NASCAR '15 Review by: zanderlex - 9.2/10

All Hail Jeff Gordon
Some people should already know how much of a fan I am of racing games, I played every single Gran Turismo game except for one for multiple systems, and the very first racing game I ever played, and one of my favorite sports games of all times happens to be one of the very first NASCAR games, NASCAR 98. So it's really not a surprise that I would want to play this game because there's really nothing that I don't like about these kinds of games. I've been playing NASCAR games since I was about 10 years old or so and the love for this series hasn't died yet so when this game first came out I made sure to save up some money to get a copy. Well let me be a bit more realistic, I saw Jeff Gordon and then I right away went to everyone I knew and begged for some money to get it.

NASCAR 98 was when I first heard of Jeff Gordon and he's really what got me super interested in Racing, both in real life and in video games. When I first bought the game I tested it out for a bit and I was amazed by how awesome the game was, it was a huge step forward from the last time that I had played a NASCAR game. It's one of just 5 PS3 games that I have now since I got my old system back and without a doubt it's the best out of all of them.

GRAPHICS 10/10

If you are a gamer in general, you really need to be in awe at how awesome the graphics are. Some game series use different developers for different games, like how Call of Duty pretty much uses a different one for each game, and because of that usually change up a lot and they sometimes work on many other games as well. That's not really the case with this game. The developers of this game pretty much specialize in only racing games aside for a few others which means that pretty much everything they know how to do revolves around making good looking racing games. They don't make a racing game here and then a shooting game there and have to switch things up. Even though they have only been working on the NASCAR series for about 4 years now, the developers have been working on only car games for more than a decade, meaning they already had more experience and resources then they would need to make the NASCAR games amazing even before they took on the project.

The developers have done a great job making sure that the game looked wonderful and as realistic as it can be. Everything looks as realistic as it can be, even the trees that pass you by in some of the races look extremely detailed and all the courses are full of detail and color. Every car looks amazing and whatever little ad you can put onto a car, they made sure that you can see all of it. Even when you're in the 1st person view it looks great. You see all the little buttons and dials on the dashboard, the other cars zoom behind you, and you can even see the car shaking around as you drive it at 200 Miles Per Hour. All in all the game looks really realistic and when yo're talking about a sports game, not some sci fi game that doesn't look like something you would really say, that's a huge accomplishment. Game looks amazing and for that it gets a perfect 10 out of 10.

SOUND 8/10

In a way, the sound of the game has it's pros and cons. The one thins that some people might not really like would kind of be the realism of the sounds. The main thing that you hear throughout the game would be the sound of the car itself like the engine. As you speed up and brake, you hear the various sounds of the car. I personally like this because it gives a much better feel to the gameplay and really makes it feel like you are actually in the car, however there have been a few people who have said that having that sound play during the entire time that they are in a race can get somewhat annoying, especially if the volume is up. Aside for the engine, there's a ton of other sounds that you would hear at a race, like when you crash, and oh boy are you going to hear that a lot. Every time you hit something you hear something that makes you feel like your car is going to explode and aside for those sounds there's also some voices that are played at various points during the races.

Next you have the soundtrack in addition to the various sounds which isn't really all that good considering there isn't a large assortment of songs. If I'm not mistaken, there's like 4 or 5 songs in the entire games soundtrack for you to listen to. They're all some sort of rock like music and I am personally ok with all of them considering the nature of the game. I don't actually like this kind of music but with the fast paced game and the style of the game it makes the game appear more dramatic and fun. Personally I would say that the regular game sounds would be the best aspect of Sound since I'm not too fond of the music and the grade for sound is going to be an 8 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 10/10

Of course this game is addicting, the series wouldn't have been around for two decades if it wasn't. At times, the game can be very thrilling and there can be plenty of very dramatic moments, and crashes of course. Just crashing for fun is probably something you can do over and over and never lose interest. Not just in this game, but in every NASCAR game I have ever played I would start a random free race and drive backwards just to see how big of a crash I can cause. The fun in doing that just never ends. Then there's the competitiveness of the game which makes it way more addicting then you might think, as you're driving you're going to see cars pass you or creep up behind you and you're going to do whatever you can to make sure you don't lose your spot. The same goes for when you're sneaking up on someone else, you'll do whatever it takes to pass them and your heart will be racing at all times.

A race can be pretty long but you need to literally pay attention to every single second as well as every little piece of detail going on around you. You make one little mistake and boom, you're 10 spots back and everything you worked foe the last ten minutes is all gone. Not all games have this kind of suspense, where you're on the edge of your seat for the entire duration of the race and for every race that you will ever play. Forget going for the cup and all the suspense that goes along with it, you can find yourself playing a free race with every single driver racetrack combination just because its so much fun. There is no doubt that this game is addicting and as for a grade, it gets a perfect 10 out of 10.

STORY N/A

It's a sports game so there isn't really much of a story since its based on real sporting events and tournaments and whatnot. The only thing that would really count as a story would be the seasons and going for the cup, but that's all that there is. There's a few bits and pieces of a story here and there but this grade is going to be left blank.

DEPTH 9/10

Not only does the game feature regular Cup drivers but there's also a ton of part time drivers and drivers from other series and cups as well which means that all in all the game has a ton of drivers, well more than 3 dozen to be exact. Having that many "characters" to choose from in any game should automatically mean that the game has a lot of depth. One sad point is that you can't change the cars mostly like you can in other racing games but that's only because that doesn't really happen in the real NASCAR, and when it comes to options, having that many drivers is really good enough.

After that you have the selection of racetracks that you can choose from. If you're in the cup, you can't really choose them but there are so many tracks available, tracks that are official title brand tracks and regular ones as well and are based on the actual racetracks across the country which is really cool. For the main points of the game, the only things that you can really mess around with are the drivers and the tracks, there isn't really much else to play with but the total number of combinations you can make between driver and track prove that the game has a lot to offer. As for a grade, the depth is really good and gets a 9 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 5

The game isn't really too difficult and there isn't much that you need to worry about. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? Well sure, you can make one split second mistake, crash into something, drop 20 spots, and have all your hopes and dreams crushed, but it can't get any worse than that so you're fine. For now. The only thing that you would really need to worry about would be the controls because most of the time when you're on a track it's going to be really tight and that's where 101% of the accidents will happen. Either a car will come up to you and you don't react in time, you go the wrong way, you go too fast or too slow, etc. Even if you do get a hang of the controls, there's still going to be a few problems because you can't always account for the course or the other cars but that's exactly how real racing is and there's nothing to do about that. So all in all the game is fairly easy, you just need to get used to the controls and watch your back and you shouldn't find too many troubles with the game aside for a few deaths here and there and im going to say that the difficult of the game is going to be an even 5.

OVERALL 9.2/10

This is an amazing game and if you are already a fan of the series then I suggest you go out and get it, regardless of how much the game costs because you will definitely get a good amount of play time out of it, it's just that good. It's a fast paced game and it's so awesome that you can probably have just as much fun from watching YouTube videos of it for hours and hours and still want to play the game. That's how much I love the game as well, there's this one YouTuber who plays the game and I watched an entire series of him doing all the races. Yes, it's one of the best racing games I have ever played and my overall grade for it is going to be a 9.2 out of 10.
