GenesisJunkie's Last 10 Game Comments (view last 100)
Tearaway Tearaway is the perfect Vita game. It uses all the features of the Vita better than any other I have played on the system. Must own!
Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm Only played this for a minute but it seems really neat.
Pokemon - Mirage of Tales (beta 2.1) Pretty neat hack
Konami Krazy Racers Much better than the Mario Kart game on the same system.
Wolfenstein 3D Awesome game! If you own a Jaguar this is a must have.
Venture Great game!
Ax Battler - A Legend of Golden Axe Not too bad. It looks somewhat like a Zelda 2 clone. If you like that game then you will enjoy this.
Vampire - Master of Darkness Love this game! I play the SMS version more through.
GG Aleste Pretty good game. Very much worth the Viz to play it.
UFO Wars Not the best graphics for an Atari 2600 game but still really fun.

Alien Invaders-Plus!
02-20-14 08:04 AM
Alien Invaders-Plus!
(Overall) Alien Invaders-Plus! was the first game that I got for the Magnavox Odyssey 2. Now, just from the name you should be able to guess what this is a clone of. That's right! A Space Invaders clone. I love Space Invaders, when I seen this game I just had to have it. My thought was "how could they mess up Space Invaders? It will probably be the exact same game just with a few little graphics changes." Well, it kinda is the same game (almost) with a few little graphics changes, but I have learned, you can mess up Space Invaders, you can mess it up pretty bad, but before we get to that I will give you a little history of Alien Invaders-Plus!.

Alien Invaders-Plus! was released for the Magnavox Odyssey 2 in 1980 (NA). Magnavox has almost no third party support, most, if not all of the games for the console were made by a few people. there are alot of clones one this console (just like the rest of the consoles of the time), and alot of really good clones at that. This is not one of the good clones.

"A fiendish new dimension comes to one of the most popular arcade games of all time!" (quote from the box). Yeah, this game is fiendish alright. Speaking of the box, what is with the four headed snake shooting lazers, I am almost positive that is not in the game, if it was it might have made this game a little better!

Alien Invaders-Plus! gets a 4.5 overall, lets dive in deeper and find out why!

Overview- Space Invaders clone, misleading box art, a big fat let down!

(Graphics) I think we all know what Space Invader looks like, and that will give you some what of an idea of what this game looks like. Really Alien Invaders-Plus! looks like a kids version or a dumbed down version of the arcade classic.

The first row consists of big green balls, you can not kill the balls, they are just a shield to keep you from killing the alien invaders. The balls seem to be in the way every time y... Read the rest of this Review
Food Fight

Food Fight!!!!!!!! (Atari 7800)
(Overall) Food Fight was originally an arcade game released in 1983 and was ported to the Atari 7800 in 1986. You are a guy named Charley Chuck and all he wants to do is eat his ice cream! What is in the way of Charley and his scrumptious ice cram cone? In your way is some chefs, I bet they want him to eat healthy but hes not going to let them bring down his good times.

You are in a room with four chefs, a load of food on the floor, and your ice cream on the left side of the screen. If the chefs touch you, you will lose a life. You can hit the chefs with food (sure you could have guessed that from the name of the game!). Some of the food that will be flung are bananas, watermelons, pies, peas (that look more like oatmeal), and tomatoes. I have to say it is a blast throwing food in the face of your enemies. You can also fall into holes. The dark holes is where new chefs will come out when one is killed by taking a face full of food. You will be able to tell which ones you can step on and which you can't.

The controls in Food Fight are very smooth. I have played alot of games for the Atari 7800 that feel clunky and almost unplayable. The response time is perfect, what I mean by that is when you press down you go down as soon as you hit the button, you may wonder why I am even saying that but like I said before I have play very many games that have bad controls for this console.

The gameplay is fun and fresh. Who doesn't love food fights? Food Fight gets an 8 for Overall.

overview- Fun gamplay and good controls.

(Graphics) The graphics are pretty good for the Atari 7800. The Atari 7800 was made to compete with the Sega Master System and Nes but as anyone who is familiar with this console knows that the graphics just don't stack up. To set everyone straight I am not and will not compare this game to games on other consoles for this review, just other games for the system it was ported to.

Shark! Shark!

Shark! Shark!
(Overall) Shark! Shark! was released in 1982 for the Intellivision and is one of the very few original games made for the console. A good majority of the games made, not just for the Intv but for all consoles of the time are just rip offs of other console games or arcade classics. Intv had very low expectations for this game, they put it out thinking it would be a fun game for the young kids. To their surprise Shark! Shark! became one of their best sellers and debatable the best game for the console.

I hope you are in the mood for sea food, and you better not save room for dessert! In this game you are a very tiny fish in a big fish's wold. You have to eat the fish that are smaller then you to grow and try not to get ate by the big fish. The biggest baddest fish in this pond is the shark. He is big, black, and very, oh so very hungry! So eat up and try to keep your tail fin out of the mouth of a large ugly fish that wants nothing more then to have you over for diner.

Shark! Shark! has been ported to consoles like the XBox 360, PS3, and a ton of Plug 'N' Plays. This game has seen more Flash game clones then any other. Anyone that plays alot of Flash games is sure to run into a clone of Shark! Shark!.

I give Shark! Shark! an overall of 8, but we will talk about that more at the end.

(Graphics) The graphics are very good in Shark! Shark!. There are quite a few different different colors in this game.

The background is water (of course, what else would you want it to be?), there is a sea floor with some plant life and bubbles that come up from the ground every little bit. everything looks very crisp and colorful.

What color are some of the fish? You are yellow, there are blue, yellow, pinkish (maybe red), brownish and the shark is black.

You can tell what most of the fish are, which seems to be a rare thing when talking about games from this time. Ther... Read the rest of this Review
New Super Mario Bros

The New Super Mario Bros
(Overall) We are going to be talking about the New Super Mario Bros. This is a released on the Nintendo DS in 2006. The New Super Mario Bros has the feel of some of the classic Mario games.

The map really reminds me of Super Mario Bros 3 and some of the levels remind me of Super Mario Bros (the first one).
The main reason I really enjoyed this game is because of the fact that it was made in the same style as the best Mario games ever made.It is side-scrolling platforming at its best for the DS.

There are some cool new power ups in the New Super Mario Bros. There is a giant mushroom, it makes you grow huge and smash any thing in your path! It is pretty much the regular mushroom just on steroids (and with out all the nasty side effects!). There is also a blue shell. What does the blue shell do? It basically turns you into a blue Koopa Troopa with Mario's head poking out. You can duck down into your shell and enemies can hurt you.

The controls are pretty simple in the game. You will only need to use two face buttons, one to run or use fire ball (if you have fire flower power up), and one to jump. You can also do a Ninja Gaiden style wall jump in this game!

You can play as Luigi in the New Super Mario Bros. I don't think it changes the story or game play at all.

New Super Mario Bros has some new enemies and the old enemies that you know and "love". Some enemies you may see in this game are  Amp, Ball 'n' Chain, Balloon Boo, Bob-omb, Koopa Troopa, Fire Chomp, Super Dry Bones, and many, many more.

There are some mini games in New Super Mario Bros, some that include Action- Snowball Slalom, Run, Bob-omb! Run!. Puzzle- Wanted!, Hide and Boo seek, and Loves me.....?. Table- Speed, Memory match, and Picture poker. 1 on 1- Jumping Brothers, Bob-omb sudden death, and Vs. Pair-a-gone. There are many more mini games to be played!

You can collect big gold star coins in levels (three per level... Read the rest of this Review
Lock \'N\' Chase

Lock 'n' Chase Intv
(Overall) Lock 'n' Chase was originally an arcade game made by Data East, it was later ported over to the Atari 2600 and Intellivision in 1982. After that it has been ported to the Game Boy, Wii, Playstation Network, and on the 3DS Virtual Console. We are only going to be talking about the Intv version in this review.

Lock 'n' Chase is yet another Pac-Man clone, a very early one at that. Data East is a very well know company, they have made plenty of great arcades and games for some of the best home consoles ever made. Out of all the Pac-Man clones I have played, and I have played a lot, this is on my top five.

In this game you are a thief and you are trying to get all the coins (pellets) and other treasures you can get your hands on before those billy club swinging cops get their hands on you. You are in a maze that is somewhat like the ones you will find in Pac-Man. The cops are on the side of the wall, two on one side, two on the other, unlike in Pac-Man where all your enemies are in the center.

Really if you have played Pac-Man then you should be able to pick up this game and play it without to much trouble. There are only a handful of things that differ. One thing you can do in Lock 'n' Chase is make a red line that blocks off the cop/s. If you get the hang of using the red line then you can corner in a cop or mutable cops and have a much easier time getting those shinny coins. The red lines do go away after a a minute or two.

What is with all these guys making clones of Pac-Man that are thief's? I have seen quite a few clones that make Pac-Man a thief, how did they go from a yellow circle that likes to eat to a thief that shoots lasers? I think it went something like this, "Ok, ummmm Pac-Man. Eats, eats, beats, ummm thief's. That's it!" Yea, I don't know if that's how it really happened but we can imagine.

Ok lets get back on track! After you snatch up all those coins and pretty valuables you will ... Read the rest of this Review
Bank Heist
09-13-13 09:58 PM
Bank Heist Atari 2600
(Overall) Bank Heist was released in 1983 and developed by 20th Century Fox. Now before we really get started I would like you to play this game, just for a minute. Did you play it? Can you guess what game I am thinking of? That's right, another Pac-Man clone! I like to call this clone Pac-Man Pac'in heat.

In Bank Heist you are a bank robber and you have to try and rob as many banks as possible before the law catches you. You ain't gonna catch me ya dirty stinkin coppers! There are three banks per screen, every time you hit a bank a cop car will appear in its place seconds later. The cop cars seem to follow a similar pattern of the ghosts in the game it mimics.

Are the cops right on your tail? Need to get ride of 'em? Drop a stick of dynamite, that should get them off your back! That is one of the things I really like about this game, I wish Pac-Man had dynamite, think about how cool it would be to blow up those dang ghosts! You win this round Bank Heist.

You also have a gas meter. If you run out of fuel you lose a life, which is represented by get away cars. You lose gas by dropping dynamite and over time, you get some back by getting to the next screen. At first I really didn't like the idea of a gas meter but it has really grown on me, it gives the game and extra little bit of difficulty.

The mazes in Bank Heist are some what like the mazes in Pac-Man. Really at one look you can tell what game it looks like but its not so similar that it feels like you are playing the same game. I give the Overall a 6.5, we will go into that a little more at the end. On that note lets get moving on to graphics before the cops catch up to us!

(Graphics) The mazes may be like the ones in Pac-Man but that's where the similarities end when it comes to graphics. You are a car and your enemies are cars. The graphics of the cars look pretty dang nice, I have nothing to complain about on that.

Super Punk Bros 3
09-06-13 10:42 PM
Never mind Nintendo, here's the Super Punk Bros!
(Overall) I chose to do this review Just because of the fact that it is based around my culture, so lets take a look at it through the eyes of a Punk .Never mind Nintendo, here's the Super Punk Bros! We are going to be talking about the hack Super Punk Bros. This is a hack of the classic Nintendo game Super Mario Bros 3. Super Mario Bros 3 was released in the US in 1990 and was one of the biggest hits on the NES. Super Punk Bros is a graphical hack of this game, the level design wasn't changed at all, the map was also pretty much untouched. In this game Mario has the Punk Rock attitude of Sid Vicious and a spiky new hair cut. I think the person who hacked this game used my hair cut for Mario! The person doing the hack seems to only know the stereotypical Punk Rock symbolism, and trust me, they used them over and over through out the game, but we will talk more about that in Graphics. In Super Punk Bros you still play the same way as you did in the original so it leaves a little to be desired, the novelty of a Punk Mario is the only thing that makes me want to play this game at all. I give the Overall an 8.8 and that is just because Super Mario Bros 3 was the best game on the system to start with, not because the hackers did an awesome job.

(Graphics) Graphics is really the only thing changed in this game, so what has changed? Mario is now a Punk with a red mohawk (the same with Luigi except his is green). The blocks have been changed to TVs. It does feel pretty good to smash all those TVs! The Goombas are pretty much a TV with feet, and most of your enemies now are Nazis. What do the power ups look like? Well in lieu of flowers, mushrooms, and feathers you now need Anarchys, beer bottles, and anti Nazi symbols to get big and strong. I can't really tell what the  Piranha Plants are, I think they are supposed to be cops, but your guess is better then mine. A lot more could have been change... Read the rest of this Review
Yu-Gi-Oh! - Worldwide Edition - Stairway to the Destined Duel
09-03-13 11:36 PM
Its time to da da da da DUEL!
We are going to be talking about Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide edition Stairway to the Destined, but before we get to the review I am going to go over the rules (this will be the rules for this game NOT the current Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game rules). This will be just for people who are not familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh, so if you already know the rules or have any experience with the game you can skip over this part.

(Building your deck) A Yu-Gi-Oh dueling deck has a min of 40 cards and a max of 60 cards. You will need Monster, Magic, and Trap cards in you dueling deck (We will go over those cards later on). You should take time building your deck. Look at the cards and try to find cards that work better together. If you just throw random cards into you deck you will not have a good chance of winning in a duel.

(Life Points/How to Win or Lose) You and the person you are dueling will start out with 8000 life points. The persons Life Points that drop to 0 loses. You can also lose by running out of cards, so if you cant draw you lose. How do you lose Life Points or make your enemy lose Life Points? You can attack your enemies Monsters that are in atk position or there Life Points directly. Some Magic and Trap cards also have the affect of inflicting damage to your enemy. You can protect your Life Points by placing your Monster cards in def position.

(Start of the Duel) When the duel starts you will flip a coin to see who starts first. If you go first you can not attack. You will draw 5 cards into ?your hand then another 1 card every turn. Ok now lets talk about your turn. Each turn has 6 phases. Phase 1 is called the Draw phase and it is ?where you draw a card. Phase 2 is called the Standby phase, some cards effects only work on this phase. Phase 3 is your Main Phase 1, you will set your Magic, Traps, and Monsters during this phase. Phase 4 is known as the Battle Phase, You... Read the rest of this Review
Shark Attack
09-02-13 01:48 PM
Shark Attack! Atari 2600
(Overall) Today we are going to be talking about Shark Attack for the Atari 2600. Shark Attack was originally named Lochjaw but changed to Shark Attack for legal reasons. Shark Attack was made by Apollo and released in 1981 for the Atari 2600. Apollo was a third-party developer for Atari and are known for such titles as Final Approach, Space Cavern, Skeet Shoot, and Wabbit. Now if you have ever played this game before I am pretty sure you know what game this looks like. Take a good look, you are in a maze and you have to get pellets (diamonds). The only thing this game is missing is Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Yea that's right, its another Pac-Man clone! In lieu of ghosts you have a giant man eating shark after you. The shark seems to have a random pattern of when and where it comes out. The point of the game is to collect all the diamonds that look just like the pellets from Pac-Man and bring them to the center of the maze to drop them off in a box or chest, but that is easier said then done. The very hungry shark has his eyes set on you and a crazy tentacle blob (octopus?) wants to drag you down! The octopus seems to come at random every so often and I can never get away from it. You might as well sit still and hold on because its gonna get you and there is not a thing in the world that will stop it.

(Graphics) Shark Attack has pretty standard graphics for a game from this time. The maze you are in is made of kelp so at least they used green for it. The shark is an appropriate grayish color. The most eye pleasing things on the screen is in the background, on top of the water. The boat and the sky look very nice but you really don't do much looking at them because you should be focusing on the maze. They should have spent more time on making the maze look a little better and less on the background, but they did the best they could probably do for the time. The graphics are better then some but not as ... Read the rest of this Review
Mouse Trap
07-07-13 05:35 PM
Mouse Trap Atari 2600
(Overall) Mouse Trap was originally an arcade game released in 1981. It was ported to the three most popular consoles of the time, the Atari 2600, ColecoVision, and Intellivision but we are only going to talk about the Atari 2600 version. Ok go take a look at this game and you tell me what game comes to mind, I will wait. Did you look? I beat you can guess that this is a Pac-Man clone. With Pac-Man's huge popularity quite a few other companies wanted to make a game like it and get a little bit of the money that was being pumped into the Pac-Man arcade and spend on the carts for home consoles. Out of all the Pac-Man clones I have played this is the best one, and I have played a lot of Pac-Man clones! Let me tell you how the game differs from Pac-Man. You are a mouse and instead of ghosts you will have to avoid some pretty nasty cats. In mouse Trap your "Power Pellet" or power up is a dog bone which is in all four corners of the maze. You can activate the dog bone power up by hitting the fire button, when you do so you are transformed into a bull dog head. When you are the dog you can eat cats. You can also shift around the layout of the maze by getting up against the off color parts of the wall. You will need to do this to block off cats or get to pellets that are blocked . You get one point for every pellet, ten points for every cat, and one hundred points for every stage cleared. The way this game looks really reminds me of the cartoon TV show Tom and Jerry. Lets move on to graphics!

(Graphics) This is a pretty good port. The graphics are not as good as the original arcade but its Atari so you can't really expect them to be. The graphics are slightly better then some games for the console but not the best I have seen.Everything but the dog bones look like what they represent. I had no clue what the dog bones were intill I looked it up. They look more like a big X but having strange look... Read the rest of this Review
Pong
07-06-13 08:20 PM
Pong Intv
(Overall) Pong was one of the very first arcade video games and one of the first video games to become widely popular. This game has probably been released on more home consoles then any other game. Pong even had tons of home consoles made just to play it, now known as Pong consoles. Ok lets talk about the game at hand. Pong for the Intellivision. With its insane popularity and the fact that the Atari 2600 had it Intellivision had to have one too! Each version is pretty much the same, there is only so much you can really do with a game like Pong. Even to this day Pong is still as well know as it was the day the first quarter was put into the arcade. Pong can be seen on many TV shows and video games to this day. Pong was even in the hit TV show King of the Hill! Lets get to the fun part, the graphics.

(Graphics) What can I say about the graphics in Pong. Well I can sum it up in one six words. Two lines and a square ball. In this version of Pong the back ground is a pinkish red color. Pong has the bare minimum when it comes to graphics but I think that really gives it a lot of its charm. At the end of the day does a good game really need more then two lines and a square ball?

(Sound) The sound is really the same you would hear from any other Intv game or any game from that era for that matter, all except nothing blows up. Every game from this time has to have explosions. Don't worry the square ball wont blow up if you lose. You really just have one sound.

(Addictiveness) This is what Pong does best. You have to keep playing! To be such a extremely simple game it is very fun.

(Story) Ok here is the story. You are a magical unicorn and you have to stop the space ball from.........yea there is no story. Sorry for tricking you. Do you really need a story. You are a stick and you have to not let the ball get by you. Most games f... Read the rest of this Review
Seaquest
07-05-13 05:55 PM
Seaquest Atari 2600
(Overall) Seaquest was a game made by Activision in 1983 for the Atari 2600.  Activision is known for such titles as Pitfall!, Kaboom!, and Stampede. How does Seaquest stand out from the other games on the Atari 2600 and why should you care? Well you are in control of a submarine. You have to save swimming people to get points. Some of the enemies you will see are fish, sharks and other subs. You can ether avoid your enemies or shoot em down with your harpoon/laser (can't really tell). Don't forget to go to the top for some air! That's right you have an air meter and have to get a breath every now and then. I find having to keep getting air gives the game a little bit more difficulty but in the best way. Lets move on to the graphics!

(Graphics) Seaquest is made by Activision so you can probably guess that the graphics will be at least pretty good. The graphics are not just pretty good they are very good. I wouldn't go as far to say they are the best on the console because they are not but they don't have to be do they? You only get one background from what I can tell. It is very colorful though. Pretty nice to look at.

(Sound) The sound in this game is really nothing special. It sounds the same as any other Atari 2600, Intellivision, or Colecovision game you might play. Sound isn't everything though.

(Addictiveness) This is what Seaquest does best. It is hard for me to put this game down!. Like most games from this time the goal is to get the high score, so you will never be able to beat it. If you like games like this you could probably play it for hours and never get board with it. Challenge your friends or beat your high score, whats better?

(Story) Yea sorry no story. Does it really need a story? You are just in a submarine and you have to save people and blow up fish do you need anything else?

(Depth) Seaquest is all about the high score. You can't reall... Read the rest of this Review
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
07-04-13 09:51 PM
E.T. The most hated game of all time
(Overall) E.T. The Extra Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 is most likely the most hated and ranted about game of all time! Lets talk about it a little. This is a 1982 adventure game made for the Atari 2600. This game was rushed out in time for Christmas and from what I have heard they put out more copies of this game then there were Atari 2600s to play them! Atari was really hoping this game would be there biggest seller but that's not the way it happened. E.T. was a complete and total flop and one of the big reasons for the great video game crash. So many people returned this game that Atari had to bury them in a landfill in New Mexico. To this day collectors, casual gamers, and reviews are still ranting and raving about this game. The Angry Video Game Nerd even has a movie coming out about this game, but is it really as bad as everyone is saying?

(Graphics) There are quite a few different screens in this game for an Atari 2600 game. The main thing you will see in E.T, is a green field with dark green oval shapes which are holes in the ground. The E.T. and boy sprites look pretty good and the telephone parts look like any other unrecognisable Atari 2600 thing. Really the graphics are better then some not as good as others and probably the best thing about this game!

(Sound) This is really just your average Atari 2600 game when it come to sound. I really don't have anything to say about this other then beep boop and that is all you will hear.

(Addictiveness) Well lets talk about the game a little more. You run from a guy in black. If he touches you, you will lose all the telephone parts that you have! You will be put in some kind of jail or science lab I guess. Now how do you get the telephone parts? You fall into holes. Some holes will have em some wont. Now getting out of the holes is the "fun" part. It is a total pain in the butt to get out of the holes. You... Read the rest of this Review
Tekken 3

Tekken 3 Psx
(Overall) Tekken 3 was released in the arcades in 1997 then ported to the PlayStation the next year. The arcade version has been re released in Tekken 5's arcade history mode. Lets talk about the Psx version. If you asked me to sum up in two words my late elementary school to late middle school years all I can say is Tekken 3! That game is one of my best childhood memories. My best friend had it and we would play it for hours on end. Tekken 3 is debatably one of greatest tournament fighters ever made. Fast and exiting play is something to expect when you pop in that disk. The downfall of most tournament fighters is the crazy button combinations to do special moves and combos. With this game there combos and specials that only take a few buttons to do. If you like to memorize ton's of buttons don't worry there are also combos that requires a large about of buttons. Tekken 3 improves on a lot of the problems found in the first two. To name one issue that was fixed, in Tekken 1 and 2 you jump like 20 feet in the air when you jump. You could leap over a house! This is fixed in 3. You still jump high but not stupidly high. Lets get on to the graphics!
(Graphics) Lets start with Tekken 1 (Psx). It looks a lot like Virtua Fighter for the Sega 32x, Very blocky and not the best to look at. Ok, now Tekken 2 (Psx). It looks a little better but still not perfect. Tekken 3. The graphics are just jaw dropping. It is such an improvement over its predecessors. There are certain characters with costume changes or different looks. Tekken 3 has a wide variety of stages with different looks and feels. The graphics are just plan awesome and very nice to look at!
(Sound) The music is pretty good. I like most of the sound tracks from the Tekken 3. It has an original sound and is decently catchy. Turn it up and rock out friends!
(Addictiveness) With so many unlockable characters and content you could play this game for hours and hours. I can come ... Read the rest of this Review

Deep Duck Trouble staring Donald Duck
(Overall) Deep Duck Trouble was a Disney licensed game make by Sega for the Sega Game Gear and Master System and was released in 1993. Deep Duck Trouble is a platformer and a very good one at that. You can kill your enemies by jumping on there head or by kicking a block at them. In some blocks you will find things to heal you or things to raise your score. Items that heal you include ice cream cones one point and turkey full heal. This game has a map screen similar to the one in Quackshot, another great Donald Duck game. You can pick which level you want to play, so you can skip all around the map or go in order. Each level has a unique theme and design. The first level is the jungle. In this level you will encounter enemies such as rats, bugs that roll at you, strange dog heads that come out of holes in the ground, ostriches, snails, and snakes. The first level boss is a gorilla that swings from vine to vine dropping acorns at you. Level two is an underwater level. Most underwater levels are a pain in the neck, but this one is pretty enjoyable. Some of the enemies you will see are different kinds of fish, urchins, and clams. The second level boss is a shark. Level three is a volcano. Some enemies you will see are bats, jumping bugs, and moles that throw rocks. This level doesn't really have a boss, you have to keep climbing up while the lava rises. Level four is called  the valley. Some enemies you will see in this level are bees, and goats. After you beat the first scene of level four you are sent to an ice cavern. Some enemies you will encounter in the ice cavern are yetis, and narwhals that you use to get across the cold water. The boss for this level is a giant flamingo. Level five is called the shrine. There are not a lot of enemies in this level. Most of the things you will have to deal with are spikes. So many spikes! Some enemies in this level are ghosts, fire spiting heads, and spear wielding sta... Read the rest of this Review
Master of Darkness

Master of Darkness
(Overall) Master of Darkness was released on the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear and was developed my SIMS. This is a platformer with a very strong Castlevania feel. Instead of a whip like in Castlevania you start out with a small dagger. You can upgrade your weapon and get projectile weapons by hitting a creepy white mask. Some of the main weapons include dagger, walking stick (I think), sword, and battle axe. The projectile weapons include things like guns and boomerangs. If you have a weapon you like be careful not to accidentally walk into a downgrade weapon from the mask, which will happen a lot if you are not careful. There are also I nice variety of enemies you will encounter on your quest.

(Graphics) The graphics are just awesome in this game. It looks a lot like Castlevania but much better. It has a very creepy look and atmosphere through out the game making it the perfect game to play on a dark stormy night or on Halloween. Every thing looks the way it should. There is not a lot of bright colors but that's a good thing in a creepy game. Over all some of the best looking graphics on an 8 bit system.

(Sound) The music is oh so creepy. The music is not as memorable as some of the tracks off of Castlevania. The music helps give the game that creepy atmosphere, so turn it up and have a clean pair of underwear handy for this terrifying cult classic.

(Addictiveness) This is a game I can play over and over. I do not own a copy of this game, so I play it pretty often on Vizzed. Any Castlevania fan will like this game and find them self playing it pretty often. It has tight controls, great graphics, good sound, and is just plan and simple a terrific game so the replay value is very high.

(Story) Master of Darkness has a pretty strong story. You get bits of the story after completing levels. Really what it is about is Dracula is committing murders that is contributed to the infamous Jack the Ripper. If you like a game wi... Read the rest of this Review
Hang-On & Safari Hunt

Hang on and Safari Hunt

Hang on and Safari Hunt was the U.S. lauch title for the Sega Master System in June 1986. Hang on and Safari Hunt is a compilation cart which means that it has mutable games on one cart, in this case it is two games.

Hang On (Overall) Hang On was originally an arcade game realest by Sega in 1985. The arcade version was the first arcade game to use 16 bit graphics. Hang On has been ported to several different video game consoles and home computers. This is a very good game to introduce yourself to the Sega Master System and can stand toe to toe with any racing game on the more popular Nintendo Entertainment System. In this game you have to shift gears to speed up or slow down. (Graphics) This game has beautiful 8 bit graphics! Take a look at Rad Racer on the NES and Hang On and you will see what I mean. Each check point looks different staring with the first part, which is just a very generic green grass and black and white road, when you get to the second check point the grass starts turning into a desert, after you get past the desert you find yourself in the big city at night, which is like eye candy, after that is the last stretch of the game, another desert, but it looks very different from the previous desert. Over all the graphics are just plan awesome and very nice to look at.(Sound) When you are on the sta... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic Chaos

Sonic Chaos
(Overall) Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos was released in 1993 for the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear. This game has been rereleased several times over the years on consoles like the Nintendo Gamecube, Playstation, and Xbox. In Sonic Chaos you have they choice to play as Sonic or Tails. Sonic is faster than Tails and can use the spin dash attack and can do the super peel-out which first appeared in the game Sonic CD for the Mega/Sega CD. Tails is slower than Sonic but can fly by pressing up and hitting hitting button 1. This is one of the few games that when playing as Tails you can fly. The other difference between playing as Sonic and Tails is that when playing as Sonic you must collect Chaos emeralds to win the game. Tails cant get the Chaos emeralds so it makes the game much easier when playing as Tails. To get the Chaos emeralds when playing as Sonic you must collect 100 rings to get to the special stages. Each special stage is different unlike in most of the Sonic the Hedgehog games. When you run out of time or get the Chaos emerald in the special stage you are sent to the next act.

(Graphics) Remember that this game is for the 8 bit Sega Master System not the 16 bit Sega Genesis! For 8 bit the graphics are stunning. The Sega Master System was know for having impressive graphics and Sonic Chaos is no exception. The backgrounds are colorful and nice to look at. Take the graphics of Super Mario 3 on the Nintendo Entertainment System and Sonic Chaos and compare them and you will see how incredible the graphics really are.

(Sound) The music is one of my favorite things about this game! It is crisp and funky fresh sounding.  This is one of those games you turn the volume up to max on your TV or computer. It doest sound as good as its 16 bit Genesis counter parts but like I have said it is on an 8 bit console. The sound effects are also really good. Sonic Chaos has a nice var... Toxic Crusaders

Toxic Crusaders Sega Genesis
(Overall) Toxic Crusaders is a side scrolling beat 'em up released in 1992 and based on the American cartoon of the same name.  You are a bad to the bone mutant custodian with the most killer mop you have ever seen! Your side kick is what I can only describe as annoying orange with sharp teeth. You have multiple attacks like swinging your mob, spinning, and waking your side kick like a golf ball. On the first level you start out riding a skate bored that fires red laser's, but watch out for cars! You will face a variety of enemies including orange and blue guys with guns, bees, helicopters, and strange green mutant rodents to name a few. This is your basic beat 'em up but with some elements of a platformer.

(Graphics) This game has pretty good graphics. The colors are vivid and the things in the game really look like what they are supposed to. The back grounds is what kills the graphics! In the first act you are on the street for most of the level and probably has the best back ground in the entire game. Act 2 has a dull blue back ground that just don't have any eye appeal. Act 3 yet again has a dull back ground, but this time its a nasty brown orange color. I think they were going for an air pollution look, if so they hit the nail right on the head. Act 4 has the level from act 3 as its back ground.  The graphics in Toxic Crusaders reminds me of Haunting Starring Polterguy and B.O.B made by electronic arts. Overall the game has good graphics but just needs better back grounds.

(Sound) The music on the opening title screens and start screen has a Toe Jam and Earl funky beat about it, and is really catchy. On act 1 you can't even hear the music over the sound of your lazier firing skate bored, so I couldn't tell you if its good or not. The sound effects or pretty decent but sometimes over powers the music. The music is nothing special but its not one ... Read the rest of this Review
Sewer Shark

Sewer Shark
Sewer Shark was a first person shooter developed by Digital Pictures and published by Sony Imagesoft. Sewer Shark is a full-motion video game (fmv), Sega CD had a lot of fmv games and Sewer Shark is probably the best of the fmv on the system. This is probably the most common and easy to find game on the Sega CD and was bundled with the later CD units. When this game was first released it saw great reviews and was on Associated Presses top ten list, but after the excitement of a home console playing full-montion video wore off the popularity of this game went down hill.

Sewer Shark like other fmv games on the system have grainy video quality with the picture not stretched out enough to fill up the screen. The sound is pretty good but sometimes hard to hear what the actor's are saying. As fmv games go Sewer Shark is probably one of the best on the Sega CD and is a must play for a Sega nut. When flying through the sewers the main enemies you will encounter are giant rats and bats. The game feels realistic if you can get over the slightly grainy quality. The cut scenes are funny when trying to be serious and cheesy when trying to be funny.

Sewer Shark takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where environmental destruction has forced most of humanity to live underground. You are a Sewer jockey trying to clean out the pipes of all the vermin, to help you through the sewer you are given a small robot named Catfish that scouts ahead and gives you directions. You better listen to Catfishes directions carefully because if you make a wrong turn you will most likely die. What makes this game hard is you have a limited amount of energy, when you run out you crash.

This game is not as bad as most people will tell you. I personally love it and pop it in the ol Sega CD from time to time. So if you are looking for something different or just plan cheesy this is the game... Read the rest of this Review
Toki

Toki Atari Lynx
Toki is a shoot em up published in North America by Fabtek. Toki was a popular game ported to several home consoles including the Atari Lynx, Nintendo Entertainment System, and Sega Genesis. Some verisons include health bars and other improvement's. The Genesis version called Toki going ape spit doesn't have the football helmet power up, but it does have improved graphics and more levels, and is my personal favorite of the Toki games. The Toki games are know for there silly, tongue in cheek humor and fun game play.

We are going to focus on the Atari Lynx version Toki. You are a tribal man that is turned into an ape by an evil wizard. The story in the Lynx version isn't as apparent as the Genesis version. The game is pretty difficult because you die with one hit. You will have to be able to dodge one enemies projectiles while killing another enemy, and trying not to fall of a platform. Your attack is very humorous, it is know by gamers as monkey skip, or monkey vomit. Your attack is a projectile that you shoot out of your mouth. You can get upgrades for your attack like multiple projectiles, and fire balls, you can also get upgrades like a football helmet and shoes to help you jump, but you better use your power ups while you have them because they have a time limit, and when it runs out its gone.

The graphics are very good for a hand held game. The back grounds are beautiful, and the game has over all colorful and appealing. The controls is really what makes this game so fun. The controls are so smooth and fluent. When you jump you know exactly where you will land. You can shoot in multiple directions instead of just straight forward. There are a large variety of enemies like birds, zombies, monkey's, fish, and bugs, that all have there own attacks and jump, fly, or run in completely different patterns which keeps the game fresh.

Over all this is one of the b... Read the rest of this Review
Funny World and Balloon Boy

Funny World and Balloon Boy
Funny World and Balloon Boy was an unlicensed developed by  Realtec. The graphics are actually  pretty good for an unlicensed game, but compared to a game like Sonic the hedgehog, or Golden Axe the graphics look like trash. Lets start with Balloon Boy, you basically just shoot balloons, avoid stuff, and get unidentifiable stuff to raise your score. This game is not very fun to play. The traps in this game are spiders, bees, anvils, and spinning things. It is almost imposable to die in Balloon Boy, I have tried to die by getting hit by every trap that falls, and every time I get down to one life some how I get two lifes back. Ok now Funny World. In this game you shoot these guy that look like pigs. If that is what Realtec considers a funny world I think they need to get some help! It is hard to shoot your target and that is the only reason this game is difficult. Don't shoot the lady pigs or you will get a message that reads "No" . Theres really not much to say about these games. I got a copy of this game on accident, I ordered a copy of another Realtec game called whac-a-critter to test out my Sega smash controller, when the game came in the mail I popped it in the Genesis and to my surprise  the game was Funny World and Balloon Boy, but the cart has the art work for whac-a-critter.
Awesome Possum

Awesome Possum Sega Genesis
Awesome Possum was a game developed by Tengen and released on the Sega Genesis in 1993. Now let me describe this game and you tell me what it sounds like. The game is a plat former, you are a high speed animal, trying to save the forest and other animals from an evil guy that uses his robotic minions to try to stop you. Any guesses? Well ether Awesome Possum is Sonic the Hedgehogs distant cousin or its a complete rip off of Sonic. The controls in this game feel crazy sloppy, and its hard to jump on platforms because its hard to control where you land. The music is not very good, I normally turn the volume on the tv off when I play this game. The enemies in this game include robots with chainsaws, and a drill thing that looks kinda like the first boss in sonic excluding Dr. Robotic driving it. You collect trash to gain 1 ups in this game. One thing I like in Awesome Possum is that you can find a giant bee, and fly it. One of the most annoying thing in this game is after you complete a level you are asked questions buy a group on animals that look like they are in a court room, the questions are normally about stuff in nature or recycling. Yea if I wanted to get quizzed I would go back to school! When I pop in a game I want to play a game not take a science test. Over all this game is not terrible, but its not all that good ether. I do play it every now and then because its so cheesy.
Rainbow Islands

Rainbow Islands - Bub and Bob 2 Sega Master System
Rainbow Islands - bub and Bob 2. This is a bit of an odd game, your only attack is a rainbow that you also use like a staircase. I really didn't think I would like this game when I first played it, but it has grown on me. Rainbow islands is a very simple game, just avoid the enemies and climb your rainbows up to the top of the screen. There are a wide variety of enemies including tanks, planes, robots, red vampires, and a guy that looks like frankenberry. The bosses are normally larger versions of an enemy you faced the levels leading up to the boss battle. The bosses are easier to beat in this game than an any other game I can think of. The game is pretty repetitive, you basically do the same thing in every level, but all the stages look completely different and with different enemies witch helps keep the game from getting boring. This is a really fun game and worth checking out!
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle

Alex Kidd in Enchanted Castle
Alex Kidd was the go to guy for the Sega Master System. Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle was his leap to the new 16 bit console. This game still has all the charm and personality as his previous 8 bit games, and still plays the same as always. The graphics are crisp, the sound is good, and the control is smooth. There are a large variety of enemies like mummies, cars, birds, fish, and scorpions. Each stage looks completely different from the next and has its own challenges witch keeps the game fresh. At the end of each level you are awarded with a yummy rice ball! There are treasure chest that has coins, money bags, and 1 ups. You can punch enemies to kill them but its easier to just jump over them due to your short attack range. You can go into open doors by walking in front of them and holding up, when you enter the house you are challenged to a game of rock, paper, scissors, buy a big hairless ape looking guy, if you win you get a prize, if you lose an anvil falls on your head. There are some things I'm not a big fan of in this game like the one hit kills and having to play rock, paper, scissors to beat the bosses. If I had to pick between Alex Kidd and Sonic I would definitely pick Sonic to be the mascot for the Genesis, but Alex Kidd will all ways the king of the Master System, and should be remembered as a classic. If you haven't play Enchanted Castle I would highly suggest it, Alex Kidd may not be the best game on the Genesis, but it is a really good game and a great leap over from the 8 bit Master System to the 16 bit Sega Genesis.
