The beginning of the end is where it all began.   Azul Fria
There have been tons of Zelda games released by Nintendo over the past soon to be 30 years and just about each of them takes place in several various parts of a timeline. But here is a very interesting fact. Did you know that the first Zelda game ever released took place near the very end of the timeline? The end of the timeline belongs to its sequel Zelda II: The Adventures of Link. Every game after that kept journeying back in time starting with Zelda 3: Link to the Past and it went on from there. Here's another bombshell to think about. While the timeline has its own branches, this very first Zelda game takes place in a timeline where the Link in Ocarina of Time ended up losing to Ganondorf in the end. I know all this sounds confusing but leave it up to the creators to do a lot of time hopping.

OVERVIEW

The evil Ganon is in possession of the Triforce of Power and he is looking to claim the Triforce of Wisdom as well. So he goes to claim it but Princess Zelda manages to shatter it into eight fragments and scatter them all across Hyrule to keep it out of his evil hands. Ganon decides to take Zelda hostage as ransom. It is now up to our hero, Link, to collect all eight shards of the Triforce, defeat Ganon once and for all, and rescue Zelda. Until a new game that takes place after Zelda II, he literally does defeat Ganon once and for all in this game unless you get a game over in Zelda II which he makes a cameo appearance and gets resurrected with his signature laugh that gets used in a later game by the name of Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

GRAPHICS - A+

While Super Mario Bros had set the tone for graphics, it was Legend of Zelda as well another 1986 release called Metroid that got the graphics where the NES graphics started to bare it fangs even though the latter game did it better. The graphics for its time were flawless for its time even though I would downgrade it to nearly flawless today since one of the enemy character's graphics got nerfed by the consoles limitations so it looks nothing like what it is supposed to look like today. That enemy I speak of is called Octorocks. When Zelda 3 came out, it got its proper design. The NES used its color limitations to the best of its ability although some colors had to be left out to be realistic. As with most games, the pallette works in a way that some objects must be the same color as another one. Best known example to name is the Mega Man series. While the weapon-ups are no big deal, the E-Tank color changed along with Mega Man's color scheme as did the extra lives. With Legend of Zelda, both the shopkeeper and Zelda will wear the same color clothes that Link is wearing. If he is in his default green, they too will be in green. Once you get the blue and red rings, they will wear matching colors as well.

Stuff like trees, oceans and lakes are panned out perfectly. They even managed to simulate sand by adding red dots to the ground. Normally I would use those red dots to sumulate quicksand but there were no true land hazards in Zelda except if you hurt yourself by using fire from the Candle. Not even the bombs you lay will harm you. Some games will have graphics that will indicate a secret but Zelda is not one of them, you will have to stumble upon most of the secrets to get to places in the game. For example, on the map there is what looks like a dead end towards the upper right with a hollow tree. How was one to know there was a hidden ladder leading to the very top right of the map? I will say that the graphics can still help or hinder you in other ways as far as finding where to go. Lets take the entrance to Level 8, any normal person would have burned that bush because it was in the way but instead it lead to Level 8. For hinderance, the second quest has plenty of those with certain secrets unlocked by blowing a whistle in certain spots. Same was done to find Level 7 in Quest 1 but that was because of a clue given somewhere in the game. If you tried to find Level 3 in Quest  2, without that prior knowledge, you'd be stuck.

I'll cover more in the gameplay segment but let me get on with the dungeons. With the consoles, capability, they look like dungeons and with the level design, it may be easy to get lost but sometimes the dungeons will give you clues on what to do next. All the enemies and objects are superb and the game even throughs a neat little treat in there. If you manage to find a secret passage and enter. you might find a needed item but the game will simulate a platformer mode. No you can't jump but gives you a little feel of a platform as you retrieve the item. The game also shows signs of realism as you may notice when Link gets a small item like a bow or arrow, he will lift it up with one hand. For a larger item, he will not act like a He-man and lift it with one arm. He will hold it up with both arms. As with Mario, everything is done to fit an 8 by 8 pixel and it was done better as most character sprites design to move in a cardinal direction, got a sprite to show which direction it was facing. Only large objects in the game were the bosses.

MUSIC/SOUND - A+

The music was one of the best selling points to the game. While repetitive at times, it was very catchy. Each tune was able to fit the mood of the environment. Overworld sounds adventurous even though the graveyard is an exception. Dungeon sounds creepy like all dungeons would be in real life. The final dungeons is even creepier. If you blow the whistle, you will here a tune that would go on to be used in Super Mario Bros 3 with a similar function if you are in certain spots in the overworld. When the game was being developed, the final dungeon theme was actually meant the main dungeon theme. The sounds are your average ones you would expect to hear in the game. If a secret is found, you will hear a tune that indicates it. This is useful when use a bomb.

GAMEPLAY - A+

There are times when you will find things to be unfair but you have to get the correct items to remedy those ailments. he first three dungeons are easy to find but every dungeon after that becomes outlandish to find in Quest 1 and even moreso in Quest 2 except for Level 6. Level 4, needs a raft to reach which is no biggie. Level 5, you have to keep going up a ladder that keeps repeating until the dungeon reveals itself. Level 7 needs you to blow the whistle to dry up the lake where there is no fairy. Level 8 requires burning the bush and Level 9 requires you to blow up the left rock where you see two rocks. Not all secrets are good secrets, there is a guy that will charge you for door repairs and you will lose money or rupees as they are called. Lost in translation or shall I say importation is the method to kill the Pols Voice (rabbit looking enemies). The Famicom had a feature to use the microphone on the second controller and you could just make noise to defeat them but the NES had no such feature as the weakness would end up being changed to arrows instead of using the whistle which one would most likely try to use first. The whistle did however work to turn Digdogger to a Digpuppy and make him vulnerable to attack. Ganon himself is not so hard. 3 hits with the Master Sword, and one hit with the silver arrow and he dies.

REPLAYABILITY - A+

There are several reasons to play this game again and again. Legend of Zelda hides several secrets waiting to be discovered by way of burning bushes, bombing walls, and blowing the whistle in some spots. Some secrets are necessary to beat the game. In the 2nd quest, you will have to walk through walls in order to go into the next room. Some dungeons also required bombing certain walls to go through. In the prototype version, the only wall you could walk through is at the part in Dungeon 9 quest 1 where you are told to bomb the left wall but you call walk through the right wall and this will lead to the silver arrows required to beat Ganon. The released version places them in a reachable room by normal means. As said before, not all secrets are good ones, you can blow up or burn the entrance but as long as you don't go inside, you won't have to worry about the door repair charge. If you see the lady that says pay her and she will talk, don't pay her the most expensive thing unless its 20 rupees or she will rip you off by saying "Boy, you're rich!"

OVERALL - A+

No doubt, this game is well deserving of an A+. It became a cult classic that caught on quick. Another thing that this game compares to Metroid was the lack of brain cells people had to the main characters' names. People would call Link Zelda and people would call Samus Metroid all because of the game's name. In both games Zelda was the name of the princess needed for rescuing and Metroid was the name of the series main enemy. There were other games like that but I can't remember but anyway's Zelda is a game that will always gets its just due no matter what.

A Game that started a great series   IgorBird122
Here is another review by IB122, and this review is on the game "The Legend of Zelda" for the NES. This game has became the 2nd biggest gaming series that Nintendo owns (the first being Mario) This series happens to be one of the most famous series that lasts all the way to today, and although they was a few bumps in the road *cough" CD-i "Cough". This game was released in 1987 (1986 in Japan) for the NES system and this have as well with the Super Mario Bros. game, they both revolutionized the whole gaming industry to where it is today. This game really offer a whole lot on just for the NES system, what does this game offer? Let's look at the review.
Graphics
For the Graphics in this game, it is very outstanding for an 8-bit system and I think they really did a nice job for it's time the game is all detailed and all nice looking, although the Graphics to my point of view could be a little bit better though, but being a 1986/87 game I think mostly they gave tried their best during their time when this game was made which I don't think is wasn't much of an issue,  What I do got to say, every bit in this one game has a whole lot of interesting effects though, like when you defeat Ganon, and a bunch of other effects, I think they did pretty good with that though. as for the setting, I think it does look pretty nice though, For the NES, I really like on how the scenery has turned out like the treed having that 8-bit texture and being green, plus most of the paths are easy to tell on where to go (although some parts it's really hard to point out though), also, the cave settings and the dungeon levels all looks really nice and well done for it's time, so for the settings, I just really like on how it turned out altogether.
Ok, with everything I said regarding the Graphics, I'm going to give the score for the graphics an 8 out of 10, I did think they would do a tiny bit better with the graphics but for the NES, not really a whole lot in this game because it being an 8-bit system, but a few things can be fixed up a tiny bit though.
----
Sound and Music
The sound effects in this game is really interesting, it has that classic 8-bit sounds, although they really ain't that much to say about the sound effects because it got that classic NES sounds, but other than that, thats's mostly it
But for the music of the game on the other hand, I think this was a major part of this game, it's just that the music really came out really nice and clear, even for an 8-bit system, although only 4 different songs happened to be played in this game, but I tell you, just those 4 songs, they are one of the best on not just the Zelda games, but any games on the NES, and with anyone that is a huge video game fanatic out there can easily guess the overworld theme without even guessing because the music in the Zelda games is really famous to remember, and it's not just hardcore video game fanatics, but also people that are new to video games, it has revolutionized on how music is played in a video game.
So, with all that said about the sounds and music on this game, I'm going to give this a 9 out of 10, mostly because the music of this game is just... fantastic, that's mostly all I got to say about this game because it's really that nicely done and very legendary, but the sound effects can do a tiny bit better though which would give this a perfect 10, but 9 out of 10 is still really nice to have though.
----
Addiction Level
The Addiction Level for this game is extremely high, because to everyone, despite The Legend of Zelda is Nintendo's 2nd biggest game series, but how much people are addicted to the The Legend of Zelda series, it should be #1, but anyways, for this game, it is very addictive, the reason why, this has became the first game where the player can interact in their world by exploring this game (which does influence games in the future). The only thing is if you don't get too frustrated at the beginning of the game and just stop playing the game altogether, once you get through that tough patch at the beginning, then this game can be really quite addicting though, so to my though on how the addiction level in this whole game, it has really made a lot of people addicted to this game, that's mostly what I do got to say about that, a whole lot of people.
Anyways, with all that said, I'm going to give the addiction level of this game a perfect 10 out of 10, because on how much this game has to do and how much you can explore in this game a lot of people likes exploring the map, that's what makes a game really good.
----
Story
The story begins in a kingdom known as Hyrule where everything was all calm and peaceful, that was until Ganon's army has invaded the kingdom and caused a lot of mayhem in the whole kingdom. And Ganon happens to kidnap Zelda (or known as the princess of Hyrule), but what makes different than the Super Mario Bros. game, you don't just have to save the Princess, but you also have to get the power of the triforce as well so you can be able to restore Hyrule back to normal. Zelda before her kidnapping has spitted up part of the triforce, the triforce of Wisdom, and Link has to find all the pieces to the triforce and use it to defeat the evil Ganon and both free Zelda and get the other triforce (the Power).
So, with the story, I'm going to give this a 9 out of 10, it is a pretty great story, although he has followed part on the Super Mario Bros. game, but just a tiny bit though, but that's mostly it though, a really great story in this game.
----
Depth
With the Depth of this game, it's really got a whole lot to offer, just like I mentioned in the Story, you got to go find the 8 missing pieces to the triforce of Wisdom that is scattered around Hyrule, and it isn't just trying to find those 8 pieces, also, they're a whole lot of other interesting items and weapons you can grab as well for you to use on your way to find the missing triforce pieces and finding Ganon and Zelda. As for the game itself, it does have a lot of levels you can explore rather if you're trying to find the triforce pieces, items, or just looking around the world of Hyrule, either way, this game doe have a whole lot in this game, you have like a total of 9 dungeons to look in and all the different items you can use to defeat your enemies with, and all the different ways you can travel in order to get to Ganon, this game sure offers a whole lot to my opinion.
So with everything I have included in the depth of this game, I'm going to say and give the Depth score of 9 out of 10, this game really has a whole lot to offer, like all the many levels and the many items to use, it's just really that nice.
----
Difficulty and Gameplay
The Difficulty of this game isn't really that bad if you mostly know on what you're doing and a really great fan of the series, but if you're new to the series, it might take some time figuring out on what you're doing, but even if you're new, you can figure out on what you're doing pretty quickly though. The only thing is that the enemies can be a little pain to get though at the start of the game, because you got to be ready on what's ahead because it can go from easy to really hard really quickly at the start of the game, but then after that, it is pretty smooth sailing though. As for the gameplay and the controls, it's really not that bad though, although some parts of the game can be a little difficult at times though. So, mostly for this game, you just need all the practicing you need to accomplish your goal of completing this whole game, because when you start.
So, as for the Difficulty and the Gameplay in this game, I will give it a 7 out of 10, it is a little hard at first, but if you know on what you're doing, it will be a whole lot more easier that you though, that brings the quote "Practice makes perfect"
----
Overall
Ok, Overall in this whole game, I do got to say, it can be quite tough at the beginning, but once you get past that part, it can be quite an interesting game though, plus you also got the legendary music playing in this game which all gamers really like to listen to, and with all you can do in this game, this can leave you playing this for quite a bit, but despite the graphics, I think Nintendo really nailed it with this game and started a legendary series in the coming years that is still going really strong even up to today, although they have been a few bumps in the road, but I see this one series that is going to stay legendary, and with the first game of the series that started the Zelda series, this one game alone became the game that started it all, so to my mind personally, this is one of the absolute best in the series.
Ok, what is the final score I should give this game, you know with all that I have mentioned above, I'm going to more likely say that I'm going to give this game a final score of 9 out of 10, it's music, addiction level, and it's depth really put this game on the map, If would say if you haven't tried this game, you should give it a shot, despite it might be a little tough at the beginning, but let me tell you, it will be completely worth it with everything else in this game.

The Legend of Zelda   vizwiz123
Today, gamers alike at least know about the Legend of Zelda series. Spawning numerous games that have mostly received positive reception (glares at the Cd-i), these games have always brought gamers all the fun it could give. But today, I"m gonna review the game that started the entire series, The Legend of Zelda.
Released on the NES in 1986, this game was pretty ground-breaking at the time, from what I've heard. Top-down perspective gameplay with plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of exploration to it, this game is a great game to buy. Now, I should get into the story, which is actually decent for an NES game, and the game at least goes out and explains the plot in game if you do nothing on the title screen. Ganon, the prince of darkness, has stolen the Triforce of Power for himself. Before being captured and held prisoner by Ganon, Princess of Zelda of the Hyrule kingdom breaks her part of the Triforce, the Triforce of Courage, into eight pieces. Now it is up to you, Link, to retrieve the pieces, resting in 8 dungeons, and defeat Ganon and save Zelda. Pretty simple, right?
Control-wise, the game does handle well for its time, but if you play a game like Link to the Past, the combat controls completely beat out the original game's control. Once you get the sword, you hit A to attack with it, sticking it out right in front of you. If you're at full health, you shoot a projectile out of it. B is for all of the items you'll be using, which I'll get to in a minute. Start brings up the item list, and select pauses the game without bringing up the items. Basic controls are basic, although the sword might take a little bit getting used to.
There are plenty of items that you'll be collecting. First is a heart, which restores one heart on your life bar. Then there is the Heart Container, which adds an entire new heart to your life bar. You'll always get one after defeating a dungeon's boss, but there are hidden ones in the main world. Then there is the Fairy, which restores about six hearts on your lifebar. Next is the clock, which freezes all enemies on screen for easy picking. Then there is the regular rupee and the blue rupee, which are worth 1 and 5 rupees respectively. Rupees are your currency in the game to buy stuff at shops, and they are your actual ammo for your bow. There's the letter, which you need to get and show to he old woman so she can offer to sell you either the blue or red potions. They both restore your life completely, but the blue potion is one use while the red is two use. Next is some food, which is completely useless except for getting past a certain obstacle in I believe the seventh dungeon. Either way, get some. :P Next is the Wooden Sword, the sword you immediately get at the start of the game. IT's weak, though. Then the White Sword (later on becoming the Master Sword in the series). You need about six total hearts in your lifebar to get it, and the sword is hidden near a certain waterfall. Finally, the Magical Sword, the most powerful sword. You need 12 hearts to get it, and it's hidden in the graveyard. Next is the Magical Shield, which blocks any projectiles that hit it. Watch out though, because a certain enemy can eat it and take it away from you permanently. Then there is the regular Boomerang and the Magical Boomerang. They both go out and stun most enemies, the magical boomerang has longer range than the regular one. Next are Bombs, one of the most important items out there. You use them to blow up enemies and walls to uncover secret passages. You can only carry 8 at the start, but certain old men will allow you to carry more if you pay them. Next is the Bow and Arrow, sold seperatly! :P The Bow is hidden in a dungeon, and the Arrows can be bought at shops. Your Rupees are your ammo for arrows, which are needed to defeat a certain boss. Next is the Silver Arrow, found in the last dungeon and needed to beat Ganon. Next is the Blue and Red Candles, which let you shoot flames in front of you to burn enemies and certain bushes. The Blue only lets you shoot one flame per screen, but the Red lets you use it infinitely. Next is the Blue and Red Ring. The Blue Ring can be bought at certain stores for an extremely high price, but they cut the damage you receive by half. The Red Ring is found in the last dungeon, and cuts the damage you receive even further. Next is the Power Bracelet, hidden in the main world. IT is used to push certain stones and such to uncover secret passages. The Recorder is a dungeon item that you use to weaken a certain boss and can be used in the main world to warp to dungeons you were in before. It's also used to uncover a certain dungeon's entrance. The Raft is used to row across water at certain points to uncover secrets. The Stepladder is used as a bridge so you can cross over to other areas. The Magical Rod is a staff that shoots out weird waves, but it really doesn't do much unless you have the Book of Magic, which upgrades the rod to shoot waves that burst into flames on impact. Then there's the key, which opens locked doors. Then the Magical Key, which is basically a key that never wastes. Then there is the Map, which lets you see where you're going in dungeons. Then the Compass, which marks the location of the end point of dungeons on your map, and finally, the Triforce, found at the end of all dungeons after beating the boss. Collecting them all is necessary to enter the final dungeon. That's it for the items.
The main world is where you wander around, defeating enemies such as Moblins that fire arrows at you, Octorocks that run around shooting rocks at you, Zoras that hide in the water and fire pellets at you, statues that once activated will chase you down, these weird blue and red dog like creatures that take plenty of hits to kill and shoot powerful sword projectiles at you, spider things that leap all over the screen, Leevers that pop out of the ground and try to attack you, pineapple looking enemies that fly around and can't be hurt until they stop flying, and more. Don't worry, they aren't that challenging, especially once you get the more powerful swords.
Out in the main world are secret passages that are found by either using items such as the raft or stepladder to reach passages or blowing up walls with a bomb or simply finding it at certain points of the map. There are shopkeepers that sell you various items, Moblins that will give you free Rupees, old men that give you advice, the old lady who sells you potions, old women who will give you hints at the cost of rupees, old men who will frickin charge you for "breaking" into their homes, old men will offer you either a red potion or a heart container (ALWAYS pick the heart container), and others that I will let you find on your own. Just bomb any walls that look strange to you.
There are eight dungeons besides the final dungeon (Ganon's lair) that you can enter from the main world. I Won't spoil their exact layouts or exactly how to get through them and find their hidden items, but I will at least describe the enemies of the dungeons.
Dungeon 1 introduces us to bats, which usually come in swarms and fly around randomly, skeleton enemies that are really not threatening and usually just give you hearts and hold keys and stuff, these weird orange creatures that walk around and attack you by stopping and tossing their boomerang at you, and Wallmasters (I think they're called) which send you all the way to the beginning of the dungeon if they grab you. It's boss is this dragon that sits around 1 spot and shoots 3 energy balls at you. Not a challenge at all, especially if you're at full health and shoot projectiles at it.
Dungeon 2 brings us a couple of new enemies, such as cobras that charge straight at you once you're on the same horizontal or vertical plane as them, jelly things that are really easy to kill but never give you any items, fire snakes that take multiple hits to kill and just move around aimlessly for the most part,  blue creatures that are just like the orange things from Dungeon 1, but take more hits to kill and are more powerful. Their boomerangs also have more reach to it. Dungeon 2's boss, which will become a regular enemy in other dungeons after this, is a Dodongo, a stegosaurus like creature. You can't kill them with your sword, you have to stuff bombs in their mouths to kill them.
Dungeon 3 contains enemies we've already seen before, but they do introduce "upgraded" versions of the jellies, which split into smaller jellies unless you hit them with the White or Magical Sword, and Darknuts, knight enemies that wander around and try to run into you. They can be hit from behind or the side, but not from the front. Dungeon 3's boss is some....thing. I don't know it's name, but picture 4 Pac-Mans attached to one centerpiece. It moves around, trying to run into you and shooting pellets at you. You can try to stab the Pac-Mans individually, but a well-placed bomb will kill them all in one shot.
Dungeon 4 gives us Like Likes, who will eat your shield if they grab you, and gargoyle creatures, who split into bats when hit unless hit with the Magical Sword. The boss is a two-headed dragon that shoots fire at you. Killing one head will turn it into some hell ghost that floats around and shoots fire at you. Slice the heads repeatedly till it's dead.
Dungeon 5 introduces mummies, which pose no threat and take a lot of hits to kill, blue darknuts, which are stronger versions of regular darknuts, weird bunny things that hope around and are really weak to arrows, and the dungeon boss, Digdogger. It's completely invincible, with statues shooting pellets at you from the corners as well. You need to get the Recorder and play it, weakening the creature and allowing you to kill it.
Dungeon 6 introduces two extremely annoying enemies, Orange and Blue Wizrobes. Orange Wizrobes spawn multiple clones of themselves and teleport to one tile of the room and fire very powerful waves at you. Thankfully, they're easy to beat, and defeating the real one kills its clones. Blue Wizrobes are very annoying. They take more hits to kill, walk around normally and teleport around the room randomly by phasing through objects, and they turn on rapid fire when firing waves at you if you're facing them. The boss here is Gohma, which requires the arrow. It's completely invincible to sword attacks, but one arrow to its knee......err, eye once it's open kills it.
Dungeon 7 introduces no new enemies, not even a new boss. The whole dungeon is a mix of all of the previous dungeon's enemies, including the bosses randomly place throughout this dungeon. It's a challenge to get through here, but with the right items, it'll be a piece of cake.
Dungeon 8 is more of the same as Dungeon 7, just packed to the brim with Dungeon 3's boss, Darknuts, those bunny enemies, and those statues that fire at you. The boss is a four headed dragon, though.
Dungeon 9, Ganon's Lair. It's packed with Wizrobes and Like Likes, but also introduce two new enemies. There are these red or blue snake things, which are like the fire snakes, but A LOT faster. Then there is Patra, a fly thing with rocks surrounding it, which it either circles around it repeatedly or extends outward to hit you. YOu have to destroy the rocks before you can stab Patra. At the end of this dungeon lies the pig thing known as Ganon. He is invisible throughout the fight while shooting pellets at you. Use those pellets to determine where he is and swing your sword wherever you think he is. After enough hits, he sits there glowing red, and one Silver Arrow to the head will kill him. Collect his Triforce and enter the last room. Slice away the fire, and you will have rescued Zelda. Game finished! Now, the scores.
SCORES
Graphics - 7
I think they could've been better, but the bosses look good. Regular enemies and Link and other humans don't look that great though.
Sound - 8
For the tracks it does have, it's pretty catchy, especially the overworld theme.
Addictiveness - 7
Unless you're quickly turned off with the vast openness of this game, you'll find yourself playing this again a lot, especially when it comes to failing the later dungeons.
Story - 9
For NES standards, it's up there. Although this is usually the main story of Zelda games in the future. :P

This game is huge. There is so much to explore in just the main game, secret passages, hidden items, etc. There is also a second quest you get after beating the main game, but it's much harder than the first, with different dungeon locations and layouts.
Difficulty - 8
Trust me, from dungeon 5 and onwards, this game begins to kick your butt. And that's only the first quest. Try the second quest afterwards and see how well that goes. >.>
Overall - 8
While this game has its flaws due to its iffy combat and vast openness for an NES game, I Would at least recommend trying this. I had fun with the game, I would like to see how you guys feel about it.
Thanks for reading. :)

The Legend of Zelda: An interesting place to start   Woodenfan
So, the Legend of Zelda. This should be a fun game!
I'm personally glad I beat this game before writing this review, since I didn't want to jump the gun on any part of the game I deemed "cheap" or "unfair". Anyways, let's get to this review, shall we? Firstly, the graphics. I'm really glad to say that the emulator that I was playing it on made Hyrule look GORGEOUS. Smooth framerate, very high quality coloring and top-notch quality really make this a recommended version of the game to play. But as to the graphics themselves, they also still look very nice for the time. However, there really should be more setpieces to the land of Hyrule itself, as its very easy to get lost, or at the least, a better map. That gray square is an inexcusable excuse for a map, and for first time players, I highly recommend you look online for a guide or a map, so you won't get frustrated. Next, the sound. The music is nice to listen to, its not screechy or high pitched, very easy on the ears, but the repetitiveness can definitely turn people off from the experience. There's a very limited amount of tracks in the game, and they loop very quickly, so you could be pressing the mute button on the emulator rather soon. Addictiveness I'll save for last, that's a special case, so let's move on to the story. The story isn't too big or grand or epic, its another "save the princess" plot, although it is fleshed out a little more, showing that Ganon (NOT "Gannon", as the game calls him) took the Triforce of Power, and Zelda, not wanting him to have both Triforces (yes, there were two at this time, not three), broke the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces. As Link, you need to gather the 8 pieces and save Zelda. Its fine for what it is, it doesn't need to delve into the history of Hyrule or whatnot too much, so that gets a pass from me. The depth is very nice, Hyrule is diverse and there's a lot to do. A bit of a shame there's no sidequests or the like to do, heck, even some towns or interaction would be nice (the old man doesn't count here). You mainly go from dungeon to dungeon, get Heart Pieces or potions or the like, and continue on in that manner. Next, the difficulty. Man, this game doesn't know what it wants to do in terms of difficulty, its so schizophrenic! You have an easy time with the first palace, and the second, but the third will definitely test your patience with the introduction of Darknuts. The fifth palace will also frustrate you with the two variants of Wizzrobes you can find. Other than that, the other palaces (save Palace 8) aren't that strenuous, Palace 7 is actually one of the best spots to grind for Rupees if you need it. When Link is fully upgraded, he can do some serious damage to some enemies...save Darknuts, which for the most part, you can only attack from the back. Anyways, time for the addictiveness. I won't go back to play this game again, once I've gotten the fear of Darknuts out of my system. Link's control is very sluggish; he can't move and attack at the same time. Another issue I have with him is that he can only stab (yes, that word usage was intentional) in 4 directions. That severely limits his combat abilities and really makes it hard to pick this game back up. His attacks have no range to them (save for the sword beam when you're at full health, which won't last for too long, thanks to the cheap enemies), thanks to the stab, and his 4-directional movement makes for some very cheap hits that could be easily avoided. Combine that with some enemies not taking knockback damage from Link's attacks and you can have a very frustrating experience depending on where you are. Combine that with the schizophrenic difficulty and you have a game that's rather difficult to pick back up, at least in my opinion. Overall, I do think the Legend of Zelda was a fun-ish game. I can definitely see where the game started and what it could evolve into, and I can also see why lots of gamers have it as a fond memory of their childhoods. I wouldn't recommend this game for new players wanting to get into the series though, definitely not. There's some other games I think will suit your needs better than this one can. But what do I know, play it and find out if you like it or not!

Legend of Zelda Review   Zircron Swift
The Legend of Zelda is largely criticized as one of the best gaming franchises today. With it's beautiful music, great game play, challenging yet feasible puzzles and overall charm, just playing 10 minutes of any Zelda game will get you hooked (unless if your playing those other Zelda games that were on the Philips CDi, those are a mockery to the name "Zelda", they weren't even on a Nintendo console. I bet they weren't even approved by Nintendo. But I digress). I know I did when I played Ocarina of Time.....*sighs happily*. It's fair to say that these games have touched our hearts over the years. So what better than to go to the game were it all started? The Legend of Zelda for the NES was one of the first real RPG of it's time, creating the benchmark of other RPG's of running around and doing side quests along the way. So grab that sword in that cave, as we look at the Legend of Zelda.
First off, this game was unique at the time as to it tells you the story briefly at the title screen. Just waiting a little while and then some text appears, telling you the story. So it turns out Gannon, the Prince of Darkness, has stolen the Triforce of Power, and has kidnapped the Princess Zelda. She had the Triforce of Wisdom, but she smashed it into eight pieces and hid them before Gannon could take it. In the instruction booklet, Zelda tells her body guard Impa to look for someone courageous enough to save Hyrule. Impa sees a young boy save an old lady from some henchmen, and she tells him he must go on a quest to save Hyrule. So you, Link, must restore the Triforce and defeat the evil Gannon. Then a list of all the items scroll down, so you can see what you can get....oooh, magic wand. Now, I know what your thinking. "Where is the Triforce of Courage?" Well, it just doesn't exist yet. There were only two Triforces at the time. In the second game onwards, there are three. Happy? Oh, and this is a kid we're talking about. An eight year old boy on a dangerous quest. That's quite a lot to buy, you know. Well, as no one else has complained about it, I'll keep quite about it. Also, has anyone noticed that even though this is called "The Legend of Zelda", you hardly see or play as Zelda herself? You play as Link all the time, and it's called The Legend of Zelda? What's the Legend of Zelda? She gets kidnapped a lot.....what a legend. This really should eb called "The Legend of Link"....hmm....that doesn't sound catchy....but still....
So you begin your game in a green zone with a choice of three paths, so you....oh look a cave. Wonder what's inside it. Then there it is....probably one of the best sayings in video gaming history. An old man appears with fire on both of his sides and he says: "It's dangerous to go along. Take this!" With a sword in front of him, you naturally pick it up. And now your truly are ready for your quest. Thanks old man. Don't you need to go to Angle Land to present Pit with a stronger set of arrows? While he's gone, lets explore the place. So you'll come across enemies such as these red things that throw boulders at you and these pig men known an moblins, I think that's what they're called. So then you go to attack and....oh joy ^^ it shoots lazer beams at your enemy. What an awesome sword *gets hit then waves sword around, nothing happens* at least, when your health is full. Enemies drop all kinds of things such as Rupies, the currency of Hyrule, hearts to restore your life, a clock that stops time and makes you invincible and, if your really really lucky, a bunch of bombs.
After you explored a bit, and I don't know why, but you always seem to get to the first dungeon straight away. You naturally go north, then right, then north. Then your interested with the proposal of a bridge and there you go. I don't know how the designers do it. Once your in, you need to defeat the boss and retrieve a piece of the Triforce. To do that, you need to defeat a hoard of enemies, collect keys to unlock doors, solve some puzzles and collect new items that will aid you in your quest. There is a compass that tells you were the Triforce piece is, and a map, that shows you all the rooms in the dungeon. try to defeat all the enemies in every room you can. You might get rewarded by something a little better than a key. Even the old man makes another appearance if you look correctly, but I have no idea what he's talking about. The first dungeon is a pretty easy one. You fight a dragon and you gain a heart container per boss defeated. But there are heart containers hidden around Hyrule. You might even need to use a bomb to break open a wall to get to it. sadly, there aren't any cracks in this game, so a breakable wall looks the same as a nice and sturdy one. Way to go Nintendo =(    Also the bosses aren't that creative. You'll find some of the same bosses in future dungeons as regular enemies. Don't forget the timeless Dragon with Two Heads, Dragon with Three Heads, and of course (and this on is a really good one), the Dragon with Four Heads.....Come on, you call that creative?
After the first dungeon, however, I don't know were to go. I traveled far and wide to look for the second dungeon. I found the third and fifth, but I want to do the second one. Confused about that area were you seem to go round in circles? A nice lady in the corner of Hyrule will tell you how to get through that part....for a price. So after what seems like an hour wandering, and having collected the Magical shield (which protects you against more things, yay ^^), I found it. It's in the Lost Woods if you were wondering. So after the forth dungeon or so, you collect more items an hints to help you along your journey. Such as a raft and a ladder. The old man gives you some cryptic clues that sometimes don't make sense. Why can't he just give me a straight answer? I'm going to stab you now, not that it'll make a....ahhhhh! He's attacking me with fire balls! I hit him and now he's trying to kill me! Nice effect, I gotta admit. Sometimes, you might come across the old man with a new sword. Only when you master the old one can you obtain this one. How do I know it's mastered? Must I return with full hearts? No, that's not it, do I kill a certain amount of enemies? No, that's not it either. I'll come back later. I later realized you need a certain amount of hearts to get a new sword.
I also found out that some things aren't explained properly. You need to buy a candle to make things a hell of a lot easier in dungeons, you don't know were the next dungeon is, and how were you supposed to know that moving a block would bring a stair case? Although the Armos (those statue things) were done very well. You touch them because you think you can move them, until you realize that they are brought to life by your touch. Don't ask me how. Sometimes, thought, there is something under them. Mostly stairs (finding stairs near a dungeon entrance brings you in the dungeons first room....for some reason). but maybe one of them have a item under them....I won't tell you were. Also, has anyone noticed that the music is pretty much the same for the entire game? The dungeon and over world theme are the same throughout the game, apart from Gannons lair. But the odd thing is that it doesn't get annoying. The music is done so well that you enjoy listening to it, even if's it's the same old music. Truly a timeless classic piece of music.
Overall, I give this game a 8.9/10    I love this game, it's game play is remarkable and is truly a classic among classics. Although not perfect, it was one of the first games of it's kind, so for them to have so much of this done right is remarkable. There are a few things to iron out, and the save feature was faulty (thanks to this site, however, that problem is solved), and you spend nearly half the time wandering aimlessly, but that's all part of the charm of an RPG. I didn't think I would like this game, I thought it would be boring and far too hard, but I am so glad I'm wrong. From now on, I'm going to look forward to new Zelda games, despite if it's in 2D or 3D.

The legend of Zelda!   Stevie 764
A review for The Legend Of Zelda.
Graphics - 10
This game has just touched the side of perfect in graphics, they look very creative and it just blends perfectly for a rpg game like this, making me having to give the graphics a perfect 10!
Sound - 10
The sounds are great also! Although the game is only for NES (Also included in Zelda: collectors edition on gamecube), it has the perfect works of what you call, sounds. This makes me have to give the sound a perfect 10 also!
Addictiveness - 10
This is my most favorite RPG game of all time, I sat at the TV for 30-75 minutes a day playing the game, using walkthroughs to help me beat the game, this is a very addicting game because it is a great RPG, making me have to again, give this a perfect 10!
Depth - 10
Wow, just wow. This is a ridiculously long game, it took me 2 years to beat this game, but this can be accomplished by the game having a battery in it called the "battery backup" that saves your data on the cartridge. Since this is extremely long, I have to once again, give this another perfect 10!
Story - 10
The story is such a amazing thing to read. The story is that gannon, a gaurdrian pig, kidnapped link's princess, Zelda, and scattered the 8 triforce peices in 8 seperate dungeons, and link has to find them and destroy Gannon.
The story is great, making me for the 5th time, having to give this a perfect 10 for the 5th time!
Difficulty - 6
The difficulty is a little challenge, but having to go through all of the 8 dungeons and getting weapons can make this a hard game, but every Zelda game is always hard, especially when you need to get the weapons you need to reach later parts of the game. I do like it's difficulty, it is a good challenge, even with the battery backup, making me having to give this a good 6.
Overall - 9.7
This is the god of the video game franchise, it has great graphics, great sound, very addicting, great story for it's time, and how long it is.  This is defenitly a game you need to play, it is RECOMMENDED that you play the game at some point in your life! This game was the start of the Zelda franchise, and I have been a fan of Zelda for the first game here.
Overall rating: A+
Don't forget to check out my other reviews!  Hope you enjoyed the review. :D
My experiences:
I remember finding this game in my house probably back in 2009 or 2010, I popes it in the NES, and I knew just from the title screen, it was a good one, and it is!  If you hate the legend of Zelda, it's your fault for hating the series, because everybody likes Zelda along with Mario, sonic, Kirby, megaman, and other franchises like final fantasy, etc.  I have played for a couple years, after using walkthroughs last year to aid me through, I was finished, but then I notice something strange.  SECOND QUEST!?!?  That's right, after finishing the game for the first time, it says, "A new quest will start from here." the second quest is different in dungeon order, difficulty, secrets, dungeon maps, and more.  I was surprised that there was a cheat that could get you right to the 2nd quest, in the file select screen, select new file, then type Zelda. Once you come out of the new file making screen, you'll notice a sword grabbed by link's arm. That tells you that you are in the second quest. There is so much stuff to discover, it's out of control with secrets.
Hope you enjoyed! ;)

I Loved This Game, and Still Do!   poopywyatt
The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link Is an amazing, and amazingly difficult game that is a direct sequel to the Legend of Zelda. This game came with an instructional book had a fully flushed out and detailed back story. I do not at this time remember the full back story to give it proper justice. But in short, a Princess Zelda is asleep, and you play as the role of Link to traverse six palaces, defeat their guardians and place six gems in some pedestals. Along the way you will collect various items, magical spells, sword techniques, healing the sick and saving little children. After all that you travel a brutally difficult path the final palace where the game will properly humble you, if it did not already do it before. Should you manage to avoid all the humbling, you will eventually fight a shadow Link. If you die along the way (and you will... many times), then the evil Gannon will return.
Now I will explain my ratings.
I like the graphics of this game. The graphics stick out in my mind as classic and endearing. However I do not think they hold up to today. The graphics of the over world are bland and lack detail. When the side scrolling parts commence, the graphics get much more detailed.
I love the sounds and music in this game. One will notice that the game over sound effect of Gannon laughing is also the same sound clip used in Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Can you guess with opponent uses it?? The music goes with the action scenes and you will find yourself humming the over world tune.
Some people may get addicted to this game, some not. I found myself going through phases of getting really into this game and attempting to gain levels earlier, gain levels later, or just focus on one attribute when gaining levels.
As stated above, there is a long back story via the instructions manual. If you do not have the instruction manual, then it will not really obstruct your ability to play the game or even understand what is going on.
I do not remember if there is a 2nd quest to this game or not. But as far as the first quest, it can be beaten in a few hours, depending on how good you are and if you know where to go. Depth from this game can come from the RPG elements, but I do not see much past this.
I know this young kid who bragged about being sooooo awesome at video games. I then said to him "I don't here you saying Battletoads, or Zelda 2, or Ninja Gaiden. How can you be sooo awesome??" Zelda 2 is a very difficult game. However it is difficult because of the nature of the game. It is not because of the controls. The controls are responsive and tight and it is easy to learn how to play and control Link. I have seen some people exploit certain glitches, but I do not know how to do them. But with enough practice and deaths, you too will be able to put this badge on your sash.
I know a lot of people who have trashed talked this game. I disagree with them. This is a really fun game. I have had tons of fun playing this game with a my family and friends. I suggest checking it out for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Zelda I Review   Avreetheboss
This is where one single awe-inspiring game made millions spend tons of cash but have many sweet dreams and hours of fun. At the time who knew things like Mario and Zelda would grow to be what they are? In the 1980's some people thought in the new Millennia we would have flying cars and things like that. Instead we got an awesome continuation of a game that is gaming history.
The Legend of Zelda is a game that you can't forget. It's a cult classic that any retro gaming fan should play. Diving Head first into a world filled with monsters , princesses , and evil pig monsters trying to take over the world! Wait about the last one....... That's kinda weird but it works! When there's a pig monster in your neighborhood who ya gonna call? MAGIC ELF BOY! Wait what? That's right. In this game you take control of a little elf boy named Link. Even though his name isn't in the title He's the main character. (Big whoop want teh fight about it?)
As soon as you start up the game after making your file you see a cave and why not go in? Then you see a weird old man giving you a wooden sword that can shoot laser beams when you have all 3 of your harts filled. (This game seems very weird at first but trust me it good) After that your on your own to explore the vast land of Hyrule. Wait what? The player isn't alone? You said the internet can tell you how to beat the game in under two hours? Screw the internet! In the 1980's they had Nintendo Power! Not Internet! Go spend a ton of money finding the old Nintendo powers! THERE'S YOUR INTERNET!!!
So if we dig into the gameplay you find out its a 2.5d (as i like to call it) game. Where its almost 3d but not quite there yet. The controls are very responsive and easy to learn. Sadly there can be a cheap death once or twice when you think you can run past the block but you get stuck on one pixel. You can find tons of items to help you kill all the different enemies. While we're on that note the enemies have such weird names! Ever heard of a Like-Like or Tektite? You have now! Also this game is awesome but very cryptic! One example is you must play a flute in order to drain a lake to go to level 7! WHO'S GONNA KNOW HOW TO DO THAT? NO-ONE! Sure there are hints but even those are cryptic sometimes! "give this to the old lady." Which old lady I've met several! Can't you be a little bit more specific?
This game has two quests so it has some depth to it. In the second quest everything is re-arranged to be more confusing and overall way harder than the first quest! The game was already cryptic enough! Now we got an entire new quest! I'M DONE! WHERE'S THAT INTERNET I TOLD YOU TO GET RID OF? WE NEED IT! We don't? Oh you got the Nintendo Powers? Oh ok cool.
The graphics are only 8-bit but for its time it was awesome! Also for the nes it looks really good! It could've been better but the graphics are decent. The sound is really good. I can hear every time I deflect an arrow or kill an Octorock. The difficulty for me comes from the game being so cryptic!
I think this is all for this amazing game. I hope you guys enjoyed this review and If you have any suggestions please either reply or if you want it to be between us pm me your suggestions.

A Classic Princess Zelda   Redxsparrow
Nintendo is the company that made this memorable game. Nintendo is a video game company that has been around for more than thirty years. This company has a long history of video games. Nintendo was first seen in 1975 with another company named Mitsubishi Electric. In the same year, Nintendo developed a video game system called electronic video recording and then the next year, they urbanized home-use video game in cooperation with Mitsubishi. In 1981, Nintendo build and began distribution of the coin operated game known as “Donkey Kong.” This arcade became the most popular in that year. In the year of 1983, Nintendo sold the home video game console called the “Family Computer (Famicom).” Now in 1985, Nintendo started to sell the U.S.A. version of the “Family Computer” known as the Nintendo Entertainment System. The year, 1987, is where the NES became the number one hit with the games Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Golf, and R.O.B games.

Also in the franchise games of 1985-1987 is the game Legend of Zelda. Legend of Zelda is a mix of an adventure game and a dash of RPG. It is the first video game to have the concept of saved files. This game first starts off, talking about how many years ago a dark prince named Gannon stole a triforce of power while Princess Zelda had the triforce of wisdom. Before Zelda was captured by Gannon, she hid eight units of the triforce in eight different dungeons. It was up to Link, a young Hylian boy, to travel and explore the land of Hyrule, get the pieces of the triforce, paste them all together and go save his beautiful princess.
What I like about this game is its addictive, music, and the medium-hard challenge. Legend of Zelda is addictive for its characters and game play. The graphic is decent but the parts of Hyrule are tremendous. What I found a little disappointing is the map in the left corner. Even though the map is a gray box and really dull to look at, I will not let it get in my way of playing. The music in this video game is fantastic and a memory especially Death Mountain’s theme. It is also catchy when you play it long enough. The medium-hard challenge makes this game a heart-pounding moment as you go through the mountains, forests, and woods. You would face through tough dungeons and unlocked a piece of the triforce and new health. Also, you build up your character as strong as he could be. So the bottom line: THIS GAME IS AWESOME!
Legend of Zelda is shared through the years of video games. As the series get better, also the challenges get harder. The designer of Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, really had an idea of this game. Even though the game is awesome, it will be the experience of an endless adventure that will never be forgotten.

The Legend of Zelda Review   XxEzraxX
I thought that I would start the month off with a review of a fantastic game, a classic and crowd favorite that started a huge franchise The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo. Now this title may not be the great Ocarina of Time or the wonderful Majora's Mask but rather this is the game that started it all. I personally loved the game, and well think it is kind of really hard. Not because of the puzzles or anything like that, but at times you might get over crowded with enemies or things that will hurt you and whenever you die you come back with only three hearts no matter how many heart containers you have collected. Needless to say I got kind of frustrated a few times.
A note I wanted to bring up, now I know this is not exactly a whole review thing but why is the game series called The Legend of Zelda? Hardly any of the games really have a focus around Princess Zelda, there are even a few titles (mostly for gameboy) that don't even have her in it or mention her. She is not needed for anything in any of the games either, so why not The Legend of Link or something like that? That was just a personal ramble, I really kind of wanted to know what you the vizzed community thought about that.
Now on to the actual review, I rated this game a 9.5 and I think it deserves it only a few things really hold it back from being a perfect 10 in my book (which were mentioned above). This game is fantastic, tons of puzzle solving and enemies to figure out how to defeat and bosses too. The game runs nicely, even though it is considered ancient to today's standards. And overall I think a lot of people should play this game, especially if they are a fan of the Zelda series already. It is always nice to see where everything got it's start.
Graphics, I rated them a 6 nice for the NES but still I have seen a few games that look better on the same system so I think a few things could have been better. I understand that being an old system and that this is a cartridge things are very limited, but maybe some work on the textures and things like that couldn't have hurt. All in all I am still happy with what came out however, I just think that it could have been improved on a little bit. But I also think sometimes that if that had happened would the game still run as good as it does? Anyway, sound is a different story I rated the sound a solid 10 and well can you blame me? Who hasn't heard the main Zelda theme and not gotten it stuck in their head? And any 8-bit sound is awesome to me, so I love the sound of Link's sword shooting thing when you have full hearts.
Addictiveness I rated a 9, I really get into this game once I really get started. However, there have been times when I have gotten stuck and then frustrated so I put it down for a while. The game is fun, and certainly an amazing game but when you go to the same room seventeen kagillion times and STILL die every single time, then I think there is a problem. However, when you get to a dungeon and start clearing out the rooms you will never want to put the game down until you are done with every dungeon the game has to offer.
Story I gave a 7, now with this I got a little confused. At the beginning of the game you plunged into an unknown world, however there is nothing telling you what to do or where to even go. You just kind of assume you go in the first opening you see, and of course you are right for that is where you get your wooden sword. However, from there finding where to go is a pain in the butt and once you find items you are not told how to use them you just sort of have to figure it out which is kind of simple but tedious. Also you don't even know why you are going out to defeat these dungeons in the first place, but from what I gather the story goes something like this: Ganon has kidnapped Princess Zelda and you have to go through a set number of dungeons to save her. Wait is that all? Hmm, it seems so much better when you are playing it, once you ultimately find out why you are solving these puzzles and dungeons the game has a whole new light. However, for a while you are just kind of running around doing things because, well you want too.
The depth I rated a 6, it is not very long and you don't have to go through to many dungeons. There are however, hidden rooms and things like that throughout the game. They are kind of limited of course, but there are quite a few. I think I have found them all but I am still uncertain, if you are really interested in going through and finding all of these hidden things then I would suggest going on the Internet to look it up. Personally I had to search up a few things, mainly heart containers. Watch out though, there are a few hidden places with a man inside who will take away twenty rupees because of a "door fee".
Difficulty I rated an 8, although it may not seem so this game is actually pretty tough. I know it is old and should be easy but my god did I have a tough time with this game when I first played. If you are looking for a few challenging places then this is your game. Some of the enemies are impervious to your sword(s), so you have to figure out other ways to kill them. But it is mainly some of the bosses that pose the real challenge. Except Dodongo, and I'm not really sure why it took me only two bombs to kill it. Convenient but I was kind of looking for a challenge on that one I guess.
All in all The Legend of Zelda is a tough and fun puzzle solving game, and I think it is a great title. And I can see why it sparked a huge franchise like it did, I am looking forward to the day when Nintendo decides to get up and remake this game with updated graphics and an easier to follow story. Hint, hint Nintendo. I think all people who like the Zelda series will appreciate this game, and maybe love it as much as Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Or maybe not, I'm not you so I wouldn't know. Anyway, I would say at least try it for those newer players this may not be your cup of tea but I would say try it anyway just to see what we veterans had at the start and maybe you will enjoy it.

Legend of Zelda Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 9.2
The Legend of Zelda on the NES is one of the greatest classic games ever.  People say that it was the first Zelda game to be released, but it is not.  There are three other Zelda games that were made before this and they are on very old consoles.  Anyways, this game is fun in some ways.  The adventure has a lot of things to do, especially doing side quests (as I refer it being hidden items and etc.).  I think that the game is kind of difficult at first, but when you get use to it, it should be a piece of cake.  I guarantee you that this game is worth a try.
Graphics - 9
For the graphics, they are not as good, but they are incredible for an NES game.  The effects are the most amazing thing in the game, whether it is getting an item or doing something interesting.
Sound - 8
The sound is good.  The music of a Zelda song that we all know really gives us the attention about the game.  The sound effects are as usual in NES games.
Addictiveness - 8
The game is one of those games that you do not know where to go or what to do, but once you understand on what to do and where to go, then the game can get addicting.  It is a lot of fun when you are into the game.
Story - 9
The story is as usual.  A small kingdom in Hyrule is being attacked by Ganon and he has stolen the Triforce of Power.  To prevent Ganon from having the Triforce of Wisdom (is what Zelda has), Zelda splits it up into eight and scattered it all across the land.  As soon as she does that, she gets kidnapped by him.  It is up to Link to stop Ganon and rescue Zelda.
Depth - 8
From most people that play this, they do not seem to realize that this game is a long time to beat, and that there are secrets in the game that can really help you.  For instance, there are secret passages, secret areas that you can get items, and many others.  Another thing is that this game has a big area, and that you have to go to a lot of places and get a lot of things.  This game may look boring, but once you try it out, you will regret it.
Difficulty - 6
Like I said, when you start playing the game, it is going to be hard.  For instance, the enemies, of course, are the main issues in the game.  When you are using a control pad, it is really hard to aim at them and kill them while they are just moving around.  Other than that, the game is quite the challenge, but not entirely too hard for anyone to just give up on this game.
Wrap Things Up...
The Legend of Zelda is a great game to play.  I highly recommend trying this game out if you have not already.  I guarantee you that if you are a Zelda fan, you will like this game. :)

"A Legend That Took The Gaming World By Storm!"   sonicthehedgeho..
The Legend of Zelda has so many words that can describe the series especially this game, since it was the very first game made in the series (but not in the time line). As this game takes place with a child named link who takes on the task of rescuing the princess Zelda from the evil forces of Hyrule and to be able to complete this quest he must go on a long and dangerous journey across the landscapes of Hyrule which vary between deep and mysterious forests, mountains that have swarms of strong enemies as well as rocks that will periodically fall down, to the monsters that lurk inside the oceans and lakes in the game. It was a great game for it's time but let's see if it would still live up in today's gaming society it's time to see if this legend still lives on it the hearts of gamers!
Graphics: 6 out of 10
Alright I'll admit when I first played this game the graphics weren't really that appealing to me as the hero Link whom you play as in this game looks like a square of pixels and colors and the backgrounds weren't exactly stunning either as they were more bland than other games on the system like Super Mario Bros or Castlevania; however the games animations are perfectly fine and are smooth just like in Super Mario Bros or Castlevania. Although as I stated that the graphics aren't as good as the 2 other NES games I mentioned the dungeons inside this game really make up for the overworld in which you start off in as they are very detailed and have alot of perks added to them such as having to place a bomb on a certain wall and seeing that there is now a hole in the way that you can progress through and the bosses are also detailed and have different traits between each of them whether it be using defense tactics or offensive moves at certain times to even drawing you off guard so you'll end up attacking before you can plan out an attack. So with these faults and accomplishments I'd say this is at least worthy of a 6 out of 10 in the graphics department especially since this was the very first game in the series.
Sound: 9 out of 10
Now if the games graphics didn't win you over the games soundtrack will more than make up for it's lack of visuals, as each of the songs that play in this game give you a different feeling and gives you a certain level of hope or persistence. Even though there are only 4 songs in the game which are: the overworld theme which gives you a feeling of adventure right when you start the game, then you have the dungeon theme which makes you have to use logic and think about how you must progress through the dungeon and make it to the end and collect the piece of the triforce hidden inside the temple, to the theme when you actually do finish the dungeon a collect the piece of the triforce and you feel relieved that the boss and the temple itself is finally over, and finally you have the final dungeon theme which only plays when you make it to the last dungeon theme and prepare to fight Ganon which fills you up with pride and enjoyment that you're finally almost done with the game. It is an amazing soundtrack and I would tell you to check it out if you want to and I personally think they made it perfect in their first game in the series and it only kept getting better and better. Awesome job Nintendo so a 9 out of 10 is deserved here!
Addictiveness: 10 out of 10
The addictiveness in this game is as equally high as Mega Man or Super Mario Bros 3 as it is a pretty long game to go through as there are 9 dungeons or temples whatever you prefer to call them and in each on of them you usually need to find an item inside or use and item to make the temple appear. The temples themselves are also challenging as you have to choose which path you might take and how you defeat each of the enemies on the inside of the temples or even outside in the overworld map. Also after you beat the game once already you can go through the game a second time however the items and the dungeons will in different places this time as you
're going through a second quest with an all new challenge. It is really addicting and makes you want to continue playing  all the way through to the end of the second quest as well, once again awesome job and a perfect 10 out of 10.
Story: 10 out of 10
People who might think this games story is a rip-off of Super Mario Bros I must say they are sorely mistaken as in this game you're not just trying to protect a princess of a land but you're trying to protect the power of the gods from the forces of evil as well from the main villain of this game Ganon who has captured the Princess of Hyrule known as Zelda and wants to destroy the land of hyrule. Through-out most of the game you have to destroy and rid of all the creatures that Ganon has put inside the different dungeons and gain the power of the gods each time you defeat the evil in each dungeon, A great story so a 10 out of 10 is what the story deserves.
Depth: 9 out of 10
This game as I have stated for a while now the game is very long as not only can you beat the game once and just finish it but also you can finish the game a second time where things are all changed around and is more for masters who already beaten the game already. There are 9 dungeons and plenty of items that you will have to collect to make it through the game like the bow and arrow or a raft that you use to go to over water when there is a ramp right next to it in which you use to go to dungeons or find hidden power-ups. Not much else I can say here so my score here is 9 out of 10
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
When you play the Legend of Zelda on NES you better be focus and ready to play as if you don't you might end up losing your last life faster then you can say "ah dang it!" as whenever you advance to a new screen there will be a random number of enemies that will appear and they all have different pattern where the octorocks will move around in no determined path and every once in a while shooting rocks out of their mouths, you also have the tektites which look like spiders and will jump around the screen to try and attack you and these can be annoying to kill with just the sword alone but other than that they aren't that tough. The main point where the difficulty comes in is inside the temples or dungeons as you really have to plan out each move that you're going to make so that way you won't get lost inside, the best thing to do is get the map so that way you will be able to see all the rooms of the dungeon and find the hidden weapon/accessory; however the compass will only show you where the boss room is located  which I don't find to be all that helpful but you can still get it if you want to. The bosses inside can also be a hassle the first time around but once you find a pattern or an easy way to defeat the boss it isn't really that difficult, a few tips I've figured out are: when you go to fight Gohma equip your bow and arrow before entering the room and as soon as you enter fire an arrow and gohma should go down immediately, the second tip is when you go to fight Manhandla make sure you have a couple bombs as you can defeat it's heads alot easier with bombs than with your sword. So a pretty average level of difficulty so a 7 out of 10 is what I shall give difficulty.
So know that you know the story for this game do you feel that you can take on the task of saving the princess of this world, If so then go into the cave and accept this quest and fight your way through piles of enemies and destroy the evil that has plagued this world and only you can stop it!

Legend of Zelda Review   dazzsheil
Since the early advent of the Nintendo Entertainment System, people got annoyed at games for not keeping their progress and losing all of their data...until in 1986/1987,a young video game programmer form Kyoto,Japan called Shigeru Miyamoto, inspired by wandering the forests of Japan came up with the idea of the Hyrule Fantasy. He made the game so big in fact that he came up with the idea of a save function,So he utilised this to the full when Zelda no Denetsu: The Hyrule Fantasy( Legend of Zelda overseas) and the world stopped for the Famicom Disk System's debut title ON TO THE REVIEW!
GRAPHICS: While not great compared to later NES(FDS) Games,Zelda still holds up to this day.Animations on monsters are never unique( with the exception of the Leevers)Scrolling is fluent when going to a new screen and the game is overall pleasing to look at. Nice.
SOUND: Iconic and truly Staggering,Legend of Zelda is the benchmark for video game music no questions asked. The title theme, dungeon theme and Death Mountain Theme are all excellent but of course, the best song in the game is the overworld theme. It is the most catchiest song IN GAMING TODAY And nothing else surpasses this on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
ADDICTIVENESS: Time and time again I've delved into Hyrule because this game has some of the most fluent and appealing game play known to man,its fulfilling and satisfactory.
STORY: Most Zelda games have typically a boy,a princess and a manpig. This game started that money train and it does not hold up quite as well today as it did in 1986/1987.
DEPTH: A Gigantic and definitely secretive overworld. 9 dungeons may seem small but after you destroy Gannon, you have the option of adventuring through the much tougher and unforgiving Second Quest.
DIFFICULTY: I'm only on level 2 and I'm stuck. The game is unruly and unforgiving although it does implement the save feature I mentioned before. The Second Quest is too difficult and will take 1,000,000 years to beat.
OVERALL: This is one great piece of interactive entertainment. Its one of the most beloved and innovative games of all time. While the graphics aren't so pretty nowadays,it's still one hell of a fun ride and challenge. I Give The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System a 9.5 out of ten

The Legend of Zelda (Classic)   Kyle!
Now most teenagers or young adults have played The legend of Zelda ocarina of time, but their parents most likely played the Classic Legend of Zelda for the NES (NintendoEntertainmentSystem) while growing up, heck my father did.... I gave the Plot a 10/10 because of it being a great classic and now for about 30 years is still a sensation (Especially Skyward sword) and makes new releases almost yearly. While I play this game I usually mute the volume and maybe play some Journey (The band) or Linkin Park (Also a band) but my dad will ask for the volume for him to remember those days. For it's time the graphics were great (Like just about any other NES game) so I give it a another 10/10 for graphics. The depth was insane, I loved the storyline don't get me wrong, but at some parts I was clueless about where to go next because I wasn't using a guide or a walk through. And it was addictive because of how I usually play my PS3 and then I go: "Man, we've come a long way..." So I honestly will chose going "Retro" then go Play Call of Duty:Modern warfare 3 any day! I hope you enjoyed this review and will consider playing this game!!!!
Sincerely, Kyle.....

The Legend of Zelda review :)   claudevandog
In The Legend of Zelda the main character Link must save Zelda and Hirule from the evil forces of Gannon. You will have to go through 9 dungeons that are hidden throughout the overworld to save the princess and the kingdom.
GRAPHICS - 7: The graphics look like Super Mario Bros graphics. There not that good for the nes but they look fine for this game.
SOUND - 9: I'm sure everyone who plays video games knows the Zelda overworld theme.
ADDICTIVENESS - 10: By the time I beat this game I sort of forget things towards the beginning. So then its fun again.
STORY - 7: Although a lot of Zelda games involve saving a kingdom, the story IS different in every game. (At first I said 1 but I wasn't thinking about it hard enough.)
DEPTH - 9: There are hidden heart containers, extra rupees, and a second quest!
DIFFICULTY - 7: The game rarely gives you tips on where to go so you have to explore.
OVERALL - 9: A really fun game.

The Legend of Zelda review   nuggetthecat
This is my favorite game on the NES because of the true freedom to do what you want. That is why I rate this game a 9.5 overall.
Graphics: The graphics are pretty excellent for a NES game and that is why I rate this a mighty 9.
Sound: I like the music in the game so I rate this a 10.
Addictiveness: I think this game is extremely addictive, so I rate the addictiveness a 10.
Depth: The Legend of Zelda has infinity depth because even when you beat it the second time, you can beat it again.
Difficulty: The Legend of Zelda's control are simple, but the monsters can be hard to beat ( especially wisrobes) and that is why I rate the difficulty as a 10.
Anyway, I hope you liked my review.

AND SO, ZELDA WAS BORN   sjorsxd918
Hello to my third review!
This is the review of the start of my favourite game series: The Legend Of Zelda.
I've chosen this game not only because I like it, but because I like to talk about it too, so let's start it!
Graphics: Before you call it crap think about this:This game was released in 1986 (I think) and this must be the best graphics in that time. Yes I'm not lying! I like the graphics really good, not only because the year of release, but because it's happy too ( with happy I mean that the colours are shining and that makes you happy). The 3d effects of walls was pretty well made too. So this all must be worth a 10!
Sounds: Maybe you now it because of my review from super Mario bros, but I really like?Koji Kondo's work, and the music's on the legend of Zelda series are the best. They make you scared, angry, happy and much more. If you hear the over world music, you want to save the world, no matter what, and that's something special about this music.
Addictiveness: It's a well made game and you want to play this until you get tired of dieing to much. But after you finally cleared this game, you don't stop! You maybe still have to find all the secrets and of course playing the 2nd quest and kick Ganon's butt once again!
This is a never ending game, you can do the things on a new way,?the 4th dungeon first for example.
You can also do:
-Clear the game with 3 hearts
-Clear 2nd quest with 3 hearts
-Clear 2nd quest without swords (you only can't beat Ganon without sword, all the other things you can!)
Story: You maybe think the story is the best part right?
The answer is no for me. The story is good if you know it, but if you just want to play this game you just have to start it and see you can beat it or not. I mean: You start, get a sword from a old man, beat the dungeons and safe the princess.
Noting in this game tells you about the story, you have to figure it out from what you think.
Depth: Now finally something that is maybe not the best part of this game, but even the best part of all the NES games I know!
You can do so much, find so many secrets and fight so many enemies. It's amazing, this is the first game I guess where you can do things like you want to with an wide over world and many secrets.
In Mario for example, can you only go straight in one directions and you don't have really choices you can make, but in Zelda you can go in like 1000 different directions and meet new kind of stuff. Something Nintendo must be really proud of!
Difficulty: This game is really hard because you sometimes just can't find the place you have to go and you will wander around the whole world and just not find it for an hour. Sometimes the enemies can get so strong that you just can't survive.
My Experiences: The first time I played this game I was 6. Back then I almost only wandered around the world and I only wanted to know how far I can walk without dieing. Now I can actually?beat this game and that's a whole difference. If I play it, I almost listen to de songs and wonder about the graphics more than I going further in this game. But sometimes if you can't beat something I ?know you are going to quit this game for a little while.

Take this!   Kansuto9999
One of the first games I ever played as a child, and one that would inspire me for years to come. It was one of the first open world games ever, with many places to explore and secrets waiting to be unearthed, and tested not only the quickness of your reflexes but the sharpness of your mind as well! I'm glad Breath of the Wild circled back around to it's roots a bit, with how large it is as a throwback to the original. If you want to see something really amusing then load up the game and hand the controller to a friend who's never played it before. You'd be surprised how many laughs you can get watching them wander around aimlessly trying to figure out where to go and what to do. No way-points, no quest markers, just you and a big world.

The Legend of Zelda Review   VizzedGuy111
Guy's Review
The Legend of Zelda is a game from the NES era and it's a masterpiece. Anyway like Mario, this is a popular game and started other popular games like Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (even though it feels over rated so sorry ) but let me tell my review.
Let me tell you about the graphics first. The graphics is what you expect in every NES game. The reason why is because of the good 8-bit memories you probably have. Anyway, they graphics is kind of more detailed than Super Mario Bros. so... yeah. I give it a 6.
Now the sound. The sound is amazing! The sound is good for only for the NES. I mean compare it to NES to PS4. Who wins, PS4. Well the boss sound is actually good than all of those 8-bit sounds (not to be offensive). I give it a good 8 .
Now lets talk about the addictiveness The addictiveness is a meh due to this game being an adventure game and doesn't have a score. Well it does have a good adventure/puzzle type of game so I ive the rating a 6.
Lets talk about the story now. The story is similar to Super Mario Bros but it is kinda different. You control Link. A boy who needs to get the triforces to defeat Ganon and rescue Princess Zelda. So i give it a 7.
Now the depth. The game isn't really big, but at least this a good adventure game for the NES. You get items to progress through the game plus it does have a exploration area where you must find the levels (or dungeons). So i give it a half out of 10. (5)
Finally, the difficulty. The difficulty in this game isn't really that difficult but if you don't know what you're doing, this will be hard. There will be enemies to stop in your way such as octoroks and even the hard ones like blue octoroks and blue darknuts. I give it a 6.
I'm done with this review so if you haven't play this game, go play it!

The birth of a legend   arwingstarfight..
When Nintendo began working on this landmark title, they had no idea just how popular this landmark series would become.Developed alongside the ever popular Super Mario Bros, the legend of Zelda is an awesome game with plenty to offer, I will try to keep this review as thorough as possible we will begin with the story as to me that's very important in a game. Let's begin
Story wise, this game won't show much in the way of playing the game, that's why like all games, it came with an instruction manual, which provided the story. Long ago in the kingdom of Hyrule, there was princess zelda. The kingdom was a prosperous one, until a pig like monster, named Ganon (Gannon in this game due to technical limitations) invaded from out of nowhere in order to steal the triforce of wisdom, and use it alongside the triforce of power. With both tri forces in his possession, he would be unstoppable. The princess however, took precautions, namely splitting the triforce of wisdom into eight separate pieces and scattering to eight dangerous dungeons across a smal part of the kingdom. Next, Zelda entrusted her nursemaid, Impa to find someone who could stand up to Ganon and retrieve the pieces of the triforce of wisdom, as soon as Impa fled, Zelda was captured and taken to Death Mountain. Impa on the other hand was saved by a young, mysterious youth and she knew right away that this boy could stop Ganon, after she told him what had happened, the boy named Link (or you can just call him your own name, because he is a link to the player) promised to bring ganons reign of terror to an end and bring peace once more.
The graphics were a Beauty for their time, they were very colourful and vibrant and you could not take your eyes off it for a second. The characters movements were quite fluid for an eight bit game but that's what makes it a great game well part of it anyway, the colours were quite nice and the enemies often came in red blue and orange in most cases It feels like your part of the world and aside from the colours, there were other graphical qualities like dungeon statues, and the graveyard headstones and of course the triforce pieces and the monsters graphics are spot on. It is an awesome game and I think graphically, it was one of the best for the Nintendo Entertainment System, enough said.
The sound is limited somewhat by two song tunes one for the overworld that became as iconic as the series itself and the underworld tune when you visit the dungeons to defeat monsters and retrieve the piece of the triforce of wisdom at the end of the dungeon by defeating the boss. So I haven't got a lot to say about the sound music wise but I absolutely love the sound effects in this game, such as the footsteps when entering a dungeon or the stabbing sound when attacking an enemy, even the sound of getting close to the boss is a great sound but overall I don't have a lot to say about it sound wise so I will move on to the addictive
This game is addictive because it has a second quest that you can play after finishing the first quest or by entering Zelda in the name screen, you can go over the games various areas and you will see that there are extra hearts, old men that gamble or even rob you of your money and you can only carry 255 at a time and even the secret moblins that defected from Ganon and are hiding out in caves all around Hyrule and when you find them they will give you money in return for not revealing their hidden location, and they will utter the quote, " it's a secret to everybody" a quote that has become synonymous with the legend of Zelda series. If you want to get more powerful swords, you need more heart containers and u can get them by searching the overworld and beating the boss enemies. Therefore this game is a great start to the series and a great game to replay when you feel like it there are also loads of items that can help you in the game some of which can uncover hidden caves so the game is awesome in almost every way.
The depth of this game is what a lot of Zelda games would follow in the years to come. As I mentioned earlier there is a second quest and the opportunity to take a side quest to find more heart containers and a very large world to explore with multiple secrets to uncover and monsters to defeat, which will often drop rupees and the occasional bomb, which reminds me, in this game there are breakable walls that can be destroyed with the aforementioned explosives, even the bosses have distinct weaknesses that can be exploited , it's a large world and can be traversed in any way you want, and a first for games at the time, was a save system, a luxury that Super Mario Bros didn't have at all so this game has a unique advantage over this particular game and when you take the second quest, the map is mixed up a bit and the experience is harder and now for the final part, the difficulty.
This game can prove frustrating if you don't know where to go, but in hindsight that's pretty much the reason it was made the way it is, to keep player guessing, the bosses can be easily defeated if you are well equipped and have plenty of heart containers at your disposal, as a gamer with the proper equipment when I can find it, I usually have an easy time deleting the bosses like Digdogger, Gohma and Aquamentus but Ganon ( the nasty cheater) will turn invisible and attacking and defeating him is a matter of luck and good aim with special arrows, defeating both quests in the game is a very rewarding experience if I do say so myself so I will close the review by saying this is an incredible game and a must have for gamer and collector alike, for now this is Arwingstarfighter, signing off, see you next review guys

The game, along with the first Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, and Gyro mite, that everyone who bought the original NES had to have, mostly by word of mouth.   It was games like this that ultimately made the NES preferable to purchase over the Sega home system; of which I had both when they originally came out.  If I remember correctly, it was one of the more expensive cartridges in 1987 (Over $70).  It's price would only be overtaken by the high demand for SMB 3 in Christmas of 1988 (Over $100).  What made it this way was that there had never been a game like it before;  Both children and adults can be entertained and challenged.  Amazingly, it has stood the test of time and is more enjoyable than many of the games that are released today.

The Legend of zelda review   minorman4
The Legend Of Zelda, the beginning of the famous series. I've played this a lot and have it on my 3ds so I can play this on the go (not sure if America has it yet though...) If you are a fan of 2D adventure games, then you will love this game. The majority of the game is sending you looking for the dungeons, collecting rupees and collecting items whilst avoiding monster sent by the main bad guy, Gannondorf. He sent all his evil minions to stop you from gathering the shattered pieces of the triforce of courage(?).
The graphics are amazing for the 8-bit nes. Link looks like a regular guy wearing a tunic, instead of a hard to figure out what that moving thing is. The music is legendary, it sticks in my head, I hum it when I play it and it is great for little children.
summery: The legend of Zelda for the NES is a great game and is perfect for all ages. It is a landmark for the series and is a must get! I am currently looking out for a copy of this game, so I can have a little piece of history... I would play this game any day of the week if I could!

the legend of zelda features a boy trying to save the princess zelda from the evil ganon you know standard stuff this game will always keep u entertained this is actually a pretty hard game and link is a icon like mario and stuff.the music we will never 4get and the gameplay is what u couldve expected. The only problems i have is that its overhead and there are some confusing puzzles in the game but everyone gave these games a try and they think its awesum i think its a good game but im not much of a zelda fan im more of a mario and castlevania fan but i recommend this to anyone who loves adventure games. Good game but its really confusing.

AMAZING!   CrazyHecticLife
I love the game! It is AMAZING! It's a classic! It has great graphics and sound for its time. It is a lot of fun and its world was massive for a game from the 80's. The game is also pretty tough although it isn't so hard that I just want to rage quit. It's the perfect difficulty level! The game takes time to beat (I've actually never beat it.) and even when you beat the game there are secrets to find and I am pretty sure there is also a second quest. I would highly recommend the Legend of Zelda to anyone.

The Legend of Zelda Cheat Codes

How to bring up The Secret Save Screen

For this code you need Two Controllers. On controller 1 Press start. On controller 2 Press Up and A at the same time. This will bring up The Secret Save Menu. So now you don't have to die to save.
Entrance to the Second Quest

At the name entry screen enter
Second Quest Zelda
Automatic health restoration

When your health gauge is low, visit a lake of a Great Fairy to restore your life. When you approach the lake, your health will slowly fill. While your health is being restored, press start to enter the item selection subscreen, and your health will continue to fill. Using a controller in port 2, press Up + A to return to the save menu. Select SAVE, and load your character's file. Once loaded, instead of remaining at the default of 3 filled heart containers, Link will have his health fully restored at the start.
Magically Unlock A Door

As soon as you enter Level 1, exit. Then, go back into Level 1. You will notice that the northern door is now unlocked.
Fewer enemies

Kill all the enemies except for one in a particular screen, and next time you go through there will only be that one enemy there, instead of them all coming back.
Kill Gohma easily.

Before entering Gohma's room, ready the bow and arrows. Now go inside and quickly shoot an arrow. Gohma will be exactly in front of you with his eye open so he will die in one shot.
Refill Red Water of Life

If you bought a red-colored Water of Life, when you use it once, it turns blue, meaning you can only use it once more before it disappears. To refill it from blue to red without buying a second Red Water of Life from the Old Woman, buy a Blue Water of Life. Doing so will make it red again.
