Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is an
RPG, country life simulator developed by Concerned Ape and published by
ChunkleFish. It was released on February 26, 2016. In this game you are
role-playing as a farmer, who previously lived in the city but wanted to escape
the city life and now you own your grandfather’s farm. Now you going to live
out the rest of your life building up your farm, helping the people of Pelican
Town.
Graphics: 10/10
This game does not
have those AAA graphics, like most of today’s games. Its more like 8 bit,
colorful and very real feeling RPG game. Every in the games hand drawn, meaning
the developers put a lot of work and dedication into making this look like it
is right now. The art design is amazing. It also proves to have fluid animation,
everything thing seems to move with the game in perfect sync and everything
seems to pop out at you. Its one of those games to brings old style hand drawn
graphics into the modern generation. Also what’s good about this, no need for a
over the top gaming pc. Even a Pentium 4 (or CPU up to 2 Ghz) computer could
run this if paired with a fairly decent graphics processor with 256 MB Video
RAM (Not Dedicated), Shader 3.0+. Nothing specific, but nonetheless amazing and
everyone could play.
Sounds: 10/10
Whoever composed the
music in this is simply amazing at what they do. I really love the soundtrack
in this game. There’s always something different based on the season’s. Spring
and summer, very upbeat. Fall is very mellow, and winter is beautiful. There
was a lot of time dedicated into composing the sounds and the soundtrack. It’s
all instrumental, no real singing involved. So for the sounds, all types of
sounds have to go perfect to what is going on in the game, especially since
your living in a farm, were the sounds of animals are very lively, or the ocean
where the constant sounds of seagulls and the beautiful sounds of the waves
crashing on the shore, the sweet sound of you catching a fish or the sound of
combat while in the mines or just mining.
Addictiveness: 8/10
Nope this is not just
a Farming Simulator where your camera is just focused at one thing all the time
and have to upgrade constantly and even forced to purchase items with real
money. It’s an RPG, where you also forge, mine, fish, interact with other (ie
NPC’s), and fighting monsters. That’s what is so addictive about this game, you
get to do whatever you want. There’s no ending to it. You could be the hero or
just be that mean farmer down the road. You got looks to do with a lot of time
to do it. I wouldn’t be surprise if you played this for hours in a day. It’s
one of those games that hits the market by storm and everyone wants to buy it.
Luckily there was no waiting in line since this was all online.
Story 4/10
The story is mainly
what you choose to do in the game, or important that might happen that will
benefit Stardew Valley and Pelican Town or not. You could make friends with the
people of Pelican Town or just do nothing. There’s not much of a story that you
have follow, everything revolves around what you do. The games starts by you
inheriting your grandfather’s farm and work to improve this old, overgrown farm.
Depth: 10/10
Stardew Valley has a
lot to offer. You could do a lot of things in this game. Its very well
developed. Like I mentioned before, you could forge for important material and
fruits/berries, care for your crops, tend to the animals and make sure they’re
happy, fishing, and mining for ores and minerals. So about faming, there’s
always a change in seasons. There’s Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and they’re
all at least 28 days long. Certain crops only grow in certain season except
Winter with the exception of plaint Wild Seeds (winter). So be aware when the
season is almost over. You could also make friends with the villages and some
of them are available for marriage after reaching a certain level of
friendship. Also you could help villages with quest and give them gifts based
on what they like. Not all of them like the same things and have different
taste for beauty. Lets not forget tool/weapons. Only certain items could be
obtained by the tool its used for with some exceptions. Also you could upgrade
these tools to make obtain materials easier or assessable to more rare
material. For weapons, the better the sword the easier to kill. Some swords can
be bought or obtain in mines. I could talk about more, but you don’t want to be
spoiled by a potentially great adventure.
Difficulty: 6/10
There’s always
something out there to make your farming life more difficulty. Whether it’s just
the seasons, the weather, financial problems (lack of coins). There is not no
set difficulty, just events meant to slow you down a bit. If we didn’t have
that then this game would be too easy and boring. Something has to happen at
least.
Other Info
For all who is wondering
if they could play this game on their pc. Its capable for Windows, Mac OSX,
Linux Ubuntu. Not need for a high end laptop either. Its rather low specs
friendly.
Anyway I hope you
enjoyed reading this review or just replying for Viz/CP.
