The funky duo returns for another wacky adventure in space! RedHotToddy
Oh man guys, If you haven't noticed, I have not been on vizzed in forever! The main reason is because my Internet has been down for a while, But does that mean that I can stop making reviews? No, because you guys already know that I am going to keep making them whether It kills me or not! But anyways, you guys are going to be asking, What game am I going to review today? Well guys, This is a game I have been wanting to review for a very long time! So what Is this game? Well, This is Toejam and earl panic on funkotron for the Sega genesis! Let's get started shall we?
Story-7/10
Alright guys, the plot for this game is slightly funnier and wackier then the last title, And that is for the best! But anyways, the plot behind this game is that, It has been more then a year since you helped toejam and earl fix their spaceship and return back to their rightful home! Hooray! But that is not all for now, Toejam and earl are smoothly sailing the stars one day back to their place, But they then notice a bunch of earthling stowaways aboard their ship! Not only that, But these earthling stowaways are wrecking havoc in the town of funkotron! It is now up to you to help toejama and earl defeat the earthlings and save the world!
Gameplay-8/10
There are tons of differences between this game and the very first in the toejam and earl franchise, The major difference is that this game is now solely a 2D platforming game instead of?an isometric adventure that the last game was! But anyways, Toejam and earl panic on funkotron is a 2D platforming game where you take the role of toejam and earl who are on a big quest to defeat the earthlings and return home and save the world! These guys include construction workers, photographers, and so on! The controls are pretty simple, You press a to jump, B to shoot tomatoes, and C to bring up your inventory. Each level in this game has a very simple concept to be honest, You catch and hunt earthlings and you drop them off at your spacecraft. You must also bring these hidden items to this guy named Lamont, and he will trade you in some cool stuff! As you defeat enemies and such, You earn these points that you can then use to buy tons of new weapons gadgets and powers for toejam and earl, Like funk scan and funk move, Funk move is the coolest though! As It allows you to teleport wherever you please! This is great for avoiding enemies and such! I really love the new concept of this game! It stays really true to the source material without changing any of the good parts, and that is important when making a sequel to a good game! As I have said, the game is now a 2D side scroller, and that is no problem, because change is good when It comes to things like this. I mean, sure the game feels like a scavenger hunt with all the collecting and gathering and such, But It is no problem! Anyways, That Is It for the gameplay!
Graphics-9/10
As I have addressed a bunch of times, This game is now a cute little 2D side scroller, And I think the jump from Isometric to 2D actually worked out pretty darn good here! I personally think that this game is absolutely dazzling from start to finish! Everything in the game is alive, cool looking, and just bursting with color! Now for the actual character sprites, I think they are pretty darn good as well! Toejam and earl's sprites for this game really look like theirselves, The earthlings look good, and so on! The HUD for the game is pretty self explanatory, It displays how much health toejam and earl have, Their amount of tomatoes and warps left,?Heck, in the HUD of the game, the game even gives you a level based on how are you doing! Like "Toejam is a weiner?with a?black belt" Or "Earl is a pointdexter'! That made me crack up the first time I played this!?Again, the jump from isometric to 2D is almost how like the metroid series went from a 2D shooter to an actual realistic sci-fi First person shooter! I still think that they did a good job with the graphics though!
Sound-8/10
Toejam and earl is the absolute perfect example of an amazing and funky soundtrack, and this sequel here is just no exception! The sound in this game is just like It was in the last game, an absolutely amazing mix of funk and hip-hop, All put together for an amazing concoction! So anyways, As you progress through the game, You will be hearing catchy music that really starts growing on you as the game progresses! Never once has the music gotten on my nerves! The music in this game actually hearkens me back to the days of the 80's, back when everything was just simple, not all this dubstep that we got today! Now for the actual sound effects, they are your typical cartoony stuff! You get splats, boings, booms, bops, and tons of other crazy stuff that you will get used to alot! Please note that most of the songs in this game have actual vocals to them! Much like the knuckles rap songs from Sonic adventure, and this is no problem! Because the songs are catchy enough to have lyrics and such to them!
Addictiveness-8/10
I had alot of fun playing this game back when I was a kid, and here are some huge reasons why! The first reason why I find this game so much fun Is just the overall feel to It! The game really really feels brand new, fresh, and especially innovative! Mostly as this is the sequel to the first game! Another thing is the amount of stuff to do! There are tons of levels, presents, and other stuff to complete that really makes the game feel big and filled with stuff to do! And that is a plus! Oh yeah, one more thing, It is just controlling toejam and earl themselves! The hip-hop duo are very likable characters, which adds more to the fun of actually controlling them!
Depth-7/10
This game is believe It or not actually pretty longer then the last adventure! And here are big and huge reasons why! The first reason is that the game is over 5-10 levels long, So get ready for a big 1-2 hour quest! The second thing is how much presents and extra goodies there are to collect! The game features over 50 different presents and such which really reallyreallyadds really the already huge length of the game! The game is still pretty fun to play over and over again, and that is always a plus!
Difficulty-7/10
This game actually drove me insane on some parts! But oh well, It is sega! So what to expect guys? The difficulty of this game is pretty darn sub-par, depending on how good or skilled you are at these kind of games! So levels have really really tricky earthlings and presents to find! Actually, there is one present I couldn't find on level 4 which believe It or not prevented me from getting 100% on the whole game!I still haven't gotten It today! But anyways, If you are a really skilled player at video games, then the game shouldn't give you any trouble at all!
Overall-8.7/10
Wow, I have came really really far in my reviewing quest on the whole entire vizzed board! This game is really?my 119th review! And that is alot If you ask me! But anyways, I really enjoyed this game and I think you guys will to as well! So score breakdown? I gave this game an 8.7 because It is fun, challenging, and It feels really different from the last toejam and earl game! So anyways guys, Do yourself a favor and buy this one! You won't regret It! So anyways, This has been RedHotToddy and his 119th review, and well, See you guys later in my 120th review!

TOEJAM AND EARL PANIC ON FUNKATRON dragonslayer444
Toejam and Earl on the Megadrive is and underrated little gem of a game, and a game that holds a lot of memories for me and one I spent a serious amount on when I was but a wee little nipper it just was so much fun either on your own or with 2 players. So I will get down to the main part of my review hope you enjoy.
Right I will start of with the story, after escapades in seriously un cool earth the hip and happening Toejam and Earl manage to get there ship repaired and headed towards there home planet of funkatron. Unfourtunaly for our hapless duo unknown to them they had some clinger ons in the way of earthlings. Once they got back these pesky earthlings started to cause panic and mayhem, form bad singing, destruction and general mis-treatment of funkatron's inhabitants. Things got so bad the funkapotamas has decided to go into hiding and it is he the lord majesty of funk that is the source of the funk in funkatron. With this is where our adventure starts, and it is up too Toejam and Earl to clear out all the earthlings bring out the funkapotamas from hiding and restore the funky way of life in funkatron.
Graphics: they are a big fat ten. Seriously they are great, from the bold bright well drawn out charters, to the detailed backgrounds and the wonderful cartoon like animation with little things going on in them it just so much fun to look at and the variety of the aliens in the game is staggering I think this is one of the best looking games on the 16 bit era. Other little animations like being possed by a ghost cow , being tickled by the boogeyman and being kicked by the little girl all add to the fun to the game.
Sound what can I say wonderful a firm ten, not really my cup of tea but the music really suits the mood and the atmosphere of the game well. A great mix of funk, hip hop, RNB and rap and smooth lay ed back beats, a soundtrack that needs to be turned up when being played you will want to dance along to the soundtrack while playing the game wonderful. Sound effects are wonderfully cartoon like and the sampled speech of some of the earthlings catchphrases is very well done.
Depth: There is loads for a 16 bit era game, there are loads of secrets to find, in the way of doors, paths, presents and lairs. You can spend an absolute age on a single level just trying to find everything and there is loads to find. Plus there are a few good mini games as well like the bouncy fungus, the hyper funk zone, and the rap in time game where they have to press the right buttons with the right timing witch is very good fun. Also the main game itself is large 18 levels, plus there are 2 endings so providing a fair bit of replay value.
Addictiveness: To me a very addictive game because of the overall package of the game, I played through this game at least 7 times just trying to unearth all the little secrets hidden paths and try and just get everything the game has to offer. Plus trying to get the good ending as to the addictiveness.
Difficulty: Starts of pretty easy then later on get pretty hard but saying that there are a lot of power up in the with do make the game very manageable and definitely easier in 2 player mode but still provides a decent challenge.
So there is my review hop you like it please try the game and enjoy it.
