Mega Man Take 10
My favorite video game series is Mega Man. Mega Man is often ranked in the top 5 of iconic video game characters. As such several Mega Man games have been made. Mega Man 10 was made after the huge success of Mega Man 9. Now, I did not get this game when it came out. I did not have the video game systems this game was made for. But hey, that is what friends are for. I played this game with a little help from my friends. So lets get started in reviewing another Mega Man game. 


Story: 10 

Mega Man 10 has different stories depending on if you download and play as Bass. Mega Man and Proto Man's story is the same. One day all seems peaceful when suddenly Mega Man and Proto Man's sister Roll falls sick. Roll comes down with a virus that really impacts the robots. A few months later an outbreak of Robenza occurs. Some of the robots start going berserk and are bent on world destruction. Dr Wily comes to the lab and claims he has invented a cure and medicine making machine, but the wild robots stole it.  What is Robenza, how was the virus created, and is Dr. Wily telling the truth? Mega Man and Proto man head out to save their sister, get the medicine back and to get the answer to all these questions.  

Bass's Story is different if you download and play as Bass. In Bass's Story the robots become infected with Robenza and they revolt. Bass sets out to prove that he is the strongest robot by defeating these infected robots. But Bass also has questions who is responsible for this and why? Bass sets out in typical Bass fashion to prove he is the greatest. 

Okay, There is a lot going on in this story. I will say this is probably one of the better story lines in Mega Man games since Mega Man 7. Yes, I think this story is better than Mega Man 9. I like the idea of having two plots depending on the characters. Having two plots matches the characters well. Mega Man and Proto Man are heading out because they have strong senses of justices. Bass, has his own goals. Moreover, having a Robot Virus offers something new than the typical Wily is back story line. I mean Dr. Wily attempts is what has made the series great. I also like how you do not get a plot twist till halfway through the game. Having a plot twist later in the game adds suspense and creates mystery. Overall, I give the story a perfect 10 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls 9  

Like the previous Mega Man game, Mega Man 9, 10 uses 8 byte style graphics. It carries the same style as the Nintendo Mega Man games. The graphics in this game are amazing it reminded me so much of Mega Man 3 and 4. Those two games had some of the best graphics for the 8 byte era. I really like the colors and how they fit the stage themes very well. The stage layouts were also nicely done. In addition, the sprites are so awesome. It really does not matter who you play as the graphics remain unchanged.  I did not feel like this game had any lags in it at all. Mega Man 9 had a few minor lags but not this game. 

The controls are very good. I would argue for Mega Man the controls are smooth just like they were in Mega Man 4. Not one time does it seem like I was fighting with the controls. Also it does not feel like the controls suddenly change speeds on you. Controlling Proto Man I found the controls to be the same as Mega Man nice and smooth. So why do I not give the graphics and controls a 10 out of 10? Well the answer lies in Bass's controls. Bass's controls sometimes feel a little stiff. It felt like the controls got a little stiff when trying to climb or jump. I do not know if that is because Bass is unlocked in this game by extra download? Basically what I am trying to say is I wonder if that is because Bass was added to this game. Still, the graphics and controls are awesome overall. 

Sound: 10 

Mega Man games are infamous for their quality of sound. Mega Man 10 keeps that tradition. The music in this game is awesome the tunes fit the stages nicely. The winter stage is slow and makes you think of a winter day.  The sports stage makes you think of stadium music. The car stage is faced paced. The music like most Mega Man games will make you pause and listen or do nothing. Your character's shots have a nice sound to let yo know your shots are connecting and doing damage. The enemies have their own sounds to let you know they mean business. The other sounds in the game are nicely done as well. Thus, I give the sound a 10 out of 10. 

Replay Value: 10 

I really had fun playing this game and I find myself playing this one when I can more than 9. 9 was a fun game to play as well. But I enjoy this one more for a few reasons. The sounds are slightly better for starters. 9, had a good soundtrack  but this one has the edge. The graphics are fun and the stages are fun to play through. I really also find the plot to add replay value to this game as well. There are also different challenges and puzzles to unlock making you come back for more. I give the replay value a 10 

Depth 10 

like most Mega Man games 10 has a lot of depth. Mega Man games are known for their depth. This game in particular has more depth than 9. First of all, there are lots of items to collect, secrets to find and power ups to find as well. Also the shops are back so be sure to collect bolts. In addition, the stages are long in this game and getting to the halfway mark takes a while. This is a game you will not be able to blow through. Another great thing is you can unlock challenges in this game. Each challenge is different making you play through the stage or fight the bosses again. There is even a way you can fight the bosses from the Gave Boy games . It is also fun to play through the game as a different character. I played the game with the different characters Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass. My friends unlocked Bass so that is how I got to play through as him. This game has a huge amount of depth so 10 out of 10 is about right 

Difficulty: 7 

The difficulty in this game is complex. The difficulty depends on what character you play through the game as. Mega Man and Proto Man are the default characters their difficulty is the same.  This game has its tough sports and difficult moments. But it is not the most difficult Mega Man game. I actually found Mega Man 10 to be easier than Mega Man 8 or 9. 

Some of the bosses are difficult and actually gave me some trouble. These bosses are hard to hit with their weakness. Also there are plenty of spikes and pits in this game. Hey, it would not be a Mega Man game without pits and spikes. The enemies in this game like to sneak up on you or gang up on you. Also, some of them are placed in difficult spots. Just like Mega Man 1, 2, and 9 you cannot slide so that adds some difficulty. 

On the other hand, the game helps you out a lot. A lot of items can be purchases at the shop by collecting bolts. Enemies are generous about dropping bolts so use that to your advantage. Need an extra life well the game gives you a lot of ways to get them. Need to clear out a lot of enemies well there are weapons that clear out a lot of enemies at once. 

Now Bass gets his own difficulty. If you were to play as Bass the difficulty drops to a 6. The main reason is Bass can fire in different directions with his buster. He can fire any direction so that comes in handy. Also Bass has a rapid fire machine gun like buster. Bass's controls are a little stiff but it does not really impact his difficulty that much. Getting rapid fire and getting to fire in any direction brings Bass's rating down slightly. 

Overall 9.4 

Capcom knew what they were doing when they made Mega Man 10. This game has got so much going for it; I do not know where to begin. First of all this was one of the better Mega Man games since Mega Man 7. 8 and 9 were very good games but had a few minor flaws in them mostly Mega Man 8. I also like the 8 byte style. In my opinion it is a way to introduce younger and newer gamers to the classic Mega Man style that made the series so popular. 

The story is very good in this game. It offered something new to the series for sure. In a way it also loosely ties the classic series with the X series. Even though in cannon the X series takes place long after the classic series. I am not going to tell you what the connection is. Just play the game and get to the halfway point and you will see what I am talking about. I like the suspense and mystery in the story as well. The sounds were nicely done. Moreover, I really like the amount of depth Capcom put in this game. Getting a chance to play through the game with 3 different characters is a huge bonus. Also getting to unlock several challenges makes one to want to come back for more. I can tell Capcom took a lot of time in developing this game. 

The negatives in this game are very minor. In fact they are probably not really noticeable. The main negative I have is Bass controls are a little stiff.  There are a few spots were it seems like his controls are a little bit off. But do not worry it does not really effect the difficulty when playing as Bass.  I wonder if Bass having stiff controls comes from the fact he is an unlock able character.  From what I have understood is the original game just had Mega Man and Proto Man as the characters the player could chose from. But  Capcom released a new downloaded version that you could get and play as Bass. So maybe that is why his controls are stiff.  Second the difficulty goes down a little while playing as Bass. To some that is not a big deal and it really isn't. Bass for the most part has always had his rapid fire machine gun and how he can shoot in any direction. But it seems like sometimes the stages are better designed for him. I would have added more enemies to accommodate Bass's buster. Again though minor negative. 

At the end of the day I give Mega Man 10 a very solid 9.4. This game reminds me so much of Mega Man 3 and 4 especially 4. I was glad to see Capcom return to the old roots. I did not want to put this game down. In fact, if I were to buy a gaming system so I could play just one game; this game would be the one. That is how awesome and groovy this game is. The negatives in this game are very minor. Would I recommend this game? Yes this game is fun for all ages from the young to the old. Also this would be a great game to introduce younger gamers or somebody who is new to Mega Man too. The difficulty is not frustrating difficult like some of the other Mega Man games are. You will enjoy this game
