Being a fan of the original Ultraman series(if not the entire franchise), this game struck a particular chord for me. It's basically your average fighting game, with the normal combos, beat your opponent before he beats you, etc.,. However, what makes this game liked by fans, is because of who's in it; Ultraman is one of the biggest super-hero icons of all time, and seeing him in this type of game should surprise no one who's familiar with the franchise. In it, you can play as Ultraman in the story mode, from his very first battle with Bemular, to the fight with the ever-recognizable and likable Alien Baltan, to even the fight to my personal favorite Ultra-villain, Alien Mephilas, to the final battle with Zetton. However, the game also gives you more options than that. Unlike the more popular 'Ultraman-Towards the Future', this little gem gives you a versus option, and an endurance level, as well as several other goodies that I will not spoil for you. As far as the game play goes, like I said before, it's nothing really special as far as fighting games go. The graphics and sound, for a hand-held like the Wander Swan, are actually pretty good. However, the biggest issue lies in the rather stiff controls. The controls here are more stiff than in 'Towards the Future', and add the fact that it's almost completely in Japanese, further adds to the frustration. However, this game isn't really geared towards gamers in general, mostly to the loyal/die-hard Ultraman fans. In closing, unless you're a total Ultra-fan like myself, you'll probably find yourself more frustrated than you are invested. However, if you are a fan, you're probably going to add this to your collection.
