Mario\'s Trip to Hell They did two levels, repeated them a couple of times, and then you are just playing the regular game. Uh?
Legend of Zelda, The - The Minish Cap I have all four elements and it's doing great, no freeze.
Legend of Zelda, The - The Minish Cap Heads up: Don't even try to play this in the RGR. Play it in Madnefen. It crashed on me when I went Minish and tried to enter the item shop. Seems to be working great in the other simulator though.
Oregon Trail, The The game works fine for for me, but how do you "flip the diskette"? I've tried pushing every button

When in doubt, Hammer out!
If you read all of my reviews, you might get the idea that I'm a bit obsessed with a certain red-panted plumber. You wouldn't be wrong...but I do like other games, and I thought I'd take a break from pipes and goombas to try out a few of my other favorite game series' mods.

I played Parallel Worlds (and, more successfully, parallel worlds remodel). So I thought, let's see what else is out there. And I found this one. Done by one of the same guys who helped remodel parallel worlds, which was really really good, so I had high hopes going in.

I'm going to warn you straight up: this is REALLY HARD. It's a combination of more (worse) bad-guys, tricky clever puzzles, hidden objects, and a lot...and I do mean a lot...of mazes. MAZES EVERYWHERE. I am not ashamed to admit that I was reduced to looking up the answers a couple of times when I got stuck...

Funny story with that, too. There were two choices of Let's Play videos on YouTube for this game: a German one and an English one. Being a person who speaks only enough German to curse with, I picked the English one. They were both blind play-throughs, which is always a bit annoying. To my vast amusement, the English guy (and his friends who were helping him) were stuck in the SAME PLACE I was...and ended up watching the German's video WHILE THEY WERE MAKING THEIR OWN VIDEO. (You can hear his friend, at one point, saying, "the German guy's going through that door....past that, keep going...") Eventually, the three of us figured it out, but it really made me laugh.

So, anyway. I'm going to break it down this way:

The Good: great hack, interesting and challenging puzzles, great graphics. Really enjoyable.

The Bad: I assume this was a very early hack in PuzzleDude's history; he did some really great things, but there are some really annoying (terrible) things as well. For one thing, NONE OF THE CONVERSATIONS wer... Read the rest of this Review
Super Mario Something

It's something, alright.
If you've read my reviews before, you might notice that I'm a bit addicted to Super Mario game hacks. It's true! I can't help it-Super Mario was my first video game love and no matter how old I get, I still love the little plumber. Even if some of his games have been....less than stellar. (Not naming any names.) So the fact that there were so many different hacks of my old favorite games on Vizzed was one of the biggest draws for me to this game site.

This is another hack of Super Mario World. I think that's the most-hacked Mario game on here-I could be wrong, but it seems like it. And I've played many, many different varieties of these games. Some have been terrible, a few have been great. And some, like this game, are just...ok. Pretty good. Not bad. Eh. I think you get the idea.

If you're looking for a fantastic hack of Super Mario World, I'd suggest another version-maybe The Second Reality Project. If you're looking for something fun to play that feels like the original game but different, this isn't a bad game to pick up.

There's nothing about it that really is really good or really bad. It doesn't do a lot to change the basic game. No snazzy new enemies, no awesome new ideas. Just solid Super Mario game action with a slightly different package.

On to the numbers!

Graphics: 8
Pretty standard stuff for the most part. Some graphic hacks of enemies (the flying sperm-goomba ghosts were hilarious, sorry.) Some background changes, mostly color-swaps and some texture changes. Pretty effective overall-there wasn't anywhere that made my eyes bleed or messed with my head too much, which was nice. I can't tell if some of the monsters were actual graphic-changes or just imports from other games, but if they were imports they were at least blended very well.

Sound: 8
Once again, pretty basic. I gave it a slightly higher than normal score because I thought the choices were really effective in a cou... Read the rest of this Review
Mario\'s Enigmatic Tales 1 - The Betrayal (demo 3)

This game needs more love!
I love Mario. Everyone knows that, or at least, they should by now. So I'm always on the lookout for a new Mario Hack to play. And I've played a lot of them....most of them ok. Not good, but not bad, just...ok. And I've played some that were just...oh, god, terrible. And then I've played some that were just so odd and inexplicable they left me staring at the screen in bewilderment.

It was nice to finally find one that did it right.

This game doesn't try too hard. It doesn't try to pack a lot of different Mario games into one and then blend them so they don't look strange. It doesn't amp up the difficulty to tear-your-hair-out range just so it can be 'different' than the other hacks. It doesn't just take a level and change the colors and call it a new hack.

What it does is take the familiar, time-honored elements of Super Mario World, mix them up, and add a few new, surprising twists. And what it gives you is a solid, satisfying, playable game who's only real problem is not being long enough.

The 'demo' only goes through castle 5. Which was really unfortunate; I would have loved to play more.

If you loved the original Super Mario Brothers, I guarantee* that you're going to enjoy this one.

*Not an actual guarantee. Just a very strong feeling.

ON TO THE NUMBERS!

 Graphics: 10
True to the original game almost completely, with a few color-swap monsters and some color-tweaking on areas. Nothing too weird and in fact, in a couple of places, the color-swaps were actually pretty cool. (See: The lake of Hot Chocolate.)

Sound: 1
I hate to give this a bad score anywhere, but this demo has no sound? There is a version with custom sounds, but this is the one I started playing on. Not terrible, but I can't give it points for something it doesn't have. That wouldn't be fair.

Addictiveness: 8
I give this about the same rating I'd give the original... Read the rest of this Review

Should be called bumper armor.
This game brings back a ton of nostalgia for me. This is the only-and I mean that literally-the ONLY game I ever played on a Gamegear. My rich cousin had come to visit and he was playing his. I'd never even seen one in real life before. I asked to play it, he said "Noooo" but my aunt made him give it over. I got to play it for fifteen interesting minutes before he couldn't take it anymore, snatched it out of my hand, and went back to ignoring me. No loss.

I've been looking for this game forever, and now that I've found it...I confess, memory does make the heart grow fonder. And fogs the details.

This is a game that you will either like or hate. For the majority of people, it's going to be BORING. Seriously, tediously boring. Mind-numblingly boring.

For me? Well, I'm one of those kids who loved putting together puzzles and mapped out the original Nintendo Zelda on a huge series of graph papers (complete with carefully colored pencil individual bushes), so...yeah. I like this game, despite its many obvious glaring flaws.

The entire game consists of walking into things. You clear out the 'fog' on the map by walking against the bushes/flowers/cactus/rocks. You kill enemies by walking into them and letting the computer figure out if you hit it or not. That's it. Walk into things. You pick up various colored potions, books, rods and rings, you find different armor and swords, and you clear a level by finding (walking into) the gate. You have health, which you replenish with potions, and food that you pick up, which somehow helps you regenerate until you're out of food and then your hit points start to go down? I'm not entirely sure, even after playing it quite a bit, exactly what the relationship between these two things are except that you need food, and if you run out of food you are in trouble. So, just pick up the food. That's a pretty safe bet.

A tip for anyone who wants to play it: THROW THE STUFF. If you pick it up... Read the rest of this Review
Legend of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

Surprisingly not terrible.
So. I never owned a Game Gear; I played my cousin's a bit when he was up, but he didn't like to share that much, so my time with them was limited. Thus I'd never heard of this game. Looking it up online makes me kind of surprised-there's quite a few people who evidently have heard of and not really hated this game. There's even a few let's-plays on youtube for it.

This game was released in 1995. The story-line is kind of lame: you're a laundry boy (Mickey) and you set out to rescue the kingdom because the King (Donald?) is missing. Of course, you end up on a mission to save the world. Nice how everyone's more than willing to let the laundry boy...er, mouse...do all the 'dirty' work, huh? Hah hah, I crack myself up.

Anyhow. Your weapon-you're ONLY weapon-is...magic soap bubbles. Let me say that again. Magic. Soap. Bubbles. Later you get to throw rocks, which is a huge improvement. At least I don't feel like a dope chucking rocks at things, rather than blowing bubbles at them. And I'm really trying hard to avoid any "don't drop the soap" jokes, ok?

Despite my sarcasm here, I really didn't hate this game. Aside from some serious issues with control (see below), I kind of enjoyed it. I played all the way through it, unlike most of the games I try. It was cute, not that difficult, the puzzles were interesting and varied, and it was fun seeing Disney characters from my childhood in strange places-my favorite was all the way back in the first level, with Hiss from Robin Hood in his floating bubble spy get-up.

I would recommend this to anyone who just needs a little fun play between more serious games, with an extra shout-out for older people who would recognize the characters (which you younger whippersnappers probably wouldn't get all the references for.)

For the Game Gear, not half bad. Bright colors, easily identifiable characters, some very interesting background work...I was slightly impress... Read the rest of this Review
