I do not have life-threatening allergies myself, but I was curious how any Vizzed users discovered that they had life-threatening allergies or allergies in general. What is your story? How did you learn you had them?

I have seasonal allergies but I forget every year that I have them and wonder why my eyes are so itchy and eventually buy allergy medication.

I have a life-threatening allergy to pistachios. I had a few instances in my life where I had accidently eaten pistachios or food that had trace amounts of them. I discovered it when I was about 10 after I had been offered some by a friend. If I eat only a couple (like 1-2) it's not as severe, but any more and my throat begins to swell up significantly. The last time it happened to me, I had eaten about 8 pistachios without knowing, and nearly wound up in the hospital shortly after. Other than that, I also get seasonal allergies (like pollen) and dust also makes my allergies act up.

MoblinGardens : I personally never had any allergies. The only allergies I get are during Spring. Your typical seasonal allergies. Likewise, I have no food or drink allergies. As a matter of fact, I never think about any type of allergies ever. Not even the seasonal allergies you would get in Spring.

MoblinGardens : I'm not really sure if this is technically an allergy, but it functions basically the same, where some people aren't affected and some people are. It has to do with unsanitized water. For example, if I were to drink tap water in Pakistan, I'd have diarrhea for about a week, meanwhile my Grandma's servant can drink tap water and be just fine. This sort of stuff has happened to me once, when I drank a soda in Pakistan at a theater, however I assume they put a diluent in it, since it was a cup, and I got diarrhea. Another instance happened in Turkey, where my brother and mother ate watermelon they bought, but I assume the guy must've washed it with tap water since they got diarrhea. However, this condition is caused by your environment. You see, in First World countries, they usually sanitize the water, so there are less diseases in it. Because of this, if you are born in a country where water is sanitized or have lived in a country where it is sanitized for a very long time, you don't develop immunity to diseases to unsanitized water (or lose the immunities if you used to live in a place with unsanitized water), so if you drink unsanitized water, you'll get diarrhea. However, if you drink unsanitized water for long periods of time, you get immunities to it.

My only Allergy is to a medicine which I think was spelled something like Sulfa which I believed a dr gave me when I was sick when I was little and the next day I woke up broke out in hives I don't know how life-threatening that is but I don't think I had to the hospital or anything so I assume it's probably okay?

I can’t take cold showers if that counts as an allergy? I don’t know why but my skin starts becoming so irritated each time I take a cold shower or whenever I’m in cold water at a beach or lake, something like that… I get super itchy and irritated and body turns red where I’m scratching (duh) and it kinda persists until I get into some heat or my skin dries. I don’t know if anyone else has that problem (if it is an allergic reaction or just a warm blooded issue) but I tend to take hot showers on a daily. I be happy to take a cold shower without the irritation one day during a hot summer weather

I have seasonal allergies in the Spring and Fall. As for life threatening allergies. I would not call them life threatening but I had very bad reactions to the MMR Vaccine and Tetanus Vaccine.

When I was 4 I was given the MMR vaccine which was standard at that time. A few hours after getting the vaccine. I swelled up, and became very lethargic. To make matters worse I started shaking really bad. My mom called the doctor and they told her to give me certain medicine if that didn't work they were going to admit me to the hospital to reverse the reaction. Thankfully the medicine worked but the doctors said I think your child is one of the few that cannot take certain vaccines.

At the age of 22 I earned my Associates degree so I was transferring to a 4 year university to work on my Bachelors. The school required everybody to get a Tetanus Shot. Even if you were not going to be living in a dorm you still had to get the vaccine. My primary care doctor, at that time, gave Tetanus shots, so I let her give me one. In 10 minutes I started swelling, jerking, kicking, getting dizzy and my lips were turning numb. My doctor seeing what was happening quickly gave me an anti reaction medicine. If it failed she was going to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital. Thankfully the medicine worked. After 30 minutes and she saw I was okay she said I don't think we need to do that one again.

It's not exactly life threatening but a lot of people that know me know that I shouldn't be eating chocolate. I can have chocolate that's mixed with other stuff or a different flavor so like whit chocolate, three musketeers, recess cups are things that I can have but regular chocolate or chocolate flavored things will probably make me throw up or break my stomach for like 10 minutes afterwards, especially if it's strong.

Luckily, I have no food allergies. But sadly, pollen is my archenemy. Wherever I live (even in semi arid Texas), I sneeze like there is no tomorrow.

It was particularly bad in San Jose, CA, in 2017, when they had the most rain in a long time. I emptied a box of tissues within a month. And what I thought helped me relieve allergy symptoms (generic Allegra) doesn't anymore.
