically make everything work again.

Hoochman : Where you are spending the money is irrelevant. Deny it all you want, but government spending is still government spending. And show me where capitalism specifically forbids bailouts.

Traduweise : Actually you seem to be the one in denial, where you spend money is very relevant. It doesn't take a big promoted website to figure that out, all it takes is a little commonsense. Government intervention such as bailouts or stimulus packages are part of whats called a command economy which most socialist nations use. Capitalism is free market. Its about competition, and there isn't any when government gets involved.

Hoochman : Don't try to change the subject. You tried to cite Reagan as someone who "cut everything," and practised small government. Reagan, far from cutting everything, raised government spending and did not practise small government. Whether the spending was justified or not is irrelevant.

Besides that, capitalism is simply an economic system in which trade is owned and conducted privately. Beyond that, it wide open. Subsidies and bailouts have been a part of capitalism for as long as capitalism has been around, and there has never been a truly free market in history.

Traduweise : I'm not changing the subject. And I still stick to that, Reagan cut everything, lowered taxes and greatly raised defense spending greatly, once again, its very relevant what the spending was, and its not private and free enterprise when the government gets involved.

Hoochman : Do you understand English? If Reagan had indeed cut everything, he would have also cut the military. Instead, he increased it, thus making it impossible for him to have cut everything. I don't see how that is difficult to comprehend.

And because bailouts do not in themselves transfer ownership of property or trade rights, they are not mutually exclusive to capitalism.
