The Legend of Zelda II   Redrunelord
It is odd how despite being inevitable, change typically unnerves humans. Their instincts of being creatures if habits conflicts with the harsh cold truth of reality: things change. The seasons change, material possessions degrade, loved ones leaves...nothing is immune to the sands of time. In many ways, being an immortal is a far harsher fate than death, regardless of what someone believes happens when they die. Yet, despite being inevitable and omnipresent, humans hates change from the status quo when it is to their favor.
There are countless examples in all forms of life, especially in various types of media. If a band should decide to try something new, they will often get hammered with criticism for "selling out." Should a novel or film series try changing direction, it is usually met with harsh criticism (unless the source material was immensely atrocious and the miraculous sequel was a diamond). Video games also do not escape this, though their receptions aren't as cold. One notable case of a different part of a franchise would be the Second Legend of Zelda Game.
This is the only game in the series that is a true sequel to the first "Legend of Zelda" game, yet it differs immensely in game play style. A major criticism of this game is directed exactly of that: it is not the same as the other games in the series. This game, unlike the other Legend of Zelda titles (Those official Philip CDI Zelda games notwithstanding) is a side scroller adventure. It is not a 2d overhead game (except for the over-world map), nor a 3d third person, but a side scroller, and it receives a lot of flak for this. Immediately dismissing this game due to being different from other Zelda titles is rather asinine, especially as it was literally the SECOND game in the series. As it is the second game in the series, it was more than fair game for Nintendo to experiment with their game. With any discrimination against this game put aside, how does it hold up compared to other NES titles over twenty years later?
Visually, the game is nearly perfect for what it is trying to do. The main goals of graphic designers are to create competent visuals with sufficient detail, yet still clear and appealing to look at. Whether or not the graphics are appealing is purely subjective, but what can be said objectively is that, for the most part, they gets the job done. Enemies and items are clearly distinguishable, given the technical capabilities of the system, and the animation is fluid. An issue is that it is sometimes difficult to perceive certain depths with blade range, and how close Link can or can't be to a target to hit it. As for the soundtrack, it is entirely subjective. If the player should enjoy the original game's music, it should prove adequate in this sequel. That is a major problem though: it isn't a memorable soundtrack, in glancing. This is one of those soundtracks that generally exists in that the player needs to have devoted hours into the game to understand it clearly, but is otherwise forgettable. As well, the music does not entirely match the situations sufficiently, however it could be argued that said claim is a matter of opinion.
The story line is, as mentioned before, a direct sequel to the first legend of Zelda game. The basic premise is that with Ganon defeated, various "lords" are trying to revive him by mixing the heroes blood or remains with Ganon's remains (a plot line likely influenced by some of the Dracula films done after the Béla Lugosi version). As well, Link has to find a way to revive Zelda, which leaves a lot of room for potential. The story do feel shallow if looked at from a modern perspective, as there is a lot Nintendo could have done with the story to make it more engaging. However, considering that story-oriented games were in their earliest years, it isn't a bad story by any means. Indeed, for the time, it was a fairly good story.
However, as the story isn't the primary focus, it is time to weigh the most important factor: the game play. As mentioned prior, this game is a side scroller. The player would navigate the main world from a bird's eye view, and when they would arrive the player would enter the side scrolling segments. The over-world view is competent, and gets the job done. Along the way, the player may run into enemies if they stray from the main road: if they make contact, the player ends a battle sequence. To exit, the player simply has to go to the far right or left and exit the screen to return to the main world map. These happens a lot, and some of these got infinite enemies spawning (when one dies, another will replace it by moving across the screen, but some will come back right away), resulting in what proves to be both a great frustration and a great way to train. Indeed, training is absolutely necessary to survive in some later stages. 
The two main side scrolling areas, however, are towns the player visits and dungeons. In each town, the player will find a place to recover, and a wise old man to learn a new spell from. These spells are often needed to progress through dungeons and various obstacles. In the main dungeons, the player has to fight their way through, gather the dungeon's treasure, and proceed to defeat the boss. To advance through these dungeons, the player needs both good stats and good reflexes. To go through all the intricacies would take hours, but suffice to say that the dungeons do exactly what they are supposed to. The experience system set up is a fairly common one now: gain experience by defeating enemies and finding it hidden/laid around, and use it to upgrade sword damage, total health, and the magic meter. It is a good system, on the whole, but the main problem is that it relies heavily on grinding for hours to gain said experience. To be fair, however, many RPG games and similar titles relies on grinding as well. 
The controls are fairly solid, but at times (particularly during boss battles) the player may feel that they share the same stiff nature as the trilogy of Castlevania games on the same console. The game is difficult, no doubt, but the difficulty is very sporadic. The typical TLoZ formula is that the game will grow steadily harder, but this game has huge difficulty spikes back and forth, which can largely only be overcome by grinding. Regardless, the difficulty spike for the third dungeon is irrationally difficult whereas the latter dungeons are easier. It also doesn't help that, once the player loses all their lives or when they start the game, they're teleported back to the castle. This means that Link has to walk all the way back to the dungeon for even so much as a chance to get through again, which adds to the repetition. 
Overall, is this game worth looking at? If the player wishes to look past all the poison this game has absorbed over the years, then yes. In the end it is a solid, if not flawed, side scrolling game, and it has its place in any NES collection. It can also be found on a Game Boy Advance cartridge, which was a part of a plethora of games from the NES re-released for the handheld systems. Between overall solid visuals and game-play, this flawed gem is one change that has its place.

Save the Princess, Save the World   rustgarde
Story: Princess Zelda is sleeping in the altar, Link our brave hero has to wake her up by collecting the mighty Triforce and in order to do so, he has to go trough Seven hells ! umm.. I mean trough Seven temple's to get the key to the palace of Ganon where the Triforce is.. That is the only way to wake up our beautiful Zelda. In his journeys Link notices that the world of Hyrule is in peril. There are agents of Ganon spying people in the towns and the world lingers many dangerous enemies who tries to stop our hero in his quest.
As usual there aren't much telling about the story in-game when it comes to NES games. But I bet most of the people who plays this game, will understand the major point what is happening here. The story is very basic when it comes to Zelda games, nothing special about that.. Same goes for Super Mario's where you always try to save the princess.. But anyways, I like this story in all it's simpleness.
Depth: Well first of all I really like the Over world system, where you can choose your way and you don't have to just go straight forward and there is these random enemy encounters when they pop out of nowhere and starts to linger in world map. And the idea that you have to stay and level up your character to make yourself stronger so you have better chance to survive in the cruel world of hyrule. And also that there is lot of secret places to find in the map and in the towns and dungeons, so keep on your eye on things and listen what town folks have to say. These kind of things makes the game much longer than it would normally be and much more interesting in my opinion.
Sound: I really like the soundtrack of this game, the good old 8 bit sound brings back memories and keeps the game interesting. When you step first time out of the temple where princess Zelda is sleeping you find out how good the over world music is and makes you want to play the game much further. And about the sounds and effects, I think they are nice too. You can hear the blades clashing when Link challenges the evil knights of Ganon in duel or when you are slice and dicing the guardian of the Temple to get the key. Or when you fall and hear the evil laughter of Ganon that will piss you of and want to try again to beat the son of a Hyrule game.
Graphics: For a NES game the graphics are very nice if you compare it to the first Zelda game you notice many improvements in the graphic systems. The monsters looks very nice, especially I like the models of the knights.  The citizens and houses are simply made but in all that simpleness they look nice.
Difficulty: This game is one of the hardest son of a Pizza I have ever played. It takes lot of patience to finish this, because if you don't stay and grind your character you will sure die against the evil creatures of Hyrule  in the dangerous temples and caves. There are many helpful spells to guard you against the evil, but still if you are out of magic power and can't find any magic potions near you are in trouble. Some bigger enemies hit you so hard that it makes you want to cry if you don't use guard spell to make you little more resistance against the attacks. And in some places you might lost your way and it means that you will meet more enemies who tries to take your life at any means necessary. When I first time finished this game it was one of the toughest things I had ever done in my gaming history. I wanted to quit many times and curse this game to the lowest level of hell. But in the end I did finish it and it was so nice feeling. Play it, feel it, love it.
Addictiveness: I found this game to be very addictive when I played it for the first time. But then again when you finish it, I don't think you will play it for some time again, because it takes so much from you to finish this game. And I don't think you want to go trough that stuff again anytime soon. But after some time, maybe few months or year of something. I bet you want to play it again. So I believe this game is very long lasting.. And it would not just collect dust in your bookshelf for the rest of your life. 
Overall: Even tough many people hates this game from the Legend of Zelda series, I must be one of the rarest people who loves this game very much.. And this is my personal favorite from the old Zelda games. This game has everything that RPG gamer is looking for.. Level grinding, exploring the unknown, defeating the strong opponents, learning new spells and skill to improve your character, finding hidden places and all that. Good game good times, play it ! If you have the guts and willpower to beat it ! Challenge your self in the new level and rise to become more stronger than you have never been !

be the change you want to see in a game   ender44
Why must we as humans shun change? It's inevitable, yet we seem to always reject it. I have said before that I love change in games. Zelda 2 took a step away from the bottom line of Zelda. Zelda 1 was a top down fantasy game where you went through a desolate landscape and fought a giant pig. Zelda 2 pushed that bottom line away and gave Zelda some wiggle room for the future. Zelda 2 became a side-scroller and added a magic bar that made link a wizard.
Gameplay: This game has fantastic gameplay. In Zelda 1, link can only stick his sword forward. In Zelda 2 link can use tons of advanced techniques that will make the game very fun for you. The platforming controls are very smooth and the sword controls are even better.
differences from the first: This game unlike the first includes towns, magic, the ability to jump, a leveling system (which I am really not a fan of) and a health bar instead of hearts. It also makes use of lives. This game also has a heavy foot on platforming which you will be doing throughout your playthrough of this game.
Graphics: This game looks fantastic. By NES standards it is one of the best looking games for the entire console. The towns looked great, the overworlds were a little bland, but the dungeons,caves and forests were breathtaking. This game took full advantage of what this console could do and it turned out fantastically.
Sounds: Yay, this part. The music is again, better than nearly every single NES game. Especially the dungeon theme, which is incredibly nostalgic for me. It is definitely the best dungeon theme of any Zelda game and I wish the Zelda team would use it more. As for the music in other parts, it is fairly average.
Addictiveness: This game is addicting, if your good enough at it. This game is one of the most difficult Zelda games to date, and that lowers its addictiveness significantly. Though, it is a fantastic game that you would want to play more than once.
Story: This game starts out with...nothing. The first 2 Zelda games never really throw a story your way until towards the end. This game throws you right into the thick of things and here is the story you will discover later. The princess Zelda has been tricked and put into an eternal sleep. And you have to assemble the triforce of courage which is kept in many different palaces. And to obtain the last piece you must fight your own shadow (known now as dark link, awww yeah)
depth: Plenty. There is tons to do in this game. There are a multitude of towns, forests, and caves to explore, all of which having a cool new treasure. There are also tons of spells and items you can get, as well as new techniques you can learn with your sword.
Difficulty: yeah, its there. This game is incredibly difficult and I can guarantee you dying many times. This game has very difficult bosses and enemies that will keep you on your toes.
Why I prefer this over the first Zelda game: This game brought more to the table than the other Zelda game. It brought the town exploring and sword techniques that later Zelda games might be lacking if this game wasn't made. And it introduced dark link to the series, and I would be empty inside without dark link.
I really wish you would get by any prejudices about this game you might have and give it a fighting chance. See ya

The Review Of Link (NES)   PixelBrick
Adventure of Link...the second Zelda game of the franchise. A direct sequel to the well known Legend of Zelda made in 1986. Back then, the game was the next big thing other than Super Mario Brothers. Now, the game has become very arcadic. Arcadic, is that even a word? But what did they do to Adventure of Link? Completely changed the formula. There's no bushes to burn, walls to bomb, items to buy, interesting weapons, none of that. Since Link has gotten older, he simply...grew out of his weapons and tools. It's stupid, I know...but I dunno, you think of something. Ladies and gents, we are now in a 2-D side-scrolling adventure. Well...that was..sudden. But apparently Miyamoto or someone else in the development didn't like the idea of a non-linear adventure like The Legend of Zelda. Well, has this game aged well?  I guess we'll find out in Adventure of Link, a sequel to The Legend of Zelda. Well I've got a story to summarize...
After Ganon's defeat in the last game, years have passed and Zelda is now basically in a coma because of a sleeping spell that was cast on her. Link is informed by Impa, Zelda's servant, that Link is the only destined one to save Hyrule again and awaken Princess Zelda. Now that Ganon is defeated, Link has to go through seven temples/palaces, obtain the treasures, and put the magic stones dropped by the bosses in these weird-looking altars. Now, Ganon's minions are after Link. Not for pity revenge, no, they want Link's BLOOD to resurrect Ganon from his ashes. Huh. Blood references in a Nintendo game...guessing that didn't last on shelves for long. But that's oddly dark for a Nintendo game. Well, after playing Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and the Paper Mario games, I'm kinda used to it (Not that there's blood in those games, it's just the plot and characters that are the problem). But this story is obviously more sophisticated than the last game if this is mentioned. It makes sense that when you get a game over (Aaand, Link has lives now), Ganon appears on the screen and makes this odd laugh. I guess it takes Link three deaths for him to bleed? I never understood that, but Nintendo logic I guess.
The depth of this game isn't much. So don't be shocked to find out that A Link To The Past has more content than this game and the last one combined. I'm rating depth a 5/10. It doesn't offer much, but now RPG elements are in this game, so dodging enemies the entire game isn't recommended. Sorry Zelda 1 fans! By killing enemies, you can earn experience points. If you get a certain number of experience, you will level up, and you can choose a source to level up. Jump height, magic meter, life meter, attack, and defense. Oh yeah, Link now sports a magic meter in this game which is used later on in games like Ocarina of Time or A Link To The Past. When you use magic spells, your magic decreases. You may want to be careful of what you level up. This game is filled to the BRIM with annoying enemies, so that would make attack and defense useful. Jump upgrading can be used to get secrets in certain areas. Or you could just use the fairy spell, which is not really recommended. Yeap, there's a fairy spell. You turn into a fairy and you can fly. It only wears off when you get off the original screen, so don't abuse it. Now that we are in a 2-D game, Link can only use his shield to block projectiles, which he can't upgrade in this game by the way, a sword, which he can't upgrade either and he still stabs enemies instead of swinging the sword, and Link can duck and jump. Jumping is abused a lot to dodge enemies, but like I said, you don't want to do that even though you're facing IRON KNUCKLES. They toss swords at you, and they have a TON of health. By the way, this game is aggressively hard. More on that later. Now, there is an over-world to this game, which is just like the over-world from the last game. There is now villages, and in the over-world, you're taller than them, so...what the heck? You can enter them to meet NPC's. I'm glad Hyrule is now more active, but the only people helpful are wise men or women who heal you. But honestly, "Hello," "If all else fails, use fire," and "I AM ERROR" isn't what I'd call a real conversation. Some do give you good hints, but not much really. Hyrule still is a maze, so this is still a guide game just like the last game, but this is more severe. Hyrule is a MAZE in this game. Speaking of which, based on what material you're standing on, if you get ambushed by an enemy on the over-world on, let's say...grass, you will be warped to a level of enemies and tall grass and..fireballs. Wouldn't the grass burn? Eh, screw it. But the over-world isn't very graphical. Yes, that BLANK black box on a giant brown square is Death Mountain. You can get a lot of spells or items in villages, but a lot of them are down-right useless like the Thunder spell or the "Spell" spell. Take my advice, use a guide. I mean, how am I supposed to know you need to cast Spell next to a giant green wall in this one village just to make this one house appear right out of the ground? Exactly. Link has nothing special, but at least he still rocks his short Kokiri skirt. This isn't what I'd call a walk-in-the-park. In fact, it's the opposite. So many enemies, Hyrule is a maze, and this game doesn't offer much in depth, really. Besides all the hearts and potions you can collect. Does Link hold up EVERYTHING he gets? Hey Link, do you know where my wallet is? *DA NA NA NAAAAAA* Okay, you can put that down now...now this may be an unfair rating, but overall, this is 5/10...
Difficulty of this game is a definite 8/10. I mean, like I said, Hyrule is a maze, especially Death Mountain, the Great Palace is like Ganon's Castle in Zelda 1, but a TINY bit easier, Link has to get to the final level, The Great Palace with a tiny sword and shield and useless magic spells, when you get a game over, you're warped back to Hyrule Palace with your experience points GONE, and progress gone. If you're about to reach the Great Palace, but DIE, you're getting your butt back to Hyrule Palace, my friend. At least there's no Wizzrobe's in this game. But Nintendo has to make this one of the hardest video games you could ever play. Not harder than Hard Corps for the SEGA Genesis, but hard. Link is easy to control, but this game contains enemies that hit hard, take many hits to kill, horrible hints from townspeople, useless spells, REALLY hard final boss, if I add another reason, you know you're gonna make it harder for yourself. This game is no cakewalk, and it's a miracle if you die less than 55 times playing this game. I would reward you for that feat. Enough said, let's move on.
Overall, this game is a 6/10. This game isn't great, but at least there is SOME entertainment to this game. The early part of the game is pretty fun, but then this game pulls no punches, and that's a fact. This game has NOT aged well. Heck, Contra is easier than this. Should I recommend this for any casual video game players? Heck no! I recommend this to people who are actually interested enough for a game like this. I am one of those people. This game took forever for me to beat! And I'm not very good at Legend of Zelda games, but honestly, that doesn't mean this game is easy. This is not my opinion. And take my advice, use a guide. And what I mean is like the longplay by cubex55 on YouTube or a map on Game Fact or something. But overall, I will rate this game a 6/10. And no, I am not done with this review. I have three more categories to go!
This game does have good graphics. I am rating this an 8/10. Not everything in this game is graphically distinguished, but the sprites for the enemies or monuments are pretty good. Hyrule itself isn't that good, and some of the backgrounds aren't very good, but the bosses have good sprites and so does the townspeople for early Nintendo Entertainment System game content, I can surely say that. Things surely are a lot more identifiable in this game, but this was beaten in the next game...hint hint, the game which is a prequel of A Link Between Worlds, which just came out for the Nintendo 3DS.  But there really isn't much to say about the graphics than just this. This is a VERY colorful game by the way. The colors are very washed out like Game Boy Advance games...
Soundtrack and sound effects I would say are a 9/10. The sound effects and soundtracks of the Zelda games have been great. I don't really like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword, but these two games for the Nintendo Wii have great soundtracks and sound effects. In this game, the soundtrack well makes the scene. The Hyrule theme has been changed, and there's no pieces from Zelda 1 in this game, which is rather a disappointment. But like I said, this game has a great soundtrack. I like the theme that plays during the Dark Link fight. Which I forgot to mention is the final boss. After beating Thunderbird in the Great Palace, an old man gives you one last challenge...defeating Dark Link. The theme is great for the boss battle is GREAT. Some sound effects are remixes from the last game, like striking an enemy and the sound effect for killing it. This my friends has amazing sound to it.
Now despite this game's difficulty, this game is addicting. I am rating this category a 7/10. The 2-D gimmick makes this game addicting, combat is really fun, and some of the townspeople speeches are pretty funny. This is one of the only Zelda games that made me smile. Come on, even my mature friends from back when I played this as a child cracked up when you talk to a healer in villages, and you walk inside a house with the girl, the door closes, and then you come out five seconds later fully healed. It's immature, but can be pretty funny because of the character sprites. This game is very addicting. Pretty much all the early Zelda games are addicting. Well except Oracle of Seasons and Minish Cap...
Overall, this game is okay. It hasn't aged well. It is very arcadic like the last game. Zelda 1 is obviously a lot more entertaining, but this game is still..something, right....? Overall, I am rating this game a 6/10...

The Adventure of Link Review   Zircron Swift
There comes a time when a game must have a sequel due to it's popularity. I have seen some pretty good games out there, and some fair sequels, and some interesting sequels of sequels. Some, however, seem to make three really good games, then sell out with mini-game filled nonsense. A good example of this is Rayman. Three good games, then the Rabbids came *face of utter anguish* some more examples, although not entirely within the formula, are the Crash banicoot and Spyro games. Three great games, then the magic of the series seemed to have vanished. Luckly, such games as Castlevania, Super Mario Bros, and MegaMan rocket through that accursed three mark and become legendary gaming titles....although Super Mario Bros did suffer from some of these games, but recovered.
And what of the Zelda series? Well, they never got passed the third game. Technology, the furthest this game ever got was the second game: The Adventure of Link. So I don't count it in the formula. It doesn't matter anyway, as this series became a legend among legends in gaming history. So I am looking at the Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It was a sequel to a pretty awesome game, so they were bound to make it pretty different to the first one. Some people call it a fun game, while others say it's too different and far too hard. Is it a flopper? Does it live up to normal Zelda standards? Get your green tunic on and grab that sword as we venture into The Adventure of Link.
A thing worth noting is that this is quite possibly the first and only full sequel to the Zelda games this series will know. It is the last game chronology. All the other games are either prequels, sequels of prequels, prequels of prequels, prequels of sequels, sequels of prequels that are at the beginning of prequels in a parallel universe, or prequels of sequels were the end leads to a sequel but in fact makes it a prequel to a prequel. But never just "a sequel". The timeline for the Zelda games is pretty screwed up. If you want a puzzle that's unsolvable but somehow seems solvable, and you want to keep yourself busy for the next three years, try piecing together the Zelda timeline. Tell me what you come up with when you done =P
Altogether thing to note is that this was one of the very few games to come out in a gold cart for the NES. Only three games had that honor: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Nintendo World Championships. Although the grey for the Zelda game is considered rarer as that was made after the gold carts and the marketing for them were more limited. Only three games? There has to be more. Surely there can't be just three selected games out of the 800 that were produced with the label on the gold carts....
Ok, onto the game. The story is that several years have passed. You are the same link, only 16. Impa tells you that Zelda has been cursed by a sleeping spell....only this Zelda has been sleeping for hundreds, possibly thousands of years....so what happened with the Zelda you saved in the first one? Impa gives you a chest with six crystals in it, and a piece of paper, which has writing that only the future king of Hyrule can read. Link can read it, so that must mean he's the future king. You must place the six crystals in six palaces to break the seal of the Great Palace and retrieve the last Triforce, The Triforce of Courage. This is were the Triforce of Courage originated, but why wasn't it in the first game? And why is it mentioned in all the prequels? If Link was the holder of the Triforce of Courage, then why does he have to go through all this in this game in order to get it? Although I like how they call it "The Adventure of Link", at least we know what it's about. The Legend of Zelda today is that she has been sleeping for hundreds of years. Some Legend.
And so your off! The first thing you notice is that it seems to be a side scrolling action game, but when you leave the temple, you'll see that the charm of Zelda is still there with an over view area to explore. Now nice ^^   They even have a road for you to follow. Like I'll follow that. I want to explore the area *runs into an enemy* Oh how very Paper Mario! The enemies appear randomly whenever you are off the yellow road. If they touch you, you enter a fight as a 2D platformer. At first, you'll fight things like bits (they're like little blob things, almost like slimes of Dragon Quest), and they give off exp. Once you get enough exp, you level up. You don't exactly choose what you level up in, you just either choose to level up, or don't. You can either take less damage from enemies, use up less magic, or make your sword stronger. Oh, and by the way, the sword does shoot lazer beams when your health in full ^^     But it's almost useless. It has terrible distance and doesn't work on all enemies. In fact, it only works on a few enemies. Way to go Nintendo =(
At first, there are only two towns you can go to.....and they're tiny! A lot of people have said this, I know, but honestly. Does Link shrink when he gets there? Or does the whole world grow? The towns folk must be terrified of new visitors. Anyway, the towns folk give you advice....or at least, a few of them do. Some just say "Hello!" as if you aren't on an epic quest to save Hyrule. Some heal you, some require an item, and some even give you a spell to cast. This can range from a simple shield spell to reduce damage, a spell which can make you jump higher, and a spell.....that can turn you into a fairy? What the....? This can't be real I-*activates Fairy Spell* Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! ^^    This guy that gives you spells looks a lot like the old man that gave you the sword in the first game. Does hitting him do anything? *Stabs old man* Awwww.....nothing. There's also this nice guy called "Error". Yeah, that's his name. Some people have speculated that his name isn't really Error, only his real name had a bug in it, which is why it reads Error. Some people think his name really is Error. What an odd name to call a child. He is needed later to talk to, so maybe he's called such an odd name because people will remember that name when it comes round to talking to him again.
you can also read the signs to know what town it is. I just read them because I can't cut them up yet =P     Wait......Water Town of Saria? Isn't she the Forest Sage? Town of Ruto? But that's the Zora Princess. Town of Nabooru? These towns are named after the Sages in Ocarina of Time. Where's the Town of Impa? Maybe this game inspired the Ocarina of Time.....Ok, chronology that doesn't make sense, but that';s what happens when you don't have a straight timeline. Maybe the Sages had towns named after them as a customary thing....or maybe Nintendo really did think about future games and prepared with this reversed-cameo styled town thing.....could that be possible?
Some things aren't explained properly like in the first game. People are telling me to get a candle, so I'm going back and forth towns to get this candle, as I'm told to go west, but the candle isn't in that town, so I go back. I talk to everyone again, and no new lead. I then say screw it and go to the first palace in the desert. I'll find the candle later. So a palace is like the dungeon of the first game. You have no map, no compass, and almost no sense of direction when you enter it first. So time to put this to the test. To the right all the time. This should help. The difficulty is taken up a flight of stairs at this point. You have these skull orbs that take a million hits to kill, these skeleton thinks that require you to duck to kill them, and then these orange knights that charge at you. These are called Iron Knuckles, and are a force to be reckoned with. They can block your attacks, and can still hit you. I find myself madly attacking high and low trying to kill them. they are murder the first time you meet them. So here's an easy way to kill them. Simple jump at them, and attack normally as you come down. That always seems to land a hit on the damn things.
I found the candle in this palace. Why didn't anyone just tell me? So much time could be saved, so many lives could beprevented from dying if people just gave a straight answer! Although it's not really in the spirit of an RPG game. Same deal with keys. You find a key, you unlock a door. There's a boss at the end of every dungeon, which aren't that hard to begin with. Most of their patterns are fairly easy to remember. The only problem with this is your bound to get a game over. This tells you "The Return of Gannon", which doesn't make any sense. But I later realized that if the followers of Gannon sprinkled Links blood over Gannons ashes, he would come back to life. That's pretty dark for an NES game. But getting a game over is a real pain, because if you choose to continue, your all the way at the beginning again! You still have your items, but your all the way back at the Temple with Princess Zelda. So you have to make your way back to the Palace and get back to the Boss room. At first, it's ok, but as you get further and further in the game, you have to travel further and further to get to the next Palace. Your going to be really annoyed when you get to the fourth and sixth Palace. What was so wrong with the first game, were you could re-spawn at the beginning of a dungeon?
When you defeat a boss, you get to put the crystal in the statue of the Palace....is that an Easter Island statue? Pop the crystal in and you get your health and magic fulled up, along with a level up! Then, when you have collected everything important in the Palace, it'll turn to a stone block and you are unable to go back in. Some items are only useful to get to the next Palace. There are these boots that can let you walk on water. pretty cool, huh? Well, you can only use these boots to walk on certain water, all to only go to the next Palace. You can walk on some other water around the bay of this Palace, but any other water source won't let you walk there. This is really annoying, as it could be used to walk over thin bits of river and save a lot of time in some places. Which reminds me. When all else fails, use fire. You can use this by pressing the A button in front of a piece of forest. This is needed later. I'm telling you, as you wouldn't be able to work it out with the information you were giving. I'm also annoyed with the fact you can still get hit and die when reading a sign or collecting an item.
The music in the game is pretty amazing. The title music is sweet and is worth listening to, while the over world music is a great tune to listen to as you explore, but is often interrupted by the random enemies that spawn off the road. So you might want to just listen to the whole thing by standing still. The music gets odder as you listen to it, but you never get bored of it. The temple music is a timeless classic, and is too on you won't get bored or annoyed of. I don't know how they do it. The graphics were pretty good at the time, but not nearly as good as some of the Mega Man games. The controls are slippery. Normally, this won't matter, but when your near a cliff next to some water or lava, you'll want to think twice before making that jump, especially if there's an enemy on the other side. When you learn to thrust your sword down, then the controls are easier to manage as you can kill then as you jump (and even skip some with a degree of skill ^^).
But all the difficulty in this is nothing compared to the last Palace. It is so hard, and a bit unfair that there are invisible floors you can fall through. I was lucky enough to make it to the end.....*gasp*.....erm.....I'll just let you find when you get there. I'm surprised at how much strategy you can have in this game. I'm a normal reckless fighter and just jump right in and hope for the best. But in this game, I realized that I need to do things a little differently in order to defeat this game. Doing something a little different have a huge impact on the outcome.
Overall, I give this game a 8.3/10    Some sequels suffer from two things. Either they are too similar to the first game, which makes people feel like they are playing the game game again (an example of this is the MegaMan games. Pretty much the same thing, only with little gimmicks to make it seem new). Or they are too different from the fist game, making people feel like they are playing a completely different game (a good example is the fist and second Rayman game, or the second and third, for that matter. An even better example is Red Steel I and Red Steel II). To get a fine balance of a different game play, but with the same charm and feel of the first one is no easy task. In fact, very few games have ever done this correctly (Castlevania II Simons Quest is one of them, but only just). Some people think this game is too different from the first one, but I disagree. Sure, it might not be like the first game, but the fight scenes topped over the overview of the world marks as a nice way of keeping the charm of Zelda, but trying something new at the same time. The RPG aspect of it is just the same as ever, and retrieve great satisfaction upon (yes, I have completed it). In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a Zelda game similar to this one. This game is unique for a number of reasons. Most of them are pretty good.
I have come to realize that I know why it's called The Legend of Zelda. It is just that.  A Legend. It explains why the time line is so messed up. All of these games are stories. Different interpretations and variations of the same story. Like the one with the Ocarine, or the time Link split into four, or that time when a Skull Kid got control of a very powerful mask, they are all different ways the stories are heard. Which one is real is based on the perspective of you. Sure, you can piece together the time line if you want - and go insane in the process - but in the end, the legend of how Link saved Zelda will still be a legend, and the legend lives on. That is the Zelda Series.

the only good zelda game i have ever found.   TetraDigm
Graphics: the sprites had  relatively detailed animations, and the background/foreground tiles were designed well. By that, I mean that the rocks actually look like rocks, and the monsters actually look like easily recognizable monsters, as opposed to many NES games who just used copy/pasted tiles sets that were usually just a bunch of colored blocks with a few black lines in them. While they were well detailed, they were also very bleedy. Perhaps it was just the fact that I played this on an old CRT, as most tiles do not bleed into their surrounding on the emulator versions, but playing an irl cartridge on a real tv (even lcd/plasma, I still own this game.), the results are the same. Terrible tiles sets that bleed their colors into everything touching them.
sound: the music in this game is wonderful. Nearly every tune is catchy, an I for one am constantly walking around with the dungeon theme going in my head. It never leaves your head. The songs aren't particularly well composed, and don't stretch the limits of the NES sound chip by any means, but they DO sound good enough that it doesn't make you want to shut off the system, and thy aren't so un-detailed that you feel like you're walking through a barren landscape with random sound effects playing, like most NES games.
Addictiveness: this is one of those games that you pop in the NES, and you just cant stop playing. The controls are tight and well done, the dungeon layouts are well made and not the same thing every single room, every single dungeon (Zelda 1), and the enemies require some actual strategy to defeat.  really everything about the game wraps it together into a neat little package that just screams "PLAY ME!"
story: a lot of people seem to think this game lacks any story. That's generally because they never got past the first dungeon, or couldn't get passed the first spot you need to jump spell for. Compared to nearly any NES side scroller, the story is well thought out, and deep. Granted, its not some final fantasy type stuff, but its decent. For an NES game however, the story is superb. I will not go into it, because if you don't know the story then you probably haven't played the game, and should skip this part anyways, but suffice it to say that even the story is filled with clues and hints on what to do and where to go. It requires you to think, and the story never ends up having some deus ex machina plot twist.
depth: there are a decent number of spells to obtain, 3 stats to level up(which takes far too long), a large and well made world map to traverse, a decent number of dungeons, some being difficult to get to, but all being unique and challenging. There's a few items to get, not a lot, but enough to keep you trying to obtain something to move forward.  the only gripe I have with items, is that most are useless. They are essentially just items to use in specific spots to progress, and though navigating with no candle can be annoying, it is completely possible by simply paying attention to the top of the visible floor tiles.
difficulty: the game aint easy, let me tell you that, but unlike its predecessor, the game is difficult because of the ai programming, not the terrible controls. And a little bit because the game can be very easily broken by glitches that get you stuck in walls and ceilings, and can sometimes lead to a warp to the end game boss, one particular glitch that every Zelda game ever seems to share. Enemies now avoid your attacks, they actively jump over your hits or block them with shields, they chase you relentlessly and demand that you stand and fight. In Zelda 1, all enemies were only difficult to kill because they took 9999999 hits from any sword, or the aforementioned problem of being 1 pixel to high to hit the enemy right in front of you.
overall, this is a game well worth your time. Its not long, slow paced and boring like ocarina, nor is it overly simple and pathetically easy once you get the controls down, like every other 2d Zelda game. The puzzles require actual thought, instead of "bomb a wall" or "push a block", and the boss battles require you to stay active, instead of moving a few pixels up or down, left or right to avoid a fireball or walk slightly out of the enemies random path (Zelda 1, again). If you're going into this game expecting a very simple Pokémon-esque challenge you wont like it. The challenge actually exists here. If you're going in expecting the boring slow paced, thoughtless gameplay of Zelda 1, you will hate this game. If however you're looking for a unique game with a decent difficulty curve that actually requires real effort, you'll love this game from start to finish.

My opinion on a controversial game   mariomon64
People have mixed opinions about Zelda 2: The adventure of Link; Some people enjoy it, some people don't. Personally, I really like this game. While it is easily one of the hardest games I have ever played, the difficulty makes the game especially addictive. This game is a side-scroller, which is rather unusual for a Zelda game. However, playing from the side brings in more potential for deeper sword-play mechanics, which it does quite nicely. When you are head to head with a challenging foe, you may find yourself ducking, jumping, and trying to figure out its strategy, which gives the fighting a little Punch-out feel to it. It isn't like in the original, where you just run around and put out your sword to kill the monsters.
There is actual strategy to it, which I like. This game also introduces the use of magic in the series. There are also many more uses for the magic meter, a wide variety of spells that you can use. An interesting hook that is exclusive to this game is a level up system. By killing monsters and picking up "P" bags, you can level up and increase either your health, magic, and damage inflicted upon enemies. This gives more purpose to defeating enemies, since it will actually make you stronger instead of giving rupees, which at some times in games with them you do not really need.
You will find yourself dying a lot in this game. The annoying thing about all of the dying is that every time you run out of lives and hit game over, you will go right back to the beginning of the game.
Now, regarding the story, it isn't bad for an NES game; it takes place right after the original Zelda and you have to defeat the baddies who are trying to resurrect Ganon and save the princess. The story isn't that deep, so like many games of the era and some games today (i.e. The Elder Scrolls), this game is more about the game play, which is superb. Another difference between this game and the original game is that there are towns for you to visit in this game. There are towns in later games, but not as many as this one. In these towns you can get some advice, get a spell from an elder, and get your health restored (not to mention meet the man named Error this game is famous for). However, despite all of these differences, there is still much of the good stuff from the original to enjoy. For example, there is a giant over world (which is in top-down perspective) to explore; finding caves and secret areas holding more experience and items, and dungeons that you have to find on your own.
As for the music, it is not the best in the series. Most of these tunes you never hear again later in the series, unlike popular classics in the series like "Zelda's Lullaby" or the original theme. The sound effects are standard for the system, and I have heard worse.
The graphics are rather nice for the NES. The actions are relatively smooth and there are some pretty cool character designs. Now, you have heard my opinion, but like I said, some people like it and some people don't. Start up the game now and try it out for yourself!

The Best Zelda Game (IMO)   benis
All right here goes. This is my first game review ever on any site. So be kind with ratings please :)
I will say before I begin, that my ratings are probably much higher than just about anyone. I may be looking at this game through an extreme set of nostalgia goggles but I just love this game. I've replayed it a few times in the past couple years (including some hacks) and it never gets old for me.
Let's rewind to 1990ish and I was 4 years old. My mother was a stay at home mom and I remember playing Nintendo with her frequently. My girlfriend refused to believe it but I remember beating Super Mario 3 when I was 5. She claims "I didn't have the motor skills" at that age. She's a cynical lady...
Along with the Mario series and Kid Icarus, I played Zelda 2 frequently. We never owned the game and would just rent it from the video store constantly. Now, I was only 4 or 5 years old but I still have vivid memories of playing this game. It's crazy to think about but it really is true.
Now, we all know the difficulty between Mario and Zelda 2 isn't even close so to be honest; I'm not sure how much I was playing or how much I was watching my mom play. In those 20 year old memories, it almost doesn't even matter to me. The thing I remember most is the game itself and all the great moments that came with it. I remember crossing the falling bridge in the first dungeon. Using the hammer to smash the rocks. Walking across water. And YES, I remember fighting shadow Link. How we made it that far on a rental in 1990 still blows my mind.
For all these reasons and more as I will discuss in the rest of the review, this is not only my favorite Zelda game, it's probably top 3 in all games of all time. I played so many games in my life where I get bored halfway through and never finish. But for some reason that I can't quite explain, this game doesn't get old to me and I just can't get enough. It gets the highest possible score I could give a game and that's a 9.9. LOVE IT.
Graphics: 9. Yeah the overworld looks kinds crappy with a doll like Link running around wagging his hips but it still looks really good to me. The side scrolling view is even better and Link likes a real person instead of a child. There is typically very little slowdown even when there are a lot of enemies on the screen. I think it's aged really well over the years.
Sound: 10. I wish I could go to 11. That tune that plays when on the world map never gets old and I vividly remember hearing this as a young boy. I'm not really big into sound in video games personally. I don't get what all the excitement is over the sound of FFVI. But Zelda 2 is different for me and for an NES game, they really made the most of it. I can barely remember of the sounds with the original LoZ but Zelda 2 is stuck in my head on repeat.
Addictiveness: 9. For me, it's really high. It's a frustrating game, you can get lost and you die a lot. But I don't know, it's easy to play in my opinion. I rate the addictiveness partly on the fact that I’ve played through this so many times and I’m still not bored with it. And this is not typical for me at all. I’ve picked up some games, played them for 30 minutes and just get bored. Even widely respected games like Earthbound or Secret of Mana!
Story: 9. I was going to go lower but perhaps the thing for me was that as a child, I still kind of knew what was going on. You always started at the same palace with Zelda asleep laying there. Okay, so Zelda is asleep and you need to wake her up. Fight monsters and gain weapons. Pretty darn easy to follow for even a 5 year old!
Depth:10. I looked up a world map the other day and I was like, damn, this overworld is huge! Not only that but the way to access each new part of the world was new and interesting. This was the beginning of the Zelda legacy so you didn't know what power up did what so it was cool to learn as you went.
Difficulty: 7. Okay, this game is pretty tough but I don't think it's THAT difficult... Is it? My MOM was able to beat it on a rental. And this was before the days of the internet where you could look up where to find the next item/dungeon. Or how to beat a boss. She did that all on her own! I was 5 and I couldn't beat the game on my own but I could at least PLAY it. I think the difference is nowadays we just have no patience. Games that were long and challenging which required us to re-do areas, I most likely don't feel like dealing with. Back then, we had nothing else to do! Literally nothing!
So there you go, I love this game for a variety of reasons. We played the original LoZ around the same time back but we always rented Zelda 2 a lot more and those memories have always stayed with me a lot more.

The Legend of Zelda II
The original Legend of Zelda for the NES was quite revolutionary. The game was pretty simple however your mind could not be on simple mode. Zelda games were certainly not mindless games, you had to have decent puzzle solving skill to stand a chance of progressing through the games. Though Zelda 2 was very different it did not lack difficulty and puzzles. I guess I should give the developers some credit for that however I was quite disappoint on the which the game played. 
The mistakes the developers made may of been triggered by the sudden craze of precision platform games. It would be a good guess to say that the developers were afraid of the Super Mario Bros series, it look as though the original Legend of Zelda game was being forgot about buy those who owned an NES. 
If you have played Zelda 2, you will know that it is not exactly a platformer though it does have the odd platform element from time to time. I think the main change was the fact that most of the games perspective was 2D and Side Scrolling. This annoyed me and many other Zelda fans, this was certainly not what we were expecting and this was certainly not what we wanted. 
Graphics
This is possibly the only high in the whole game. When you take a look at the work gone into this game graphic wise, it is quite acceptable. Out of all of the NES games I have played this game is near the top of the list graphics wise. Though the glory only comes in the side scrolling sections in the game. There were so many different textures, colours and detail crammed into this 8-bit cartridge that only Super Mario Bros 2 and some of the later NES Mega Man games can beat. 
Unlike the original Legend of Zelda game, Link's sprite was quite detailed. This is where the side scrolling came in handy. Because Link was close up to the screen you would expect more detail than in the first Legend of Zelda where throughout the whole game he was from a distant top down view. 
Unfortunately the top down sections in this game look terrible, they should of at least used the same sprites in Zelda 2 as the did for the original Zelda. But no, the developers insisted that everything would be new and unfortunately what was new in this over world was really bad. Everything looks really scrappy and almost half finished. It is embarrassing for the developers but I can compare some over worlds to consoles before the NES.
Personally I feel the developers of Zelda 2 could of done so much more with the game, in graphics and in general. They knew that the original Legend of Zelda was a master piece so fans of the original were waiting desperately on them to release something twice as good. Graphics wise and in general, the opposite happened. 
Sound
Some of the game's music is actually really nice. I may hate the song in the room with Zelda and the overworld theme (they are almost the same) but the majority of the temples contain some really nice tracks. I really like the music for the first temple / level, it could be the games peak. I find myself tapping along to that or humming, when I am not concentrating. Unfortunately I do not often get time for that because the game is ever so tough, requiring concentration almost all of the time. That is why I have said before that it is not a mindless game.
The sound quality is just what you would expect from an 8-bit console like the NES. It is all quite average and predictable quality wise but I really like the Ganon laugh, well I did until I saw it over 1000 times. It  sounds quite realistic and at the time of the NES there were very few games that had voice recording in it because the Ganon laugh sounds as though it was done in that method.
All in all the music is good, almost the best thing about the game.
Gameplay
Again I am going to moan on about how much I really do not like the fact that it is a side scrolling game. I just am confused why they would pretty much change the Legend of Zelda genre all of a sudden, though it was the second installment to the series and the second around back then so there was only one game to compare it to. To me it feels like an extremely difficult Castlevania and if you have played Castlevania already then you will know it is really tough anyway. 
The difficulty in this game is intense, I would predict that even the Zelda MLGs will find this tough. I will have to admit that the first 2 areas of the game are relatively easy but by the time you reach Death Mountain the game turns from fun to difficulty hell. There are so many really annoying enemies. For instance there is this knight looking thing that throws axes at you and since your jumping height is very limited it is quite impossible to avoid them. It may not be the hardest part in the game but it is the hardest part in the game because at that stage you will have little or no magic, health power ups and other items that help you progress. Don't even get me started on how impossible the final boss is!
Aside from the difficulty there are other irritating things about this game. It sort of reminds me of pokemon how you are just walking around in the wild and then suddenly you're in a battle, well the same thing happens in Zelda 2. At any time in the overworld the odd shaded creature will come out from nowhere and chase you. Annoyingly it is not like modern Dragon Quest games where you can actually run away from wild enemies but in this you're in a battle within seconds of them appearing on the screen. Battles are fun for a while but since every time you die in the game you must go back from the bed where Zelda is at in the beginning of the game, it becomes really annoying because you will have to do it time and time again until you just can not be bothered to play the game anymore. Yes that is what the suffering of boredom and repetitivity does to you. 
To be fair there is so much that this game offers compared to the original Legend of Zelda. I mean it has so many game modes, that is if you wish to call them that, that this game offers. It is an action RPG however it is also a side scroller so they deserve a bit of credit for cramming in so much. This may explain why the graphics were so bad in the over world because they had to keep the file size down so that the console could actually hold the capacity of the game. Though it would of been wise to get rid of some of the towns because lets be honest, most of the people there are useless pieces of crap. Remember the guy who says "I am error" and the woman who says "Sorry, I do not know anything", not needed Nintendo...
Luckily Nintendo did learn from their mistakes. Imagine what a Link to the Past  would of been like if they did not. I really do not want to think about it because we all know how great the Legend of Zelda Link to the Past is don't we. I guess I and we can say that this game was more experimental to see what the gamers wanted so they could shape the rest of series. Or it could've been just different from the rest a little like how Majora's Mask was, however Majora's Mask was much better in my opinion.

This game does not have VERY good graphics, but it's better than staring at the back of a boy in a red tunic. One of the reasons why it does not have very good graphics, is because in the side-scrolling view, take a good look at the hand Link is holding his sword in. It looks like an extent to his hand. At least the shield actually looks like a shield.
Sound 9
The game's sound when you kill an enemy reminds me of a classic game over. Just not as depressing. The music on the world map is a little tweaked up from ZELDA, and the music in the side-scrolling view is OH-SO good. Especially in dungeons. It gives me the feeling I am in a giant labyrinth in Link's prospective, only looking at his side, instead of through his eyes.
Addictiveness 10
I find this game so addictive because of it's Level-Up system. There are 24 Levels total, 8 for each category: Attack(Sword), Life(Heart), and Magic(Magic Jar). Also because there are spells to learn, which involve you going into side quests to receive an item, and coming back(Example: Leaving: Please help me find my father's trophy! Coming back with trophy: Oh, you found it! Please come inside! Then, you go to the back of the house, and an old man gives you the Fire spell.) These both make the game easier, because with the Shield spell, you can half damage received, and investing in the Life ability, will also allow you to do this, thus, making your overall defense 95% more than normal. There are also a lot of secret lives, and it just makes me want to find everything in the game.
Depth 7
The game is only 6 dungeons long, so I don't have much to say about THAT, but there is also 24 Levels, and for Level 24, you need like 2600 EXP, and you're fighting enemies that only give you 10 EXP most of the time(Occasionally, the EXP reaches above 100, but not so much.), and that adds another 2 hours to your game play, along with the fact that there are 5 spells, and you need to find the place the quest item is in, and there are also 8 Containers, 4 for Life, and 4 for Magic. 
Story 10 
Before Zelda 1, Ganon was(Obviously) after the Triforce, the powerful triangle of the gods. Zelda wouldn't give him her Triforce, and Ganon captured Zelda. After Ganon got his hands on the Triforce of Power, Ganon wanted to know where the final Triforce was, but Zelda wouldn't tell Ganon. And then, Zelda split her Triforce( The Triforce of Wisdom) into 8 pieces, and hid them in the dungeons around Hyrule. In Zelda 1, Link found the 8 pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom, and with the power of his Triforce, the final Triforce, defeated Ganon. And in Zelda II, Ganon's minions are trying to kill Link, and sprinkle Link's blood on Ganon's body to revive him. Not exactly a story for children, but it IS a pretty good one! 
Difficulty 10 
This is a very hard game, but still, I like that, and also it is what is expected of a Nintendo game, much less a Zelda game. Whenever you die, you restart in Zelda's Temple, with a total of 000 EXP/[50]. Also, you have lives until this happens, thankfully, but still you do die pretty often, especially on bosses, and also, on side-scrolling scenes with lava or water, and enemies, you will either run out of life, or fall into the lava or water A LOT. 
Overall 10 
I am proud to say, that this game is one game I will never, ever move on from. It's addictive, fun, hard, and is one of the best NES games ever.

Graphics - 8
The graphics are great for it's time, but the enemies look good also, the map looks good on a grid in the overhead view, and the sidescrolling rooms and dungeons look colorful (Maybe). I give the graphics a 8.
Sounds - 7
The sounds are ok, such as link's sword sounds, the enemy sounds, and the battle start sounds are ok, but I feel like prefering the FDS version of the game for sounds rather than the NES version, the creepiest sound in the game is Ganon's Game Over screen laugh, it is absolutely scary! Here is what it sounds like:

[Gannon] HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!
Seriously! I give the sounds a 7.
Addictiveness - 5
There isn't much to say, but I never enjoyed the game, it seemed okay at first, but it then gets scary with the infamous flashing screen of death whenever you die in this game, unfortuantly, it was only removed on the Wii Virtual Console Version. :( Anyways, I give the addictinf rating a "meh" 5.
Story - 7
It is basicly nearly the same story as Zelda 1, here is the story:
After Gannon was destroyed in link's past adventure, "impa" tells link that princess Zelda has fell asleep under a sleeping spell that makes her sleep for eternity unless link gets the no.3 triforce (AKA, the triforce of wisdom). Link then has to set off on his adventure-some quest! Who made Zelda fall asleep? We will never know.
I give the story a 7, was the story a spoiler?
Depth - 10
Just because it is a Zelda game, it has to be a long game, just like Zelda 1, but only this is even longer than Zelda 1, you have to fight monsters in the game to earn EXP and level up after getting enough, you have 3 different abilities:
- Attack
- Defense
- Life
There is so much stuff that you have to do, that it might take you more than a few years to finally beat the game after mastering it. I give the depth a 10.
Difficulty - 8
This is a really hard game, there are pits that are filled with water and lava that pull you under it and kill you at a instant, there are random pattern enemies, hard as "rats biting on metal" bosses near the end of the game, and there is lots and lots more, which is too much to explain so I give the difficulty a 8.
Overall - 7.7
Meh, it is a good game, but it has flaws, here are the flaws of the game:
- Holding Left/Right at the same time on a emulator makes you go at sonic speeds (almost).
- Gannon showing up trolling you on the Game Over screen with his laugh and evil silhouette. *runs away from house while screaming*
- No maps in dungeon, same with FDS version.
- Insanely difficult bosses and final bosses. :(
- You have to EXP grind at points just so you can level up to get through the palaces.
- When you get a Game Over, instead of respawning back at the palace, you start ALL the way back at the start! >: Nintendo is a meanie in this game! :(
- Seizure flickering screen upon death every time. @_@ My eyes would get damaged!
There is more to put, but that is just enough for the flaws of the game, I give the game a rating of a 7.7/10.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Graphics: The graphics were very good for its time. The characters were detailed, the coloration was done well and you could tell what things were. The enemies were very detailed and the bosses were unique and interesting. The towns people could have been a bit more different though... I say 9.
Sound: I enjoyed the music. It was catchy, not annoying and was put in appropriate locations. The themes seemed to fit with the area they were put in, like in caves or dungeons or even the over world. I especially liked the dungeon theme. The sound effects were cool and accurate like the boomerangs. Some of the sounds could have been made better like the one that plays when you're attacked in the over world. I rate this an 8.
Addictiveness: The game in itself is pretty hard if you don't know where to go, so you get annoyed. In the end you always want to go back and see what's next. I didn't think it was that addictive to it's a 7.
Story: The game didn't really have much of a story so this part can be left out. But with the prologue and ending, I say 7
Depth: This game took FOREVER for me to beat. There are towns people that tell you what to do, but some are slightly cryptic and don't say much. The game has a huge over world and has many things to find, most being heart containers and magic bottles. Palaces were hard to find and there were many hidden things. I liked this but the expansion of the palaces made the game a bit too hard. I say 9.
Difficulty: I agree with most people saying this game is VERY HARD. Especially on your first try with no walkthrough or anything. The game only get harder as you slowly progress. This is a good factor in games, but sometimes it's overdone. Another thing that made the game hard besides the backtracking and the enemies, its when you lose all your lives, you start in the area at the beginning of the game.This means you have to travel ALL THE WAY BACK to where you died. Not anything short of a 10.
Though this game is very hard and sometimes annoying, I encourage you to play this game because it's fun and a great accomplishment to beat it. I also encourage you to use a walkthrough. The total score is 8.3.

Zelda NES II: A brief Review   Lumian
Zelda II is one those rare games in the series that dared to be different. Like Majora's Mask, it is reviled by those who believe 'you should never mess with a good formula'. But lets be realistic here. At the time of Zelda II, little if any formula had been established yet. Secondly, lack of creativity is the sworn enemy of intelligence. Those who deride a game like this based solely on it being different ('But mooom... I wanted to eat only bologna sandwhiches forever!!! Don't toast it! Don't add bannanas! Noooo... *sarcasm*)... well, I feel really sorry for them. because their lives must be BORING.
...But let's get to the meat of the review shall we? If this is your first time playing Zelda II, be aware this game plays more like an RPG than what you may have come to expect as a Zelda game. Yes the whole 'wander the world and collect items, slay ganon, and save princess Zelda' thing is there but... there's a lot of running around and killing things for experience points to make Link stronger too, a lot interacting with non-hostile NPCs, and yes magic. REAL magic... not the 'Nayru's Love' kind of magic from OOT.
This game is also BALLS hard. From the very start of the game, expect to get killed many times over by enemies you cannot even see and fireball spam. It's like going two hundred miles an hour down a stretch of highway and suddenly having to slam your foot down on the brakes due to a brick wall that manifested from out of nowhere
It is, however, loads of addictive fun. I just finished playing this game for two and a half hours at a stretch and if I didn't have homework soon, I'd play it again. The graphics are as good as you'd expect for an NES game, and the sound is as good as any I've ever heard in a Zelda game especially considering the NES's limitations. It doesn't get boring quick. My only caveat is the sheer difficult, especially upfront and the sheer grind of leveling personally.
So what are you waiting for? Give it a go!

Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link is a sequel to the first Legend of Zelda on the NES.  This game is a lot different than the first one.  I happen to be a big fan of Zelda games.  When I was playing this game, I thought that this one was worse.  The game looked a lot interesting and had some good features that were not from the first one.  It is kind of weird how the title is named because instead of being Legend of Zelda, it is Legend of Link, but I have no problem in that kind of situation.  As for the game, I guarantee you that this game may not be as fun as it is for some people.
Graphics - 9
The graphics are as much better than the first game.  The big change of this game being a 2-D and a Pac-Man-like platform than to just only have the Pac-Man-like platform.  The effects look very good too.
Sound - 8
The sound is good.  Hearing the Zelda songs in the game really gets you more into the game.  The sound effects are the best part of the game.  When you are attacking or getting an item.  It really sounds cool.
Addictiveness - 4
I did not like playing this game as much because I would not know what to do or where to go.  The game, in my opinion, is hard.  But it is just what I think.
Story - 7
The story was not that bad.  After reading the storyline of this game, it really sounded very interesting.  I assume that it has to do with Gannondorf coming back to life and Link must stop him from doing something.  Most games like these would mostly have the same plots.
Depth - 7
Like I said, the game is a lot different than the first one, so this game has good features.  For instance, there is leveling up.  As far as I know, this is the first and only game that has to do with leveling up.  Another thing is that the way the game is made.  You can go into town and talk to people and get information and items.  Everything else has been the same throughout.
Difficulty - 8
The game is very hard, only because I do not know what to do or where to go.  Other than this, the enemies can be a little tricky and some can be easy to beat.  You need to get items that can help you in the game such as a lantern for dark caves.  The game plays fair in most parts of the game.
Wrap Things Up...
Zelda 2 - The Legend of Link on the NES is 50/50 in my opinion because I would say that this is the worst Zelda game that I would ever play in my life.  I would recommend trying this game out if you have not already, but I will warn you that if you are not good at these kind of games, do not bother trying to figure out what to do on your own.  Still, this game does not look too bad. :)

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link   reaca
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is my least favorite Zelda game to date. For NES standards, the graphics and sound are pretty good for it's time. My main problem with this game is that it is WAY to hard. Even when it's at the beginning of the game, it just throws enemies that take away your experience at you. And in order to do good on this game, you need as much experience points as possible to level up and increase sword power, magic, or life. Also, I hate when you get game over and you lose all of your experience points. That just makes the game even more hard. The last problem that I have with Zelda II is Death Mountain. Death Mountain is about as hard as pounding in a nail with your eyeball. It's confusing, the enemies don't want to die to your weak sword, and the enemies kill you too quickly! So now you see why I personally do not like Zelda II very much.

Hey you guys,its been a while since I did a review,but here I am doing another one.This time its Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link
Overall:Its a good game but its hard,and its fun to play
Graphics:Well of course,the game is NES style,so that is how the graphics would be in every NES game
Addictiveness:I would play this game again cause its fun but challenging,which I like but not too challenging
Story:Well Zelda goes into a deep sleep and Link has to go into six palaces to find all the pieces of the triforce so he can wake up Zelda and defeat Ganon
Depth:Well each palace is guarded by a powerful monster who guards a piece of the triforce,the palaces are at Death Valley,that is basically how much the game offers and that is the only thing I knot it offers
Difficulty:This game is hard!You can not see the enemies,just only the projectiles,you can hit them so that way you don't lose life
Now to wrap things up,Zelda 2 his a fun and hard game,I would recommend playing this game,and the funny part is that some guy says I am error(lol),I would have fun playing this game,and so will you! :) I hope you enjoy this game!

crazy-underrated! link 2 deserves a second look   bsnowotter
For the longest time, I was not a big fan of this game.  I think I was disappointed that it wasn't an overhead view adventure like the first 1.  I think this motivates a lot of the Zelda two hate out there.  however, I think when this game is judged for what it is and looked at with eyes unclouded by hate, it's a pretty amazing game.this Nintendo games is a sequel to the genre defining The Legend of Zelda. In the first game you explore overhead viewed world wandering the wilderness finding the eight Triforce bits.  in the sequel, links girlfriend is suffering from this sleeping sickness put on her back again and I think and similarly you must explore the world from an overhead perspective and visit various pounds to speak with wise men and up and sword masters and upgrade your skills and magical powers. The big difference this time around is that all the action is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective and in the various dungeons exploration is made possible with elevators helping to add branching paths and confusion to the dungeons and the navigating thereof. Also new is a system that allows forleveling up in 3 main areas, how attack power and magicalNess.  the leveling up system is very well done and gives a sense of hope if you ever get to apartments too difficult, because you can always just level up your character.
Graphics 9:  the graphics are simply amazing for a game of this time.  The overhead map is functional, there is a wide range of interesting environments to explore, but where the game shines most is the character and enemy graphics and animations, particularly the main character.  This game takes a game like prince of persia and says pshaw!  THIS is how you animate a videogame character.   He moves super smooth, his attack animation is quick, convincing and super functional, and over the course of the game he continually gains impressive new techniques that make u wonder how u ever survived without em.  Overall, the graphics and animations create some of the best animated people and critters ever in a Zelda game and set the stage for some of the best swordfighting in the Zelda series (or any game from this era or the next).
Sound 8: in fine zelda fashion, the theme song played while wandering the map is very catchy and memorable, though the jangling high notes are a tad obnoxious.  Lol.  The title screen music is great.  Overall the music is solid and the sound effects are great too, a particular standout being ganon pig's creepy laugh when you get game over.  It sounds like the laugh bald bull does when he knocks you out. Good stuff. Speaking of the awesome music, I know how to play the title screen song theme song sing on the piano!!! Music has to be pretty good if you will learn how to play it on the piano, that's all I'm saying.
Addictiveness /depth:  8/9.  This game is crazy deep.going from town to town and learning new magical spells all while leveling up and exploring every nook and cranny of the vast overworld finding heart containers and magic potionsand learning new sword techniques from the sword teachers all adds up to a pretty crazy deep experience. I graded down addictiveness 1.2 an 8, because while getting to the end of the quest could become an obsession for some people, the way grinding for experience points can become a bit of a chore if you get sucked into the temptation of scamming the system and also the difficulty that sometimessap the fun out of the pita temps to get to some of the check your dungeon there box bites the crazy heart, I mean the difficulty can take the edge off your addiction.
Difficulty :  10.  Crazy hard.  There are these sword fights where, if the enemy blocks high or low, you do no damage, and since the computer can change block heights instantly and with crazy speed of light reactions, I swear it cheats!!  Some of these dudes can be killed with a jumping strike to the face, but still I swear it's insanely difficult and frustrating sometimes. Add to that certain enemies who just seem crazy overpowered and vicious and it adds up to and at times very difficult and frustrating game. I award this game the dubious honor of a score in 10 for difficulty, proceed at your own risk, my brave little pilgrim.
Story 9:   great story! The whole sleeping beauty thing where is no that is sitting right there at the beginning of the game and you get to see her every time you get a game over after continue right from Zelda, it's a great twist on the old rescue the princess formula turning the thing on its head. Brilliance! Also the fact that there's a town and little French quests every neighborhood of the kingdom or whatever and the fact that baby you know you old wise man don't see you unless you go get a trophy or rescue someone kid, it adds up to a pretty cool story. The only thing that's missing in my opinion is like love triangles or drama or maybe some kind of dating sim mixed in, the way he gets invited into ladies apartments to get his health raised is a little bit Grand Theft Auto ask in that you know it's a little bit the game but it doesn't really add to that like drama like they could maybe throw in some anime-style cutscenes we're like link is getting broken up with her you know it could be could be f up the story in my humble opinion. So I docked it down to a nine from a 10 so there you go.

That's my review, I think after reading this review you will agree that this game is crazy underrated, and you'll be inspired to play it here on visit and just be overcome with joy at how amazing it is it will probably cause you to lose sleep because you'll be just shaking with the joy of playing this amazing game. My life on Vizzed will probably be over after this,but there's no denying that Zelda II Is an underated masterpiece. Just because a games different from the others in the series does not mean you have to subject that one game to an unholy amount of critisim. There was,after all, only two games at this point so the developers decided to try something new. Now that i've got that out of the way....Heres my IGN Style Zelda II Review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GRAPHICS: Zelda II is a great looking game...but there was better looking games at the time( Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania II)
SOUND: The Temple theme has become a mainstay in all of the Zelda series and the underated overworld theme truly shows us what the NES Was capable of. Great Palace theme is also a good tune.
ADDICTIVENESS: Zelda II Is one HELL Of an addicting game in my opinion and i play it every day and will as long as Vizzed stays up.
STORY: This tale tells the actual Legend of Zelda but thats backstory.You play as Link,the hero of the original Zelda trying to save the land of North Hyrule from Ganons Minions.
DEPTH: Like all Action Adventure RPG'S, Zelda II Has so much to do and so many places to go and so much to do. Thank God for saves.
DIFFICULTY: There is NO Denying that this game will make you want to throw your controller around the place and will drive you Insane. Zelda II Is one of the harest games ever.
OVERALL: While looking a bit outdated compared to Ninja Gaiden Or Castlevania II: Simons Quest,Zelda II Is a Fine Gem of gaming. Sure it's hard as a stone wall but my God Nintendo Created what is truly a masterpiece. I give the Legend of Zelda II The Adventure of Link 10/10
