An overlooked war game (Tiny Tank)
Okay, today I'm going to be reviewing a game that is often overlooked. Today's game I am reviewing is Tiny Tank made for the Play Station One.

Story: 9
A long time in the future humans being to explore the idea of letting machines fight their wars for them. The organization Sen Trax is formed to explore this opportunity. The United States is a leading advocate and they create a Mascot named Tiny Tank. Tiny Tank has lots of weapons on him. Sen Trax with the help from the United States promotes Tiny Tank. The goal is to get the American people on board with this project and other nations to vote. Tiny Tank proves to be a hit and the American people along with other nations approve. Tiny Tank in a demo takes on the Sen Trax army. However, something goes wrong the robots were supposed to be shooting blank bullets but instead fire real ones. Mutank fires the lethal shot destroying Tiny Tank. Mutank launches a revolution. Mutanks plan is to remove the earth of its oxygen making the world a place suitable for only robots. He orders all humans that are caught to be shot. The world's population goes underground. However, Tiny Tank had programs on him that if he was ever killed would rebuild him the bad news is it takes 100 years to do this. 100 years has passed and Tiny Tank sets out with the guidance of a space station to stop Mutank and restore the Earth so the humans can come out. It is a race against time as Mutank has now got machines removing the oxygen and he uses the San Trax army to protect them. Can earth be saved from the machines that turned against them?

Okay, I really liked the plot to this game. I thought the plot was very creative in how the machines start to take over the world. It seems like the makers of this game were trying to say in an indirect way, that having a lot of machines to do people jobs is a bad thing. I also like it how they tied the plot in and made this a war game. Its pretty much Tiny Tank taking on the robots to save the earth. So yeah the makers of this game were very creative in making this game. So I give the plot a 9/10.

Controls and Graphics: 9
The graphics in this game were awesome. The desert stages look like real deserts. I love the backgrounds in this game especially in the ice themed stages. The sprites of the enemies are really nicely done. I also like it how Tiny Tank's sprites change when he ends up with the cowboy hat that was as nice touch. I also like the graphics to the weapons being fired. Missiles look like real missiles. The color in this game was also nicely done and fits each stage perfectly. They did not appear to be any lags in this game either.

The controls in this game were mostly solid as well. For the most part I found the controls to be smooth and the weapons to fire easy. However, there is a few times were the controls feel a little stiff. I do not know if it was done that way as it sometimes occurs when the elevation in the stages occur. I want to think maybe they made the controls stiff to make it look like Tiny's tracks were changing or what. But it can be a minor problem especially if you have lots of enemies to shoot. Over than that, the controls are fairly good. I give the graphics and controls a good rating of 9/10

Sound : 8
The sound in this game for the most part was good. I like it how they include Tiny's commentary in stages. His voice sounds what you would expect from a robot. The enemies voices are nicely done. I like how some of the bosses when they speak sound intimidating especially Mutank's voice. Also the shots in this game are what you would expect in this type of game, as the missiles sounds go boom. The music for the most part was good. However, there were a few stages that had not so good music. But, I will admit that is my own opinion as I do not like hard rock. There are a few stages and the songs played are hard rock type. Also a few of the voices do have tingles in them but that is minor. To sum it up the game had a great sound too it accept for the hard rock part. I give it a good rating of 8/10

Replay Value and Depth: 8
I really liked this game. I still play it from time to time to this day. I like the missions that the game has to offer. I also like it how there are lots of items to get in this game. This was a fun game to play when I got it and it still is a fun game. The Depth in this game is pretty good. There are lots of different weapons to collect in this game. The player can collect machine guns mortars, freeze guns, rockets, and other types of weapons. There are several stages to complete so this game does take a while to beat.

Now, while this game has good amount of depth to it. It does not have the depth like Mega Man and Mario Games do. There are no bonus games in this game that I know of. Yes, they are items to collect, but not like they are in Mega Man games. There are no side missions in this game either like they are in some of the Mario and Mega Man games. Due to that fact I give the replay and depth rating a 8/10.

Difficulty:
This game can be difficult. The first few stages are not bad, and then it is like the game throws everything at you. Enemies just love to surround you in this game and get cheap shots in. Also a lot of the enemies hid behind things which makes them hard to see until you get close to them. In addition, some of the later enemies have very lethal shots that one hit takes 1/3 rd of your health bar down. The final boss is very difficult too. Moreover, there are a lot of death traps in this game. For example they are lasers in this game that work like Quick Man's laser beams in Mega Man 2. But unlike Quick Man's stage you can disarm the lasers but they come back in a few seconds so you have to be quick about it (no pun intended). The Ice stage has lots of traps as the glaciers cannot support your wait stay on one to long and you sink. This game requires a lot of skill, problem solving, reflexes and sometimes luck.

Now as difficult as this game is. The game does try to help you out a bit. The game gives you several chances to pick up powerful weapons such as mortars and missiles. Those weapons really help if you are surrounded or if you need to defeat a powerful enemy. Still, this game is difficult to beat so I think it gets a 8/10.

Overall Rating: 9
I remember getting this game for Christmas; I want to think it was around 1999. I played this game the next day along with my other games that I got. I had fun playing this game. However, due to other games being released in 1999 this game I think got overlooked. In fact, some video game experts would consider this a lost game. A game that had potential and should have been a major hit, but for some reason got overshadowed. It is not a horrible game at all. In fact, it is a very good solid game. I felt like the plot in this game was good and creative. It offered something new. Instead of a mad scientists (Dr. Wily) trying to take over the world, or a Reptile (Bowser) trying to take over a kingdom, you had machines trying to take over the world. A lot of games have that theme now, but in my opinion this game got that idea rolling. I also like the graphics in this game. I also thought the difficulty was nicely done. I like games that offer a challenge and require skills and a little bit of luck to master. Everything a good is supposed to have this one has. It might not be in the same league as Mega Man games and Mario games. But this is a fund and good game in its own right. It is shame that this game was not noticed more.

The only thing that I did not really care for in this game was the hard rock music as I mentioned under the sound section. However, that is only my opinion, some people like hard rock and others do not. If the hard rock music does not bother you, you should not find anything wrong with this game. The controls being stiff at times especially climbing uphill can be a minor problem especially when you have to shoot a lot of enemies. All of these negatives though are minor issues and should not stop anyone from trying this game. As far as recommending this game. Yes, I would recommend this game. You will find this is a fun game and a lost game. After you play this game, you will find out how fun as well as awesome this game is. At the end of the day I give Tink Tank a good rating of 9/10.

Tiny Tank Game Description

Tiny Tank mixes quirky humor, science fiction and action-packed tank battles. The player controls the wisecracking yellow mini-tank of the title. It's up to Tiny Tank to stop the dastardly Mutank and his robot army from decimating what's left of mankind.

Through 25 intense, varying levels, Tiny Tank rolls, shoots, and quips his way towards victory. Collect nanometal and boost Tiny's powers, collect P-brains to increase smarts, and configure your weapons as you see fit. Tiny can also send out his remote-controlled 'Teeny Weeny Tanks' to scout, gather resources, or provide protection.

Twelve mission-based levels are accessible and a menacing boss awaits at the end of each, so be prepared! The game also features a 2-Player Versus mode.
