A Park to RememberEarlier, I made a review saying that Thrillville was my 2nd most favorite theme park game, and it just so happens that this one is my favorite. I would have to say that this would be one of my 5 most favorite PSX games of all time because when I was young, I used to play it all the time. I "Beat" the game multile times, and I would always have a blast, because this is one of my favorite genres.
GRAPHICS 8/10
The graphics are pretty good, especially considering how old it is and what system the game is for. The game was released in 2000, and the graphics were a huge step above those of the prequel, the original Theme Park. Everything is pretty detailed when it comes to the shops, rides, and other attractions, and there's all sort of color to give the game life. Each park found in the game is crafted to fit the game and looks really good. My overall grade for this aspect is going to be an 8 out of 10.
SOUND 10/10
Now the music would probably be my 2nd most favorite feature of the game behind the actual game play because there's all sorts of sounds in the game, most of which has been stuck in my head for years. When it comes to music, there's music all around, and my favorite would have to be the the song from the main menu, and the first song that you hear when opening your park. Both of these songs are very catchy in my opinion, and right now after so many years of not playing the game, I could probably hum it right now. Of course, there's a lot more than just music, there's a little bomb like being that talks to you and gives advice, and there's various noises from screams and vomiting riders, to explosions from rides breaking down. My grade for this section will be a perfect 10 out of 10.
ADDICTIVENESS 9/10
These kinds of games can be very addicting until you run out of space in your park to build new stuff. One of the best features of this game, is that you get tickets for completing goals and with those, you can unlike new parks. I don't remember how many different parks there are in the game, but I believe that it's somewhere around 4 to 6. Because of this, all you have to do is finish one park and go straight to work on the next one, so it's going to be a while until you actually fill up all of the parks, so this is the kind of game that can keep you busy for a very long time. Because of this, I am going to give the addictiveness factor a rating of 9 out of 10.
Story 7/10
Well, there isn't much of a story to this game, and whatever is there, is very simple. All you do is start off with a park and you build whatever you want while making sure that you don't go bankrupt and that the people visiting the park are kept happy. Once you reach certain goals of a park for reaching certain level of money, happiness, or other tasks, you receive tickets. These tickets can be used to open up other parks. If you want to fully "beat" the game, you won't have to just fill up every park, but you will have to get all the tickets as well, which means that even once you have opened up every park, there still may be a few goals that you have to reach in the previous parks. As I said, nothing really big when it comes to the story, so I am going to give it a grade of 7 out of 10.
DEPTH 9/10
Just the fact that this game has more than 1 park is enough to give this game a good depth rating. The original game which was only made 6 years before this one only featured one park, while this one features way more than just one. Not only does it feature so many parks, but each park is actually quite big and offers a lot to do inside of each park. Each park features different shapes, terrains, and obstacles where you can't build, but each one offers so much space, that even with the large assortment of stuff to build, you might end up having to build the same ride in 3 different places just to completely fill up your park. It's a big game, and I am going to give this aspect of the game a 9 out of 10.
DIFFICULTY 3
The game is not hard at all, and the only sense of difficulty comes from reaching the goals that are needed to get tickets. Other than that, the games a piece of cake. Each park, aside from the goals for tickets don't restrict you in what you do or build, you can build your park however you want, and most of the time whatever you build will work out fine as long as you don't go bankrupt. If you find a point where you can't do something, just wait until you have more money, sell some stuff, or just retry, there's virtually no difficulty in this game, and because of that, I give the difficulty a rating of 3.
OVERALL 9/10
This is a great game, and it's my favorite park building game for a reason, multiple reasons actually. Sure, it could just be the nostalgia, but there are also so many good features and qualities of the game, that I'm pretty sure that if I was given the game for the first time, I would at least enjoy it. Overall, I am going to recommend this game because for some, it can be a lot of fun. If you have played any of the Thrillville games, or Roller Coaster Tycoon, or any other games in this genre, I'm pretty sure that you are going to like it, and that's why I suggest it, because it appeals to more than just fans of the genre. My overall grade for this game is going to be a 9 out of 10.
