Mirror's Edge Featured Review

Mirror's Edge Review by: darthyoda - 9.6/10

Edge of the Mirror
Have you ever wanted to run, and run, then jump off of a 20 story building? Okay, maybe that wasn't your lifetime dream, but this is one of the things you get to do. Mirror's Edge is a game developed by DICE Studios using the Frostbyte engine. (I love DICE devolved games!) This engine creates great looks, effects, and whatever it takes to make a good game. You are a Runner, in a heavily monitored future... You are the one who takes the information, to those who pay the highest, but make no mistake the "Blues" are on your backs. (The "Blues" are the Police.)

Graphics: The Graphics are amazing. If you have seen any screenshots, you should know what I'm talking about. The style is unique, but not bad. I love the way they incorperated bright colors and many great designs! The buildings are very bright, and the backgrounds (places you can't reach) are just as good as the stuff up close. I really have been amazed at every DICE game, because of their detail, they are becoming my favorite developers. If you haven't played it, you won't know, but I can't say how awesome, just get the game!
The game has GREAT graphics, I really loved every piece they made! I give it a 10/10.

Sound: The sound isn't much, you have occaisional gunfire, rare voices, and a few helicopters. You do have good voice acting, but you really don't hear much, it seems. I like that the game gives you time to think about the best path, because you really can go multiple ways. That's what makes it good. The sound is good, but really I can't say that anything stuck out to me. The voice acting standard is really high with many games now days.
I give it a 9/10, but really the sound isn't much. (You don't have excessive music or anything like that.)

Addictiveness: I really got into the game. It's fun, because I have been wanting it for a while. The game is really good, because of the story, the graphics, the difficulty, and mostly because of it's gameplay. The game is really unique in the Parkour style games out there. This one focuses on realistic and great movement and all of that. This makes the game more addicting. Realism is one really important feature in a game. It can be unrealistic, but if it loses the real feal, it's no longer addictive to me. I won't say much more here, but I think you get the picture.
The game is REALLY great. The addictiveness of this game is no different. I give it a 9/10.

Story: The game has great story. You are Fayth (Faith, I really don't know how it's spelled...) a runner, in a future where information is really restricted. This means, you are always running from the Blues. You need to clear your sister from the murder of a notable towns-person! Hurry and get to the bottom of this mystery! I would give more, but really that would be giving too much away. The story is good. It seems average, but really they did a good job of presenting it, and I really love the game, which makes the story that much better!
I give it a 10/10. The story is one of the best parts!

Gameplay/ Controls: You should know that this game needs to be smooth to work. If it had lag or any issues, you wouldn't be able to play it effectively. Some of the controls need some getting used to, but it's easy to learn them. Each feature that is important, gets explained in the needed detail. You can run walls, and do long jumps, but this wouldn't be possible without good controls. You really couldn't improve this much, because it was done with great planning! This game has the smoothest controls in a game, no lag, no issues, no remapping controls. It was so easy to get used to, that you don't really need to change. The disarming can be hard, but that is just timing. Not control. Shooting isn't really what you are supposed to do, so there is no aim (scope) in this.
The game is smooth and great. I give it a 10/10.

Depth: The game has so much to do. The campaign, challenge, and even a multiplayer thing. (I didn't check it out though.) On multiple levels, there are multiple paths, even though they strongly hint at the best path. That doesn't make it less challenging though. It can get hard, but that will be discussed later. You have much to do, and in-game you have variety. Really there isn't any more to add. This game is just good!
The game has good depth, and for that reason I give it a 9/10.

Difficulty: The game has its hard parts. Each time you encounter Blues in numbers it's REALLY hard. You have to pick them off one at a time. This is especially challenging, because they get harder and harder to take down. You are forced to learn the perfect counters or just learn to run away. But running from Blues isn't the only hard part. Each level requires precise jumps. You can't miss, otherwise you plummet to your death. (The sounds there are really painful... I cringed every time.) The game isn't too hard, but it is still hard!
I really found that it was hard, but not too hard. I give it an 8/10.

Overall: The game is AWESOME! It's one of the most underrated games ever. But it wasn't because of it's graphics, it was drown out by games that were popular or anticipated. The game is really awesome. It couldn't have been made much better. Many people has since come to love the game, but at it's release it wasn't really heard of. This game deserves its 9.6/10!
