Abadox Review by: Totts - 10/10 Abadox With Abadox you get one of very few shooting games before the big explosion of shoot em ups for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
The game begins with a small opening sequence where our Jet pack hero leaves the great mother ship in a beam of blue light and drives in totally black space toward a very vicious grinning wide mouthed and toothed planet, this is our only chance to prepare ourselves as players
for the task ahead.
All about the completely organic planet's surface on the first horizontal level are veins, which are all about on the area directly to the cause. Our hero is immediately attacked by many opponents such as eyes, mouths or daemon entities which we are unable to easily fix with
his small gun provided. Fortunately there are some power-ups to be picked up all along the glorious way, one that can be picked up for instance provides us with some much needed and protective looking rotating balls, our hero can also pick up on his dangerous journey such features as additional speed and a wonderful and addictive triple shot, which can be picked up at the very beginning. If you are able pick up all the extra available items and boost your weapons then, so equipped, the first central opponent, a bouncy bone dog, will present no serious trouble. The second part of the first level already leads us into the wonderful and scary interior of the planet where you must not only shoot but also avoid numerous obstacles. If you die, the game reverts to the reset point at the beginning of the level, and to the central opponent and must repeat the level this time robbed of the section and the provision of its previously picked up equipment.
After you have successfully completed the first level with a wonderfully beautiful boss, the game changes to a vertical perspective and the first and biggest surprise awaits here for every player: the screen scrolls as you normally from below upwards and from top to bottom. This type of game play is for me unmatched by any other known shoot em up that I am aware of. And, yes, it is also quite exciting but tricky getting the hang of at the beginning. Despite the initial difficulties, however, the second level for an experienced player is 'ever so' easy to handle. The other levels periodically change the perspective so you must play through four horizontal and three vertical levels in the final analysis. The degree of difficulty increases thereby continually and goes up until you reach the challenging sixth level, the final boss, who is already waiting at the end and is so tough he can even make the shoot em up professionals sweat. In the last level you set out to leave the exploding planet and on this one you must avoid numerous obstacles at extremely high speeds and it is really such a fun and super little level to play.
Abadox knows to inspire from the outset and is one of the best NES games ever created for me and the entire Nintendo Entertainment System gaming community. Although it is not easy, despite what I implied earlier, but can be handled with the infinite continues with a little
practice to create. The original central and final boss and the numerous weapons available provide an extremely high level of motivation and I would highly recommend this game to everyone. Graphics 9 Sound 9 Addictive 10 Depth 8 Story 8 Difficulty 9

Macky 04-07-11 - 02:24 PM This is not bad. The fella moves a lil' slow, but it is fun. Jordanv78 12-09-10 - 04:22 AM Man I stink at this game now. I need serious practice. Too long since I have played it.
