Want a cold one? Ultrajeff
Background: Tapper is a game released in 1984 by Midway. This perhaps is the only game made to look as if it belongs in a bar. You are a bartender. Your job is to serve the thirsty patrons in your thriving bar.
Gameplay: Its quite simple, actually. You, as a bartender, must serve everyone accordingly. You press up and down to travel to all the different bars while filling the mugs with more beer, courtesy of the tap. The patrons constantly follow you around until they reach you. When they actually do, they will throw you straight out. You serve them beer to prevent that. If you fail to pick up an empty mug or send one down an aisle with no patrons, you lose a life. Money appears, often sporadically. Picking it up helps get dancers to distract the patrons. In the bonus rounds, a patron shakes up six mugs of beer, with you having to find the correct one. Fail, and the mug explodes in your face, costing you bonus points. 8/10
Graphics: The game looks good for 1984. Characters are adequately detailed, and everything just pops. 6/10
Sound: The music is worthwhile, since we are treated to a moving rendition of "Oh! Susanna", along with "Buffalo Gals" and the "Can-Can". The sound effects both draw inspiration from cartoons and reality. 8/10
Addictiveness: The game is alluring. The frantic bar will keep you playing for hours on end. 10/10
Story: Not much of one. You are a bartender, serving your trusty patrons. 2/10
Depth: It isn't very deep. Its just serving drinks, collecting mugs, gathering money, and dancing. 4/10
Difficulty: This game is very hard. Patrons constantly rush you, while you are preoccupied with serving them all, as well as getting their money and your used mugs. 8/10
Overall: Tapper is a treat. If you can get past its difficulty, you are in for a cold one. 8.8/10
