How To Bridge
I played this game quite a bit when I first got it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is one remarkable and really clever puzzle game that’s just so much fun and really makes you think. Have you ever seen one of those really weird pictures? The ones where you see different staircases, but they are all going in different directions, upside down, and every which way? That’s just what this game is about really. You are given one little map, and through the use of moving the world counter/clockwise, you can get onto different parts of the map, and that’s how you move. You could have two levels in one map, and from the looks of it, it will look impossible to get to, but once you start tilting everything, you see that there’s hidden floors that you can only walk on if you’re sideways and all sorts of different things that will either help you progress or throw you off.

GRAPHICS: 9/10

The graphics are really really good. Some people might say how are the graphics good if there’s literally no color? Well, it’s true that there is no color and that the entire game is all black and white, but that’s what makes the game look and feel so amazing. The game looks like it’s all one giant animated sketch. It really does look like someone just took a pencil and filled everything in and then animated, and if I had to compare it to another game, I would have to say that this style really makes me think of the game Don’t Starve, which the style had worked really well for, and if I had to think of even more stuff to compare it to, I’d go ahead and compare it to the likes of Tim Burton stuff. The way you tilt the world even has a great effect on the animations! Just tilt it a little bit and the character walks in a different manner and it looks great, the style is just spot on.

SOUND: 9/10

One of the first things that you notice when you play the game is the music, which in fact sounds like something you would hear in Don’t Starve or a Tim Burton movie. It’s a nice orchestral tune that sounds like a Danny Elfman tune (Who does Burton films) and it can both get you into a fun mood to the play the game or can also do the complete opposite but regardless of how it makes you feel, the music is really good, something that you could expect to hear in a movie. As for sounds, there are a few stray sound effects that pop up when you do random things such as when something is moving or falling. Other than that, only the music plays which still gives a nice feel.

ADDICTIVENESS: 8/10

The game is addicting because every level, even the very first one, requires a decent amount of brainpower and makes you think. You might not want to play the same level over and over because once you complete a puzzle that first time, you know how to do it and it kind of loses the interest, but if you like puzzles and you like making your brain work for you, then you will have no problem playing puzzle after puzzle without stopping for hours at a time. That’s the biggest draw of the game and it works, it gets you to play non stop because you know you can beat it, you just don’t know how, and it’s going to kill you until you can finally beat it.

STORY: 5/10

There is a small story, which begins with the character waking up after being hit by a falling apple and going to his house, but the doors of his house lead to rooms that are just crazy, like a library that require tilting the world a dozen times. Parts of the story are revealed as the game goes on, but it’s a puzzle game, unless you are the kind of gamer who has to know the story, even if it’s not important you won’t pay it any mind and you’re going to stick to the puzzles. That’s the main focus of the game, going through the levels and figuring them out, there is a story but it’s only secondary.

DEPTH: 9/10

The game has a decent amount of stuff to keep you occupied for however long it takes you to beat all the levels. The entire game takes place in your house and there are 3 chapters with each one having a bunch of levels. In theory, the levels are short and are just a room, but in practice, they can take a really long time to complete and even will require you to restart the level a bunch of times until you can figure out what you need to do. So later on in the game, one easy looking level could take you 10 minutes or more to complete so don’t let the small number of levels fool you, because the game offers a lot.

DIFFICULTY: 6

I guess for the difficulty aspect of the game, I could mention some of the stuff that I had brought up in the depth aspect, because that proves how difficult the game can be. Remember, it’s a puzzle game, so it will require you to think and look at things for ideas. If you can’t look at the level and figure out “Ok, that ball will drop and roll that way if I tilt to the right, but that key will fall if I tilt to the left” before you even start the level, then it’s going to be quite difficult for you to complete. For the most part, the game is easy and you will easily be able to see what you need to do right away, but there will be times where you need to put your brainpower to the max or you won’t be able to get far.

OVERALL: 8.2/10

Overall, this game does have a lot to offer a gamer, and the $10 price might seem a lot for a game with so few levels, but looking at the art and hearing the nice music, along with struggling and thinking for an hour to get through one fun filled level makes it all worth it. The standard review of the game is an 88 percent, so that means that a lot of people out there are enjoying the game just as much as I am and I am sure that you can too if you played it. If you are a fan of puzzle games, then give this one a try as I’m sure you’ll grow to like it after one or two levels. Overall, my grade for The Bridge is going to be an 8.2 out of 10.
