Mega Man for Game Boy   tornadocam
It is the very first Mega Man title for Game Boy. Mega Man I known as Dr. Wily's Revenge.
Plot (Story line) 6
Mega Man has stopped Dr. Wily once again from his plans of conquering the world. Dr. Wily is mad that his plans have been ruined once again. Dr. Wily builds a new fortress and sends 8 robot masters after Mega Man and to try to conquer the world. In the meantime Dr. Wily has also created a new robot named Enker. Enker's main goal is to kill Mega Man. Mega Man sets out to stop Dr. Wily and save the world again. However, he must deal with Enker.
Okay, this is a basic revenge plot. While introducing Enker was nice and the game did a good job introducing him as a new boss. The plot just seemed to be lacking creativity. I really felt like instead of introducing something new the makers of this game (Capcom) recycled Mega Man 2's plot from the Nintendo Entertainment system. It just seemed like they reused it.  I was expecting much more. Despite the negatives the plot did accomplish its goal. We learn why Dr. Wily is sending is robot masters out. We also learn why he created a Mega Man killer. The plot is simple so its not complicated. I was just expecting more. I give the plot a decent score of 6/10.
Graphics & Controls 7
The graphics in this game were decent in this game. I really liked the last stages' space background. The way the planets are in the background and how the stars flicker was a nice touch. I also liked some of the boss stages as well. However, there were some problems in the graphics. Some of the stages looked a little fuzzy to me. The sprites also looked out of whack in some parts of the game. The sprites were a little fuzzy to me. There was also some lagging in this game. But for the most part this game being a Game Boy game did have decent graphics.
The controls in this game were for the most part good. It did seem like there was a lag a few times. I wonder if the lag could be due to the system being on the Game Boy. On the other hand Mega Man III, IV, and V for Game Boy hardly had any lags. A few times I thought the controls were a little stiff especially in the later stages. However, the controls overall were very good. At the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a good score of 7/10
Sound: 7
The sound in this game was okay for the most part. My favorite was the Dr. Wily stage. The music in that stage was really awesome and smooth. I also liked a few of the boss stages. Electric Man had a good theme to it. Ice Man's stage also had a nice tune. Still, there were some problems with the sound. Some of the stages had tingling in them. Cut Man's stage sounded scratchy to me which makes you want to hit the mute button. Fire Man's stage had a few tingles in it as well. The enemies shots sounded okay. You can tell the enemies mean business in this game. Also the player's shots on the enemies make a sound too letting the player know they are damaging the enemies. The Robot Masters sounds are for the most part good. The Thunder Beam makes a boom sound when it hits. It reminds me of lightning striking something.  If it was not for the tingling in some of the stages I would give the sound in this game a higher rating. Thus, I give the sound in this game a good score of 7/10
Addictiveness: 7
This is a fun game to play do not get me wrong. Sometimes I like to play this game to see were the Game Boy Mega Man series started. However, I find myself going back to this one less than I do the later titles. Mega Man III, IV and V for Game Boy are in a league by themselves. Those three games is what made the Mega Man Game Boy series. Those games also put the Game Boy line on the map. Still, Mega Man I  is a decent game so it does have replay value. Sometimes as I have stated it is fun to go back to were it all started from. I give the replay value a 7/10
Depth: 4
Depth is were Mega Man I really suffers. Unlike the later Game Boy games that had a lot of depth, long stages, and items. Mega Man I does not have any of those. There are not any items to pick up along the way. What really hurts the depth in this game is the really short stages. The game has 4 robot master stages and they are short. After defeating those 4 one would think it would open up more stages like the later Game Boy games did. This game does not do that, after beating the 4 stages, the player is taken to a room were they fight 4 new robot master. Even the Dr. Wily stage is short.  When I played this game for the first time. I was expecting this game to have a lot of depth. After all, most Mega Man games have lots of depth in them. This one was a disappointment in that category. The Robot Masters and getting a total of 9 weapons is what keeps me from giving the depth in this game a lower rating
Difficulty: 7
Mega Man I really shines on its difficulty. This game is difficulty in a lot of ways. First of all, the enemy placement in this game can be brutal. Enemies will hit you from behind, bombard you, follow you and do their best to knock you off into the pit. In addition, the enemies in this game do a lot of damage when they hit you. Some of them can drain 25% of your health bar. Another thing that makes this game difficult is the tight spaces. It is so easy to jump and land on spikes or fall into a pit. The makers of this game also made sure to put the ceilings down low so it is also easy to hit the ceiling and fall in this game. So in those ways this game is difficult. Moreover, this game does not have energy tanks. I want to think this is only 1 out of 3 Mega Man games not to have energy tanks. I believe Mega Man one, Mega Man 8 and this one are the games were the player does not have access to energy tanks. That makes this game difficult. However, this is a short game and the game gives you powerful weapons to help you out. Some of the Robot Master weapons such as Thunder Beam can clear a screen in just one or two shots.  If this game was much longer and had more stages this game's difficulty rating would be at least a 9/10. But, since this game is short I feel like it does not deserve a rating over an 8. While the game is difficult I feel like the shortness of the game hurts the difficulty rating a little bit. I give Mega Man I a good rating of 7/10 for difficulty.
Overall: 7.2
Mega Man I Dr. Wily's revenge came out I want to think after Mega Man 4 for the NES. However, in the time line of Mega Man games. This game would take place after Mega Man 2. Mega Man I Dr. Wily's revenge is a decent and good game to play. The game is short but can be fun to play. The graphics in this game are decent especially in the later parts of the game. I like to play this game simply because it is the first in the Game Boy Mega Man line. This game did a good job of introducing the Mega Man Killers, and introducing Mega Man to the Game Boy. This game would be 1 out of 5 Mega Man games released for Game Boy.
But this game did have its problems. The main problem is unlike other Mega Man games this one lacks depth. The stages are short and there are not a lot of them. So compared to other Mega Man games that was shocking to me. The game also has its lags at times. The sounds while good did have some tingles to them. I also noticed as I mentioned earlier that some of the graphics were fuzzy.  I wonder if this game was rushed a little bit. I do not know why this game would have been rushed. Because in the early 1990's the Game Boy was doing very well. The only reason I can think of is maybe they were trying to get this game out before the Nintendo titles. Whatever, the reason I think this game was rushed and that is why it is not as smooth as some of the other games.
Mega Man I is not in the same league as Mega Man III, IV and V are for the Game Boy series. While Mega Man I started the Game Boy line. It was Mega Man III, IV and V that put the Game Boy line on the map. Those games had everything a great game has. Mega Man I is a decent game. It is not horrible like Mega Man II was for Game Boy. On the other hand, it is not in the same league as III, IV and V are. Would I recommend this game? I would say if you want to see were the series started then by all means play this game. If you have no problems with the negatives you will enjoy this game. However, I would recommend that you play Mega Man III, IV and V for Game Boy before playing this one. The reason being those three titles are very good and really show how good the Game Boy line became. I give Mega Man I Dr. Wily's revenge an overall rating of 7.2

Mega Man: Dr Wily's Revenge   Zircron Swift
With the countless sequels to the classic Mega Man games, there were bound to be some on the Game Boy as well, and there was one. Mega Man, Dr. Wily’s revenge. This is the only Mega Man classic game I know that has a sub-title: Dr. Wily’s Revenge. I always look forward to a new Mega Man classic game; I always want to hear the music and see the new robot masters. I mean, its Dr. wily’s revenge. He can’t possibly use the same robot masters before in this game, right? I mean, why use the same robot masters that failed you before? Well, let’s regret throwing away our previous powers and get that shiny blue helmet on. It’s time to look into this game.
The story can be abridged in 7 sweet words: “Wily escapes builds robots taking over world.” And the goal is for you, the Blue Bomber, to stop him. Always the base story for classic, always will be for the classic (well, it gets more in depth around Mega Man 7 & 8). With that, let’s start the game *presses start*…..Cut Man, Fire Man, Ice Man and Elec Man? They were in the original Mega Man. Are you seriously telling me that Dr. Wily thinks that because these four robot masters failed him before, he won’t this time? The more I play the Mega Man series, the more I realise that Dr. Wily is a pretty stupid evil villain. Because they recycled old robot masters (although technology the first six robot masters weren’t robot masters in the first place. They were created by Dr. Light and then Dr. Wily took control of them. For the sake of argument, I’ll call them Robot Masters), the music was also recycled, which was a disappointment. At least the game over music and Wily Stages were good enough to compensate this.
An odd thing about this game is you have to press start to select a robot master, not A. Why exactly? I thought my Game Boy was broken for a moment until I tried the Start button. Nothing to complain about, but it’s just a little weird having the start button to select a robot master instead of the A button, which worked pretty well on all the other Mega Man games. The first thing I noticed as I played a level was the controls were quite a bit less tight than the originals, which is a disappointment. It’s also a little less “fast-paced” than the originals. The enemy placement and some enemy’s properties, on the other hand, are rather interesting and unique. Again, this almost compensates the lack of tight controls and fast-paced game play.
Well, it’s a Game Boy game, so the levels can’t be that long, at least not as long as the NES games. *after some game play*Boss? No, just more level. *After a bit more game play* ….Boss? No, just more level. Man, this level is pretty long. *after what seems like an eternity* …..Boss?!? God, when does this level end?!? It just goes on forever and ever and ever and ever. *gets game over* Damn! And it’s a hard game at that. The levels are long and devilish. It’s like the Game Boy version of the original Mega Man, only with what seems like longer levels (but at least there aren’t any of those…..*shivers*…..green propeller shooty things from Ice Man stage from the NES game). Gotta admit, the game certainly gives you a run for its money.
The graphics in this game might be in black and white (with some gray in between, and a green tint if you’re playing on the original Game Boy), but they are nicely detailed to the enemies and platforms. The background is a little bland from time to time, but redeems itself at the Wily Stages. Almost half of the music in this game is recycled from the NES games (and not quite as good, in my opinion), but the rest is pretty good by Mega Man standards. The boss music is well suited to the environment of battle and the Wily Stages are just…..good, let’s keep it at that.
Near the end of Dr. Wily Stage 1, there is the classic “Dr. Wily Teleportation System Fight Past Robot Masters Again” part of the game. I know the drill. So the position of these teleports must relate to the robot masters on the menu screen eh? I’ll fight Cut Man, he’s easy and I’m low on health….Hmm, since when did Cut Man have a boomerang on his head…..Quick Man?!? What the hell are you doing here? Well, apparently you can get up to ten weapons on this game, with the first half being there being gained at the end of Dr. Wily Stage 1. This was a nice surprise. But why….WHY did you have to bring back bubble man? Granted, he is much harder with no metal blades by my hands, but why bubble man of all Robot Masters? In Mega Man 3, there was a Doc robot that took Bubble Mans power. Why is Dr. Wily so obsessed with getting Bubble Man on his side? I bet the next time I see him, he'll be in an asylm shouting "BUBBLES!!!! BUBBLES!!!!". At least they made him somewhat of a challenge this time.
I only have one real grudge against this game: Spikes. You've heard it all before "I hate spikes" this and "I hate spikes" that and so on and so forth. The reason why I hate this this time is because of the platforms working together with the spikes. I feel rather intimidated by the long jumps I have to do over spikes. Most of the time, I barely make it, but sometimes, I fall shortof 2 pixels and I die.....*shivers*. I also hate them combinding the disappearing blocks with spikes under them. Yeah, it is a lot like Heat Mans stage with the disappearing blocks and the lava and the crafty trapping you to die at your doom. Don't think I didn't hate that as well, but with spikes.....*shivers*
Overall. I gove it a 7.7/10         Despite all they did, I was rather disapointed in this game. Sure, some of the music was pretty good (where it wasn't just recycled), and some of the graphics were nicely detailed, and the level design was interesting, and there were some nice twists, but it all boils down to weather or not it has any real originalty. Mega Man 1-6 for the NES were pretty much the same, save for some big improvements to the game play itself, but this game was almost like a copy of Mega Man 1 and 2. I was very disapointd to not see any new robot masters or anything like that (apart from Enker, which was nice). This is worth playing, but you might as well play Mega Man 1 instead. If your looking for a challenge, then you've come to the right stop.

Mega Man's first pocket adventure   Azul Fria
Author Note: I apologize ahead of time if this review is not up to par with the others I have done. Been without internet at my house for weeks and I am writing this review at a friend's house.

OVERVIEW

Known in Japan as Rockman's World. After having three adventures on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Mega Man has come to the Game Boy system and all of its spinach green glory. In this game, Dr. Wily has brought back four of the first six robots and sent them back out to do battle with Mega Man. Bomb Man and Guts Man were left out of this one. You will fight them in all new stages then you will fight in a Wily stage and take on four select robots from Mega Man 2. This trend  would continue for three more sequels followed by an all new robot master cast for the Game Boy finale.

GRAPHICS - B+

Before the Game Boy Pocket came along and made graphics more clear in pure black, white, and shades of gray, everyone had to deal with a monochrome shades of green thus I knocked the graphics section down a grade. Even then the Super Game Boy at least gave us a choice of what kind of 4 colors to use. Despite the shortcomings of color, everything is drawn out perfectly where you can still see the dangers of the enemies and hazards that await you. A cool feature added to the Game Boy version not present in the NES version of Mega Man is the ability to see the enemies frozen when hit with the Ice Slasher from Ice Man. The flames already had that feature to start with. Heat Man looks so cute when his name is shown in the enemy cast call.

CONTROLS - A

The controls are very simple and as with other Mega Man games, you are given more leeway on when you are jumping. Compare that to games like Super Mario Bros. where if you try to pull back during a jump, Mario will still face in the same direction as he looks like he is pulled backwards. Mega Man on the other hand will turn around to go back to where he wants to land. You still have a max of three shots on the screen then you will not be able to shoot anymore until one of them leaves the screen. This game is based on Mega Man 1 and 2 so do not bother trying to slide in this game. It's not implemented until Mega Man II/Rockman World 2.

GAMEPLAY - A+

You start off with choosing which robot you want to fight first (Elec Man, Fire Man, Ice Man, and Cut Man). You have been warned, Cut Man is much harder to deal with in this game than he was in the NES especially since you have no Super Arm rocks to throw at him this time around. Elec Man has been made easier. Ice Man and Fire Man's attacks have been simplified. Ice Man for example still kills you in three hits of his Ice Slasher but his attack pattern has been reduced to 1 high, 1 low, 1 high, 1 low, run forward, repeat attack pattern, run back, and that is it. Fire Man no longer has an extra flame up his sleep when you jump over his flame attack. After all four are down, you obtain a new item called  the Carry. It helps you create a platform under your feet if airborne or put one in front of you if standing. Either way, it will allow you to reach higher platforms. You will go through a WIly stage and face off against four robots from Mega Man 2. Sorry, no rematches in this pocket series except for Mega Man V/Rockman's World 5. So you will face off against Flash Man, Heat Man, Quick Man, and Bubble Man. When they are done for, you face a brand new robot named Enker, the first Mega Man Killer. Next, you will go through another Wily Stage and when you face him, deplete his energy with Quick Boomerangs then on his second form, the Mirror Buster you get from Enker will do him in. Just watch out for the claw and send the attack back at him.

SOUND/MUSIC - A+

The music in this game is just as it appears in the NES version with stereo added to the sound. If you kill an enemy for example and you are wearing headphones, the sound will echo left and right through the headphones. The best song out of this game is the ending which sounds like a good old lullaby as the enemy cast scrolls through.

REPLAYABILITY - A

The robots are very to beat with just your main weapon. Cut Man is the only one to give you trouble but it is worth the challenge. The password system is very easy to memorize and the WIly stage password is the easiest of them all. It is in the same of a side horseshoe.

OVERALL - A-

The graphics were the only thing that kept this game from getting an A itself. The first sequel is full of ear rape and does not even remix the songs from the Mega Man NES counterpart. I'll give a review of it later on but in the meantime the Game Boy series did get off to a good start with this game.

Mega Man Dr Wilys Revenge Review!   G@mehe@d
Mega Man had 6 games on the NES. Did you know that there were 5 Mega Man games on the gameboy? I sure didn't. The first Mega Man game on the gameboy was called Mega Man Dr Wilys Revenge. Whats confusing about that is the fact that, that's what you would call a sequel. Its not a sequel to the Mega Man gameboy series though. They called the sequel Mega Man 2. So why did they call the first Mega Man, gameboy game, Dr Wilys revenge when there were already, 4 Mega Man games on the NES. Whatever, its a pretty good game, but there are flaws that ruin the game a little bit. Keep reading to know what those flaws are.
GAMEPLAY B: The gameplay is pretty good, but its not quite as good as the first 3 Mega Man games on the NES. Sadly the platforming is more tricky, as if the NES games weren't hard enough. There are plenty of times were you would have to of have seen an area before, to pass it. Otherwise you would die because the death traps appear to fast. Despite the cheap deaths. Mega Man Dr Wilys Revenge on the gameboy is enjoyable. It has the same run and gun feel that the NES games have. The level designs are fun, long and enjoyable, and the controls are excellent. Overall the gameplay is good but the flaws that are in it. Make it not as good as the NES titles.
GRAPHICS A: A small 4 shades of grey color palette must have been hard to work with, but Capcom still managed to make this game look like an NES game in black in white. The amount of detail in the game is incredible. There is even a sliver of the game were there's parallax scrolling. That's rare on an NES, and its even more rare on a gameboy. The sprites are large and well detailed making them look like NES sprites.
SOUND B+: The music is catchy and great sounding. Its one of the best Mega Man soundtracks I have ever heard.
ADDICTIVENESS A: This game is very addicting. It's hard, but its very addicting. You can die a whole bunch of times, but you will still want to play.
DEPTH B-: There are only 6 levels, but man are they long. They are easily twice the size of the levels on the NES. I guess this compensates for the lack of levels. There are actually 9 robots to defeat. The last 5 are in the 1st Dr Wily stage. You get powers from each of them. Plus a power up to help you reach areas that you can't reach normally. That's 10 freaking power ups. So there could have been more, but the difficulty helps make the game seem larger. There's even a password save feature.
DIFFICULTY HARD: If you want to challenge your mega skills. Then try out this game. The enemies take away a lot of health and the platforming is harder. Sure its frustrating, but it will appeal to anyone looking for a challenge.

Mega Man: Dr. Wilys Revenge review   uiopop
This game is the first Mega Man Game boy game and in my opinion, the worst. Let’s find out why.
Graphics: The graphics are on par with MM1-2, in part because most of the weapon, enemy, and item sprites are directly copied from those games. Everything has a clean look to it, and there's a fair amount of detail in the environments. Some level sections are a bit mundane, with repetitive motifs and patterns dominating the landscape, but other sections seem conscious of that repetition and toss in just enough variety (a window looking out into space, a deliberately contrasting blank background, etc.) to keep things interesting. For an early Game Boy game, the graphics look great; for a Mega Man game, there's not as much variety, complexity, or...well...color as usual, but it still looks good.
Music: Faithful recreations of the NES tunes mingle with some pleasantly catchy new compositions that successfully capture the essence of a Mega Man soundtrack. I generally prefer the original NES renditions of the music that's been adapted, but the sound here is cleaner and usually more complex.
Addictive: There are four stages to pick from in the beginning. That means only 24 ways to play the game. The boss gauntlet in Wily 1 hardly counts—picking which teleprompter to enter first influences the flow of the game for all of two minutes, and the special weapons you gain make it POSSIBLE for the average gamer to beat the other bosses, not just EASIER, so it's not like sequence-breaking is much of an option for most people. A handful of optional power-ups try their best to add replay value, but they scarcely make a dent.
Story: What story? Dr. wily has returned with four original Robot Masters and a so-called “Mega Man killer”. It’s hardly different from any other game in the series.
Depth: Six stage total, no secret items or Easter eggs. You could theoretically beat the game in an hour or two… if it wasn't for the difficulty.
Difficulty: On paper, these challenges seem fair enough. Dodging rolling buzz saws on conveyor belts; avoiding Octopus Batteries as you climb ladders; fighting Snipers on icy cliffs ...what makes the game so unpleasantly brutal is the incredibly unbalanced distribution of power-ups, combined with the expectation that Game Boy Mega Man is as quick and limber as his NES counterpart. Enemies drop weapon capsules galore, but health capsules are rare, and the few that are specifically placed in a level generally come before the part where you need them. Extra lives are terribly hard to come by, and it's a safe bet that you'll get yourself killed at least once or twice if you go after the couple that are specifically placed in a level. Between the small screen area and Mega Man's sluggish movement, success really comes down to pure memorization of enemy placement and patterns—there's barely any room for good reflexes, clever weapon use, general platforming skill, and even dumb luck to make much of a difference. The game is as demanding as the NES games, but no concessions are made for the design limitations, and the rewards have never been so unrewarding.
Overall: This game could have been great. Unfortunately, it was pulled down by a lack of story, depth, replay ability, and ridiculous difficulty. You might want to play for the music, but otherwise you’re better off with Mega Man IV and V for Game boy.
