Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online Review by: lolid23 - 8.8/10

''Don't get cocky!''
Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is one of the most recent spin-offs in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, once again, it's a game developed by Tamsoft, and it's, of course, a game with some fan service. Unlike other games in the franchise, you can really move the camera to see the underwear most characters are wearing, which is something that will be both appreciated and hated, I mean, if you use certain outfits, even Rom is wearing underwear and you can see it if you manipulate the camera. The low camera angle is actually referenced in an optional event in the form of suggestive dialogue (''Is this very low-angle camera a function made for panty sommeliers?''), of course, there are several examples of suggestive dialogue in the game, and for a Neptunia game, that is to be expected. Anyway, let's begin.

Story: Cyberdimension Neptunia doesn't have the best story of all time, but still, I like it, the interesting thing about the game is that the game itself, Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is a game that Neptune and the rest of the CPUs are playing, including their sisters. None of the characters are in real danger because, even in the Hyperdimension Neptunia universe, it's just a game that the characters are playing, they didn't save Gamindustri for this game. Neptune and many other characters received the opportunity to play a new MMO still in beta, many people got the opportunity to play 4 Goddesses Online as beta testers, and they took it, the game itself has a story, a world named Alsgard was created by the 4 Goddesses, Purple Heart, White Heart, Black Heart, and Green Heart, in the world of Alsgard resides Leanverde, also known as the Tree of Life, Leanverde is the source of Alsgard's magical power, ''1000 years ago, the Goddesses sealed away an invader from the Demon Realm called the Demon King Jester. He attemped to steal Leanverde's magic but was defeated.'' The Goddesses had to leave Alsgard as a result of the battle, but they also created the Sacred Treasures, ''in which their remaining power was bestowed.'' The world of Alsgard is in danger once again because the Demon King Jester will resurrect soon, the Sacred Treasures must be gathered to revive the Goddesses, the Demon King Jester must also be defeated once again. The story is so fantasy oriented that I can't help but like it, and it helps that it's also a bit more than that, especially because of two specific players, Kiria and † Black Cat Princess †, those two characters are, more or less, antagonists of Cyberdimension Neptunia, and the fact that Neptune and company face some...problems because of those two characters is appreciated, and of course, there is also another character...the Mastermind...overall, it's a story that I like.

Graphics: This is one of the best looking games in the franchise, Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online was developed with Unreal Engine 4, and it shows, the game looks better than Gal*Gun 2, which was also developed with Unreal Engine 4, it looks so amazing, that my dad briefly confused the game with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during a session. Perhaps the 3D models looked better than ever when this game was released, this game was released before Megadimension Neptunia VIIR after all, looking at Cyberdimension Neptunia however, I'd say that the game might be on par with Megadimension Neptunia VIIR when it comes to graphics, at best...it looks even better than Megadimension Neptunia VIIR, I'm not sure. Beautiful environments, really nice textures, amazing 3D models...it looks great, and Tsunako's art looks beautiful as always, Tsunako draws in an amazing art style in my opinion, and her style is definitely one of my favorite art styles of all time, Tsunako is on par with George Kamitani and Mel Kishida in my opinion...yes, when it comes to art style in anime style games, those 3 artists draw in my favorite styles of all time, I don't know if Tsunako's art is a case of ''I like this more than I should'', because let's be honest, other artists really know how to draw, but still, I love Tsunako's style and the (sometimes suggestive) CG images of Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online. Death end re;Quest also looks great, sure, but Tsunako's style is part of the reason why I give this category a 9 in the case of this game, unlike Death end re;Quest.

Sound: I don't know if I'm being too generous with this category or not, but the more I listen to the soundtrack of Cyberdimension Neptunia, the more I like it, I like some themes more than I thought, and overall, it's an amazing soundtrack at times, it's even better when we consider that
every theme was composed specifically for Cyberdimension Neptunia, and for a game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, that's something big, the Hyperdimension Neptunia games have a reputation of reusing several songs used in previous games, which is something I hate a little, well...not this game. The music is fitting for the game and it's amazing sometimes, ''A Distant Journey'' is a very relaxing theme used during the loading screen and it's also used for a few maps, ''Cheetah's Revenge'' is an epic theme that also sounds dramatic, ''Gamindustri's Enemy'' is an intense metal song and a huge contrast with the rest of the soundtrack, which is nice, ''Neptune a Gogo!'' is used in the last map before the final boss, and it's a catchy tune, more or less fitting for the final area, ''Picon de Metafiction'' is a great opening song, it really sounds like a fantasy game and it's different from other opening songs in the franchise...it's a great soundtrack. The English voice acting is pretty good, with the typical roles for a game in this franchise, for the most part, unlike previous games, Noire is voiced by Erica Mendez and not Erin Fitzgerald, but compared with previous games, Noire in Cyberdimension Neptunia sounds as good if not better, and then we have other characters...Nepgear is voiced by Christine Marie Cabanos, and Neptune is voiced by Melissa Fahn, as always. Melissa Fahn does an amazing job as Neptune, she is one of my favorite voice actresses, her voice is so fitting for the character and it's obvious that she has fun voicing Neptune, overall, it's another game with a great cast and great voice acting.

Addictiveness: I have obtained almost every trophy of Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online, the game is an action RPG with simple combat, despite that, the game is very addictive in my opinion. for every playable character you literally only have one button (square button) for normal attacks, there are also special skills that require SP to be used, some skills are more powerful than others, also, normal attacks and some items can be used to recover SP, as you attack enemies and bosses, a gauge fills up, when it reaches a certain point, a number will appear on the left of the screen (1), you can, if you want, press the left stick to activate ''Awakening'', during Awakening, the power of skills temporarily increases but also, Awakening will cause the SP gauge to replenish at a rapid rate, if you prefer, you can also wait until the number of the Awakening Gauge increases, if it's 3, for example, not only Awakening lasts longer, you can also use Awakening Skills, which are powerful skills that are learned later in the game. You can switch with another character at any time, and even though the interface might not be the best, the ability to switch with another character in an area is nice. To access special skills, you press and hold the L1 button, there you can press one of the four buttons with specific assigned skills, when you get more powerful skills, you can replace older skills in Skill Set, and assign the new skills to one of the four buttons (triangle, x, circle, and square), there are two skill sheets available. I always prefer combat in real time, and Cyberdimension Neptunia is one of my favorite Neptunia games.

Depth: The game is shorter than others and perhaps it doesn't offer much, I have played this game for less than 80 hours and even so, I have obtained almost every trophy, as I said. You can play Online, something I've never done with this game (overall, I rarely play video games online), still, as a single player game...not bad.

Difficulty: This is one of the easiest games in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, it's true, I lost a few times, but that said, Cyberdimension Neptunia is, overall, an easy game, at times...very easy, for people who have never played an action RPG before, this game is a great choice.

I can easily recommend this game if you have never played an action RPG before, Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online is a great game for newcomers to the genre and also, of course, Hyperdimension Neptunia fans, if you are a Hyperdimension Neptunia fan like me and haven't played Cyberdimension Neptunia yet, I recommend it, it's an amazing game with good gameplay, amazing music, funny moments, and beautiful graphics.
