Hang on and Safari Hunt

Hang on and Safari Hunt was the U.S. lauch title for the Sega Master System in June 1986. Hang on and Safari Hunt is a compilation cart which means that it has mutable games on one cart, in this case it is two games.

                                                                                                        Hang On
(Overall) Hang On was originally an arcade game realest by Sega in 1985. The arcade version was the first arcade game to use 16 bit graphics. Hang On has been ported to several different video game consoles and home computers. This is a very good game to introduce yourself to the Sega Master System and can stand toe to toe with any racing game on the more popular Nintendo Entertainment System. In this game you have to shift gears to speed up or slow down.

(Graphics) This game has beautiful 8 bit graphics! Take a look at Rad Racer on the NES and Hang On and you will see what I mean. Each check point looks different staring with the first part, which is just a very generic green grass and black and white road, when you get to the second check point the grass starts turning into a desert, after you get past the desert you find yourself in the big city at night, which is like eye candy, after that is the last stretch of the game, another desert, but it looks very different from the previous desert. Over all the graphics are just plan awesome and very nice to look at.

(Sound) When you are on the start menu you get a good little song but after that I don't think there is any music. The sound of the motorcycle is as realistic as it could be for an 8 bit game. There's really not much to say about this game as fare as music goes.

(Addictiveness) This isn't the game I play the most when I pop in this cart. The game is pretty fun but not one I play over and over. If you like to race this is the perfect classic for you and you will probably play it a lot.

(Story) If there is a story I don't know what it is. I do not have the instruction manual for this game so I may just not know the story, but it isn't apparent in the game so I'm just going with no story.

(Depth) This is not a long game, there are only four check points so if you are good at racing games it should be a breeze. If you stink at racing games like I do you may never beat the game.

(Difficulty) Hang On isn't to hard if you are good at games like this. You have a time limit to get to each check point. You better not run into any other motorcycles or run off the track because you will crash! This game is not unbeatable by any means.

   Safari Hunt
(Overall) Safari Hunt is a light gun game and a very good one at that. Dust off you Master System Light Phaser and get ready for an exotic hunting trip! Safari Hunt was Sega's answer to Nintendo's Duck Hunt and let me tell you, they got the right answer. Safari hunt is so much better than Duck Hunt its not even funny. To go to the next level you have to shoot enough animals to get the point requirements which go up each level. You have a lot of bullets and no dumb dog to laugh at you if you miss so lets get cocked and loaded and shoot some stuff!

(Graphics) I hate to keep bringing up Duck Hunt but really compare them, go ahead ill wait on you........... Now that you have seen both games you can clearly see that Safari Hunt is fare superior. Each level looks different with different animals to kill. There is only three levels that cycle over and over. The first level is a lovely pond, with ducks and bunnies and fish that you just blow away, so relaxing, the next level is a heavily wooded area with birds, armadillos,  and bears, the third and last is creepy wooded area with spiders, bats, and black cats. Over all the graphics are clean and colorful.

(Sound) All I really have to say about the music is WOW! Awesome music, very catchy. So turn the volume up and lets jam to some Safari Hunt!

(Addictiveness) On this cart this is the game I play the most. I keep trying to beat my high score or play with friends to see who can get the highest score. This is a very fun light gun game! This is one I think you will want to play pretty often.

(Story) Yet again I don't have the manual so if there is a story I don't know it. For me a game like this don't need a story, you just shoot man!

(Depth) There is only three levels but if I'm not mistaken the three levels cycle over and over so its pretty much endless. This game could use more levels put I can look over it because it is a fun game.

(Difficulty) This game is as hard or as easy as you want it to be. Its a light gun game, if you want it to be more challenging stand back from your TV, if you want it to be like nothing put the gun up against the TV. You have to kill enough animals to reach the point requirements to keep playing, also the longer you play the faster your targets move.

Hang-On & Safari Hunt Game Description

HANG ON is the 3D motorcycle race game that's taken the arcades by storm. Race through grasslands, seasides, valleys, nighttime city scapes and, of course, motorcycle racecourses. This game is so fast it even gives you special racing techniques like Hang On and Countersteering for taking the corners. SAFARI HUNT is the most complete jungle game ever created. Scramble through thick forests. Jump over gulping bogs. And watch out for the alligators. Because they're watching out for you.

I have fond memories of playing this game, too bad I can't play Safari Hunt, it seems that playing the light phaser games aren't possible on emulators
