I think in this scenario, the college would have to be very close to the places with the original neutral sites, to minimize travel. So the missed games would be made up at the soonest possible convenience, rather than end of the season.

I also just find the idea of them playing on a college field dubious, feel like there's a better chance that they would outright cancel the games.

I'm really hoping that an agreement can be made soon to bring baseball back but with the current plan for divisions, I don't see a way that an 82 game season makes sense.

An 81 game season makes sense because each team can play 9 games each against the other 9 teams in the division.

A 78 game season also makes sense because each team could play 12 games against teams from their own divisions and 6 games against teams from the opposite division. For example the Mets could play 12 against NL East and 6 against AL East.

82 doesn't really work into a schedule unless one team plays more against one team.
