So this used to be one of the most active forum games so I decided to bring it back to encourage more activity.

The concept is similar to other forum games;

someone posts a Pokemon and the next user to post gives the Pokemon a rating from 1-10, along with their reasoning for rating them that way (could be anything from design, competitive use to personal history with the Pokemon). They then name the next Pokemon to rate and so on.

Thread is put at 1 post / hour, enjoy!

The first Pokemon to rate is Hypno.

Luxray is a mediocre electric type that really gets outclassed by practically everything else. I mean it's too slow to be an effective scarfer in the higher tiers, its ability Guts almost forces you to run Flame Orb on it but it's terrible 70 base speed paired with its subpar bulk means that it will usually only get 1 guts boosted hit off anyway.

If you want to use a slower electric type, please go with Eelektross instead as that thing boasts a ground immunity, better bulk, a much better speed tier and much better coverage.

Outside of competitive play it has a pretty cool design though, but it's a shame it never got the Electric / Dark type it coveted. Pretty decent in a playthrough of Platinum or something.

6/10

Starmie was an absolute beast in gen 1 being one of the best special sweepers in the game. With access to not only the usual water and ice type moves that water types have, but also having access to psychic and thunderbolt made Starmie one of the scariest Pokemon to face in early Pokemon generations. Even now, it's still got a spot in UU in competitive, which is actually very impressive considering that it came from gen 1. I also really like it's design. Overall, Starmie's deserving of an 8/10 in my book.

The next Pokemon to rate is my favorite Pokemon Lucario.

I've always liked Lucario, it has a great design, a good mega evolution, great movepool, and competitively viable stats to boot. With 110 Attack and 115 Special attack, it isn't limited in the types of moves it can use, and with average defenses and a solid base 90 speed, it is able to fulfill its role as a sweeper fairly well with proper setup and training.

I rate Lucario an 8 out of 10.

The next pokemon to rate is Gyarados.

Gyarados is another great gen 1 water type. It has a very intimidating design, and it's got a nice ability in intimidate. Having a 4x weakness to electric doesn't do it any favors though. Thankfully it's only other weakness is to rock, ironic considering it's main type is water. One thing I've never understood about Gyarados though is why the heck can it not learn fly??? It's part flying type for crying out loud! The only other flying types that can't learn fly are Gligar, Gliscor, and all bug/flying types. Overall though, Gyarados is one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. It has a high attack stat, and it's intimidate ability makes up for having a mediocre defense stat. It also has a high special defense stat. Overall, Gyarados is still to this day one of the best Pokemon to come from the first 2 gens of Pokemon.

I'm going to give Gyarados an 8 out of 10.

The next Pokemon to rate is Luvdisc.

Luvdisc is by far one of the single most attractive beings ever created by the art team of the Pokemon Company. I mean just look at it, it's so pink and tiny and cute and pink.

It's also shaped like a heart, how could you not love it? D:

But then we look at its stats. No point denying it, they're s*** all across the board. Its only saving grace might be its admittedly good 97 base speed stat, but with paper thin defenses and what offensive stats even, it won't do it much good aside from maybe nailing a toxic or something. But leave that to its big bro Alomomola, who is better in practically any aspect.

Luvdisc does have a shining use though, being that it has a 50% chance of granting you a glorious heart scale upon capture, which would allow you to obtain some rare moves on your pokemon. Good for you, Luvdisc!

Its abilities are nice in Swift Swim and Hydration, but with no stats to back them up it doesn't even matter.

4/10 for the heart scales

The next Pokemon to rate is Ludicolo

Ludicolo definitely fits the definition of an underwhelming pokemon for me. All of its stats are mediocre across the board excluding its base 90 special attack and 100 special defense. In addition to underwhelming stats, its secondary grass typing does it more harm than good by piling on flying, poison, and bug weaknesses while not at least giving it any useful resistances (4x resistance to water is unneeded, it would've been better off as a mono water type).

Overall, even with a decent-ish movepool, it still requires a lot of support and a good ability to really do in anything. Ludicolo appreciates rain because it helps boost its speed (with swift swim) and water type moves. Even then though, the same could be said for stronger better water types like Kingdra, Omastar, and Kabutops.

Also, Ludicolo's design has always looked weird to me, even for a pokemon.

I rate it a 4/10 because while it isn't a stellar pokemon, it is definitely usable.

The next pokemon to rate is Tyranitar.

Tyranitar is the pseudo legendary for generation 2, and it definitely lives up to that hype. I mean the thing is just a monster, with great attack and bulk, allowing it to live more hits than you'd expect from a rock type and be able to hit back hard with powerful moves of its own.

Now it does obviously have a pretty low speed stat, but this can be bypassed through the use of either trick room teams or the amazing boosting move Dragon Dance, which boosts both its speed and its damage output.

Tyranitar was already a beast in the generation it first appeared in, but in generation 3 it was gifted the incredible Sand Stream ability, which up until generation 6 meant permanent Sandstorm, unless someone else changed the weather. This was even further enhanced in Generation 4, where Rock type Pokemon gained a 50% increase to their Special Defense when Sandstorm was up, even further increasing its longevity. Also the physical/special split allows it to gain physical dark moves, including the physical pursuit, as well as all the elemental punches.

Starting in generation 6 it also was blessed with a Mega Evolution, that retained the Sand Stream ability but gained an increase in all its other stats, making it even more lethal. Not to mention how bad ass the design is.

So with its amazing Coverage, Stats, Ability and Design I just have to give Tyranitar a 10/10, it's definitely my favorite pseudo legendary Pokemon.

Whimsicott is an easy pokemon to overlook in both the competitive and casual scene. Upon first glance, it just looks like a generic grass type, but it actually has a decent defensive typing of grass/fairy. With an excellent speed of 116 and access to good moves like Moonblast, Psychic, U-turn, Energy Ball, and Cotton Guard, it can pass as a decent wallbreaker. It also has access to some useful abilities that either allow it to have doubled speed in sunlight (Chlorophyll), have its moves bypass Substitutes and certain shields like Reflect and Light Screen (Infiltrator), or have increased priority for its status inducing moves (Prankster).

Unfortunately though, its average special attack and mediocre bulk hinder its survivability and ability to pressure opponents, which limits how well it can fulfill its role.

All things considered, even though I've never used Whimsicott before, it's a decent pokemon that can act as a good wallbreaker with a little investment. Investment is key though, without it, its full potential won't be reached.

I rate Whimsicott a 6.5/10.

Heracross has been a monster since the time when it was released. I mean that base 120 Megahorn has terrified players since generation 2 and paired with a monstrous attack stat you can never sleep on a heracross.

Its typing obviously leaves much to be desired, having plenty of common weaknesses, but at least its fighting type leaves it neutral to stealth rocks so that's something I guess.

Ability wise Heracross tended to always run Guts, until the dreamworld granted it the lovely Moxie, which gives it an attack boost after every kill it got, which happened frequently with that attack stat and wide movepool.

In generation 6 it was among the lucky ones to receive a mega evolution, and mega heracross just gained so much attack that it's too crazy to talk about. I mean 185 base attack is just insane and will probably kill anything that doesn't resist its attacks. Not to mention the fact that its new ability Skill Link allows it to gain a 125 base power pin missile, which not only has better PP and accuracy than Megahorn, but also completely negates any sturdy or focus sash users. A base 125 power Rock Blast allows it to deal with its fire and flying weaknesses quite well, and with bug already taking care of psychic that only really leaves fairy as a counter.

Its mediocre speed does mean it frequently has to rely on speed control in either trick room or through sticky webs, but once it gets going it's unstoppable, especially if it got a moxie boost before mega evolving.

It also still remains one of the best designed Bug type pokemon, even though its mega evolution took a rather strange turn.

9/10 easily.

Breloom has always been a bit of an enigma for me. It's got a couple of good abilities. Poison Heal's great, but Breloom's typing combined with it's low defenses makes it not worth having. It's hidden ability Technician is it's best ability because it makes Bullet Seed, which is normally a base 25 move a very threatening move especially if it hits more than twice in a turn.

Like most grass types, it's got a ton of weaknesses. Adding the fighting type to it gives it a 4x weakness to flying types. It's also weak to fire, ice, psychic, poison, and fairy. All of those are bad types to be weak to, so Breloom won't last very long in a fight. Putting that together with low defense and special defense stats along with a not so great base 70 speed makes it practically require a choice scarf to be of any use in a fight.

I've always wanted to like Breloom. I've always liked it's design, and I do love unique fighting types that don't look like humans. It's just a shame that it's never been good as a competitive Pokemon...

I'm giving Breloom a 3/10

Alolan Ninetales is probably my favorite of the Alola forms, and with good reason.

They somehow took the already beautifully designed Ninetales and made it even more majestic and gorgeous. Not to mention the drastic change in typing, instead of the usual small change we saw.

Ice type has always been shaky. Offensively, yeah they're great. Hitting Grass, Ground, Flying and Dragon all for super effective damage is insanely valuable. Defensively however, it's by far hands down the worst type in the game. It boasts only one resistance, which is itself, and has a ton of common weaknesses like Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel.

Basically if you want to be a successful ice type you'll need to hit so hard that your opponents have no chance to retaliate. Things like Mamoswine or Weavile accomplish this nicely.

But Alolan Ninetales was also granted a fairy typing, which is hands down the best type in the game. An immunity to dragon alongside two super effective stabs really make it the ultimate dragon counter, and fairy is fantastic offensively as well. Alolan Ninetales has the speed to back this up which makes it somewhat relevant at least.

Its Snow Cloak ability leaves much to be desired, but its hidden ability Snow Warning causes it to start hailing for 5 turns when you send it out in battle. This means that you can run 100% accurate Blizzards, have your non ice opponents take chip damage every turn, and with its new move Aurora Veil basically set up Reflect and Light Screen in one package. This makes it a fantastic hail setter for weather teams.

Obviously a bullet punch from any Pokemon will kill it but such is the way of life.

8/10

The next Pokemon to rate will be Reuniclus.

Reuniclus has been a solid Calm Mind/Trick Room user with good bulk and typing since its debut in gen 2. Its excellent base 110 HP offsets its middling defenses of 75 and 85. If it's able to get a Calm Mind up, it can take serious advantage of its high special attack of 125 and punch holes in teams. It can even accomplish this against speedy offensive teams by abusing Trick Room and turning their speed against them. With a pitiful base speed of 30, Trick Room is always a viable choice in competitive battling since so many competitive pokemon heavily rely on their speed to succeed.

If having good bulk, access to Calm Mind and Trick Room wasn't enough, it also has access to the ability Magic Guard which further augments its survivability by preventing it from taking indirect damage from status moves like burn and poison and moves that whittle away HP like Leech Seed and Curse. While it can still be burned or poisoned, it will not suffer from HP loss like it normally would without Magic Guard.

Having used Reuniclus on my team and competitively since Black and White 2, I can vouch for how much of a monster Reuniclus can be, especially with the right ability and tools I mentioned above. Before I knew anything about its stats or abilities, I chose to use it on my team simply because it looked really unique. Its final evolution definitely looks the part of a Psychic type.

Reuniclus gets a well deserved 9/10 from me.

The next pokemon to rate is Galvantula.

Galvantula is one of my favorite bug types (all of generation 5's bug types were awesome to be fair) with a unique Electric/Bug typing.

It has 3 different abilities, being Compound Eyes, Unnerve and Swarm.

Unnerve is okay, especially with how common 50% berries are in the current metagame, but aside from preventing your opponents from using those it really isn't all that useful most of the time.

Swarm, its hidden ability, just boosts the power of Bug moves by 30% when under a third of its health. This can have its uses but it relies on you being almost dead so overall you'll probably only get one use out of it in every battle. It could pair fairly well with a focus sash set though.

Now its real amazing ability is Compound Eyes. Getting a 30% accuracy boost means it's one of the only pokemon not hit by the thunder wave accuracy nerf, and most notably it will have 91% accurate thunders, meaning your damage output will be way higher than with a standard thunderbolt. That also means that you'll be able to enjoy a 30% paralysis chance with that, as opposed to the usual 10 with thunderbolt.

Galvantula overall was mediocre in gen 5, but in gen 6 it gained the new entry hazard Sticky Webs, which upon laying it down will lower the speed of all your opponent's pokemon by 1 every time they switch in, unless they're off the ground or have an ability preventing this from happening like Clear Body. Due to its great 108 base speed it's one of the fastest sticky web users, meaning that with a focus sash it can safely set them up and hit whatever is on the field hard with a thunder or a bug buzz.

It doesn't have the greatest special attack, being only 97 in base stats, but due to how you don't need bulk on it you can typically run a standard 252/252 spread between special attack and speed, meaning with the extra power from thunder you'll still hit respectably hard.

Overall I'll give it a 7.5/10 as it's good at what it does but suicide leads can be a double edged sword in competitive play, as one rapid spin or defog likely means the end of galvantula's use in battle.

The next Pokemon to rate will be Qwilfish

Oh goody... Qwilfish. Time to rip this thing to shreds

My dislike of Qwilfish aside, it actually saw use in OU in Gold/Silver, Diamond/Pearl, and even Ubers in both Diamond/Pearl and Black/White because of its immunity to Poison Spikes (due to its typing), solid abilities in Poison Point, Swift Swim, and Intimidate, a good speed stat, and a good movepool that compliments its role as a setup/spike lead.

With Poison Point, arguably its best ability, Qwilfish has a 30% chance to poison an opposing pokemon on contact. Swift Swim allows it to receive a much needed power and speed boost in the rain, and Intimidate helps it survive a bit longer by lowering the opposing pokemon's attack stat. In addition to a good movepool of Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sludge Bomb, Waterfall, and Taunt to prevent opponents from setting up, it also has access to Swords Dance and Thunder Wave for other options outside of setting up Spikes. With its good Water/Poison typing, it is able to effectively check common fire, fighting, steel, and fairy types.

Unfortunately, low base stats and lack of reliable recovery outside of Pain Split really cripple its usability in the current meta. As much utility as it has, it can't stay in for long because of how easily it can be worn down. Overall, I rate Qwilfish a 7/10 since it's still a viable spike setter and a top pick for rain-based teams.

The next pokemon to rate is Scizor.

Oh boy, Scizor is arguably the best bug type they've ever made. It has to be top 3 at least.

It was one of the original batch of steel types introduced in generation 2, and while it lost a lot of speed when it evolved from Scyther, the extra steel typing means that it now only has one weakness in fire, although it is a 4x effective one. Still, one weakness means that you match up pretty well against most pokemon right from the start.

Scizor has a massive 130 attack stat with a solid 70/100/80 defensive spread, meaning it will usually survive at least one hit before going down, unless it's flamethrower of course.

Bug and Steel is a pretty good stab combination, and it gets plenty of coverage as well.

In generation 3 scizor gained Swarm as its ability, which basically gave it a 30% increase to bug attacks when under a third of its HP. Now that might sound good but there were barely any good bug moves in the game, with the best one available to scizor being hidden power bug, for which you had to have a very specific IV spread.

In generation 4 however, it gained a new ability in technician, giving all its moves that are 60 base power or less a 1.5 increase, meaning its many weaker moves like the new bug bite, the incredible bullet punch for priority, aerial ace among more where all boosted. The physical/ special split also meant it had a very strong pursuit at its disposal, and with swords dance it could easily set up on weaker pokemon and sweep teams. The fact that it is a bug type not weak to stealth rocks also helps it out a ton.

In generation 5 it gained light metal as a hidden ability, but it's pretty useless and should never be used over technician. The weather generation helped it a lot as well as rain teams were dominant, which obviously weakened scizor's only weakness in fire attacks. A choice band set was a very deadly late game sweeper.

In generation 6 Scizor gained a mega evolution, which luckily kept the broken Technician ability. It gave Scizor even more power, but more importantly a lot more longevity due to the now 140/100 defenses it had. Unfortunately running mega Scizor did mean that the choice banded set was no longer an option, which is why people usually use their mega slot on something else as regular scizor was still really viable. Especially with fairies running around, that insane steel priority in boosted bullet punch made it a fairy slayer.

Not much changed for Scizor in generation 7 except the fact that it can use Z moves, although it will most probably still run life orb swords dance or choice band.

All in all a fantastic Pokemon that deserves a 9/10

7/10 I have heard really good things about it and I can see why tons of people both like it and use it but I just don't really like it that much but I do think that it is a good pokemon regardless, I have never used one though.

Ugh, like a 4/10?

I don't hate it really but it's a little underwhelming for a route 1 rodent. I think Greedent, its evolution, is cuter. Also it just doesn't help in any way in battle due to how weak it is.

The next Pokemon to rate will be Ludicolo
