Ratchet: Deadlocked Featured Review

Ratchet: Deadlocked Review by: Spacey Sul - 8.3/10

Dreadzone'd
Introduction: Hello, and welcome to my review of Ratchet Deadlocked. This Ratchet and Clank game is the fourth installment, and final at that, of the ones before Ratchet and Clank Future. It features Ratchet the Lombax, Clank the Robot, and Al the "Computer-nerd". The story involves them being forced to compete in a gladiator-like show, called Dreadzone. They are faced with many challenges, some easy, and some more difficult. More shall be said as the review commences.

Difficulty: I have not played all the difficulties, only the "Couch Potato" rank, which is why this is the lowest. I like how it offers 5 different difficulties, the harder the level, the less ammo, range, and damage you do, how much health you have, and how accurate your enemies are. . The ranks, from easiest to hardest, are as follows:Couch Potato. Contestant, Gladiator, Hero, and Exterminator. Like I said, this has the lowest rating, a 7, since I only played and beat the "Couch Potato" rank.

Graphics: The graphics were okay, all things considered. They could've down better, that I am sure of. To me, the graphics seemed a bit blurry, and didn't have as much shading as I believe it could've have. Other than that, it was pretty good. The colors flowed nicely, and the shading was okay, but not the best. A lot of the effects, from what I remember, were really good, and the characters and enemies had great designs, in my opinion. So, Graphics gets an 8.

Sound: I liked the sound, but it wasn't "The best sounds in the world". Some of the music might've gone better in different situations, to me at least. Some of the sounds got annoying after a while as well. But, the soundtrack was great overall, and they picked great people to voice the characters. I like how they tried to make sure every single thing had a sound, which was pretty cool in my opinion, since some games are lax when it comes to sounds. So, sound also gets an 8.

Depth: This game had a fairly nice amount of depth. It had a nice amount of levels, which were mostly divided into roughly 4 or 5 parts, with about 10 total worlds each from what I remember. Each level also had a set of challenges, which you pretty much had to complete to move on to the next level. And I'd like to believe that trying them in each difficulty would feel different, and make you have more of a sense of pride. You also can unlock "cheats" and silly things like that if you keep playing. You can also max out your weapons, and from what I remember when I replayed it a bit, when you replay it you get to buy weapons not available the first go round. So, Depth has earned a 9.

Addictiveness: To me, this game is fairly addictive. I know that for some, replaying a game once you finish might be boring, since you already know what is going to happen. To me, I just love to play it and see it all again, to keep it fresh on my mind. Games like these might not be made to replay to some, but to me this one is an exception. It does have moments that I do not wish to replay though, so for that I give it a 9.

Story: The story for this game is possibly my most favorite story for any game yet. I do not wish to spoil anything, in case you do wish to play this game. So, I will give a brief summary: The trio I mentioned in the introduction are abducted by robots, who are made to capture new "contestants" for Dreadzone. They are forced to compete against people called "Exterminators", to defeat the game and get to the final boss. I do not believe I can say more, without revealing something major about the plot. Either way, the story gets a 9.

Mathematical Score: 8.3
Personal Score: 9

This game is one of my all-time favorites, and probably will always been an all-time favorite of mines. I definitely recommend you try this game,  because to me this is one of the best games I've played, and definitely will replay for as long as the game disk works, and for as long as my PS2 works!
