So I came across this challenge on Youtube the other day and I thought it was an interesting idea. See how long you can survive in a fresh minecraft world on Hardcore.

This is actually a lot harder than it sounds. I've played the game for years and years but the idea that a single death could ruin my world generally put me off of trying this out.

However, now that 90% of my building is done on Vizzed and I generally only play challenge maps offline it seemed like a fun time to do this.

So far I've done this twice and died fairly early on both times. Both times to creeper blasts that I didn't see coming. On hardcore you don't survive creeper blasts in full iron (unenchanted) armor so if you aren't paying attention you can be taken out quite easily.

The first map I survived about 11 days. I went out for the first time at night to try and torch around the wall I had built. While I was doing that a creeper walked up behind me and attacked me and that was that.

The second map I did I think I got to 15 days. Instead of being on the surface this time I was caving trying to build up resources so I could get diamond armor and start enchanting when a creeper blasted me.

Knowing the point of the map is to survive as long as possible and not worrying about building anything nice has made this a lot of fun. I'm trying to see if I can break 50 or 100 in game days of staying alive. It's easy if you sleep every night (which I was doing any time I was on the surface) but once you start trying to work on the surface in the dark it becomes a LOT more tense and interesting. There isn't any point in holding anything back. I always had my best stuff on me and it still didn't matter. Best stuff was just iron armor at that point but still....

Anyway, I'd be interested if anyone else has or is willing to try and do this with me. I'm going to start another map sometime soon and see how it goes. I'm starting to learn what I need to do in order to survive properly in a hardcore world.

I've actually done that a bunch. Unfortunately I'm on pocket edition bedrock right now, so I couldn't really join you. It doesn't even have hard core mode. I got a taste of having my world wiped on here though, when I accidentally deleted 50+ hours or so of maps I had worked on. One was a recreation of the neighborhood I used to live in.

I think it's imperative on hard core to hoard torches and scatter them everywhere you can. That way you ensure no mobs spawn nearby and ambush you. I like to make a large base, designed in a way that lets me see surrounding mobs. One way I accomplished this was making slits in walls via half slabs, as enemies can't go through them, and they allow me to see outside with ease.

I would assume it's also important to focus on armor to survive potential creeper blasts. Though I'd be more worried about Endermen if I were you, those things are pretty much the only mob I feel severely threatened by, apart from maybe a skeleton with an enchanted bow.

pennylessz : fair enough. I've so rarely had issues with endermen though. And skeletons are only an issue before I have iron armor. Once I have iron armor then skeletons aren't too dangerous.

Creepers I find are the only real dangerous thing 90% of the time. Instant death is too much of a risk.

I agree about torches though. I'm trying to build up a wall and then torch everything inside my village and hope things are safe. Who knows how it'll go.

As with all Minecraft it's something that i might be interested in.

For me it'd be more the appeal of just playing with people and trying to have a fun time whilst chatting. The problem being that not many people that i know of actually are vocal on Vizzed. By that i mean over the years it's very rare for any sort of voice interaction to occur. Especially over the last few years when site activity wasn't like it was in like 2012 for example.

If there's peopel willing to just chat and goof then i'm in.. If not then i probably won't be.

I understand that not everyone has the capability or circumstances to be able to chat in voice obviously.. It just makes my enjoyment of all games that much better when i can chat and joke about it with others.

sonicmcmuffin : I wasn't thinking so much of a group game and more of a single player challenge.

Just make a hardcore map and see how long you can last in it before dying.

I just started another one and I'm at 18 days so far. I've got enchanting going (just basic so far) and I'm trying to work my way up to having full enchanting so I can feel more safe exploring the nether and spending time out at night.

After I've got some decent enchanted gear (hopefully diamond) I think I'm going to work on mining for netherite so I can fully upgrade my gear. Also going to work on upgrading some villagers in the hopes of getting mending books. I know it's possible but I need to research which villagers will do it.

After that I don't really know. Maybe the end?

Lots of Youtubers who I watch that play hardcore make a big deal of lasting 100 days. I don't think I've ever gotten past 10 days but as long as you know what you're doing, it's not too hard.

I'm going to do this again when I get a chance, maybe even record or livestream it.
