its that time, half-life opposing force time!hello, and welcome to my review of half-life opposing force. i will pick this game apart and rate it as it deserves. remember to enjoy, and like this post if you enjoyed the review! here we go.
Graphics: 5/10 the graphics for this game, they were GREAT at the time. they are not anymore. the textures are... kinda rough. and the walls and heads of people and stuff like that are kind of jagged, the edges of the things. but a game does not need good graphics to be a good game, am i right? zork was a masterpiece, and it had ABSOLUTELY NO GRAPHICS! IT WAS A TEXT GAME! think about that. :P
sound: 10/10 this game has some great sound effects. it very much improves upon the original game, with almost double what the original game had to offer. the gunshots, the music at points to get you pumped while you were running away from stuff, and the atmosphere during dark lonely parts of the game, where monsters will teleport in and SCREAM and jump at you, and you will wet your pants, and scream. the sound is pretty great. and the ambience was pretty good, somehow. i cannot put a finger on why i like the ambient sounds.
addictiveness: 6/10 this game is not very addictive. you will probably play in through once, twice, then you will get bored. but what a great play through it will be! but a game where it is not very likely that you will play through it again, so i rated this kind of low.
story: 10/10 this game has a wonderful story. basically, it takes place in the same place that the first half-life took place in. but you are part of the army guys you have to kill in the first game. you are ordered to "clean up" black mesa, because the black mesa incident is the kind of thing that the us military wants to keep hush-hush. so yeah, they are not happy that that happened. so you go around with your squad mates, killing any scientist you see. and the ending is so great! i am not going to tell it though, because that would kinda ruin it.
depth: 8/10 improving on the original half-life formula, with more levels, more guns, and a special tactical approach, kinda. you can talk to your squad mates, and one of them is a heavy guns guy, and he does crown control. and another is a technician. he has a blowtorch that can cut through walls, etc. but yes, this game is very much more deeper than the original half-life game, with a wrench replacing the crowbar, with a secondary attack that takes time to do, but kills, smashes any enemy, almost. and a tactical knife! it is so cool! i really like it, for some reason, even though the wrench is better. but the knife slices much faster. and now you get a sniper rifle. it
replaces the crossbow. and now you have a portable barnacle, this monster you carry around and it has this really sticky tongue, and normally it is stuck on a wall, hence the name barnacle, with its tongue hanging out. but it sticks its tongue out and you can shoot it at people, and it slowly reels them in, and gorily eats them, i am fairly sure. and you have this desert eagle pistol, that has a laser pointer you can turn on to make it more accurate, and it kind of
replaces the .357 magnum from the other game, but it is the first firearm you get, kind of making it
replace the pistol.
difficulty: 7/10 this game can be very difficult. i remember one time i was at this really hard part, and i had not saved in a while, and i died, and i threw my keyboard at the wall. luckily i did not break it. but at some points, there will be a lot of enemies at once, and you will run out of bullets, and you WILL DIE! SAVE OFTEN! this game is INCREDIBLY hard. expect a lot of trial and error.
overall: 8/10 this game is a great addition to any steam library, at five dollars. this game is a straight masterpiece. and i highly recommend you go out and buy this game. i hope my review has properly informed you and convinced you to get this game. have a nice day, and remember, PUNCH IT FROST!
