Bug Blitz Review by: Singelli - 1/10

A Virus of a Game
OVERALL RATING: 1/10

This is probably the first game in which I must advise all players not even to waste their time opening it up and allowing it to load.  In fact, the only reason I rated it a 1 as opposed to a 0 is simply because... it's something to do.  However, I'd rather do nothing, than to play this game.

GRAPHICS (1/10):
Shabby.  This word pretty much sums it all up.  You play a little jet which is very unimaginatively designed.  Pushing the little gray blob across the screen, your job is to fly around and shoot..... other little blobs.  The map is a messy maze with a blue background and pink walls.  If you ignore the horribly clashing colors, you still won't likely get past the small black, yellow, and purple dots that cling to the walls.  Though the instructions tell you how many 'bugs' to kill, it's quite unclear what actually constitutes as a 'bug'.  In this case, what is a virus supposed to look like anyways?  There are no humorous amoeba shapes... no fiendish faces to add comedy... Absolutely nothing struck me as something which was dangerous and needed to be destroyed.

In addition to all of this, your bullet consists of a plain white dash and can never be upgraded.  When you shoot something, it explodes by flashing a small circle of dots and then disappearing.  The ship never appears diagonal. If you turn into perpendicular cardinal directions, your ship simply flashes into the other direction instead of turning into it.

I'm not impressed in the slightest and could hardly bare to look at the screen.

SOUND (1/10):
The sound was just as abhorrent as the graphics.  The music sounds like a bunch of scratches being made with fingernails on a vinyl surface, only that would be more impressive. There's no beat.  It's not catchy, and it sounds like a bunch of random, computer generated noises.  It was torture to listen to.

The only other sound in the entire game is that of your bullet being shot.  Perhaps not at all against my expectations, the gun shot sound is a little "tif!" sound.  It never varies and is hardly noticeable.

Part of what I find humorous (and that is -not- a compliment) is that there are sounds for bullets being shot, and yet all explosions are unaccompanied with their own noise.  Silent explosions? What's the point in blowing things up if you can't hear a loud boom?  I wanted to mail the developers and beg them to offer me something else to listen to during game play.

ADDICTIVENESS (1/10):
I would never play this game again.  Period.  I played it for about fifteen minutes before I couldn't just take it anymore.  I then watched a few videos of recorded game play and became satisfied that I was not missing a thing.

STORY (1/10):
You fly a ship which shoots at dots that are supposedly viruses.
Creative?  Believable?  Interesting?
I'd rate this a 0 if I could.  If I'm going to shoot viruses, I should at least know which little ugly dots or squares are viruses.

DEPTH (1/10):
Have you -read- the rest of my review?

DIFFICULTY (6/10):
I rated this so high for the sheer fact that I could -not- progress past the first level (I'm assuming there are more than one). Even watching all the videos I could find, I did not see a single person play another level.   The first level tells you that you must destroy 10 bugs and yet it fails to tell you which pixels form bugs.  I flew around for 15 minutes shooting everything that would explode, and the stage never ended.  I flew around the large map to see if there was an exit, and I could not find one.

The things you can blow up with your white dash?  Well they don't even move. This means you simply fly around and shoot stationary dots.  There's no time limit, they don't fight back, and you have unlimited ammo.  If you run into a wall, you loose a life, but this seems to be the only thread in the game.

I read that there are electrical bolts which can sometimes destroy your ship and take a life.  The only thing I saw which could be considered electrical currents were black diagonal lines that flashed into and out of existence. I ran over them and into them time and time again... and nothing happened.  I progressed as happy (or unhappy) as I could be.

One horribly annoying feature of the game is in ship control.  If you travel right for awhile and want to turn your ship down for example, your ship will be aligned right while moving downwards for several seconds.  Only after that awkward moment will your ship suddenly turn around and face downwards. Every time you swap directions, you face the same situation: your ship takes several seconds to actually turn around.

So there you have it: my shortest review ever.  This game simply wasn't worth the effort of writing anything more, and it's even less worth your time.  If you have nothing to do, don't look to this game for the solution.
