I've recreated the incredibly ugly and outdated 'Game Editor' page from the ground up! It has mostly the same purpose and functionality but more secure and far more organized.
I made this thread in a public forum because this page, like before, is the same page that regular users use to make content request submissions. Below are all of the things I wanted to point out about the new page.
Categories
All of the editable game variables are grouped up into distinguishable categories. Clicking a category at the top scrolls you down to that category and clicking that category again brings you back to the top.
Cleaner
Each item that you can edit has its own box, helping to give it a clean and organized look. Hovering over a box of content expands the details of it.
Highlights
Any variable that already has detail will be highlighted so that it's quicker to find content that needs to be edited and also helps make it obvious which content is missing.
Dropdowns
Some content types now have dropdowns which makes it easier to know what available options there are and makes it more user friendly to not have to type those things in.
Fullscreen Mode
By default, when you click the 'Edit Game' link, it'll open up the Game Editor in a popup window. That window can be expanded and the content will fill the window. You can also right click the link and choose to have the page open in a new tab where it'll fill the entire window quicker.
New Link Location
You can still find the 'Edit Page' link for editing a game in the same spot as before but I've also now added an 'Edit Game' link to the top left of the game's page.
CP Earnings Listed
Previously, it only showed you how much
Viz you earned for editing a game, not how much CP, even though you also earned CP before. It now shows both the CP and
Viz.
New Editable Variables
There's a few additional things that can now be changed:
-System
(if a game accidentally gets assigned to the wrong system, this is useful)
-File Size
(if the site didn't give the game the proper file size or didn't give the game a file size at all)
-Search
(these are the search keywords the site generates for the 'advanced search' feature)
Better Logging
When content gets edited, the
Game Content logger now lists what the content was edited from. Before it only logged what it was being changed to.
Efficiently Programmed
I programmed the page efficiently enough which will allow me to very easily add additional editable content in the future. The previous page was a real chore to add new fields. Not the case this time thankfully.
This page needed to be remade for a long time. It was one of the most outdated pages of the site still being used. I've been working on this new page on and off for over a month now and it was well worth the time invested.
