Super Metroid - Darkholme Hospital Also you'd better get good at it, because this hack requires you to do it on multiple occasions.
Super Metroid - Darkholme Hospital Actually you can jump over the left robot. You've got to run towards it and in the middle of a jump go to morph ball. It's annoyingly difficult but possible

Paper Mario
04-06-14 09:26 AM
The only bad thing about Paper Mario is that it’s sequel is even better.
While not as successful as some other games on Nintendo 64 such as Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time and Super Mario 64, Paper Mario has later gained something of a cult following and it's easy to see why. The game has really anarchistic andstrange sense of humor that's really needed in games even nowadays, and one of the best leveling-, and battle systems in any RPGs I've played. Let's look at
the game piece by piece to see what makes it so great.

Graphics: 10

The idea to make Mario in paper form might seem rather silly, but it was really smart decision from Nintendo. Early polygons at N64 were rather awkward-looking, so this kind of merging between 2D and 3D makes the world seem seamless even by modern standards. Besides this works to the games advantage as there's quite a lot of visual humor based on the world composed of paper. Overall when it comes to graphics I think creative ideas work better in the long run. Even the most realistic graphics may seem dated in a couple of years, but simple visual styles like those seen in Okami, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Paper Mario remain timeless.

Sound: 9

The sounds in the game are top notch. Most of the tunes will stick in your head, and every song matches it's environment perfectly. The sound effects are also great. When Mario hit’s or jumps on an enemy it leaves a delightful hitting effect (and if that doesn’t suit your tastes there are even badges that change them). Still the sequel Paper Mario: The thousand year door has in my opinion even better music,so I can’t in good conscience give the perfect 10 this game.

Addictiveness: 9

In my opinion this game contains one of the best leveling systems invented. You get a level after gaining 100 star points, at which point you can choose to get either Health points, Flower points or Badge points. The system is easy to grasp yet remain interesting for a long time. There’s multiple different wa... Read the rest of this Review

So much wasted potential
In the early 2000's my friend had this game for his Gameboy color, and I thought it looked awesome. Sadly I never got to play the game longer than for about 15 minutes. Now over 10 years later I thought that I should check out if the game still holds up. Let's begin

Graphics & Sound: I'm not going to gloss over these because it's freaking GBC. Even back in the day I thought that they sucked big time, but heck that's all we had. That said I think this game has rather good color-palette when compared to other games on the system, but that's about it. Sound gets rather irritating after a while so I recommend that you mute the game and listen to something awesome instead.

Addictiveness: This is actually one of the saddest things about this game. It almost completely undermines whole idea of Pokemon. Sure there are Pokemon here and there in the background and the objective is as usual to catch 'em all, but there's actually not much you can do with them. You get to catch the pokemon and later evolve them, but that's pretty much it. There's no difference in how you catch them, or how they act and you don't get to level them up. In the end every single Pokemon could be as well have been replaced by numbers or other objects and not much would be different outside visual appeal. For that reason alone I have to drop the score for a few points. Back in the day just the mere sight of seeing Pikachu would probably have hooked me in, but I guess I've become more cynical later on. Moving on

Story: The game has no story and that's a damn shame. I wouldn't really expect a game called Pokemon Pinball to have a plot comparable to Kingdom hearts, but heck they could have had different stages unlockable after you've beaten gym leaders instead of the roulette. That way there would have been some object to put your mind to. Also some actual Pokemon battles could really have elevated the game.

Depth: I guess we all have a little completionist inside u... Read the rest of this Review
Metroid: Other M
01-17-14 08:05 AM
Perhaps the game I dislike the most.
Last time I wrote a panegyric review about one of my favourite Nintendo games Legend of Zelda: Twilight princess. This time I decided to move to completely opposite direction and criticize a game from my absolute favourite game series: Metroid. Let's begin.

Graphics:

First off I must say that since N64 Nintendo hasn't really put so much effort in graphics as other consoles of their era, and I think that's just fine. Hyper detailed graphics don't really help much if game is awful, and Nintendo has always been able to put fun gameplay above or to the same level as the graphics that deliver it. With that said Other M is graphically mostly fine, but there are some times that they feel a slightly icky. For example characters faces are dangerously close to entering uncanny valley as evidenced by this picture
http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/File:Anthony_Higgs_HD.jpg
Also some of the classic Metroid villains such as Ridley, Phantoon and Mother Brain don't really seem to fit in the enviroment.
Still overall the games graphics are jus as good as they're needed. Not jaw droppingly beautiful nor distractingly awful.

Sound:

I really can't remember any of the other sounds from this game than the main theme, and that was originally from Super Metroid. I don't think they were bad but they most certainly were below the levels of previous Metroid games.

Addictiveness:

Nope, I really don't think I'll play this game again anytime soon. The gameplay seems to have gotten something of a free pass, as most critics have focused on the story, but I think it is definitely a step backwards from previous.
First of all the game is made very linear. I have always praised Metroid games for their aspects of isolation and exploration, but in this game they're practically removed. You're always moving forward to direction that your command officer tells you to. Sure you get to explore the ship in later parts of the game, but it's to... Read the rest of this Review
Legend of Zelda, The: Twilight Princess

Into the twilight
The legend of Zelda is one of the most famous and arguably greatest game series of all time, and Twilight Princess is one of my personal favourite games of all time. While initially successful, the game has afterwards received some backlash for different reasons;mainly because some people think it's this game that first started to formulate the series, but I'm trying to make an honest review of what I thought when I first played through the game. Let's begin.

Graphics:  Twilight Princess contains one of the best graphics that have ever been on Nintendo game in my opinion.  When I first entered the Hyrule fields in the light world I could barely contain my excitement. Everything seemed so rich in detail and organic, that I just wanted to wander round and see what all there is to find. Every enemy and character seems realistic and colorful, without entering the dreaded Uncanny valley. Some people have expressed some complaint about them, especially when compared to the more cartoony graphics of the previous entry in the series: The wind waker, but I really have to disagree. I still can't think of a game that looks as visually pleasing as this one; even when compared to some Hyper-realistic shooters that would later show up on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sound: Legend of Zelda has always been renowned of their sound and music, and Twilight Princess is no exception. Every single dungeon and house has a perfect match in it's music and overall feeling. Still I can't quite give the game full points, mainly because it has so large shoes to fill. While music is aesthetically excellent, it just isn't quite as memorable as that of Ocarina of Time's (which I think has the greatest soundtrack all time alongside Super metroid and FF7) or even Wind wakers.

Addictiveness: It's top notch. I can play this game over and over and it always feels as great. Even after completing the main story I can still collect Pieces of heart, and Poe souls, and even t... Read the rest of this Review
Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories
01-04-14 06:29 PM
The unfortunate middlechild of the series
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of memories stands at a rather unfortunate position between the far superior Kingdom hearts I and II. Even more annoying the story of the game isn't just something hastily made up for the handheld port but it is almost necessary to know to grasp the more complex parts of II (especially the beginning), so you can't really skip this game and head to later games either. Actually the whole series of KH has a problem with hitting plot-critical games for every single available system, but I digress. The real question is of course: is the game actually worth playing. The answer to that is both Yes and No. Let's elaborate.

Graphics: As far as the graphics go they're really amazing, For a GB advance game at least. Animated sequences are well made and don't really pale in comparison in regards of content to others in the series. On the downside sometimes the game starts lagging; especially when there are many enemies on the screen. Anyway the main problems in the game lie completely elsewhere.

Sound: As with graphics, sound is also amazing. Lots of thought process and consideration have obviously been made for this game. I'd even go so far to say that this game is worth playing at least once just because of those factors. Creators of the game really wanted people to like this.  Only complaints I have about music is that they re-used much of the sounds and themes from the original Kingdom Hearts from PS2, and sometimes - especially at Atlantica and Halloween Town - listening to the same jingle over and over can get somewhat grating. On the other hand original music they made to this game is amazing; especially the Organization battle theme.

Addictiveness: This is were things start really crumbling apart. Fighting in the game simply isn't very fun and that's quite a major problem when considering that the game is 90 percent fighting and grinding. It's obvious the makers tried to innovate with card-system, but almost everyone... Read the rest of this Review

How to beat the secret bosses in Kingdom Hearts
The boss:

Ice titan is - obviously - a gigantic titan made entirely out of ice. His first appearance was in Hercules, and he is arguably the second most difficult boss in the game. His hits aren't as lethal as the heartless bosses, but are much harder to avoid and stack quickly. That's why you should have quite a lot of levels under your belt. Luckily grinding this battle over and over again is one of the best ways to gain exp. Since every time you damage him you gain 24 exp points (possibly up to 120 in the final mix).

Getting to the battle:

After you've beaten Hades cup a mysterious battle labeled ??? Appears. Choosing the battle brings you to battle with Ice titan. After you've beaten or lost to him the battle is labeled Gold match

Preparations:

If you're high leveled and competent enough you may just stick with whatever equipment you have. If you're not so certain about your skills, though you should include as much ice-nullifying equipment (Blizza/rd/ra/gun ring, Ray of light, Shiva belt etc.). Every single one of Ice titans attack is ranged and ice-based so that should decrease your damage by at least 60 %. You may also want to stack up on elixirs or if you're lacking them ethers. For your abilities include at least glide (or fast-glide if you've got that), dodge roll AND ESPECIALLY GUARD. Without the last one you won't be able to damage the titan at all. For you quick-magic put at least cure. If you use aero Ice titan will use stronger attacks that can't be deflected so don't cast that at any point. (also put on your second chance and leaf bracer if you're playing Final mix)

The battle:

I'd be tempted to just say that guard everything and leave it at that, but I'll try to be more professional.

FIRST PHASE:

At the beginning of the battle Ice titan only has few attacks at his disposal. His main attack is summoning a bunch of flying ice-dart... Read the rest of this Guide

How to beat the secret bosses in Kingdom Hearts
The Boss:
Kurt Zisa is the other secret Heartless boss in Kingdom Hearts, and he is found in Agrabah. Overall he is quite difficult, but doesn't hold a candle to Sephiroth. He looks like a six handed Arab warrior, with a snake-head, holding two scimitars. His weak spot is the jewel in the snake's mouth

Getting to the battle:
After sealing the final keyhole enter Aladdin's house in Agrabah and talk to the magic carpet. He will fly you to the battle when you say Yes.

Preparations:
Your preparations should be much like with Phantom. Have at least scan, guard, dodge roll, second chance and leaf bracer included. Don't be stingy with elixirs and megalixirs. There's not many points where you need them after this battle, and if you die in battle you get them back. Include at least cure and aero in quick select

The battle:
The fight with Kurt Zisa contains 3 stages. These are
1) The physical fight: Kurt zisa uses and takes damage from Physical attacks. Magic is locked
2) Dealing damage: Kurt zisa is down and vulnerable to attack
3) The magic fight: Kurt zisa attacks and takes damage solely from magic.

The battle always begins with physical attacks. To get the heartless down you have to break the two orbs in it's hands. Kurt zisa mainly uses three moves. When he's really far away from you, he'll jump near to you. If his moderately far away he tries to close the distance with a damaging lunge. Use guard to prevent it from hitting you. When he is close he will use a wild spinning attack with his scimitars. Just get away from it with dodge roll and it will hit a maximum of one time. You may also try to guard it. That's slightly trickier but gives you a fast chance to retaliate. Overall this stage shouldn't be too difficult. Although he's hits deal a tremendous amount of damage they're quite slow so you should be able to heal yourself.

Once he's down there's not much more to do than keep on hitting him... Read the rest of this Guide

How to beat the secret bosses in Kingdom Hearts
I've just recently played through Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD remix and decided to write this little guide on how to beat the secret bosses. This guide is mostly based on my own experience and slightly to how I've seen other people fight them.

PHANTOM

With that said let's start on the first boss; Phantom. Phantom may seem difficult at first, but once you've gotten the hang of it, it is actually easier than any other secret boss on the serie I've fought so far.
Phantom looks like an empty black robe with an Heartless emblem in the back. Within the robe is a colour-changing heart, that is it's weak spot. In the final mix the robe is white with black sleeves.

How to get to the battle:

After you've closed the Final keyhole in Hollow Bastion, go to Neverland and enter the room with Tinker bell in it with Peter Pan in your Party (you won't understand what she's saying without him). Once spoken Peter Pan will ask if you want to go to the Clock Tower. By choosing yes, you enter the battle.

Preparations for battle:

Although you don't have to be very high leveled to beat Phantom (when compared to other bosses) it's a good idea to get yourself some Hp and Defense since his hits sting quite a bit.
* For all you items choose elixirs and megalixirs.
* Include Goofy in your Party with MP gift-ability equipped to him
* Have at least the following abilities on: Scan, Last stand, Leaf bracer, Second chance
* For quick select magic choose: Stop, Fire, Cure

The Battle:

The battle with Phantom is mostly magic-based. Nearly all the damage that you deal to him is made with spells (which is why you should have the elixirs). Phantom has three attacks:
Claw: A physical attack he does when he's closing on you
Dark Fireball: Shooting at you with a homing fireball
Doom: Casting a timed spell that kills the target instantly and permanently after the timer runs out. This is the move you ha... Read the rest of this Guide
