Twisted Metal Head On Review by: zanderlex - 9/10

TWISTED

It was more than 10 years ago when I had played my first Twisted Metal game, but I remember it like it was just yesterday. I don't remember whether it was the 1st or 2nd game in the series, all I knew was that the game was amazing and that ever since then, I had been attached to the series. Unfortunately, that had also been the last game in the series that I have played for a while. Then, one day towards the end of 2012, I bought myself a PSP. Shortly after I had bought the system, I learned that there was a somewhat recent Twisted Metal game for this system and I ended up buying that as well, and my amazement in the series had grown.

As for the graphics of the game, it had a few pros and cons. The graphics were nowhere near as good as its PS3 counterpart, but they were good enough for a handheld game. You can see all the details in the cars, weapons, and buildings, but if you ask me, the developers should have waited a bit  longer for this game to be released and tweak it a bit. My overall grade for the graphics is an 8 out of 10.

The sound is okay, there are constant gunshots, explosions, and crashes to keep our ears occupied as well as some really good voice acting. I would talk about music, but there is no music that is really worth noting in this game, and I will give the sound portion of this game a 7 out of 10.

Next we are going to talk about the story which is set similar to that of the first two Twisted Metal games in which this man known as Calypso holds a tournament between all of the drivers with their crazy cars and the winner gets a wish granted. At the beginning there are maybe a dozen or so cars that you can choose and depending on which driver you use, the ending will be different with each driver having their wish granted. Most of the wishes end up either killing the person or completely backfiring, and I believe that there was only one driver that actually had a wish granted that was somewhat decent. The tournament takes place over the course of 10 different locations which some are Tokyo, Greece, Paris, and Egypt. The story is fun to watch how it plays out and I am going to give the story a grade of 9 out of 10.

The game is very fun, it’s like the driving portion of Gran Theft Auto but on steroids. It’s so much fun to drive around in these funny cars and shoot other just as funny cars with comical weapons. The game is fun enough that once you beat the game, you will play it over and over again with different drivers. Overall, I give a grade of 9 out of 10 for addictviness.

As for the depth of the game, there are a bunch of drivers to choose from and there are a bunch of maps that you can battle on. Each map is huge with so many individual locations within each map and there are a bunch of hidden locations as well that offer mini games and bonuses. There is a lot to do in this game and overall for depth, I give this game an 8 out of 10.

The game is easy to do, all you have to do is drive and shoot and there is really nothing more to learn. Once you start, you might die once or twice before you get the hang of the game, and then you will be a pro. As for the difficulty, I give this game a 5.

Overall, this was a really good handheld game for the PSP and I would recommend it for those of you who still have PSP’s. My overall grade for this game is going to be an even 9.
