Ultra Seven (SFC)   yaoyao9
"Ultra Seven" for the Super Famicom, is, in my opinion, the best game for Ultraman on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SFC) out of the trilogy produced. It vastly improves upon the original, and easily beats out the sub par American version. The game follows the story of the Ultra Seven TV show much better than how Ultraman followed his own TV broadcast, so let's take a look at Ultra Seven, a game I can fan girl over for years to come.
The graphics of the game improve greatly over the original Ultraman, with more shading on the characters, and especially Ultra Seven himself, which Ultraman falls below of since he lacked shading originally. These sprites are the pinnacle of SFC goodness and really captures the monsters well. However, a minor nitpick is Ultra Seven's (and likewise, Imitation Seven's (AKA Imit Seven)) head is a little messed up. These graphics, coupled with the amazingly translated cut scene imagery, makes the game great eye candy and brings waves of nostalgia back to those who have seen the series.
The music of the game is superb, each track was created originally for this game and meshes great with the originally existing soundtrack for the TV show. A complaint is that the last battle music, the theme for Reconstructed Pandon (AKA CAS-Pandon), or Eduward Grieg's Concerto in E minor, is much slower than the TV version, but that may be to ease players and prevent them from making mistakes due to being rushed by the music.
The game is very addicting to play, now that it has much more fluent controls than the original. It also includes bonus stages where one pilot the Ultra Hawk to shoot spaceships, all from the TV series. In the Alien Guts stage, controlling the Ultra Hawk is also mandatory to free Ultra Seven from his Crucifix, just like on TV, except on TV it was the UDF Drill. It also adds a second player option, where you can challenge a friend. All monsters are playable after you beat story mode once, and Pandon becomes available after beating it on Normal, while CAS-Pandon becomes playable after you beat it on Expert.
Unless you know Japanese, the game will not be very deep to you, but each monster's episode is gloriously summed up, keeping all the key points and quotes. The game also gives you the option of playing as the Capsule Monsters, a signature to Ultra Seven, in case you want to test the foe out before using Ultra Seven for real.
This game can be easy, challenging, or rip-your-hair-out-hard. However, this also gives the game an edge. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking to play some fighting game that isn't Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. So what are you waiting for?
