Head Soccer Review by: zanderlex - 9.2/10

Headball
Head Soccer is one really brilliant game. I discovered this game for the first time by overhearing some people I know talk about it so I decided to check it out for myself. The very first day that I played it I hated it because it took up so much space, almost 200 MB and I was so bad at it. But then the 2nd day came and as I started to get the hang of the game and I got better I began to realize how good it was. It got to the point where I would play the game every single day for an hour or more wherever I was because there were so many good things about it. After just a couple days of playing it I was fully immersed in it and it quickly became one of my favorite mobile games though this version didn't have multiplayer like the other versions did which was a bummer. Nonetheless, the game had so much to offer and was a lot of fun, by now I must have played the game for more than 100 hours in total.

GRAPHICS 8/10

The graphics for Head Soccer are really good in my opinion, and funny as well. It has this neat animated style that kind of makes the game stand out. Just look at the main menu for the game, it features an animated guy with a huge, hilarious head doing an epic leap with a ball in his hands that seems to be flowing towards a goalie who looks just as funny and a stadium. For the most part, the game is pretty simple but it features a lot of colors to make it visually stand out. First you have the green field which has the goalies, the players, and the colorful advertisements that change based on where you are playing. Then you have the stands which feature bright banners and even though the fans are all blurry, every single one has a different color. Behind that is the outside of the stadium which features the sky and clouds and when you look at everything as a whole, there's really so much to take in and its all so colorful.

The stadium and the background are really just the beginning of what the graphics has to offer because in my opinion the best part would have to be the characters themselves. First off, each character has their own unique look which is cool alone, but they all have insane animations. Each character has their own special move which will shoot the ball in the most creative of ways whether it be a machine, laser, webs, you name it, and the animations for those moves are pretty cool. You don't really have to go to so far as the special moves to see animation at work because a simple kick to the other player will cause the appearance of that player to change bases on how hurt they are. When you combine all of those aspects, you end up with a game that's pretty fun to look at and my grade for graphics is going to be an 8 out of 10.

SOUND 8/10

The game doesn't really have any major sounds, what it does have is a small sound here, a small sound there, and a few more sounds scattered around. However when you combine all those sounds, you come up with something that's fun to listen to and at times can even be a bit funny. You have the basic sounds like that of the whistle when the game starts or when a goal is scored or the sound that plays when you kick the ball or another player. Then you have the more advanced sounds such as the ones that play when someone does their special move. I always played against the Spiderman guy because he was the easiest to beat so i had to endure his special move so many times that his unique special move cry was soon engraved in my memory. Even the sounds from the special moves can vary from some sort of a cry to a mechanic sound.

You have so many more sounds as well, even for the smallest of things, like when a player gets dizzy. If you kick the other player enough times, they get kicked all the way to the back and fall down with stars above their heads and a special noise plays for that. Even all that is just the beginning because there are probably many more sounds to the game that I'm forgetting about and that's because there's just so many of them. Lets face it, if there were no sounds in the game and we were just kicking the ball back and forth it wouldn't really be as much fun now would it? All of these random noises bring out the best of the game, they make it more fun to play and they make it even more comedic than it already is and for that my grade for sound is going to be another 8 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 10/10

There's no reason to believe that this game can't be fun and addicting, and if there's anybody who says that, then they are lying. If you like soccer games then this would be the kind of game for you but if you also like comedy then this would pretty much be perfect for you because it perfectly blends the best of soccer, action, and humor to make one amazing video game. First off, even though the game does have a lot of comedy in it, it still happens to be a very competitive game. You want to win, you want to win a lot, and you want to make sure that you destroy each of your opponents by as many goals as you can. I love the competitiveness of the game, I used play against each enemy dozens of times just for fun well after I unlocked the last stage. I wanted to get as much money as I could from them, I wanted to unlock all of the badges for that level and I wanted to score as many goals as I could in one round. Even once I reached a goal count that was unmatchable and I unlocked all of the badges of that level I would keep playing against that one enemy over and over again because it was still a lot of fun.

There are many different aspects of the game that make it this addicting and the competitiveness is just one of them, another main one would be the humor. You might want to play against each person over and over simply because its funny. You might end up seeing or doing something that's just plain stupid, one of you could do something that simply fails and backfires in spectacular fashion, or you could simply see the greatest play ever that just amazes you. I know that stuff like this has happened to me in the past, I've played hundreds of matches already and some of the plays that I see now still catch me off guard and manage to amaze me. Maybe you like the game because of it's competitiveness, or maybe you you like it because it makes you laugh, or maybe for one of the many other reasons. No matter what the reason is, you're going to like the game and you're going to find it to be very addicting once you have played it for a while. I already love it and my grade for this aspect really can't be anything lower than a perfect 10 out of 10.

STORY 7/10

I guess you could say that there's a story in this game, a few of them actually but they all revolve around winning tournaments and whatever. There's a few different game modes with the main one being the arcade mode. In this one you are given a long list of opponents that you need to play against. You can play each one as many times as you want but once you beat them for the first time, the next opponent is unlocked. You win money with each won which lets you buy skills, other upgrades, and lets you buy an entry into one of the tournaments. Once you have enough money and skills you can enter the tournaments like the league. There are three different levels of a league and for each one you play through a season of 18 matches. If you do well enough you get a ton of money and a trophy and if you win you get to go to the next level.

Next you have the cup which is a bracket style tournament with like three rounds and its really tough, no I have not yet won this one yet. I can only assume that you can win a ton of money if you do well in this. If you think you're good enough, you can move onto the survival mode which pits you in one long continuous chain of matches until you lose. Every 10th match is a boss match and by beating them you unlock a rank as well as new characters and costumes. I have never gotten anywhere near the top rank and probably never made it past like 30. Sure, there's no real plot but the game is all about progression and passing these goals so that's all that's really needed and my grade for story is going to be a 7 out of 10.

DEPTH 10/10

The game really does have a ton of depth, and the size of the game pretty much backs that up. I have seen some good mobile games that took up like 10 to 30 MB, and most games that I have seen were maybe 60 to 100, but this one takes the cake as one of the largest mobile games that I have ever played at more than 180 MB. Does all the stuff that's in the game warrant such a huge size? I would think so, its like every MB went towards something that can actually be played. Instead of over putting space into graphics, pretty much everything was put into the actual game play which means there's so much more to do. On the surface the size can be a pain bit once you start playing the game you will learn that this much space was fair considering how much there is to do in the game.

I pretty much listed everything you can do as part of the story, but there really is that much, just take a look at the arcade mode. That's one of four large game modes and there's dozens of opponents for you to fight through. You might even find yourself playing well over two hundred matches before you can even beat the arcade mode with your starter player. It gets even better once you start playing the other game modes because once you start unlocking the other characters you get to play the entire arcade mode over again with each new character. You can literally go on to play tens of thousands of matches just in the arcade mode alone. The other game modes can easily rack up many hours and matches as well and once you beat those you can do the same thing as the arcade mode and you can play all the other game modes with each new character. This game has no shortage of things to do, there's a lot of stuff smooshed into this one game and my grade for depth is going to be a perfect 10 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 3

The game isn't too hard, there isn't really much that you need to get used to, especially when it comes to the controls because its really easy. All you are doing throughout the entire game is moving left and right, jumping, and kicking, and every now and then you will do a special move. The only thing that you really need to di is learn how to time everything, like your jumps together with your kicks or when and where to do your special move. If you are playing the arcade mode, the opponents will get harder but as you beat the easier ones you should be able to upgrade your skills to the point where the harder ones appear easy. You might find some trouble with the other game modes like the cup which can become really tough because all the players are at the very top of their game probably with all their skills maxed out but the only thing that you can do for this is to do the same and get your skills to the top and then the matches will be an easy stroll in the park. That's all there is to it, the game is very easy and for a grade, difficulty is going to get a 3.

OVERALL 9.2/10

I'm actually quite surprised that I hadn't reviewed this game earlier, I've had it for at least half a year or so and I've had so much fun with it all this time. It's free, so that's a huge plus for a game that's this much fun, but then again the huge size of the game might turn a few people away from it. If you like Soccer games or even just games that are fun in general then I realm suggest that you give this one a try because it's fun, it's hilarious, and it's fully worth the space. If you get bored of it after a while, all you need to do is delete it and get all your space back so there's literally nothing to worry about. Think of it as an amazing product that has a lifetime free trial, that's exactly what this is so stop thinking and get it. This version of the game is great, but if you don't have a Windows phone and have something else like an Android, then I would even suggest getting it more because of multiplayer. All in all, you're pretty much a loser if you don't at least consider giving this game a try. In terms of sports games, I would have to say that this could be the best mobile sports games that you could play and for a grade, it's going to get a 9.2 out of 10.
