Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV - Turtles in Time - A Timely Review   geeogree
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time is the only Ninja Turtles game for the SNES that is worth even considering playing. It is basically a port of the arcade version of the game but has some minor differences to it as well. There were more levels in the SNES version than in the arcade version and some of the music was changed. The differences are minor and likely don’t affect the overall feel of the game when comparing the versions. Overall this game is considered the best of the 4 games made the NES or SNES systems. It is similar in style to TMNT 2 for the NES but is better in basically every way. Graphics, music and gameplay were all improved upon for this game.
Graphics 8/10 – I loved the look of this game from the moment it started up. The starting cut-scene involving April and Shredder and the all the Turtles watching the TV was well done. I also loved the look of the levels. The backgrounds and foregrounds had lots of stuff going on all the time and were well designed. I especially loved once the Turtles started going through time and all the unique level designs that resulted from that. Really kept the look and the feel of the game fresh. I do question how there were foot soldiers in every time though. That doesn’t quite make sense to me. Not really a graphics issue though.
The other thing I really loved was the animations for the Turtles. Each one had quite unique animations for their weapons and special moves which made playing each one nice. They also all have slightly different stats. Raphael, for example, is the most powerful and Donatello has the longest reach. One of my favorite things to do was to throw enemies. The back and forth slam was good because it hurt other enemies and the throw through the screen was great. Especially because it becomes an important gameplay mechanic in the game so getting good at it is important.
Another thing I liked was how the level was used as a mechanic. The blowing up barrels were great if you timed them right. I really liked the Sewer Surfin and Neon Riders levels because they were fast paced and looked awesome. I also liked when barrels would get dropped at you in levels or the stalagmites, I think, would drop from the ceiling when you got too close to them. The cannon fire on the boat level was awesome too. Oh, and Krang shooting lasers in the first level is a great visual. The developers could have just had enemies to fight but instead they made the levels also be dangerous to the player which is great.
The enemy variety isn’t great visually. Foot soldiers were different colors based on what they could do. That helped identify them quickly but didn’t make them overly interesting. There were a handful of other enemies that were nicely designed but overall having 75%+ of the enemies as foot soldiers left me wanting more in the way of enemy variety.
Sound 8/10 – The sound for this game is good and suits the overall feel of the game. It is a bit cartoony for my liking but that is to be expected really. The whole feel of the game is a bit cartoony. The sound fits that feel quite nicely. There are some really enjoyable level tracks and others that are alright. The music isn’t the fun part of this game though.
Where this game really excels is in the sound effects and few moments of talking that you get. The sound effects from the fighting are fun. Throwing foot soldiers through the screen doesn’t get old. The back and forth slam throw is also good. The rest of the fighting sounds are also well done. Even better than these though are the sounds when the Turtles step on something. “My toes! My toes!” was awesome. I also liked when you fell into a man hole. So good!
So, while the music wasn’t as good as it could have been the sound from the gameplay itself made up for that and kept the game interesting.
Addictiveness 10/10 – This game is seriously one of the most fun games I have ever played. I taught my kids how to play and they ask to play this game all the time. The main game itself is super fun to play on its own whether you are playing 1 or 2 players. The levels are a challenge but not frustratingly difficult. The graphics and sound make the game nice to look at and listen to. Overall it is just a well-made game that should keep players coming back for more.
There are also 2 other modes besides the main story mode that are available in the SNES version of the game. The first is a time trial mode where you can try and complete levels as quickly as possible. This is kind of fun for after you’ve beaten the game or as practicing levels without having to play all the way to them. This only applies to levels 1, 2 and 5 (I think) but it does give you a chance to practice nonetheless. The other mode is a versus mode where you get to fight as a turtle against the one of the other turtles. It’s not the most exciting thing to do but it is another mode to the game which is nice.
Story 6/10 – To describe the story now just seems silly but this is the story they came up with as the reason why the Turtles needed to defeat Shredder: Krang, in his giant exo-skeleton suit thing, flies into New York and steals the Statue of Liberty. Not sure what he is hoping to use it for but that’s what Krang did. Then Shredder hijacks the TV signals and brags about what he’s done. It’s the Turtles job to track down Shredder and Krang and defeat them in order to get the Statue of Liberty back. It’s not a terrible story line but it feels sort of lame. If the Turtles do nothing then the statue is lost and likely no one gets hurt so I fail to see the urgency. However, I’m not from New York and maybe I’d understand better if I were. It’s not the worst story for a game to take but it just feels like there are holes in it. It could have been done better than this in my opinion. This is probably the worst part about the game.
Depth 7/10 – I was surprised when I looked over all the levels to realize that this game has 10 of them. 2 of them are referred to as bonus levels (Sewer Surfin’ and Neon Riders) but that doesn’t really change in my mind. Even those levels have bosses at the end of them. So, 10 levels worth of game and each level is fairly in depth on their own. The game is totally linear so there is no variety when you replay the game but it’s a long enough game for this genre that you don’t care too much about that.
The option to play 1 of the 4 Turtles keeps the game interesting. Each turtle has his own weapon and special move which adds a bit of variety to the game. Not tons but it does help add a bit of depth and replayability to the game.
The extra game modes don’t add much to the game but I don’t think the time taken to make those detracted from the overall quality of the game itself.
Difficulty 9/10 – this rating was tough for me because of how many times I’ve played this game now. There is a difficulty setting for the game (Easy, Normal, and Hard) which decides 2 things: difficulty of the enemies/bosses and number of continues available. There is also an option to decide how many lives you start with at the beginning of the game or after you continue (3, 5 and 7). These options do allow for a lot of variability in the difficulty of the game. On Hard with only 3 lives I could see this being a very difficult game to complete. Not because of the normal enemies you face but because of the bosses.
I find that after the first 2 bosses of the game that it is nearly impossible to beat a lot of the remaining bosses without dying at least once. Especially Slash. I think he is probably the toughest boss of the game after the Final Shredder. Tokka and Rahzar can be a challenge if you don’t manage your position around them properly but not impossible to do without dying. Bebop and Rocksteady only need 1 to be defeated in order to beat them both so they aren’t too bad. Your first encounter with Shredder is simple as long as you can do a throw. The Rat King I nearly always die against though. Most of the bosses are tough enough that they can pretty easily kill you if you aren’t really careful. With 5 continues and 7 lives per continue it doesn’t matter too much but if you only have 3 lives and 3 continues then it’s vitally important that you learn the boss mechanics. And on hard the bosses are all faster than on the other difficulty levels so you need to be even better while fighting them.
Overall though the game can be easy enough for someone to complete casually in order to learn the game but the difficulty can easily be ramped up so that every hit against you counts a LOT. I really like the ability to change the difficulty that much in a game like this. This allows you to have fun or to have a challenge when you want either one.
Overall 8/10 – I feel like this is by far the best NES or SNES Ninja Turtles game that was made. The gameplay, graphics, and music all exceed anything that was done before (or after, but I don’t really like to talk about that game). Konami created one of the best and most enjoyable side-scrolling beat em up games of the NES or SNES eras.

TMNT IIII turtles in time review   SacredShadow
Tmnt IIII, the sequel to the third game of the manhattan project,
this is an awesome fast paced action game with great music and lots of fun levels to enjoy, I really like this game and I think it is one of the best tmnt games I have ever played and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is a tmnt fan and looks forward to a fun and challenging game.
Graphics: 9
Out of all of the teenage mutant ninja turtles games I have played, I think that this one has the best graphics by far, everything is so clear and sharp and I like all of the sprites and characters, they look amazing and colorful. The foot soldiers and their different uniforms and weapons distinguish their rank and separate them from one another. Shredder also looks pretty cool as well. The background for all of the places look great and really clear as well and the enemies and bosses also look very nice and detailed, so overall I rated the graphics of this game a 9 because of how clear and nice they look.
Sound: 9
The sound of this game is pretty awesome, the music is really nice and it is catchy to listen to, it changes from each level and there is also music for a boss as well which sounds fun and really sets you in the mood of the game. The sound quality is great and no matter when I last played this game, the music always stays with me in my head, it is  just really catchy and I think that it is a great bonus to have good music that goes to the mood of the game and makes it sound great. I scored the sound a 9 because it is just really great quality and very fun to listen to and enjoy.
Addictiveness: 8
Okay, I guess it is time to fess up, I do play this game often because the levels are fun and addicting and the gameplay, sound quality and all of the bosses and places are very nice and fun and that is why I enjoy playing this game so much. It is very addicting because there is just so much to do, there are many bosses, lots of levels and enemies to fight and it is a great game to play if you are a tmnt fan and you are really looking for a challenging and fun experience. I really enjoyed playing this game because of how in depth it is and just how much it offers, it is not one of those games that you beat in 5 minutes, it is truly awesome and enjoyable. I rated it an 8 because no matter how often I played it, I never got bored and I always enjoyed it.
Story: 8
I like the story of this game, it is actually good, Krang takes the statue of liberty and then Shredder shows up on television and  gives them a message and then they go after him to get the statue back. And when you reach the technodrome level when you beat him up in his ship he then banishes the turtles to a time warp into like 250,000,000 BC or something like that and they have to work their way up to the present and get the statue back. So it is a pretty interesting plot and I think it is fun to go back in time and go against all of the different bosses until you work your way up to Krang and then Shredder. I scored it an 8 because it is a very interesting and unique plot that I think is very fun and different.
Depth: 7
The game is a good length and it is not the kind of game you beat in 5 minutes but it is also not a game that should take days to finish, it is a pretty good length and can be beaten in about an hour or so depending on how good you are with tmnt games or if you have played this one before. The levels are pretty interesting and there are lots of different bosses to fight on each level which makes it pretty interesting. I really enjoyed the game because of mostly the enemies and bosses like the foot soldiers, krang and those weird things that are brown and they charge into you and take a lot of health away, I hated those things because of how overpowered they are. Anyways, I rated the depth a 7 because it is a pretty good sized game that leaves you with lots to do and enjoy and it doesn't drag on and take forever to beat.
Difficulty: 7
The game can be difficult at times, mostly because of the sheer amount of enemies that can gang up on you at one time, like all of the foot soldiers that take a few good kicks to finally get rid of. They can make the game a little challenging because of the amount of them coming at you all at once making it tough. As for the controls part of the game, you move with the arrow keys and you can set up your attack and jump keys to whatever you want really, I just left them the way they were. If you are new and you haven't had much skill with tmnt games, then yeah it might be a little difficult at first, but don't give up, once you get the controls down, the game becomes much more easy and fluent to play, get a little more experience with tmnt games the you will understand how to beat the enemies and bosses and you will know what to expect. Overall the controls and difficulty might be a little challenging at first, but once you know how the enemies and the controls work then it will be a lot easier to understand the game and do well. I scored the difficulty a 7 because it can be difficult for newbies to tmnt games, but after figuring things out, it can be pretty straightforward from there.
Overall: 9.4
Overall, I really enjoyed playing this game for the amount of fun and challenging enemies and bosses in it that make it a fun experience to play. I really think this game is fun and will be for anyone who has played tmnt games before and are looking for a challenge, this is the game for you. The characters, plot, and story of the game all make for a very fun ad addicting game altogether, so this is a very good game and I really enjoyed playing it which is why I rated it a 9.4.

Turtles in time review   tornadocam
Okay today I'm going to be reviewing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Turtles in time). This was I want to think the 4th installment in the video game series but I am not sure. Anyway, this was released on the Super Nintendo. So I will be offering my critique of this game.
Story : 8
In the Sewers the Turtles are watching TV to see their friend April do her report. As April is doing her report Shredder sends his henchman to steal, of all things the Statue of Liberty. After stealing the Statue of Liberty. Shredder than hacks as well as hijacks all forms of communication to deliver his message. Shredder announces he is taking over and challenges the Turtles to stop him. He also taunts them daring him to stop his army. The Turtles set out defeat Shredder, but are zapped by his time machine. The Turtles must travel in the past as well as the future, and defeat Shredders army to return home and to defeat Shredder.
Okay, the story was for the most part good. It seemed like the makers of this game was trying to get creative. By having Shredder steal the Statue of Liberty, take over communication, and use a time machine to stop the Turtles from advancing was really creative. So it was creative. But it just seemed like something was missing in this plot. The game is not really clear why Shredder wanted the statue of Liberty. One could conclude it is to lure the Turtles in a trap or hold the city ransom. I just felt like they could have explained that more. But overall a good story line.
Graphics and Controls: 7
The graphics were decent in this game, but to be honest it felt like I was playing an 8 bit system. I really was expecting more considering this game was released on a 16 bit system.  Some of the backgrounds looked a little fuzzy for me. I have played several SNES games and most games I have played have really good graphics. In fact, the first game for the NES had better graphics than this. Okay now enough of the negatives. The backgrounds are decent, and they are colorful so that was a nice touch. The game appears to have a few lags, but part of me wants to think that was done on purpose to signal traveling to different points in this game. Since the gimmick is visiting different time zones. But the lags are not really drawn out and it only seems to happen when traveling through different eras. So again probably was done on purpose.
The Controls well vary depending on which turtle you use. Leo and Donatello have the best controls. Raphael seems alright but Michael Angelo seems sluggish. I often play with Leo or Donatello because they are  my favorite turtles so the controls were not an issue for me. The sprites were also nicely done, even the enemies have nice sprites. Overall the graphics and controls were good just not up to SNES par in my opinion.
Sound: 8
The sound is this game is decent. The stage themes are nicely done. The way the enemies sound is decent too. However, what really shines is when the Turtles have their weapons enhanced. The sound of powered up weapons is nice it lets the player know their attacks are doing damage. Also the game lets you know when you pick up pizza for health as it will say Pizza. Also I thought it was nice how the Turtles say Cowabunga after beating a boss. Now, while the sound was good it was missing something. This game is pretty much a beat em up type game. Other beat em up games I have played have had the enemies moan and groan after being knocked out. In this game I did not hear any moaning and groaning. I so wanted to hear moaning and groaning and I thought it would have been a nice touch if the enemies had done that. So, that kind of brings the rating down a little bit. Also believe it or not I really thought the first NES game had better sound.
Addictiveness and Depth:7
TMNT in time was a fun game to play and I enjoyed playing this game. Now with that being said, I enjoyed playing the first game better. Still, this is a fun game and should not be overlooked. It is also fun to play through the game with a different turtle. Having a choice to chose a certain turtle adds depth to this game. I often like to play through a different turtle to see how far I can go with that character. There are also some power ups that can be picked up to enhance your weapons for a few seconds. The power ups are quite nice especially since this game likes to throw the kitchen sink at you. I also thought this game was kind of long so be prepared to spend time on this one. Since there is not items to collect in this game that kind of brought the rating down. At the end of the day I give the depth and replay value a good score of 7/10
Difficulty: 9
This game really shines on its difficulty. Compared to the first Turtle game for NES this one is a lot tougher. The bosses are hard and will really test the players reflexes and skill to beat. But, what makes this game so tough is not really the bosses, it is the enemy placement. Unlike the Turtles 1 (NES ) this game loves to surround  you with enemies. It is so easy to get surrounded and lose health quick in this game. The first Turtles game had its problem but the enemies did not seem to surround  you in that game. Also, this game also likes to get in cheap shots. Enemies will also hit you from behind so the player will have to watch out for that. So players beware this game will challenge you on reflexes and skills to beat. Also you will probably lose health in this game if you are not careful. I like games that test your skill though it makes beating them an accomplishment. As hard as this game is, the game does try to help you out by giving you power ups so that is why this game does not get a 10/10. However, the power ups can be sparse so yeah, this is a tough game to beat.
Overall: 8
TMNT in time was released for the SNES In the early 90's. I remember playing the first Turtle game for the NES and it was awesome. The NES game really rocked in its sound and graphics. When I played this game I thought it would be a huge improvement over the first game. To my surprise the first game, had better graphics than this game. I was shocked because I have not played that many games were the NES graphics were better than the SNES game. But that is the case in this game. With that being said, this is a good game and should not be overlooked. I had fun playing this game. I also thought the difficulty was very well done for a beat em up game. The difficulty reminded me of Battle Toads and Streets of rage due to the enemy placement. The difficulty is better than the first NES game. If you can look past the negatives than players will find nothing wrong with this game. As far as recommending this game. I would recommend this game, but I think players should play Turtles One (first NES turtle game) before playing for this one. I give Turtles in time a good rating of 8 out of 10.

Does this game do the turtles justice?   RedHotToddy
Aww yeah! One thing I remember from the 90's is waking up on Saturday mornings and changing the channel to some Teenage mutant ninja turtles! It was probably one of the greatest Saturday morning cartoons of the 90's, The CGI one we have on nickelodeon isn't as good as the original, But It is still okay. I remember the turtles got a bunch of video games back then, they even got their own arcade game! I remember playing that at the old pizzeria down the street, but the one I am reviewing is Turtles in time for the SNES, Let's hope this is good!
Story-7/10
The main plot behind this game is that one day the turtles are in their hideout watching the local news report with April'o'neil, But then the evil shredder comes out of nowhere and just steals the precious statue of liberty!  It is now up to you to control the turtles through more then 5 big levels in order to retrieve it back!
Gameplay-8/10
In this action side scroller beat'em'up, You take the control of Leo, Michael, Donny or Raph as you adventure through big levels beating up a bunch of enemies along the way, The turtles are armed with a bunch of special moves such as nunchucks, kicks, punches, etc. There are 5 or so game modes in the game, 1 player has you going through the game just by yourself, 2 player has you playing through the game with a friend, And I haven't really tried versus mode or time trial in a long time, so I forgot what those are. One thing about this game I like is that most of the characters from the comics appear as well, Such as the turtles, Baxter, shredder. Krang, bebop and rocksteady, etc. The controls are pretty simple for an SNES game, A is jump, and B X and Y do all your other attacks. The bosses in this game usually appear at the end of certain levels, Like Baxter appears in the first level, and so on.
Graphics-8/10
I will be honest here, the game was made in 1992, And the graphics are really well done! Each of the levels you will be exploring in this game are big, beautiful, and bursting with color! As for the characters, they look pretty good as well, Leo looks like himself, Michael looks like himself, Donny looks like himself, And Raph does as well. The HUD in the game is pretty self explanatory, It shows how much health each of the turtles have, and their current score. The game also uses a funny effect where if you time your attack right, then you will make the enemy hit the actual screen! You don't get that kind of stuff in other video games! Well actually I think Smash bros has something like that, but oh well!
Sound-8/10
Probably the best part of the game, the soundtrack! Right off the bat you get an awesome 16-bit rendition of the TMNT theme song! As for the actual game soundtrack, It is pretty upbeat and catchy to listen to as well, they all fit the mood of each level, Such as Big apple, alley cat blues, etc. The actual sound effects are the kicker here, You get a bunch of pows, bams, whacks, booms, etc. I know a good beat'em'up when I see It! You also get some character vocals from the turtles like when you get hurt by a spike, they say "Ow my toe!" And at the beginning of every level, a turtle also says the level name like "Alley cat blues!"
Addictiveness-9/10
Is this a game that I am going to play again? Why of course! Good games like this always have me coming back for more and more. I do remember playing this game with a friend alot when I came back home from school, The game just has that certain charm that other licensed beat'em'ups do not have.
Depth-7/10
One thing you should know about the game, It has quite alot of replay value! Like I said, The game has a 2-player mode, a time trial mode, a versus mode, etc. The game is also 9 levels long, So It will probably take you about 1-3 hours to play through It all. This is the perfect game to play with a friend!
Difficulty-6/10
The game shouldn't give you that much trouble, I mean there is a difficulty level though, Easy medium and hard, I like playing on normal mode all the time, because I am quite an expert gamer! Yet some levels can give me alot of trouble though!
Overall-9.5/10
So in general, If you need a good licensed beat'em'up for the SNES, I highly suggest this one! It has alot of charm, depth and fun to keep you coming back for more and more! I gave this game a 9.5 because how much fun it is, and the amount of content It offers. So go buy this one! You won't regret it!

Introduction
Hello and welcome to me review for TMNT Turtles in time 4 for the SNES. This is by far one of my most favorite childhood games growing up and I only wish I still had this for my Super Nintendo [I don't throw away the classics..EVER!]. In this review I will be comparing the Super Nintendo port to the original classic arcade port of Turtles in Time.
Graphics-9 out of 10
It's the Super Nintendo and good graphics is what the Super Nintendo was good at, however the arcade version does still beat this one in terms of superior look and details.
Difficulty-7 out of 10
The game takes a little bit of practice, but once you get the hang of things, you'll be amazed that you ever really lost in the first place. It can be a bit chaotic like most games the further you get, but even on normal you won't notice too much of a difference. Really the only hardest stage is "Starbase" and that's because its a mix of all Foot Ninjas and as plenty of traps for you to avoid.
Bosses take on they're on difficulty away from the arcade, as the arcade bosses just punch and chase, but the Super Nintendo bosses require you to use your brain a little bit more. Using Slash as an example, whom is no doubt the hardest boss in the game and use to have me in fear of reaching his stage as a kid, does indeed have flaws. He hits like a truck, but is also kind of a moron. If you can manage to stay out the way of his mean blades and back him into a corner, he'll expose himself allow you to make fast work of him.
Super Shredder, is another guy as a kid I use to didn't think I could beat at all without some help and I was somewhat right. A couple months ago when I first joined this site, this was the first game I made my way too and Shredder beat me badly. Later on, it soon became clear to me, that Shredders movements were as predictable side jumping him and letting him have it.
Story-4 out of 10
The story is the weakest thing about the game if there even is a story. For whatever reason, Shredder has Krang steal the Statue of Liberty. Not exactly sure what Shredder wants to do with it, besides using it as a giant decoration, because I can't picture how he can take over the world with it alone and it's never explained in the game, besides being an excuse for the Turtles to come after him.
Sound-9 out of 10
Not a whole lot to say in this department besides the sound and music is awesome as with a lot of games produced in the 90's. The only reason I gave this a 9 is because it doesn't share the colorful voice overs that the arcade version brought to the table.
Addictiveness-10 out of 10
If you love classic beat-em-ups this was the game back in the day you needed to play with a friend. It's fast paced, has plenty of action that gets better the further you go into the game and the bosses don't beat you down so much that it takes the fun element out of the game.
Depth-8 out of 10
This is just a beat-em-up so it's pretty right to the point. Smash your way though enemy's to defeat the boss on the other side and go on to the next level. It did however bring it's own elements to the table that the arcade version didn't have. More better bosses and more stages. I said it before and I will say it again, if you merged the arcade ports superior look and voice overs, with the SNES port, you would have the perfect beat-em-up game.

Over All one of the Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Games ever made.
Graphics are superior
All the music and phrases get you pumped into the game From the upbeat music, to the "ouch my toe my toe" to the
infamous "PIZZA TIME" When you were getting close to the boss at the end it goes right into that ominous villain tone.
Punches make sounds throws makes swooshes and swords clink. Yes this is all common sense but it was rare for
video games of this time to match actions and relevant sounds.
I don't know about you but the ending itself with the righteousness music and photo the resembles the movie, just that alone was enough
to keep me going through until my brother and I could conquer shredder and his minions of THE FOOT CLAN.
Who wouldn't want to shift through time as mutant turtles and save the world from the putrid odor of THE FOOT.
Originally created for the arcade there is a decent and diverse amount of levels and bosses for you to pummel.
The game is not as easy as a make it sound, depending of the difficulty you set it on and how well you know the game you can help avoid
some of the things that were meant to keep you tossing the quarters in, and avenge master splinter and defeat the mighty Shredder

TMNT IV:TIT (Or, why acid+pizza+an aquarium is the best thing ever)   gamegeek
This game has been a part of my childhood.  Growing up in Virginia, I would almost always go over to my neighbors house to play this game, eat pizza, and have a good time (Also, we'd laugh at what Turtles in Time acronyms into).  Since logging into "Teh Interwebs", I see that many others have had the same childhood experience with this game, so please don't get shell shocked when I say something negative about this game; because A) it's still an amazing game, and B) It's a review, also known as a critique.  If I did nothing but praise the game, then its really just another fan gushing about his favorite game.
On with the review, TMNT IV: TIT is the SNES port of the arcade game of the same name.  In the late 90's, you could find this game sucking up quarters in every kind of arcade, and there would  be four kids using it constantly who never met until they inserted their 2 tokens to play as 1 of the four amazing turtles.  It brought people together in ways that only the MMO's of today can, without having to use online game-play as a lure.  After a few years of success, they ported it to the home console of the time (SNES), and in the process changed some things (For the better).
For one thing, the graphics are an improvement on the old arcade cabinet.  They're brighter and more colorful, and since you play it on your TV, you don't have to worry about some Jackass coming in, and smashing the screen/render the game unplayable.  That's actually not a joke btw; half the time my friends and I went down to the arcade,  the cabinet would be busted for various reasons.  Either someone broke the speaker, screen, or coin acceptor and it wouldn't be repaired until the end of the week (At which point someone would invariably bust it again).  Character movements, while not as fluid as other games such as Chrono Trigger, are well animated.  Every single throw and hit has the feeling of impact in it, and the enemy's 'hurt' animations convey the impact of the weapons.  Aside from the characters, enemies and locations are varied and detailed enough to never be boring, doubly so for bosses.
The music is amazing for the era this game comes from, it's always fitting to the stage it's connected to.  You can be brawling in the streets one moment to fighting on a pirate ship the next, and the music will always keep you in the kick-ass mindset.  The kick-ass rock music fits the game perfectly, and you'll never get tired of it.  Don't believe me, use Youtube to find out for yourself.  Just search "TMNT IV opening theme".
TMNT IV is in no way a direct port of the arcade classic, aside from the enhanced graphics, they've added:
  • New stages
  • Changed stages
  • switched around bosses
  • changed the techno drome bossfight to incorporate the camera throw
  • added bosses

These changes are all for the better, but there are some areas where they should've changed in the game mechanics.  For one thing, the game is really difficult.  Enemies can grab you, and collision detection is going to screw you over a few times with enemies grabbing you a fair distance away.  I honestly think it's intentional however, since as an arcade game, it relies on death to make money.  You also have a limited number of lives and continues, but that's completely useless since the SNES isn't coin-operated.  Due to the games difficulty, and the limited number of lives/continues, it may be awhile before you face down the final boss, let alone see the end credits.

All in all, this is an amazing game, but the quarter-eater tactics left in just really bug me.  It's something that wasn't needed put in for a roadblock for no reason.  Also, the gameplay only changes once in awhile, and when it does, it only seems to go from "walk to the right and punch dudes" to "variation of walking to the right and punching dudes." Problems aside though, the game deserves the near perfect score of 9/10 pizza slices.  I'm open to constructive criticisms, and let me know if you enjoyed this review below.

Turtle Power!   Itachi9695
Greetings ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to TMNT Month 2. Since during the last TMNT Month, I reviewed the arcade version of this game, I decided it was time to review the game's very successful home console port. Now, back in the late 80's to early 90's, porting arcade games to home consoles usually resulted in the arcade version being superior. However, with this game, people have actually claimed that the Super Nintendo version is superior to the arcade version. How is this possible? Is it really the superior version of the game? Let's find out, here's my review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.
Graphics
The graphics for this game are great by home console standards at this point in time. They use, for the most part, the same sprites as the arcade version, but not as well animated. I can only assume that this has to do with hardware limitations on the SNES versus the arcade. There's also the option to choose between the animation coloring and the comic coloring. I usually stick with the animation coloring because I find it easier to see due to it being a little brighter. The enemies look good as well. You have different types of Foot ninja each wearing a different color and wielding a different weapon in order to distinguish themselves from one another. The levels and background also look great. You can tell the developers put hard work into the graphics department in order to make it look like the arcade version as much as possible. Overall, while not as good as the arcade version's graphics, definitely pretty close and they look amazing on this console.
Sound
The soundtrack is just amazing. Every track in the game is very catchy and fun to listen to. I often find myself humming one of these tunes every now and again while I'm just doing what I normally do every day. I especially find myself humming the Sewer Surfing music. It just won't leave my head, I can hear it just from memory while writing this review. The sound effects are also nicely done and are close to the arcade sound effects, if not exactly the same. Just a great sounding game in general.
Addictiveness
Ever since the arcade version appeared on Vizzed, I find myself playing that version a little more often, but before then I was wasting my time playing this version. It's definitely a really fun game that's sure to have you coming back over and over again. With all the different ways you can dispatch of your opponents, you're sure to come back to try and find as many as possible.
Story
I'll give the story credit in that April isn't getting herself kidnapped this time. This time, Krang steals the Statue of Liberty, though I'm not quite sure why, I don't think it's ever explained. Shredder then appears on the Turtles' TV and gives them a message. The Turtles then decide to go and kick Shredder's butt...again. From there, the plot really doesn't make a return until after the Technodrome stage, where Shredder sends them into a time warp from which, he claims, they will never return. Not that I expect a beat-em-up game to have an amazing plot, but it's just one of those plots to get you going.
Depth
The game isn't too terribly long and can be beaten pretty quickly depending upon your skill at the game. There aren't very many levels and not much room to really explore them. However, I think the game makes up for this by giving us a very wide variety of enemies to fight. Mousers, different types of Foot Ninja, and whatever those robots are that roll around and shoot lasers and rope you. (I hate those thing by the way, they're so annoying) While not the longest game I think the sheer amount of enemies more than makes up for it.
Controls/Gameplay
I guess I'll go ahead and sum up the difficulty here, if you've played the game as many times as I have, you won't have a problem. Newcomers might get thrashed a bit at first, but once you learn how the game works, it can be pretty easy. Now for the controls, you move using the D-pad, and you can pretty much set your attack and jump buttons to be whatever you want them to be in the options. You can also pause using the Select button, yeah it took me a little while to realize that was the way to do it. (I felt like an idiot when I figured it out, considering I had tried pressing the Start button for the longest time and thought you couldn't pause the game.) The game flows pretty smoothly and you probably won't have too much trouble getting the control scheme down.
Overall, if you're a Turtles fan, or just a beat-em-up fan in general, you should definitely check this game out. I honestly can't decide if I like this version or the arcade version more. I guess that's just a matter of preference. With great controls, great graphics, and one of the best soundtracks in video game history, I give this game a 9 out of 10. Join me next time, where I'm heading to the Genesis to review The Hyperstone Heist. Until then, peace out.

First off I want to start off by saying as a kid I was a huge Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. I had it all. The toys, the VHS tapes
everything. To me it was the best franchise for a kid growing up in the
90's to be a fan of. Now as an adult I'm still a fan but not as much. So
I was very delighted to find out that this site has the arcade version
of a video game I grew up playing as a kid. But I'm not writing my
review based on the MAME version of the game. No, my review is coming
off the fact that I myself own an actual working arcade cabinet of the
game. Don't get me wrong I love the MAME version but its not the version
I played prior to my review. Mainly because I owned the arcade cabinet
long before I knew about this site.
   Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles: Turtles in Time was developed, published and released by Konami
back in 1990 is a 4 player style beat Um up where the player can select
from 1 of 4 turtles. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael.
Like the first game for the arcades this one also a 2D side scrolling
beat Um up. So is it better or worse then the first one? Does it hold
up just as good if not better then the first? Lets answer those
questions and more in my review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles
in Time.
Difficulty 2. With this being the console version of
the game its not very hard at all. Also the controls are very tight and responsive. Of
course I'm speaking as a person that's using a Xbox 360 controller.

Depth 4: There isn't a lot of depth to the game. All you do is go right
and beat up the various bad guys as you go. That's all there is to it.
The game itself doesn't take that long to beat. I've gone through the
entire game start to finish in about an hour. An hour and a half at the
most. Its a short game but a fun game.
   Story 5: The story is
kind of mediocre. The story involves our Heroes in a Half Shell going on
a rescue mission through time to get back the stolen Statue of Liberty
that was stolen by Shredder. That's basically the entire story right
there. As I said not really much of one.
   Addictiveness 10:
This game is simply a blast to play through. Not once do I get bored
whenever I play it. There have been times that I play it more then once a
day. Its really that addicting and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Sound 10. The sounds are amazing to listen to. The music is fun and
energetic to listen to. The songs are ones you will remember even when
you are not playing the game.
Graphics 10:  The graphics still
look amazing and hold up very well despite the game being over 20 years
old. They are extremely colorful and very well detailed. I never get
tired of looking them as I play the game. Its just a joy to look at.

Overall 6.8: Now I know with me giving good praise of the game in my
other sections you'd think I'd give it a 10. Well no. Mainly because it
suffers from 3 main areas for me. First its the difficulty. I wish that
even though its the arcade version and you can add as many credits as
you want it was a little more harder. Secondly is the depth. I wish it
could have been longer then it was or had more to offer. But
unfortunately it does not. The third and final thing is the story. I
wish there was more to it then there was. Sometimes I wish it was more
involved then what it was.
So aside from those 3 factors is
it a game worth your time? Yes. I cannot recommend this game enough. You
would be doing yourself a favor if you give this game a moment of your
time. You will definitely not be disappointed.

TMNT IV IGN Style Review   dazzsheil
Everyone I know knows what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is.A Fu***ng awesome show for starters and with that show came loads of merchandise and in that merchandise came 3 NES Games 1(To my knowledge) Sega Mega Drive game and again 1 (to my knowledge) on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Turtles in Time is one of THE Best beat em'ups ever and for good reasons.
GRAPHICS: Bright and colorful. Perfectly fitting a TMNT Game. Great animations. Compared to Double Dragon/Battletoads....this game looks awesome.
SOUND: From the Opening Konami Logo to the Ninja Turtles theme song this game has some of the 16-bit eras best music. Better music than Dare I say it,Super Mario World???
ADDICTIVENESS: TMNT IV Turtles in Time(Yes that's the FULL Title) is more addicting than again, dare I say it Super Mario Bros?
STORY: I didn't actually pay much attention to the cutscenes....so I'm just gonna take a WILD Guess with this one and say it had a great story with 1 or 2 flaws.
DEPTH: Really large game with TONNES TO DO!
DIFFICULTY: Doesn't really get difficult until Stage 5 then the game really starts kicking your Ass but still fantastic.

tgags123's review here was originally mine, but he tried to help when a glitch occurred and it ended up becoming credited to him instead of me and he hasn't bothered to re-credit the review to me. So I posted another review here that is 100% mine.

Why doesn't the copy of this game give us the true credit ending on normal? If this is the SNES version, than beating it on normal with no support should give us the true ending instead of Splinter telling us to play hard mode just to see them.
