MUSHA - Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor
05-08-13 10:00 AM
Musha: Ellinor and Big Asia
M.U.S.H.A.
Musha Aleste: Full Metal Fighter Ellinor /
Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor
Requested By: Superdan

Musha first hit the gaming market in December of 1990. Developed by Compile, it was first published by Toaplan on the Sega Genesis. It was later (2008) released by Seismic Sega on the Virtual Console.

When Musha released in 1990, it drew a lot of attention and quickly became popular among the gaming community. Today, Musha still has its fair share of fans who have this game a rarity to find, causing it to fetch big bucks among game collectors.

But what exactly is Musha? Musha is a vertical scrolling shooter about a mech pilot named Ellinor who must single-handedly go against a rogue supercomputer controlling a colony named Dire51. The supercomputer, Big Asia, sends attack units in the beginning of the game to take out your team of five mech pilots. Ellinor (you) are the only survivor.

\\\Note that in Japan, Musha is named "Musha Aleste: Full Metal Fighter Ellinor," while in the North American version, the game was renamed to "Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor" or "M.U.S.H.A." for short.///

+++Graphics (10/10)
When designing Musha, Compile went above and beyond in the graphical arena. Musha features breathtaking backgrounds, attacks, attackers, mechas... even the opening scene for Musha is exemplary.

There are no noticeable breaks in the quality of graphics that Musha features. From the opening anime, which is crystal clear to Ellinor "evolving" in mid-battle and beyond, Musha clearly earns a ten of ten on graphics.

+++Sound (10/10)
You know how most video games play the same sound over and over until you mute your TV or video game system simply because you are sick of hearing it? Yeah, Musha is not guilty of the atrocious headache-inducing pain that most other video games are. Musha introduces great music that changes f... Read the rest of this Review

It's not as easy as it looks, you worms!

Worms

OverallGraphicsSoundAddictivenessStoryDepthDifficulty6.6897--36

Overall: 6.6

While not nearly being as simple as some of the MAME games, Worms still is a ratherb un-complicated game. A new game begins in an unmarked territory that is randomly generated with several "armies" of worms placed on the map. The game plays out as a turn-based free-for-all war in which you must attack the other worms and try to kill them before they kill you.  To achieve this, you get ten weapons (Bazooka, Grenade, Cluster Bomb, Shotgun, Uzi, Fire Punch, Dragon Ball, Dynamite, Airstrike, Teleport)  that you can choose to attack with each turn (one attack per turn). Each weapon achieves a different effect which can prove more or less effective in each situation. You also have to be careful because it's extremely easy to injure yourself in the blast from the weapons - especially the Bazooka. Oh, and when Worms die, they give off a small explosion that damages any nearby items.

Another neat fact about Worms is that the weapons damage the terrain as quickly and easy as it does the worms that just so happen to be caught in the blast. I have personally seen people use this fact to their advantage to create tunnels and valleys to "trap" other worms.

Graphics: 8

Giving allowance to the fact that Worms is a particularly old game on an equally old console, it has some pretty damned decent graphics. Earning an "8" from me, Worms' graphics manages to cover all the neat little weapons and AOE effects while still maintaining a high image quality [for the age of the system and game, anyhow].

Sound: 9
There's not much that you can say about sound, really; it was clean. Worms' sound is not choppy and plays well. (Although, like all other sound, repetitive listening makes it really old and annoyi... Read the rest of this Review

Get home safely, little frog!
Get home safely, little frog!
Frogger, MAME Arcade

Overall: 9.7
"Always look both ways before you cross the street" used to be one of the pieces of advice that I considered common sense and wished I would never hear again in my life. Frogger, however, takes that little piece of advice and makes it, literally, your little frog's lifesaver. You have to pay attention to several lanes of traffic going in different directions as just the very first part of the timed puzzles that make up Frogger. Despite it's simplistic approach to puzzles, Frogger is one of the favorites that can hold your attention for hours as you try to trump the various arenas that this game throws at you.

For those of you that has never played Frogger, let's look at this screenshot to see what is going on here:

In the first five lines, you have rows of vehicles that pass by in changing speeds and alternating directions. Then, you have the rest bar. Don't rest here too long, though. Frogger is a timed game and if you wait too long, then your frog will die! And don't get squished on the road while getting to this center bar.

In the second five lines, you have Turtles - Small Logs - Big Logs - More Turtles - And one last row of logs. Some of the Turtles dip under the water, which, if you are on them when they do, will kill you. So keep moving and try to get to those little square water spots.

Oh, and another fun fact: while jumping into your "home," make sure that you center it or you will crack your little frog to pieces on the bank surrounding your home. We wouldn't want that to happen when you went through all the effort of crossing the roads and then the river to get home before you died of whatever the timer is timing. Starvation? Dehydration? Cancer? There just isn't a way to tell with your little green frog.

That aside, your frog can also only move so fast. So you really need to pay attention to what you ... Read the rest of this Review

Bazillions of Guns and more
Bazillions of Guns... and more
Borderlands & Borderlands GOTY Edition, Xbox 360

Overall Rating: 9.8

Borderlands is probably the only game that I've ever seen not lie as it states something like "bazillions" of guns. This game literally has bazillions. Okay, maybe that's slightly exaggerated... however it does have a rather unique method of creating the guns in-game. Instead of using a pre-created set of guns, like Call of Duty does, Borderlands uses a Gun Generator which means that it's pretty damned difficult to get two identical guns. (I've actually heard it said that it is nearly impossible.) Personally, I have never gotten two guns even slightly similar. (As in, share any two stats.)

Guns aside, Borderlands boasts a seemingly endless quota of quests to complete. Several of the quests allow you to proceed along the primary story line. However, many "side" quests give depth to the story line and allow you to do, meet, and kill more.

On top of that, there are quite a number of characters to get to know from the Claptraps to T.K. to Mad Moxxi and beyond. (Mad Moxxi is personally my favorite.) Various quests can introduce you to new characters. T.K. is somebody that you get to know very early in the game when the "tutorial" quests take you over to him for a few main-line quests before you can start freely choosing which quests you take.

You also have the "monsters" like the Scags and Bandits, two of the enemies that you meet from the getgo. Scags are my favorite creature in the game. The others that you'll meet along the way are Spiderants, Rakks, Scythids, Crab Worm Larvae, Trash Feeder, Drifter, and the Craw Maggot. Sure, that sounds like a puny list but each enemy has several ranks. Take the Scags, for example. They can appear in any of the following ranks: Scag Pup, Scag Whelp, Adult Scag, Spitter Scag, Elder Scag, Alpha Scag, and Badass Scag. Add in the fact that the higher level Scags can also be elem...
