I've always been a massive fan of Kingdra.
Design wise it's one of the most majestic Pokemon ever made. It is the perfect continuation to Seadra, keeping the overall aesthetic of its pre evolutions while adding details and giving off a powerful vibe. I think we can all relate to the moment Blackthorn City Gym Leader Clair first sent it out in battle and we sat there shocked at what we were up against. It is one of the rare Pokemon that have kept looking great throughout all its sprites and models over all its generations.
Its typing is also amazing. Back in its debut generation Water/Dragon was both completely unique to itself as well as just overall one of the best type combinations in the game. It had amazing quadruple resistances to the likes of Fire and Water, while only being weak to Dragon itself, a type which at the type was only given to the Dratini line and Kingdra, while not having a wide selection or distribution of moves to hit Kingdra with. Dragon neutralizing Water's weaknesses to Grass and Electric also helped a lot as Kingdra for the most part was never going to get hit super effectively. Water/Dragon was later granted to the Legendary Pokemon Palkia, further pushing the narrative of it being an almost untouchable combination. While it gaining a new weakness to Fairy in generation 6 wasn't great, Kingdra could still hit them super effectively with both Sludge Bomb and Flash Cannon, not rendering it completely useless. In fact, it wouldn't be until all the way in generation 8 where the holy typing of Water/Dragon was summoned yet again. What majestic being could hold the honor that comes along the typing bestowed upon it? A mutilated fish of course. Oh well, Kingdra is still the OG.
Its stats are among the most balanced in the game. Base 75 HP is about as bang average as it gets for HP, while its offensive and defensive stats all are at a respectable base 95. This allows Kingdra to run a variety of sets, defensively or offensively on both sides of the spectrum. It's never easy to predict what kind of Kingdra you're facing. Rounding off its stats is its base 85 Speed, which isn't amazing by today's standards but Kingdra has some tools to make up for that.
Kingdra was blessed with two amazing abilities in Swift Swim and Sniper. Sniper is a gimmick in and of itself but Kingdra can make good use of it with the combination of a Scope Lens as its held item as well as the move Focus Energy, greatly improving its chances to score crits which get buffed even further by Sniper. Crits were nerfed in gen 6 to only do 1.5 times the damage instead of the previous 2, but to make up for that the overall odds to crit are increased. With Scope Lens and Focus Energy, Kingdra is now guaranteed to score a crit every single turn. Combine that with the moves Agility or Dragon Dance to increase its mediocre speed and you will be killing a lot of Pokemon, being able to sweep teams especially later on in the match. Another plus side is that crits ignore the stat drops given by Draco Meteor, its strongest attack.
Swift Swim however is where the real beauty lies. It makes Kingdra one of the most dangerous Pokemon on teams that rely on the Rain weather condition. Sounds like a gimmick but Rain teams have been popular ever since generation 4. Doubling its speed by default under rain means it no longer needs to set up with Dragon Dance or Agility, granting you immediate power that can get boosted with a Life Orb or Choice Specs item. In generation 8 they even gave Kingdra the move Hurricane, a 120 base flying move that, like Thunder, always hits in the rain. It now has a really good tool to hit bulky grass types like Tangrowth or Amoonguss, no longer having to rely on the weaker Ice Beam.
Oh and we don't talk about its hidden ability Damp, it's not nearly as useful as the two mentioned above.
Overall Kingdra is just an amazing Pokemon. It will always be one of the original Dragons, the tricky way to obtaining it will always make it a rare and valuable Pokemon, but more importantly it will always be an extremely powerful Pokemon to have, both in game and competitively speaking. Who doesn't like Kingdra? Crazy people. Or that mutilated Fish lmao, although I love him too and he's one of my other favorite Dragon types.
