I didn't really hate FFXV too much. I thought that the Warrior Prince theme was pretty cool and that some of the characters were decent and interesting but I was a bit disappointed with the story and that it wasn't completed all at once. I felt that the "fantasy based on reality" concept was wasted and didn't live up to it's potential. What I am wondering with XVI(Which might probably be a PS5 release) is that will it still be Science Fantasy or be a lot like III, V and IX and be like High Fantasy.
What do you guys think? Should the next Final Fantasy game stay on it's path or change things up?

lordbelial669 : I really think Final Fantasy is missing an opportunity to make darker high fantasy games. The Witcher and Game of Thrones show us that people like Dark Fantasy. I feel like FF7 is responsible for keep Square Enix on the science fantasy stuff.

I would really like to see it go back to "High Fantasy" like in the ones you mentioned. XV to me was just too much, too close to real that it didn't feel the same at all. Plus it seems there was too much happening all the time.

VIII was my all time favorite, but I also realize that one was kind of a "black sheep" of it's time too and in a sense breaking away from the traditional formula of what FF is. I'd like to see changeable classes/jobs come back and more strategic playing rather than mindless button mashing.

Final Fantasy VII is probably taking priority, they've spent an eon on it. I would like XVI to be a Sci fi style like VII, but it will probably have a lot of open fields and things, think the beginning of Xenoblade. It will certainly be open world, and Scifi doesn't fit that in an RPG, it's harder to procedurally generate like that.

I kind of hope it takes a few lessons from what both XIII and XV did wrong, and what X and XII did right.

All you need to have a successful FF game is a fun story, and fun gameplay. It doesn't have to be simple (XII isn't all that simple for some), but it has to make sense.

What XIII did wrong is the gameplay wasn't fun. It didn't make sense. Same with XV. A lot of the time, you escape from combat not really feeling like you actually did anything. It's not satisfying. At all.
